00:31So excited you're here. Watch that step. Okay. This move is a really big risk because I am definitely the

00:37kind of person that throws myself into things and deals with the consequences. And now I'm moving to a new

00:42country, and I'm buying my first house.

00:45My family thinks I am insane. Absolutely insane. But the fact that Savannah has been here for years, she already

00:55went through this entire process. I think it's just going to help me navigate.

00:59through some of the things that she had to figure out a little bit easier. I'm really, really excited to

01:04be here permanently.

01:05Yeah, me too. It's going to be so nice. I think it's super respectable to be able to want something

01:10and go after it. Being able to purchase and own a property here, especially for someone our age.

01:22I am kind of in a rush to find a house. I've pretty much sold everything that I've had in

01:26the States.

01:27I'm staying with Savannah, and I do have a dog that I want to bring down here.

01:30Who's watching Milo while you're here? He's with my mom. Right now I'm doing sales for a marketing company.

01:36It is a fully online job, and it does just allow for a little bit more of a flexible schedule,

01:40which is another reason why I'm very excited to come here.

01:42You think you want to learn to surf, or what?

01:44I feel like if you live in Costa Rica, you have to learn how to surf. It just, it takes

01:47a lot of hard work and a lot of savings to make a jump like this, and thankfully I'm in

01:50a position where I can do this well.

01:57It's time. So I actually met Beth on one of my vacations. We just were in like mutual friend group,

02:04found out she was a realtor, and just kind of opened that conversation there.

02:06Are you nervous? Definitely a little bit nervous, but I'm ready. Where are you thinking you want to land?

02:10You know, somewhere I can kind of get this vibe every day. Not like off grid. We need a full

02:15internet.

02:15In the mix, but not like mixed up. I think Jaco's a bit of an uncut gem. It's not this

02:21bougie, fancy place. You can still be down to earth, but there's also this special small town while you still

02:28get this raw, real culture of Costa Rica.

02:30I know a lot of towns have kind of lost that, but we still hold that near and dear here.

02:34This is beautiful. Isn't it? Is this in my budget? We can talk about that.

02:38The market here in Jaco is somewhat of a tourist seasonal market, so it does manipulate the market a little

02:44bit. However, I would say it's very affordable.

02:46So give me the real deal on what you're looking for.

02:49I'm looking for a house that's going to be like nature-y vibes, but also close to the city.

02:54Definitely like two bedrooms, two bathrooms, very important, two bathrooms.

02:58Okay.

02:59Want to make sure there's room for guests when they come, and like I would love to pool.

03:03High rise? Home? Is there a preference?

03:06I think you want a home. Like you want the outdoor space.

03:09Yeah, definitely. And a yard. I'd love to bring my dog down here.

03:12I know you want like the nature vibe, but you also want like something like more modern,

03:15that like American like house style.

03:18Yeah, but maybe like I can do some renovations on and kind of make it my own.

03:22Don't listen to her. She needs it like packaged, ready to go. Like she's ambitious.

03:26I'll meet you halfway. Maybe not like a full reno, but little things, maybe paints or things like that.

03:35Okay, what are we doing price-wise? I'm hoping to stay like $300,000 or under.

03:45Hmm. Taylor's budget is doable. However, to be able to find something that checks the long list

03:50of things she wants, I'm going to have to give her a little bit of everything and see what she

03:54gravitates towards. We have faith in you.

04:09So I'm going to drive you by this pretty cool house just so you can see what's in the neighborhood.

04:13Our entry property levels here start around the 200,000s and they can go up to about the 3 million

04:19mark.

04:24This is absolutely insane. Is this in the budget?

04:27They actually purchased this a couple years ago for $7.50 and now it's on the market for $1.50.

04:33So it just goes to show you what your investment can do.

05:05Alapaco. Super easy, walkable downtown and then an easy bike to the beach.

05:09Such a cute little, like, vibe that's in here. And I like that it's walkable to everything, too.

05:14Okay, so this is going to be a two-bedroom, two-bath and it's all modern.

05:36I mean, I definitely am going to need to put a gate in for the dog, but I think it's

05:39awesome.

05:40But this looks super new in here. I don't know how much you'd have to really work on.

05:50You know, I'm not really a big cook, but it's still nice to have a space to eat together, take

05:58And this comes fully furnished. So, like, the couch is behind you here in the living room.

06:07Yeah, it is a very small space, and there's not really room for, like, a dining table or

06:11anything like that. But I love the vaulted ceilings. It feels very, like, open.

06:20A lot of natural light. Super small, though. It does feel very tight in here.

06:25I'm kind of the girl that is led a little bit both by my head and my heart.

06:29I definitely get my, like, adventurous spirit from following my heart and just jumping into

06:34things that I think I would love. But I also have to think with my head in regards to choosing

06:38a house that's going to be a good investment, something I'm going to love for a long time,

06:42and just something that I'm not going to lose a lot of money on.

06:50It does look very new, though. I like the bathroom more than the bedroom.

