How Indeed.com Revolutionized Job Searching Since 2004
Transcript
00:00Indeed, Calm is one of the most popular job search engines in the world.
00:04It allows job seekers to post their resume for free and apply for jobs.
00:08So today we'll tell you the story of Indeed.
00:11Calm, let's get started.
00:12In 2004, Paul Forster was working as chief executive of a software development company called Scout.
00:18Scout was a career advice website that was providing career advice, resume samples, and cover letter samples.
00:25One day, Paul and his colleagues noticed a spike in traffic on the site.
00:29They were getting thousands of visitors looking for the same thing, sample resumes.
00:34So Paul and his team decided to conduct some research to find out why this was happening.
00:39After talking to hundreds of people, they found that most of them were looking for a job and needed a
00:44resume but didn't know how to write one.
00:46That's when Paul had an idea.
00:48What if he built a site where people could not only find resume samples but also post their own resumes
00:53and apply for jobs?
00:55He shared this idea with his colleague and friend, Chris Heimer, who loved it.
01:00So together they set out to build a site where people could post their resumes and apply for jobs.
01:05But it wasn't easy.
01:06You see, back in 2004, there were already many job search engines like Monster and CareerBuilder.
01:12So how could Indeed?
01:14Calm stand out from the competition.
01:16Well, Paul and his team thought that Indeed.
01:19Calm could be more than just a job search engine.
01:21They wanted it to be the ultimate career destination.
01:23That's why they decided to offer more services than other job search engines, such as resume writing tips, cover letter
01:31writing tips, interview tips, salary information, and company reviews.
01:35After spending several months developing the site, Indeed, Calm officially launched in May 2004.
01:42Initially, the site only had about 500 jobs listed, but within a few weeks, they had over 10,000 jobs.
01:48Anyway, they changed their noises like that for most people, though.
