00:00I'll be there.
00:01Woo!
00:02Ah, yes.
00:03Tuesday edition of Shine Time.
00:05That might have been the best night of the year in sports.
00:09Wemby's all-time genius in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals.
00:13A double overtime classic win in OKC.
00:18The Sabres lose in Game 7.
00:21Only Buffalo.
00:22The baseball last night was piping hot.
00:26And it's been a fire.
00:27We're going to tell you exactly why my Knicks are winning tonight
00:31and will make the NBA Finals.
00:33Shine Time starts right now.
00:35Don't stop.
00:37Keep it coming, baby.
00:39Don't stop.
00:42Cassidy's got a pass.
00:43And throws it down.
00:46Five on four.
00:47Wemby's going to pull a deep three.
00:49Oh!
00:51Harper's guarded by Lynch Caruso.
00:52Wemby beat it inside.
00:54Threw it down with a foul.
00:58That was one of the single greatest nights I've ever seen as a sports fan.
01:04That performance by Victor Wemby-Nyama was an all-time, just dominant, sensational,
01:11eye-opening, eye-popping performance.
01:14Victor Wemby-Nyama last night was some kind of combination of Wilt Chamberlain,
01:18Steph Curry, Shohei Ohtani, and an alien freak.
01:23That was an iconic out-of-this-world performance.
01:26What transpired right from the jump in this game,
01:30this was one of those where, honestly,
01:33you'll never forget where you were when Wemby did this.
01:37watching him dominate all game long,
01:40watching him be the best player on SGA's floor,
01:45watching him act like the best player in all of sports,
01:48watching him do his thing when it matters the most,
01:52and carry this team to this kind of victory.
01:55Game one of the Western Conference Finals,
01:58are you kidding me, on the road in OKC,
02:01against a Thunder team that, simply put,
02:06was 8-0 in the playoffs, had it lost in the postseason?
02:10Six of those eight games were by double digits,
02:14and Wemby stole their soul and stole home court last night?
02:19That was unbelievable.
02:21Some of these plays were just next level.
02:25I mean, my goodness, you want to talk offense,
02:28you want to talk defense,
02:30you want to talk about rebounding the basketball,
02:33you want to talk about history,
02:3541 points, 24 rebounds,
02:37youngest player in NBA history with a 40-20 playoff game.
02:42Blocks, steals, everything about it was next level.
02:46I mean, you start thinking about what Wemby did in overtime,
02:51what Victor Wemby did to send the game to double overtime,
02:57to propel the baby Spurs,
02:59who averaged an age of 22 years old
03:02in their starting lineup last night,
03:04what he did making that shot last night,
03:08that was one of the all-time great shots
03:12and exclamation points on a night at the office
03:16that you will ever see.
03:18For Victor Wemby Namba,
03:20who's eight feet tall,
03:22to pull up last night from 28 feet away
03:26and hit that shot,
03:28I've never seen anything quite like that.
03:30To hit that shot at the end of the first overtime,
03:32to, from the logo,
03:35eight feet tall, 28 feet away,
03:37that is unreal.
03:39To stop and pop
03:40as someone who's eight feet tall in transition,
03:44that is wild.
03:46Absolutely wild.
03:48And look,
03:50you check on DraftKings today,
03:52it's basically even odds
03:54when it comes to
03:55who's ultimately going to win this series.
03:57And we say it all the time,
03:59you rarely see it in the history of the NBA.
04:01We can talk about the Thunder,
04:02we can talk about the Warriors,
04:03we can talk about the Chicago Bulls,
04:05we can talk about different versions
04:07of the Lakers and the Celtics
04:09and the Houston Rockets in the 90s
04:11and the San Antonio Spurs
04:12before their dynasty.
04:14You usually never see teams skip steps.
04:17You don't go from non-playoff team to champion.
04:20You have to deal with adversity.
04:21But when you have a player who can do this,
04:24I mean, look at this.
04:26Look at that reaction
04:28from Wemby and his teammates.
04:30I mean, we were all watching in amazement.
04:34This, great job by NBC capturing that shot last night.
04:39Watching the players on the Spurs,
04:42their jaws are hitting the floor.
04:44I mean, that's something you'll never see ever again.
04:47I mean, that was unreal.
04:50And when you see Wemby do this
04:52and you know it's his league
04:54and you know he's sensational
04:56and to steal that game last night,
04:58look, Spurs can absolutely win this series.
05:01We told you OKC in seven.
05:04I am not going to overreact.
05:05I'm not going to back off that pick and prediction.
05:08But I do think, and we've been screaming this, right?
05:11There are four teams all year
05:13since we launched Shine Time
05:14that I said you could see winning a championship.
05:16And this is exactly what I've been saying to you
05:18from day one.
05:19Those teams were OKC, San Antonio, the Lakers.
05:22I said that at the time in March.
05:24And the Knicks.
05:25That was it.
05:26Those were the four teams.
05:27And I said before this series,
05:28you could see San Antonio win.
05:31We picked OKC in seven.
05:32Look, I thought this was a bitter disappointment
05:35for OKC for a few different levels, right?
05:38Normally, when, and I thought San Antonio last night
05:42was phenomenal, even beyond Wemby,
05:44who was out of this world.
05:45I mean, you can't take your eyes off Victor Wemby-Yama.
05:48Those plays at the end, that dunk and one,
05:51that was incredible.
05:52Double overtime from Wemby
05:53when he outscored OKC by himself, nine to seven.
05:57The dunk at the end,
05:59Castle getting him the ball was incredible.
06:00But I honestly, last night,
06:03I sent this on the group chat
06:06with our Shine Time crew,
06:07with my guy Griff and Rich.
06:09The minutes that the Aaron Fox was out,
06:12I thought that grossly favored OKC.
06:16And I was wrong.
06:17And I'm thrilled that I was wrong on that.
06:18I want to admit that to you guys.
06:19We obviously were not on the air.
06:21And I thought that OKC would win a great one
06:23and a tight one last night.
06:24But when Fox was ruled out,
06:27I thought that was a turning point.
06:29Dylan Harper stepped in and he was unbelievable.
06:32I can give you the stats.
06:33The feel was even better.
06:34He filled up the box score,
06:36points, rebounds, steals.
06:38He was just omnipresent.
06:40I don't want to hear about Castle and the turnovers.
06:43He was the king of the Castle.
06:45He was terrific last night.
06:47Points, defense, assists.
06:49His assist total, 11, matched the turnovers.
06:51And honestly, I was stunned when Mike Tirico
06:53and Jamal Crawford and Reggie Miller
06:55mentioned his turnover number
06:57because it didn't even feel that way watching the game.
07:00You look at Vassal, he was terrific.
07:03Champagne was outstanding.
07:04I love Johnson off the bench.
07:07This is not a fluke in any way, shape, or form.
07:10And it all just fuels and funnels around
07:13this freak of a talent in Victor Wimbanyama.
07:16And look, I thought Alex Caruso was terrific last night
07:20and he was hitting shot after shot.
07:22He pumped in over 30.
07:23He was outstanding.
07:2431 points for Caruso.
07:26I live for SGA.
07:28I thought SGA had a bad game.
07:30I don't even want to hear,
07:31well, he played better as it moved along.
07:337 of 23 from the field.
07:36That's not good basketball.
07:37He made one field goal in the first half of this game.
07:41And I always defend SGA,
07:43always defend his style of play,
07:45always defend how ultimately he's able to get it done.
07:48Did make a good pass at the end.
07:49J-Dub, who came back missing the prior six games
07:52without a hamstring injury,
07:53he missed that wide open three, right?
07:56I really was disappointed how SGA played.
07:59And normally, think about this, right?
