00:00U.S. President Donald Trump says he called off a major U.S. attack on Iran planned for Tuesday after
00:05Washington's Gulf allies requested more time be given for diplomacy.
00:10Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said he would do the impossible in order to stop the war with Israel as strikes
00:17continued despite a ceasefire.
00:21With a recent Ebola outbreak, the U.S. has announced it will begin screening air travelers arriving from affected regions.
00:30U.S. President Donald Trump said he decided to hold off on a major U.S. attack on Iran planned
00:36for Tuesday after Washington's allies in the Gulf requested more time be given for diplomatic efforts.
00:43The announcement of a planned renewal to the hostilities comes after weeks of stalled progress in ongoing negotiations between the
00:51United States and Iran.
00:53They also follow numerous threats by Trump to hit Tehran once more if it failed to enter into a nuclear
00:59deal with Washington soon.
01:01We were getting ready to do a very major attack tomorrow.
01:04I put it off for a little while, hopefully maybe forever, but possibly for a little while because we've had
01:11very big discussions with Iran and we'll see what they amount to.
01:16I was asked by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE and some others if we could put it off for two or
01:23three days, a short period of time because they think that they are getting very close to making a deal.
01:28The two warring sides have traded several counters to a proposal to end the war mediated by Pakistan, but according
01:35to negotiators big differences are persisting and seem unlikely to break a stubborn impasse.
01:41The White House is seeking Iran's commitment to a complete abolishment of its nuclear ambitions, while Iran wants to maintain
01:48some of its nuclear infrastructure for what it says will be projects for civilian use.
01:55Trump has routinely warned that the war will not come to an end until Iran unconditionally agrees to never acquiring
02:01nuclear weapons and has expressed his country's readiness to fight for as long as it takes to achieve that.
02:12Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said on Monday he would do the impossible in order to stop the war with Israel,
02:18as strikes continue to batter the country despite a ceasefire.
02:23Aoun's comments came as the Israeli army carried out a series of strikes in southern Lebanon, while the Iran-backed
02:30armed group Hezbollah said it had struck a military target in northern Israel.
02:36Lebanon's health ministry said late on Sunday that seven people had been killed in Israeli strikes that day, including two
02:42children.
02:44While a ceasefire was announced on April 17th and was extended for 45 days last week following U.S.-led talks,
02:51it has failed to stop the violence between Israel and Hezbollah, which have continued to launch strikes as they accuse
02:57each other of violating the agreement.
03:01Israel has also continued carrying out demolitions and issuing evacuation orders in the so-called Yellow Line, a swathe of
03:08southern Lebanon that Israeli forces have invaded and occupied, although officials have claimed Israel has no territorial ambitions there.
03:17On Monday, the Lebanese health ministry said the death toll from Israeli strikes since the start of the war had
03:23reached 3,020, with 211 people, 18 and under, and 116 health care workers among those killed.
03:36With a recent Ebola outbreak now declared a global health emergency, the U.S. has announced it will begin screening
03:43air travelers arriving from three African countries.
03:47Passengers will now be checked at airports before entering the country, and non-U.S. passport holders who travel to
03:53Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, or South Sudan in the past 21 days will face entry restrictions.
04:01The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it is monitoring the situation, but considers the risk of
04:07the virus to the U.S. general public as low.
04:11The decision comes after one American citizen tested positive for the virus in the DRC following exposure related to their
04:18work.
04:19The individual is being transferred to Germany for treatment.
04:23Meanwhile, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control said it was deploying experts to Africa's CDC in Ethiopia to
04:31help support the Ebola outbreak response.
04:34At least 100 deaths have been reported with around 400 suspected cases as of Monday.
04:46Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Melloni has called on the European Commission to relax its fiscal rules for households and industries
04:54struggling with rising energy costs.
04:57In a letter sent to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Melloni said the bloc should treat energy security with
05:03the same level of urgency and importance as defense spending.
05:08Melloni argued security should not be measured just in military terms, but also by whether factories can continue operating, families
05:16can afford energy bills, and governments can maintain economic stability.
05:21Her call comes amid growing concerns that escalating tensions in the Middle East could trigger another energy crisis.