07:51Yeah, the king bed wouldn't fit in there.

07:53No. I like to sleep like a starfish, so it is super central, but I don't know if it's

07:57going to be a little too central. Like, parts of the year, we have really big festivals here.

08:01It's super loud in the city, but I think that you might enjoy being a little bit more surrounded

08:06by nature. Yeah, like, more in the mountains, kind of that vibe.

08:09I think this might be a little bit of a reality check for Taylor. You know, we're inching up on

08:12budget there with quite a few negatives on her long list of items that she did give me.

08:27You're going to love this space.

08:29Yeah. Being in the rain forest and it's raining.

08:34We are really just yin and yang. Like, I am very go, go, go. But the reason I'm moving here

08:39is because I want that more, like, tranquilo lifestyle. And immediately, I make friends with the yoga teacher.

09:00It works really great because she balances me.

09:04I like the chill that she brings to the table. She probably likes the

09:08crazy that I bring to the table. Reach your hands up, inhale.

09:11That's super important here when you're away from your family. To have someone here that you know

09:16cares about you and you know just a phone call away no matter where you decide to move.

09:30All right, so let's get to our next house. This is absolutely beautiful.

09:34This property is located in Quebrada Bonita. It's a little bit more countryside, more mountainous.

09:39I think what's perfect about here is you're just on the outskirts where you're still considered

09:43hako. You're five minutes from town and bike ride-wise about 15 minutes to the beach.

09:47Welcome to my side of town. You can still get things delivered from town if you need to.

09:52Looks like they're doing a lot of construction around here too.

09:54This is a upcoming area. This should all be paved within the next year or so.

09:59Okay. So many mountains.

10:00So that'll make it nice. This is going to be a two bedroom, two bath. It's fully gated.

10:05It's not in a community, but it's pretty secure and it's super modern inside.

10:08Okay. Well, I already love the trees and the flowers.

10:13And I love the gardens. Outside has a nice curb appeal too.

10:21I'm really loving it. I mean, before I get excited, how much are they asking?

10:25$250 and they are really motivated, so we can work something out here for sure.

10:53And the entertaining, like I can be in the kitchen not cooking, but people can be sitting here,

10:58they can be sitting here, they can be there with the door open, and we can all easily be communicating.

11:02So I love that. I think this property would help with the grounding aspect that she's really trying

11:07to invite into her life, being able to be surrounded by nature. More importantly, being able to be

11:11very close to me. Ooh, I like this. Okay, awesome. I love those shelves. It's like a good sized bathroom

11:17for when people come to visit. All right, well, I think you'll like this one a little bit better.

11:29I love this. Yeah, we don't get a lot of walk-in closets here, so I think there's a little

11:33balance. It's not as big as you would expect like a main bedroom's bathroom to be. All right,

11:44I love how big it is and how much space there is. I mean, it doesn't feel so like cramped

11:49and even just like the window, it's so open, so much good light.

11:52Wow, I love this outdoor space. I wish it had a pool. I mean, there's space for one, so yeah.

12:11Yeah, you're 100% gonna need a car, which is totally doable. You could also get a golf cart too.

12:17This location could be a little bit too far from the town, especially because I'm coming here like

12:21without reliable transportation. And then on top of it, there is some things that I would need to

12:26really just do to make it my own. And I have to think, do I want to put that into

12:30something and

12:30do that work or just buy something turnkey? But when somebody says something is up and coming,

12:35it shows me there's a lot of opportunity. All right, let's keep it going.

12:40Wow, look at how cute this is down here. City definitely comes alive. This is like the Vegas of Costa

12:53Rica.

12:56This town is very small. The entire town is walkable. And that's really what makes it fun,

13:00is you kind of just like go with the night. Let's go have a drink. Maybe we can make some

13:03friends.

13:04And I've been here a few times now, so I'm starting to kind of understand like the dating scene.

13:09This place is cool. Okay, what is good here? I really like this lavender drink. Can we order

13:13the lavender drink? Your first date is never going to be boring. You can go and do fun things like

13:18learn to surf or go on a hike. Que rico. Wow, gracias. I will say that it helps to be

13:24a bilingual baddie.

13:25Yeah, I mean, Spanish is the most romantic language.

13:31What I have found is like I have a lot of fun with people here. You like the surf too?

13:36Yeah, I can hit some waves. It's just always like, it's fun, it's sexy,

13:40yeah, suave, dancing.

13:44There's a lot of people that just want to come and enjoy life. And I think that that makes for

13:52a

13:52lot more happy unions and a lot more sexy experiences.

14:03So we're on our way to Hermosa right now. As we come through, you'll see a bunch of cute little

14:07shops on the highway. Today, I'm going to show Taylor a property that's the best of both worlds.

14:13It's outside of town and it's a brand new build that's ultra ready to go. I'm loving this drive.

14:18However, she might have to stretch her budget with a little wiggle room. In terms of Haco,

14:23we're about a five minute drive to town and the beach is about a three minute drive from here.