08:01When San Antonio, the underdog, the upstart team,
08:06when they outplay the defending champs,
08:09the MVP, their building,
08:11and you see, you know,
08:12the better team for four quarters,
08:15but OKC comes back, goes into overtime,
08:18the home team always finds a way to win.
08:20That didn't happen last night.
08:22Then after the first overtime,
08:23all right, now it's going to be OKC's time to shine.
08:26That wasn't the case.
08:27And that's all because of what we saw
08:30with Victor Wemba-Nyama,
08:31who was forcing the issue in every possible way.
08:34Caruso was a microwave last night.
08:37I mean, he was sensational.
08:38He was heating up.
08:39He was doing an unbelievable job.
08:42And look, I'm not here to make bold proclamations on now.
08:46This is Wemby's series in terms of San Antonio
08:50is going to find a way in a lock to win it.
08:52But that was last night.
08:54One of those games.
08:56I know it's game one.
08:57I love that we're going to get it.
08:58I think the series is going seven.
09:00I predicted that before the series started.
09:01We're going to get six more of these bad boys.
09:03And remember, I gave you this stat yesterday,
09:05and this to me was supremely important.
09:07Spurs are 4-1 against OKC in the regular season.
09:10That matters to me because I do think with the Thunder,
09:14with SGA over the last couple of seasons,
09:16there's this air of invincibility.
09:18But Wemby has this unbelievable knack
09:21to make that air just poof, disappear.
09:24And when you have a freak who can just pull up in transition,
09:28I mean, we could just wallpaper the whole show with this shot,
09:31and I would be A-OK with this.
09:33I mean, my goodness.
09:35Victor Wemby-Nyama, absolutely next level.
09:38This guy is must-see TV.
09:40He is a freak.
09:41He's like a Mad Libs game.
09:42If you ever played that game as a kid,
09:44you could just insert word and adjective here,
09:47and it all just relates because I've never seen anything,
09:51no one has seen anything quite like Victor Wemby-Nyama
09:55and what he was able to do last night.
09:57That's one of those games.
09:58Double overtime wins.
10:00You'll always remember where you were when,
10:02and if the Spurs go on to win this series,
10:06if the Spurs go on to win a championship
10:08and it's all in play,
10:09we will circle back to last night.
10:12The points, the rebounds, the blocks,
10:15the bomb Steph Curry-esque from the Logo 3-pointer.
10:18It's one of those games that you'll always remember
10:21as a Wemby fan, as an NBA fan, as a sports fan.
10:26Now, how much was Wemby motivated
10:28by watching SGA get handed the MVP before the game?
10:32Take a listen to this.
10:34Pretty natural response for a competitor
10:36to see another competitor get something that he wants,
10:38whether it's the MVP trophy or whatever it might be.
10:41I'm just curious if that was in your mind at all,
10:43knowing that Shea had got that award
10:44and you were in the top three for it,
10:46and, you know, did any part of tonight feel personal?
10:49I thought some of your facial expressions
10:50kind of looked like you were really, really going for it.
10:53Yeah, for sure.
10:55Everything you just said.
10:56What a breath of fresh air.
10:58I love Wemby.
10:59I love when he campaigned for the MVP
11:01during the course of the regular season.
11:03I love that question, and I love that answer.
11:06And what's the beauty of that answer
11:08and the way Wemby phrased it,
11:10he allows people like us, shows like ours,
11:14to play the clip without creating a headline.
11:19But, and I had no issue, obviously,
11:21and you've heard me say this,
11:23with SGA winning the MVP.
11:26But, clearly, the best player on the floor last night
11:30was Victor Wemby-Nyama.
11:31And I think that there are so many different ways
11:34to kind of split the conversation on this.
11:38You know, if you're going to say,
11:39best player in this series,
11:41well, based upon this season, last season,
11:43you could easily say SGA,
11:45build your team around,
11:46it's going to be Wemby-Nyama.
11:48Who could dominate this series?
11:49Wemby-Nyama.
11:50And Victor Wemby-Nyama went into this
11:52and was pissed off.
11:53And I like that.
11:54He played with an edge.
11:56He played like he was disrespected.
11:58He talked in the month of March,
11:59how much it would mean to him
12:00on a personal, professional level,
12:01of winning the MVP.
12:03Not just as an individual award,
12:05meaning his team was that great
12:06in terms of winning that kind of prestigious honor.
12:10So, to me, that's what sports, what it's all about.
12:14That's what you want from a superstar.
12:17Not this nonchalant, I don't care,
12:20see how the chips fall, whatever dopey cliche.
12:23Wemby doesn't do cliches.
12:25He goes out on the court
12:27and wants to kick ass and take names.
12:29And what also just gets me about,
12:31you know, someone like Wemby-Nyama,
12:33he sees this, and I love this,
12:35and he's genuinely pissed.
12:37He's genuinely annoyed
12:39that this trophy is going
12:41to Shea Gillis-Alexander from Adam Silver
12:43and not in his hands.
12:46This scene bothered the hell out of him.
12:50And then you watch the beginning
12:51of that game last night,
12:53and it's like, bam, Wemby was shot out of a cannon.
12:56And that's what you love if you're a sports fan,
12:58if you're a Spurs fan.
13:00It's none of this, well, SGA deserved it.
13:03Let's, you know, cliche the entire thing.
13:05No, that's not how it goes.
13:07So, to me, what I loved
13:10was every little element of Wemby
13:12before the game,
13:14during the game,
13:15after the game.
13:16And I also love this, too, right?
13:19Wemby understands who he is.
13:21His teammates absolutely love him.
13:23The bench reaction,
13:25I thought NBC,
13:26first of all, Mike Tirico is unbelievable,
13:27and Reggie Miller didn't even piss me off last night.
13:30But I loved the truck last night for NBC.
13:33The shots that they showed like this,
13:35the shots that they showed
13:36from the teammates on the bench,
13:40the shock and awe,
13:41Fox, who was in street clothes last night.
13:43Man, Wemby wanted that MVP.
13:46Wemby wanted that win.
13:48Wemby was out of this world once again,
13:51and that was just an incredible night
13:53to be a sports fan.
13:55Meanwhile, we're talking MVP,
13:57and our guy Shams Sharani
13:58has spilled the beans on SGA's MVP.
14:01And let's just say Shams
14:03did not get away with it.
14:04Dirk and Steve,
14:05you all both won MVPs,
14:07but I don't remember Shams spoiling it
14:09way back then.
14:10I don't think he was a romance.
14:12He was a baby then.
14:14What are we doing, man?
14:15It's Sunday, Shams.
14:16Go to brunch, you nerd.
14:18Come on.
14:19Hello to our senior insider,
14:21Shams Sharani,
14:22who joins us fresh off brunch.
14:24Shams, big news in Oklahoma City
14:26ahead of tonight's matchup
14:27against the Spurs.
14:28What update do you have on J-Dub here?
14:32So, I think it's important
14:34to kind of take this
14:35as it's a major topic for conversation
14:38on a few different layers
14:40and levels here.
14:42Number one,
14:44I love journalism.
14:47I love sports journalism.
14:50Shams Sharaniya
14:51is absolutely, positively
14:53as incredible as it gets
14:56when it comes to being
14:57a sports reporter
14:59and a sports journalist.
15:02Now, I think that when you
15:04listened ultimately
15:06to what Taylor Rooks
15:08and Dirk Nowitzki
15:10and Blake Griffin
15:11had to say
15:11after Shams pumped out
15:14his breaking news tweets
15:15and reports,
15:16and he was right,
15:17obviously,
15:18about the NBA
15:20and the MVP,
15:21I think that that was
15:23a really instant,
15:25interesting reaction.