05:28Melloni argues that Brussels previously loosened its budget rules in response to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, as well
05:35as growing concerns over Europe's military preparedness.
05:39Italy is now seeking similar flexibility for emergency energy measures.
05:48Around 10 new suspected victims have come forward as part of a French probe into the network of late U
05:55.S. sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
05:58France opened a human trafficking investigation after the U.S. Justice Department released the latest batch of the Epstein files
06:05in January.
06:06French magistrates are looking to investigate possible offenses committed in France or involving French perpetrators who facilitated his crimes.
06:16The Paris prosecutor said in total around 20 suspected victims made themselves known, including about 10 who were already known
06:24to investigators.
06:30Andrei Yermak, the former chief of staff of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has been released on a 2.7 million
06:37euro bail after spending four days in custody as part of a major anti-corruption investigation.
06:43The bail was reportedly paid by multiple sources after Andrei Yermak said on the 13th of May that he could
06:49not afford to pay it himself and would rely on France for help.
06:53According to Ukraine's anti-corruption investigators, Yermak is a suspect in a large money laundering probe tied to the construction
07:00of a luxury residence complex outside Kyiv.
07:04They're investigating a scheme where up to 9 million euros was laundered between 2021 and 2025 through the construction of
07:12the high-end residence complex.
07:13If convicted, Yermak could face up to 12 years in jail.
07:18Yermak and his lawyer denied wrongdoing, calling the charges unfounded.
07:22Yermak also vowed to appeal the court's ruling.
07:25Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau said last week that Zelenskyy has no connection to the corruption investigation.
07:36Analysts are saying that Sunday's parliamentary elections in Cyprus could mark a historic shift in the political landscape as new
07:44political movements gain momentum.
07:46The two main parties, the Democratic Rally Party and the Communist Progressive Party of Working People, appear weaker in the
07:54polls than in previous years.
07:55It's very possible to address the traditional political parties in Cyprus.
08:03It seems that it is very possible to exist in what it refers to, first, to the exit of the
08:12parties that are either anti-systemical or exo-systemical.
08:29According to analysts, these elections also serve as a preview for the 2028 presidential elections.
08:38It is certain that the new government will be interested in a lot of the previous parties.
08:44For the rhythmic role of what we call a national party, there are at least three parties.
08:51The law, the ELAM, which is the right or the right in Cyprus, and a new party of the former
09:01general選手, the ALMA.
09:03With 19 parties and a total of 753 candidates seeking a seat in Parliament,
09:09Chief Elections Officer Elie Kwaselia said they had received a record number of candidacies and party lists submitted.
09:21Iran used its appearance at the World Urban Forum in Baku this week to call for international support for post
09:27-war reconstruction.
09:30The country's deputy housing minister claims 150,000 homes were damaged since the start of the war,
09:36which begun following joint U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.
09:40Euronews could not independently verify the overall scale of the damage due to multiple and contradictory figures.
09:47Kazemian also outlined Iran's broader urban pressures, which predate the war.
10:18Kazemian said cities face challenges links to water resources,
10:21climate change, and land subsidence.
10:24Iran is also highly vulnerable to earthquakes,
10:27which only adds to the housing crisis and makes rebuilding even more difficult.
10:35A Spanish court has ordered the tax authority to refund Colombian pop star Shakira more than 55 million euros,
10:44which it ruled were improperly collected in a dispute over her taxes from 2011.
10:50The ruling concluded that tax authorities had failed to prove that the artist resided in Spain for more than 183
10:58days,
10:59the required amount to be considered a tax resident in the country.
11:03She had in fact spent 163 days in the country, the ruling found.
11:08The Hips Don't Lie singer is now set to receive more than 55 million euros in the amount she had
11:14initially paid plus legal interest.
11:17Tax authorities had also argued she lived in Spain long enough to be liable for taxes between 2012 and 2014,
11:25but she reached a separate settlement for that case with prosecutors back in 2023, avoiding a broader fraud case.
11:33Following the verdict, she denounced being treated as guilty for years,
11:37enduring brutal public shame in and orchestrated campaigns to destroy her reputation.
