00:00Rail timetables often change quietly but this one could affect thousands of West Midlands
00:06journeys.
00:07Avanti West Coast is reducing weekday trains on its busiest intercity routes for six weeks
00:14including services from Birmingham New Street and London Euston during the summer.
00:20Around 38 daily weekday services are being removed from the timetable between the 20th
00:25of July and the 28th of August.
00:28Avanti usually runs 248 services a day on the affected routes to Birmingham, Liverpool
00:35and Manchester each weekday.
00:37The operator says it's proposed taking out lower demand trains after the Department for
00:43Transport asked it to reduce costs.
00:46The government says the temporary changes will save taxpayers money while still meeting passenger
00:52demand for available seats on those routes over summer.
00:55Avanti says the changes will only affect routes where it runs more than one train an hour
01:01during typically quieter parts of the day.
01:04It says that it should leave passengers with alternative journey options and cause minimum
01:09disruption overall for most travellers.
01:12Passengers planning journeys during the six week period are being urged to check before
01:17they travel.
01:18Avanti says affected services have been removed from ticketing systems before sale and the
01:23operator says the reductions are not linked to a lack of resources nationally.
01:27In the meantime we have to check before.