15:27And then, of course,
15:28you had Draymond Green
15:30weighing into the conversation.
15:34Listen, I think the NBA
15:35has to do something about that.
15:37Like, ultimately,
15:37you're the NBA,
15:38you control the media.
15:39Like, yeah,
15:41like, Shams is an NBA reporter
15:43with ESPN
15:44who is a partner
15:45of the NBA.
15:46Like, to tweet
15:48at 6 o'clock
15:49in the morning
15:50who the NBA MVP is,
15:52it's actually embarrassing.
15:54Like, it makes our league
15:56look like we have
15:58no organization.
15:59Like, there's no way
16:00that can happen.
16:01Like, if there's supposed
16:02to be an announcement
16:03on Amazon Prime,
16:04like, the announcement
16:05has to happen
16:06on Amazon Prime.
16:07This is something
16:08Commissioner Silver
16:09has to do something about.
16:10Like, this can't happen.
16:12Like, come on.
16:14You leak it on Twitter?
16:16Draymond Green,
16:18unlikely voice of reason?
16:22So, I love Shams.
16:24Shams is my guy.
16:25We've had him on TV shows,
16:27radio shows,
16:28still love Shams.
16:30Obviously, I think that,
16:32you know,
16:33the Dirk Nowitzki,
16:35Shams was just a baby
16:36when I won the MVP,
16:37the age comment
16:38I could do without.
16:40The Blake Griffin,
16:42go to brunch Shams comments,
16:44all right.
16:45Amazon was pissed.
16:46And I get that,
16:47and rightly so.
16:49That was something.
16:50Shams was not pleased
16:52when Malika Andrews
16:54referenced the brunch
16:55when,
16:55and the comment
16:56from Blake Griffin,
16:57Shams just
16:59deadpanned at the camera.
17:01Didn't want to hear that
17:02from a colleague
17:03and a friend, right?
17:05And obviously,
17:06that's something
17:07that, you know,
17:09goes up the ladder
17:10when you have
17:11that kind of
17:11breaking news story
17:12and if you're
17:13Shams Sharaniya.
17:15You don't act alone.
17:16You run that up
17:17through editors.
17:18I do think
17:19Draymond Green
17:21is right.
17:22That is not
17:24a breaking news story.
17:27That's
17:28a breaking news
17:30league
17:30announcement.
17:32What was the breaking news?
17:34It was a tabulation.
17:36It was counting votes
17:38from journalists.
17:40Votes that were
17:41already in.
17:42Tim Bontemps
17:43from ESPN
17:44runs a straw poll.
17:47That's already
17:48public news.
17:49You could already
17:50feel out who
17:50ultimately is going
17:52to win.
17:53When it comes
17:54to journalism,
17:55you always,
17:57always
17:58trust your gut.
18:00And even if
18:01you're a league
18:02partner,
18:03if you're
18:03a reporter
18:04for ESPN,
18:06if you're a Shams,
18:06you get news.
18:08On a betting scandal,
18:09you break the story.
18:10But this is not
18:12a scandal.
18:13This is not
18:13a hiring
18:14or a firing.
18:15This is not
18:16a trade.
18:17This is not
18:18an injury.
18:19This is not
18:20a player coming back,
18:21a trade demand.
18:23This is not
18:23a transaction
18:24in any way,
18:25shape, or form.
18:27It's a vote
18:27tabulation.
18:29If you've noticed,
18:30we have never
18:31once seen
18:32a reporter
18:34break the news
18:35in the NFL
18:36when it comes
18:37to an award.
18:38Never happened.
18:39I will tell you
18:40a little inside
18:41baseball,
18:42the NFL Honors
18:43show is taped
18:45so people
18:46know what
18:48transpired.
18:49Also,
18:50if you understand
18:51NFL Honors
18:52and when that
18:52happens,
18:53oftentimes,
18:54like this past year
18:55with Mike Vrabel,
18:56you have award
18:58winners from
18:58the Super Bowl
18:59teams,
19:00and that means
19:01the recipient
19:03is not at
19:04NFL Honors.
19:05Meaning,
19:06Mike Vrabel knows,
19:07the Patriots know,
19:09PR for the NFL
19:10knows,
19:11people know
19:12who won.
19:13Nobody tweets it.
19:15There are also
19:16elements when it comes
19:17to gambling
19:18on these awards
19:20where if it's
19:22something that's
19:22still on the board,
19:24you could impact
19:26with the report
19:27how DraftKings,
19:30FanDuel,
19:31other betting sites,
19:32how they ultimately
19:33deal with payouts.
19:35That's an issue
19:37as well.
19:37I believe in sports
19:39journalism.
19:39I believe in journalism.
19:40I believe that
19:42when it comes
19:42to being a journalist
19:43for a league partner,
19:45you have to put
19:46your responsibility
19:47first and foremost.
19:49But this is not that.
19:51Baseball always has
19:53an awards dinner
19:54in New York City
19:55and they announce
19:56the awards.
19:57Who wins the MVP?
19:58Who wins the Cy Young?
19:59They have,
20:00oftentimes,
20:01they have it
20:01on MLB Network.
20:03Nobody breaks
20:04the story
20:05because it's something
20:07that a league partner
20:08does.
20:09I'm genuinely surprised
20:11that Shams did it
20:12because this,
20:14to me,
20:14is not sports journalism.
20:16It's an award show.
20:18There was a time
20:19when I hosted
20:20the NFL draft
20:21for SiriusXM.
20:22I worked with someone
20:24the late Gil Brandt,
20:25who would oftentimes
20:27put out misinformation
20:29that he thought
20:31would be helping friends.
20:32As someone
20:33who was hosting the show,
20:34it was mind-numbing.
20:36The Miami Dolphins
20:37will never draft
20:38Vontae Davis.
20:39He's not a Bill Parcells
20:40kind of guy.
20:41And then,
20:42guess who they would draft?
20:44Vontae Davis.
20:45I have countless
20:46of examples on this.
20:47So I thought one year
20:49it would be good
20:50to actually have
20:51the listeners
20:51have information.
20:53And so it was one year
20:54hosting the draft,
20:5532 teams.
20:56Before the picks,
20:58I had 20 of the 32 picks.
21:00Some of them,
21:01I kind of, you know,
21:02jokingly said,
21:03my doorman says
21:04the Buffalo Bills
21:05will take.
21:06My doorman loves this player.
21:08Others,
21:08I would use it
21:09to frame information.
21:10I think one of these
21:11two guys would make sense
21:12for the Arizona Cardinals.
21:14It was the biggest regret
21:16of my career
21:16because that's an event
21:18where if you're a viewer,
21:21a listener,
21:22the surprise
21:23is what matters.
21:25Heck,
21:26I knew,
21:27you knew,
21:28SGA
21:29was going to be
21:30the MVP.
21:31I was dead wrong
21:33and surprised
21:35on the order.
21:37For me,
21:38I was floored.
21:39Jokic was number two.
21:41I would have expected
21:41Wemby to be two,
21:42Luka to be three,
21:43Jokic to be four.
21:44So there was drama attached,
21:47even if you compare
21:48and contrast
21:48where Kate Cunningham
21:50got first place votes.
21:51So that to me
21:53was bizarre.
21:54So when it comes
21:55to tipping picks,
21:57I thought that was
21:58a little something
21:59that I learned from.
22:01I would assume
22:02that Sham Sharania
22:03will learn from this
22:04as well.
22:05I think that journalism
22:07should be alive.
22:08Journalism is something
22:09supremely important.
22:11Sports journalism
22:12is awesome
22:13and everything
22:14and where we get
22:15our breaking news
22:16on literally
22:17on the New York Post
22:18YouTube page.