14:28There's lots of great dining on the beach here and it's beautiful to watch the surfers. Super cute.

14:33You definitely get more of a taste of Costa Rica in this community. Yeah.

14:37We're going to roll up on this house. Brand new build, ultra modern, gated community with HOA.

14:42This is two bedroom, two and a half bath. It does have a private pool and this is called Tropical

14:48Modern.

14:53Wow. Wow, wow, wow. How much is this going to be? Okay, don't kill me. It's 3.30.

15:02Girl. I know, but just let's go inside. I think you'll understand once we get in there. Today's property is

15:07$30,000 over budget, but everything here is typically negotiable and it checks every box on her list.

15:14Oh, my God. Oh, baby. Look at this. What?

15:19Was I right? I don't know. Suddenly we can work with that budget. Okay. Wow.

15:24This is stunning. This is like exactly what you think of when you think of coming to

15:29a tropical country like this. I love the style. I love that you can sit here and cook and still

15:35communicate with people who are in the living room. Or on TV. I do like the furniture that's

15:39here now. I might make some changes. I don't feel like we'd have to get a lot of things. It's

15:43kind of

15:43ready to go already. So that's something with the budget that might help. Yeah. It does come fully

15:48furnished, so you just bring your toothbrush and you're good. You don't have to spend a penny on

15:52anything else. Well, why don't you show me where I'm going to be brushing my teeth? Yeah, that's right.

15:56Let's go take a look at your bedroom. I think everything in here is amazing. Very, very tall doors. Okay.

16:01I like the space in this room. Oh, this tile. Wow. This is gorgeous. It's weird that it's not a

16:09double sink, but I think it could be nice for like makeup on one side and like brushing teeth and

16:14stuff on the other side. I absolutely love this property. I feel like it really matches my vibe,

16:18and it's something I can easily just jump into and day one be able to live in that kind of

16:22environment.

16:24I'm obsessed. Look at all this space for Milo, the pool. Oh my god, Milo's going to love the pool.

16:30So perfect. To be honest about this house, this is exactly what I thought of when I thought of living

16:35in Costa Rica. She might need a second or third job for it, but you know. 30,000, it's not

16:41that much

16:41more. The next week we'll put Savannah's house on the market. Oh, okay. And then I think you guys will

16:45have a little extra change for this one. That is too funny. As much as I love her, our friendship

16:50needs

16:50space. It just would be so amazing to live here and just be able to open the windows, get that

16:56breeze,

16:57be close to the beach. Yeah, I hate to be your buzzkill here, but I just don't see how that's

17:03going to be

17:03possible with the budget that you have. Let's go get a drink. Well, we got to save you money on

17:08drinks, girl. So you're buying. All right, if you buy this house. You might be able to sell us on

17:32Hey. I do have a really big decision to make. Have you thought about it much further?

17:36All three houses are beautiful. A tropical modern house. I bet. You love it. I love that house,

17:43but if I have to work more to try and make that work financially, I don't think I can do

17:48it. The

17:49Lapa living house was beautiful. I mean, could easily walk home after a fun night out. The only

17:54things that really kind of were how small the rooms were. Don't roll your eyes at me. I did like

18:00the

18:00house. I mean, you're in Costa Rica. You're not going to be in your room all the time. Yeah,

18:04like the nature villa was so cute. Obviously, I missed the pool. I think something that can

18:09really help influence my decision is just understanding, like, the actual investment

18:12side of it, because at the end of the day, like, I want to make sure I'm making the smart

18:16business move.

18:17You're going to have to do some work to the nature villa. If you'd rather get a cheaper house,

18:21put some work into it, see what happens in the future. That's kind of the long haul game. Or,

18:25lots of living. You know what you're buying today. You don't have to do anything. You move right in.

18:29You're good to go. I just want her to make a decision that is the smartest with your money

18:33and how you want to live your life. So, it's like, do I move here for town, party, fun, walk

18:37home from

18:37the bar, or move into nature where it's going to be a great investment property in general? I think

18:41you're like 50% party, 50% nature. So, I need two more of these. Bartender.

18:51I ended up choosing the nature villa.

18:56Buying my first home was such a big step in my life. And Savannah was the best person for me

19:03bring on this journey. Taylor living so close. We can go catch a quick sunset. We can grab a matcha.

19:15for in this house. But considering this is my first home, I got a killer deal. I ended up getting

19:21the house for $200,000. $50,000 less than the selling price. It does allow me to make some updates.

19:26Maybe even add a pool here soon. Milo, you guys stay by me, little buddy. Milo is absolutely loving it

19:33here. I mean, this is his best life. When I was visiting, that Pura Vida lifestyle is exactly what

19:39I was coming for. And I definitely think I found what I was chasing. Since moving here, I have learned

19:45so much about myself. This slow lifestyle has just made me realize just like how to really appreciate

19:51the day-to-day. Love the little things, be a part of nature, and I get to do it every

19:56day now.