22:19The California Post
22:20sports YouTube page.
22:22That journalism matters.
22:24This is a vote tabulation.
22:27You're counting votes.
22:28That's what this is.
22:30And you have league partners,
22:32just like in the NFL.
22:34You're not going to have
22:35a reporter from Fox
22:37break something
22:38when it's on NFL Network
22:40or ESPN or CBS
22:41or Netflix or Amazon.
22:43And that's what Draymond Green
22:45is talking about
22:46with the compare
22:47and contrast here
22:48when it comes to
22:50the NBA
22:51versus the National Football League
22:54and Major League Baseball.
22:56So I am a firm believer
22:58when it comes to journalism
23:00and sports journalism.
23:01And Shams is the absolute best.
23:04This was a weird one, though.
23:06This is one I heard
23:08Adam Schefter say something
23:09on a podcast recently.
23:10He doesn't report
23:1195% of the things
23:13he hears, right?
23:14And I'm telling you,
23:16if Schefter knew
23:17who the NFL MVP was,
23:19he wouldn't put it out there.
23:21Just trust me on that.
23:23You're not going to tip picks
23:25if the draft is on ESPN.
23:27You're not going to do it.
23:28You're not going to tip picks
23:30if the draft was on another network
23:32because of the drama
23:34and the intrigue
23:35and the fan.
23:37That sometimes you have to think,
23:39what is the fan going to think?
23:41What is the viewer going to think
23:42in addition to the sports league?
23:45So, I love Shams.
23:48But I didn't expect Draymond Green
23:49to be that unlikely voice of reason.
23:51I think that Draymond was 100% spot on.
23:56And here's hoping, right?
23:58Because Shams does not deserve
23:59criticism ever for his reporting.
24:01I am always on Team Shams
24:03when it comes to Shams
24:03versus Giannis or Doc Rivers
24:06or anyone else, right?
24:07You do what he does for a living.
24:08You're going to have people
24:10who love you,
24:10people who don't like you.
24:12That's just how it is.
24:13And I'm sure,
24:14I mean, you don't know,
24:15sometimes you're in that
24:16kind of position.
24:18Shams might not have even been
24:19seeking that information.
24:22Someone gives it to him.
24:23That's how it works.
24:25You have to set up
24:26a live shot with SGA.
24:28Someone knew
24:29and might have just given it to Shams,
24:31might not have been
24:32even seeking that information.
24:34Maybe he was having brunch.
24:36Maybe he wasn't.
24:37But here's hoping
24:38he learned something from that
24:39because ultimately,
24:41at the end of the day,
24:42it's the fan,
24:43the consumer,
24:43who matters.
24:45Finally,
24:46the Eastern Conference Finals.
24:49Buckle up, Buttercup.
24:51It's been so long.
24:52We thought we'd remind you
24:53how the Knicks got here.
24:53For the second consecutive season,
24:57the Knicks will advance
24:57to the Eastern Conference Finals.
25:00They've won seven consecutive
25:02playoff games.
25:08A sweep.
25:10Oh, baby.
25:11I am so fired up
25:13for the Knicks
25:14and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
25:17Game one tonight.
25:18The Knicks quest begins
25:22after nine-day break.
25:24It feels like
25:24this has been
25:25a lifetime
25:27since the Knicks have played.
25:28The Knicks,
25:30yeah,
25:30can't hardly wait.
25:31Perfect back page,
25:32of course,
25:32from the New York Post
25:34and all the coverage
25:35in the Post,
25:36all the articles.
25:37I couldn't stop reading.
25:39Steph Bondi,
25:40Mike Vaccaro,
25:40and everyone
25:41who covers
25:42as Zach Braziller
25:43was unbelievable.
25:44He had some great stuff
25:45in the paper.
25:47Check it out.
25:47A hard copy,
25:48one in my hands,
25:49or online,
25:49of course.
25:50It's unreal.
25:51I think this is
25:53the ultimate situation
25:55in terms of rest,
25:57rust,
25:58other side momentum,
26:01fatigue.
26:01The Knicks,
26:02obviously,
26:03haven't played
26:04in nine days,
26:05right?
26:06And that's,
26:07that's a vacation.
26:09Especially when you're
26:09piping hot
26:10and you've won
26:10seven straight
26:11and you're just
26:11absolutely trucking
26:13the competition.
26:14I mean,
26:15this team has been
26:16on fire,
26:19destroying everyone.
26:20And the way they
26:21beat the stuffing
26:22out of the Philadelphia
26:2376ers,
26:24it's inspiring.
26:25I think getting
26:27O.J. Ananobi healthy
26:28was everything.
26:28I think that,
26:30you know,
26:30you look at the other side
26:31for Cleveland,
26:32while the Knicks
26:33have been on a holiday,
26:35Cleveland has played
26:36the most amount of games
26:37you could play
26:38in the first couple rounds.
26:39Seven games against Toronto,
26:41seven games against Detroit.
26:42And it's interesting
26:44in terms of confidence,
26:45which I think is a real
26:46thing for Cleveland,
26:47especially beating Detroit
26:49by 30 points.
26:51That was unreal
26:52when you look at it
26:54on Sunday night
26:55in Detroit.
26:56That was just incredible.
26:58You know,
26:58the confidence
26:59and the momentum
27:01for Cleveland is real.
27:02I would also argue
27:04fatigue is going to be
27:06a thing here, too.
27:08I unearthed this stat
27:09for you.
27:09I think this is interesting.
27:11Teams off a sweep
27:12versus teams
27:14off a seven-game series
27:16in NBA playoff history.
27:19The team off the sweep,
27:22game one is 19-4.
27:23I find that to be
27:25pretty interesting
27:26and pretty remarkable here
27:27in terms of setting
27:29that tone and that tempo.
27:30Now,
27:31here's our official prediction.
27:33I think the Knicks
27:34are going to win tonight.
27:35I think the Knicks
27:36are going to win
27:37by seven to ten points.
27:38I wouldn't touch it
27:39with the seven-and-a-half
27:40point spread.
27:41I do think Cleveland
27:42has a ton of talent.
27:44And I think the Knicks
27:45tonight will be led
27:46by Jalen Brunson.
27:47I think you're going
27:48to see Karl-Anthony Towns
27:49play brilliantly again.
27:51I think you're going
27:52to see Mike Brown
27:53coaches Derry Aroff.
27:55I think that the crowd
27:57and the energy,
27:58warm, hot, human nights
28:00in New York
28:01feels like 1994
28:04all over again.
28:05It's been a minute
28:06where you have May,
28:08late May basketball.
28:09It's piping hot outside.
28:11It's baseball season.
28:13Feels like it's July 4th
28:16weather-wise.
28:17It all adds to it
28:18in the ambiance
28:19when it comes to New York.
28:21And listen,
28:22I think the Knicks
28:24in terms of rest, rust,
28:26OGN and OB being healthy
28:27to me is everything.
28:29I think the Knicks
28:30will win this series in six.
28:32I think Cleveland
28:32is a really strong team.
28:34I think Cleveland
28:35is going to give
28:35the Knicks problems.
28:36I think Cleveland's
28:37bigs are excellent.
28:39I think that, obviously,
28:40Donovan Mitchell is superb.
28:41And our official
28:42Shine Time prediction
28:44led by Jalen Brunson,
28:45I am going to take the Knicks
28:47to beat the Cleveland
28:48Cavaliers tonight.
28:50I'm going to take the Knicks
28:51to beat Cleveland
28:52and go to the NBA Finals.
28:54And remember,
28:56they fired Tom Thibodeau.
28:57It's all about making
28:59the NBA Finals.
29:00And frankly,
29:01competing for a champion
29:02championship,
29:03if not winning a championship,
29:04you only get so many bites
29:06at the proverbial apple,
29:07I think the Knicks
29:08are absolutely going to be able
29:10to handle success
29:11and handle prosperity.
29:13So, who are the five best players
29:16in the Eastern Conference Finals?
29:19I'm glad you asked.
29:21Let's rank them.
29:22The best player on the court
29:23is Jalen Brunson.
29:25And if you disagree,
29:27you're entitled to
29:28your wrong opinion.
29:30Jalen Brunson,
29:31I wouldn't trade him
29:33for anyone or anything.
29:35Oh, sure,
29:36there are better players
29:37in the NBA,
29:37but as a Knicks fan,
29:39you need someone
29:41who is mentally
29:42and physically tough,
29:44who's not afraid
29:45to take shots like this
29:47in the fourth quarter
29:48of a very competitive game.
29:50You need someone
29:51who has won championships,
29:52albeit for Brunson,
29:53on the collegiate level,
29:54but knows how to run a team
29:57and deal with success
29:59and handle prosperity
30:00and, simultaneously, adversity.
30:03And after wins,
30:05understand it's just one
30:06and it's on to the next
30:08and have that singular focus.
30:10His ability to make shots,
30:11his ability to know
30:13when to get everyone else involved,
30:15his ability to say,
30:15okay, if the team's better
30:17at having Carl Anthony Towns
30:18as a point center,
30:20that's going to be
30:22the best possible thing
30:23to win the next game,
30:25to win the next quarter,
30:26to win a championship
30:27in New York.
30:28He loves it.
30:29He embraces it.
30:31And I think if you're doubting
30:32this list and doubting
30:34where I'm putting Jalen Brunson,
30:35you're just a hater
30:36and a critic.
30:37Number two on my list
30:39is Donovan Mitchell.
30:40I think Donovan Mitchell
30:41is unbelievable.
30:42Donovan Mitchell, to me,
30:44became a truly great player
30:47based upon what he did
30:49in Game 7.
30:50He is a big baseball fan.
30:52He is a big Mets fan.
30:54Grew up in Westchester County.
30:55His dad works for the Mets.
30:56He was talking to the press
30:58before Game 1
30:59wearing a Mets hat.
31:00A lot of respect
31:00for doing that, obviously.
31:02And he went out
31:03and he pitched a perfect game
31:05in Game 7.
31:06I thought that was just incredible.
31:08And you look at what Mitchell did.
31:10This shot was incredible.
31:11But it was the point.
31:12It was the rebounds.
31:14It was the assists.
31:15It was the way he distributed early.
31:18When I say pitching
31:18the perfect game,
31:20zero turnovers.
31:22This entire postseason
31:24has been a referendum
31:25on Donovan Mitchell
31:26as an NBA player
31:27and where he is
31:28in terms of a ranking
31:29in his class.
31:30And I think he deserves
31:32the accolades.
31:33I loved him in Utah.
31:34Won him on the Knicks
31:34in the worst possible way.
31:35He's been excellent in Cleveland.
31:37His one yeah,
31:38but on his great career
31:39has been how he's performed
31:40in the postseason.
31:41Getting to the conference finals
31:43for the first time
31:44in his career is a big deal.
31:46I expect him to carry it forward.
31:48And Donovan Mitchell
31:49to me is the second best player
31:51in the Knicks-Cavs series.
31:53Number three on my list
31:55is Karl-Anthony Towns.
31:56And frankly,
31:57I debated two and three.
31:59I think Kat is worthy
32:01of being in this spot.
32:02I think that Karl-Anthony Towns,
32:04it's kind of crazy
32:05and funny, right?
32:06And I hope we don't have
32:07to go back to this
32:08at any point
32:09for the rest of the postseason.
32:10Remember the conversation
32:12during the year
32:13about fitting in
32:14a Mike Brown's offense?
32:15Remember the conversation
32:16about Katz
32:18where he's kind of just meandering
32:20during the course of a game?
32:21Remember when Hall of Famer
32:22Tracy McGrady
32:23made national headlines
32:25right here on Shine Time
32:26when he questioned the effort
32:28and the energy
32:29of Karl-Anthony Towns?
32:31Those topics for conversation,
32:33gone.
32:34Credit Katz,
32:35credit Chris Gent,
32:36the assistant,
32:37they went to Mike Brown
32:38after game number three
32:39and said,
32:40we're going to change
32:41the offense
32:42around Karl-Anthony Towns.
32:44It's made the entire team better.
32:46He has been smart.
32:47He's been tough.
32:48He's been dominant.
32:49He's gotten his teammates involved.
32:51He's also been physical
32:52and tough down low.
32:54His offense, his defense,
32:55he's been smart
32:56in terms of foul trouble
32:57and the way he has just
32:59played the game.
33:00He's always been
33:01a super smart player.
33:02Now he's smart
33:04and tough simultaneously.
33:05The shot is falling.
33:07I can't get enough
33:08of what I'm seeing here
33:09from Karl-Anthony Towns.
33:11Number four,
33:12OG Ananobi.
33:13For the sake of being fair,
33:15OG Ananobi, to me,
33:16has been the Knicks MVP
33:17throughout this postseason.
33:18Like, if you're asking
33:20who's been the best,
33:21most valuable,
33:22most important player
33:22for the Knicks,
33:23it's OG Ananobi.
33:25And the fact that
33:26Steph Bondi from the post
33:27was all over this,
33:28OG practiced full
33:30on Friday and Saturday
33:32while the Cavs
33:34and Pistons were playing,
33:35this to me is everything
33:37and why I feel comfortable
33:38putting him on this list.
33:40OG Ananobi is a baller.
33:43He's a guy you want
33:44on your team.
33:45His offense has been unreal.
33:47I'm a little concerned
33:48about the layoff
33:49and how that's going
33:49to impact OG.
33:51Hope he starts hot
33:52from the outside
33:53early tonight.
33:54I think that he will.
33:55His defense is just amazing.
33:57You have to be great
33:58in this series
33:59against Cleveland.
34:00Cleveland has a lot of guys
34:01who could score
34:02on the perimeter.
34:03A lot of guys
34:03who are great
34:04in terms of the dribble drive
34:06and, you know,
34:07having the three and D
34:08kind of guys
34:08like OG Ananobi.
34:10That's why Leon Rose
34:11brought him in
34:12in the R.J. Barrett deal
34:13in the first place.
34:14So I feel very comfortable
34:15knowing that he's healthy
34:16putting OG Ananobi
34:18number four on this list.
34:20Number five,
34:21Evan Mobley.
34:22I'm a huge Evan Mobley fan.
34:24Evan Mobley has been
34:26the defensive player
34:27of the year.
34:27Evan Mobley, to me,
34:28is vastly underrated
34:30in league circles.
34:31Look, I know he's a little thin
34:34for some people.
34:35I don't care.
34:36Mobley's defense is terrific.
34:38His offense is outstanding.
34:39I love how tough
34:41and how clutch he is.
34:42I know how much
34:43Donovan Mitchell trusts him.
34:45He is always one
34:46of those players.
34:47Heck, I go back to USC
34:48with Mobley.
34:49He was terrific in college.
34:50High draft pick.
34:51Mitchell loves him.
34:53Kenny Atkinson loves him.
34:55And I think he is going
34:57to be outstanding
34:58in this series.
34:59If you're a Cavs fan
35:01or a Knicks hater,
35:03let's say you're,
35:04I don't know,
35:04a Nets fan
35:05and you'll be rooting
35:06for the Cavs
35:06during the course
35:07of this series,
35:09Mobley's one of those guys
35:10where you know
35:10it's going to be
35:11his time to shine.
35:12He always has the ability
35:14to deliver the goods.
35:15Now, obviously,
35:16when you look at this list,
35:17right,
35:18I want it crystal clear.
35:19And I acknowledge
35:20the three games
35:21he played well.
35:22Not game seven.
35:23James Harden's not
35:24on this list.
35:25I don't even consider
35:26him, frankly, close.
35:28I do think that Cleveland
35:30has more depth, frankly,
35:33than the Knicks
35:34in this series.
35:35Struis has been amazing.
35:36Merrill has been amazing.
35:37Jared Allen,
35:38who we'll get to
35:38in a second,
35:39has been amazing.
35:40But, frankly,
35:41I don't believe
35:42in James Harden
35:43in this series at all.
35:45In fact,
35:46I trust Mikael Bridges
35:48much more
35:48than I trust James Harden.
35:50And, look,
35:53Bridges quietly
35:54has been superb
35:56since he hit rock bottom
35:58against Atlanta.
35:59Look,
35:59we all know this
36:00about Bridges.
36:01His lows,
36:02you can't even see them.
36:02They're so low.
36:03His highs are outstanding,
36:05right?
36:05When Bridges shows up,
36:07he is an integral
36:08X factor
36:09and as important
36:09a player as any
36:10for the Knicks
36:11in this series.
36:12But I think
36:13when you go through
36:14a list like this,
36:15it's how I would
36:16rate him now.
36:17It's also,
36:18you know from me
36:18when I put this list together
36:20how I expect them
36:22to play in this series.
36:24No one in this
36:25Eastern Conference Finals
36:27will be better
36:28than Jalen Brunson
36:30and he will deliver
36:31my New York Knicks
36:33to the NBA Finals
36:35and a real chance
36:37to win a championship.
36:38By the way,
36:39remember when
36:40Jared Allen said this?
36:42You had mentioned
36:43you thought the team
36:44had been a little bit rattled.
36:45Mm-hmm.
36:46How do you make sure
36:47that next time
36:49that isn't the case?
36:50Is it as simple
36:50as to reinsert
36:51other things
36:51that you need
36:52to kind of go on?
36:53Right.
36:54I think it's experience.
36:56I think it's a situation
36:57that we've been all
36:58looking forward to
36:59since we all
37:00got to Cleveland.
37:01We knew it was
37:02going to happen eventually.
37:03It was,
37:05even for me,
37:06the lights were
37:06brighter than expected.
37:08So that was
37:10from 2023
37:11and Jared Allen,
37:13yeah,
37:14the lights were
37:15brighter than he expected.
37:17I am so glad
37:18we're going to take a minute
37:19and focus on this matchup.
37:21First of all,
37:22Jared Allen's
37:23one of my favorite players.
37:24I think the Brooklyn Nets,
37:25and I said this in real time,
37:26fouled up
37:27when they put him
37:27in the Harden deal
37:28and traded him.
37:29It always comes back
37:30to James Harden
37:30in some way,
37:31shape, or form,
37:31when they traded him
37:33away in the Harden trade
37:34in the first place.
37:35But go back to this.
37:38Jared Allen
37:38got absolutely exposed.
37:42And Mitchell Robinson
37:44ate him for lunch.
37:46That's why his tongue is out.
37:48I mean, my goodness,
37:49he absolutely destroyed him.
37:51And the Knicks,
37:52I was there for game one
37:53of that series,
37:55absolutely wiped the floor
37:56at the Cleveland Cavaliers.
37:57Now, I don't expect
37:58this matchup
38:00to be that lopsided
38:01in this specific series
38:03this year,
38:04but I do think Mitch,
38:06we'll throw up the X,
38:08is the ultimate X factor.
38:10Mitchell Robinson
38:10is a free agent
38:11at the end of the year.
38:12Mitchell Robinson
38:12is coming off
38:13of a superb series
38:14against Philadelphia.
38:15And I think Mitchell Robinson
38:17on defense,
38:19rebounding,
38:20toughness,
38:21he's even hit
38:22a couple of free throws.
38:23I think he needs
38:25to have a big series.
38:26Also,
38:27Jared Allen
38:27has learned,
38:28and to the extent
38:30where Donovan Mitchell
38:31talked to the press
38:33after game seven
38:34and said,
38:34we're going to start
38:35calling him game seven J.A.
38:37because Jared Allen
38:38has been unbelievable
38:40in two game sevens,
38:43the Toronto series
38:44and the Detroit series.
38:46So I think,
38:47you know,
38:47it's so easy,
38:49sexy,
38:50obvious to talk about
38:52Brunson and Mitchell.
38:54I think that watching,
38:56and Mitch isn't even
38:57starting, obviously.
38:58Jared Allen
38:59and Mitchell Robinson,
39:01this is a big one
39:02because Allen
39:03has been so key
39:05in terms of winning
39:07for Cleveland.
39:08And if the Cavs
39:09are going to prove
39:09people like me wrong,
39:11Jared Allen's going to be
39:12a major reason why.
39:13But Mitch is going to be
39:14ready for this.
39:15He's always an unsung,
39:17forgotten hero
39:18when it comes to
39:19Knicks basketball.
39:20The real ones
39:20most especially know.
39:22I think this is part
39:23of the game within the game,
39:24the matchup within the matchup.
39:26And I expect Mitchell Robinson
39:28to hold his own
39:30going up against Jared Allen
39:31and be a terrific player
39:34on defense and rebounding
39:36and reminds Jared Allen
39:39about that time
39:40where the lights
39:41were too bright
39:42in the big city
39:43when he and Cleveland
39:44lost to the Knicks
39:45in the first round
39:46a few years ago.
39:47Let's shine on football
39:49where Eli Manning
39:50and Bill Belichick
39:51both shine the light
39:52on some of the biggest
39:53controversies of their careers.
39:55Let's start with Eli Manning.
39:57What exactly was wrong
39:57with the Chargers?
39:58I just didn't feel
39:59like they were the most
40:00committed team
40:01to winning at the time.
40:03Marty Schottenheimer
40:04was the head coach
40:05who was awesome.
40:06Had great respect for him.
40:07But like they came
40:08to work me out
40:09in New Orleans.
40:10Went to dinner
40:11and like there was
40:12this friction between
40:13you know the head coach,
40:15general manager,
40:16like the owners.
40:17They're all like yelling
40:18kind of like fighting.
40:19We were at a Marriott
40:20like restaurant
40:21and you know
40:22Schottenheimer's mad
40:23that we're he's like
40:24we're in New Orleans
40:24reading out of Marriott
40:25and you know
40:26so he's like pissed.
40:27They're like kind of
40:28just bickering
40:29and it just didn't seem
40:30like there was
40:30a whole lot of like
40:31agreement on things
40:32and like they were
40:33kind of like committed
40:34to building a great
40:35winning franchise
40:36at that moment.
40:38Well, first of all
40:39great job by
40:40Bustle with the boys
40:41and they are fantastic.
40:42Will Compton,
40:43Taylor LeJuan,
40:44for getting that
40:44from Eli Manning
40:45and listen,
40:47I've never heard
40:48that story before.
40:49I've never heard Eli
40:50unearth all that
40:52kind of information
40:53and give that up
40:54and you know forever
40:55and I have known
40:56Archie Manning forever.
40:57I had a great
40:58relationship with Archie.
40:59I always thought
41:00it was Archie
41:01who basically said
41:02to Eli,
41:02just remember
41:03what happened to Archie
41:05in New Orleans
41:06and didn't want that
41:07to happen to his son
41:08in terms of being part
41:08of a bad team,
41:10bad organization.
41:12How about Eli?
41:13He was the one
41:14driving the bus on that.
41:15And first of all,
41:16and I love my Marriott Hotels.
41:19Let's be crystal clear
41:19about that.
41:20I love my Marriott Bonvoy card.
41:22You can't in New Orleans
41:24eat at a Marriott's
41:26at the bar restaurant
41:27and get a cheeseburger.
41:28New Orleans is unbelievable.
41:30When we had the Super Bowl
41:31recently in New Orleans
41:32and it should always
41:33be in the rotation,
41:34I mean, you know,
41:35we went for dinner
41:36at, you know,
41:36Desi Vegas Steakhouse,
41:37saw Sean Payton there.
41:39I mean,
41:41the culinary expertise
41:43is off the charts,
41:44all different styles
41:45of food.
41:46You can't eat
41:47at a Marriott.
41:48And Marty Schottenheimer
41:50and A.J. Smith
41:51yelling at each other?
41:53I mean, come on.
41:55And listen,
41:56I'll give you another
41:56quick anecdote.
41:58When I did my radio show
42:00on training camp tours
42:02back in the day,
42:03including during this era,
42:05I would have to schedule
42:07interviews with Marty
42:08Schottenheimer
42:08and A.J. Smith.
42:09We're talking about a coach
42:11and a GM of a football team
42:13two hours apart
42:15because they couldn't be
42:17on the same floor
42:18at the same time
42:20in the same building.
42:22There's a coach
42:24and a GM
42:24of a professional sports team.
42:26Not to mention,
42:27Eli not only understood
42:28that and just how insane
42:30Schottenheimer
42:31and A.J. Smith
42:33were together,
42:33but they had Drew Brees.
42:36So I give Eli credit.
42:38I mean, the last 10 years
42:39for the Giants
42:39have been a disaster,
42:40but, you know,
42:41when Eli joined the Giants,
42:43they were a model franchise.
42:45And Eli Manning,
42:46who I don't think
42:47is a Hall of Famer,
42:48is an all-time great giant
42:51and an all-time great
42:52New York City athlete
42:53and an all-time great winner.
42:55And he picked the right place.
42:58Look, this has happened
42:58a couple times
42:59in the history of the NFL.
43:01Worked for Eli Manning,
43:02worked for John Elway,
43:03and sometimes
43:04if you have the hammer,
43:06you might as well use it.
43:07So that was terrific.
43:09And by the way,
43:10what a blessing for the Giants.
43:11Now, I always believe
43:12Philip Rivers should be
43:13in the Hall of Fame.
43:14Philip Rivers had a better career
43:15than Eli Manning,
43:17but, you know,
43:17that's a different topic
43:18for a different day.
43:20But Eli Manning
43:21absolutely nailed it.
43:22I mean,
43:23now we're showing pictures
43:24of the Hall of Famer.
43:25Now we're showing pictures
43:27of the guy
43:28who was the more
43:28dominant quarterback.
43:30Now we're showing pictures
43:32of the guy
43:32who would throw
43:34for 4,000 yards
43:36and absolutely dominate
43:37was a legit superstar.
43:40Eli Manning
43:40won a couple Super Bowls
43:41and that matters, right?
43:42The Hall of Fame case
43:44for Eli,
43:44it's those two seasons,
43:46those two playoff runs.
43:48The case against
43:49for Eli Manning,
43:50let's just say,
43:51is everything else.
43:52Meanwhile,
43:53Jets fans,
43:53I've never forgotten
43:54Bill Belichick's exit stage
43:55right from New York
43:56before he even coached a game.
43:58Here's Bill
43:58spilling the tea.
44:00Did you ever think
44:01like maybe I should have
44:03grabbed like an envelope
44:04or like a half-torn sheet
44:06of paper
44:06to write my resignation
44:07letter on?
44:09Yeah,
44:09in retrospect,
44:10I don't think
44:10that was the greatest choice.
44:11Yeah.
44:12I don't know.
44:13It got the message across.
44:14It certainly did.
44:15Yeah,
44:15it did.
44:16I mean,
44:16I had worked for Modell
44:19and the two trains
44:20that were coming down
44:21the tracks
44:21were Dolan
44:23and Woody Johnson
44:24and I just felt like
44:26I don't feel comfortable
44:28working for whichever
44:29one of those guys
44:29ends up with the team.
44:31Nothing personal.
44:32I just,
44:33you know,
44:33I had a bad experience
44:34and I was,
44:36either I'm going to work
44:37for a good owner
44:38or an owner
44:39that I felt comfortable with
44:40and shared a vision with
44:41or I'm not working for that.
44:46I mean,
44:47that's great stuff.
44:48Great stuff from Bill Belichick
44:50as he had to explain
44:51why he wrote,
44:52I resign as the HC of the NYJ
44:54famously on the cocktail napkin
44:56and never coached for the Jets
44:59and great stuff
45:00as he sat down with PFT Commenter
45:02and with our guy Big Cat
45:04on part of my take
45:05and listen,
45:08I get it
45:09and I agreed with him at the time
45:10and it's all about ownership
45:13and it actually correlates
45:14brilliantly and perfectly
45:15with Eli, right?
45:16You get a bite at the apple
45:18and Belichick had been
45:19the Browns coach,
45:19had success
45:20and obviously the move
45:21and you want to work
45:22for Woody Johnson?
45:23Hell no.
45:24I mean,
45:25Woody Johnson's
45:26one of the worst owners
45:27in the history of sports.
45:29The Dolan family,
45:31I mean,
45:32Knicks are in the
45:32Eastern Conference Finals today.
45:34Knicks were a chaotic mess
45:36for 20 years.
45:38So,
45:40Belichick was right.
45:41By the way,
45:41also during that conversation
45:44with our guy Big Cat
45:45and PFT Commenter,
45:47Belichick said
45:49he doesn't drink coffee?
45:51Look,
45:51I think Belichick
45:52is the GOAT.
45:53I think you should change
45:54the name of the trophy
45:55to the Bill Belichick trophy,
45:58not the Lombardi trophy.
45:59But if you don't drink coffee,
46:00that's a character flaw.
46:02I wake up in the morning
46:03and I have two cups of coffee
46:04in the morning.
46:05In fact,
46:06I'm so crazy
46:07that I prepare my coffee
46:09for me and for my wife
46:11at night.
46:11So this way,
46:13when I come down
46:14to do my work
46:14and prep for Shine Time
46:16and my SiriusXM radio show,
46:18I've got a nice,
46:19big, fat pot of coffee
46:21ready for me.
46:22Not one cup,
46:22two cups.
46:23After I'm done
46:24on my radio show,
46:25what do I do?
46:25Oh,
46:26I go to Starbucks.
46:27I don't have a small cup.
46:28I have a monster cup.
46:30A monster cup of coffee.
46:31Black coffee
46:32in the morning,
46:33little oat milk
46:34with the coffee
46:34in the afternoon.
46:36So that's basically
46:37if you consider
46:38the real size
46:38of these cups of coffee,
46:41like five, six cups
46:43of coffee a day.
46:44If you don't like coffee,
46:45that's a character flaw.
46:47Seriously,
46:47I'm judging you.
46:48I just want to be
46:49crystal clear on that.
46:50Who doesn't like coffee?
46:52Who doesn't need coffee?
46:53I mean,
46:54I drink it at black.
46:55Put a little oat milk in.
46:56You can put sweetener
46:57in if you want.
46:58How do you wake up
47:00and not have coffee?
47:02Not crave coffee?
47:03The act of drinking coffee.
47:05I sit on my favorite chair
47:06of my house
47:07on a Saturday morning.
47:08I've got a physical copy
47:10of the New York Post.
47:11I'm sipping my coffee.
47:13You know who's winning?
47:15This guy.
47:16But wait,
47:16there's more.
47:19That's the reaction
47:21to the Phil Deneau goal.
47:23And they had it twice
47:24in the opening period.
47:25Jam-packed rink
47:27at Montreal.
47:29I still can't believe
47:30that happened.
47:31I mean,
47:35how does a Buffalo
47:36sports fan exist?
47:38And I am openly rooting
47:40for the Buffalo Bills
47:41to win a championship
47:43for the Bills fans,
47:45for Josh Allen,
47:46for the people
47:46in lovely western New York.
47:49It's 2-0 Montreal.
47:51Then the Sabres come back.
47:52I can't believe
47:53they didn't count that goal.
47:54And then after everything
47:56this team has been through,
47:57the longest droughts
47:59in the NHL,
48:00the longest droughts
48:01in North American
48:01professional sports,
48:02they go to overtime
48:03and it's a soft goal
48:05that URL,
48:06the goalie,
48:07allows.
48:08And they have to watch
48:09this Montreal celebration.
48:14I'm watching this.
48:15I'm thinking of
48:16the Dominic Hasek years.
48:17If you're a Sabres fan,
48:19I'm thinking of
48:21wide rights.
48:22I'm thinking of
48:23the Music City Miracle.
48:25I'm thinking of
48:2513 seconds,
48:27the Chiefs game,
48:28Sean McDermott.
48:29What the hell
48:29were you doing?
48:30Squibits!
48:31I'm thinking of
48:32this year against Denver.
48:35Brandon Cooks
48:36absolutely caught that.
48:38I mean, my goodness.
48:39I...
48:40Why can't nice things
48:41happen?
48:42They deserve it
48:43to the amazing sports fans
48:45for the Buffalo Bills
48:46and the Buffalo Sabres.
48:47And this is another reason
48:48why I want to see
48:49the Buffalo Bills
48:50win a championship
48:51this year.
48:52And I think
48:53they'll be in position
48:54to do it.
48:55How about some baseball?
48:56How about the A's
48:57last night?
48:58Part of this
48:59greatest night
49:00of all time
49:01and what transpired,
49:02this was just
49:03absolutely incredible.
49:05Not just from
49:05a hockey standpoint.
49:06Not just from
49:08a basketball standpoint.
49:09A baseball standpoint.
49:11JT Ginn,
49:12who actually has put up
49:13really good numbers
49:14for the Sacramento,
49:16Oakland,
49:17Vegas,
49:17Rob Manford A's.
49:19He's throwing
49:20a no-hitter.
49:20He loses
49:21the no-hitter
49:22in the ninth
49:22and bam!
49:23Instantly
49:24gives up a walk-off
49:26to the Angels
49:28who had previously
49:29lost six straight.
49:30You can't make that up
49:32if you tried.
49:33How about the Padres
49:34and the Dodgers
49:35last night?
49:35Yamamoto gave up
49:36an early homer
49:37and that was it.
49:39You saw
49:40an unbelievable game.
49:42Well-pitched,
49:42well-played.
49:43Michael King,
49:44the former Yankee,
49:46just incredible.
49:47Striking out Dodgers
49:48left and right.
49:48Mason Miller,
49:50who's been lights out,
49:51actually put a couple
49:51guys on and then
49:52slammed the door shut.
49:55Incredible stuff
49:56when you looked at this game.
49:57Also, great job by baseball
49:59on the heels of
49:59rivalry weekend,
50:01extending it into this week.
50:02That was a thrilling
50:04and terrific ball game.
50:06Padres beat the Dodgers
50:07behind Michael King,
50:09won nothing.
50:10Dodgers pitching injuries.
50:11Look,
50:12I refuse to hit
50:13any kind of panic button,
50:14but it's officially
50:15a thing here.
50:16Blake Snell,
50:18loose bodies in the elbow,
50:19that's not great.
50:21Taylor Glass now,
50:22once again,
50:23made of glass
50:24and I love glass.
50:26Now,
50:27back,
50:28he is not going to be able to
50:29with the back spasms.
50:30He was shut down
50:31in terms of throwing.
50:32Of course,
50:33Edwin Diaz
50:34has been out
50:35for some time
50:35and will be out
50:36for the foreseeable future.
50:38I still think
50:39the Dodgers win the West.
50:40I still think
50:41the Dodgers win
50:41the World Series.
50:43Obviously,
50:43this is something
50:44to monitor.
50:45Yankees might have
50:46had their best win
50:47of the year last night,
50:48winning a wild game
50:49against the Toronto Blue Jays.
50:51Jazz hands, baby.
50:52That was a wild home run
50:54for Jazz Chisholm last night.
50:55I mean,
50:56he basically just checked
50:57his swing
50:57and hit the left field foul,
50:58Paul.
50:59Bellinger hit a home run
51:00as well.
51:01Thin air last night,
51:02hot human night.
51:03That was incredible.
51:05Bednar.
51:07What was that?
51:08By the way,
51:09George Springer,
51:10thank you for swinging
51:10at that 3-0 pitch
51:12last night.
51:13On the heels
51:14of the worst loss
51:15of the season,
51:16Bednar the hang-em
51:16and bang-em to Taylor
51:17and the Mets,
51:18that was insane
51:20what transpired.
51:22I mean,
51:22absolutely.
51:23But Bednar,
51:24I like him
51:24and stand by him
51:25because of his guts
51:26and his guile
51:27and his toughness.
51:28If you don't like him
51:29and he puts too many
51:30ducks on the pond,
51:31that was an example
51:32because he doesn't have
51:33strikeout stuff,
51:34doesn't have swing
51:34and miss stuff.
51:36Yankees,
51:36with their win
51:37of the year.
51:38Now,
51:38I'm not ready to say
51:39the Yankees are back
51:40in any way,
51:40shape or form.
51:41A lot of it was
51:42because the Blue Jays
51:43had no idea
51:44what the hell
51:44they were doing.
51:45Hey,
51:45Mets,
51:4610 runs in the 12th
51:48to beat the Nats,
51:4916-7.
51:50That's under the umbrella
51:51of something you
51:52haven't seen before,
51:53probably not going to
51:54see again.
51:55Mets haven't had
51:56too many feel-good
51:56wins this year.
51:58Quietly,
52:00Mets are playing
52:00really good ball.
52:01I don't want to hear
52:02it's just Washington.
52:03We've been killing the Mets
52:03all season long
52:04when they lose
52:05to inferior teams.
52:06Mets,
52:07you know,
52:07what they did
52:07in Colorado.
52:08Then you take a look
52:09at what they did
52:10against Detroit,
52:11sweeping away the Tigers,
52:13take two out of three
52:13from the Yankees,
52:14handle business,
52:16explode in extras
52:17against Washington.
52:18That's a terrific job
52:19here by the New York Mets.
52:21How about the Phillies?
52:22They're absolutely on fire.
52:23Comeback win last night,
52:25able to beat
52:25the Cincinnati Reds.
52:27I thought that was awesome.
52:28The big headline here,
52:3016-4 under Don Mattingly.
52:33Listen, I love Donny baseball.
52:36I told you,
52:37don't give up
52:38on the Philadelphia Phillies.
52:39You know,
52:40you see the Phillies,
52:41the way they win
52:42every single night.
52:43It's a different way,
52:44different style of fight.
52:45This team is tough.
52:46This team is clutch.
52:47And now,
52:48brilliantly managed
52:49with our guy,
52:50Don Mattingly.
52:51What a show today.
52:52If you missed
52:53any portion of the show,
52:54just do what I do.
52:55Rewatch the show
52:56over and over
52:57and over again.
