00:00The Point Lonsdale studio was a self-contained beach house annexed to the
00:05existing building. This is a new addition that can be used for visiting family and
00:10friends to come and stay and live independently of the main house.
00:19Point Lonsdale studio has its upper level of 60 square meters of living space with a
00:25self-contained main bedroom with an ensuite and a multiple-use sitting room.
00:30Adjoins a nice common north-facing deck that's connected to the existing house and then
00:36downstairs there's a garage for parking. Interiors we used the same black cladding as
00:42we did on the exterior for consistency but also it created a really lovely mood in the interior space
00:49enlivened by a natural light. Part of the design behind small spaces is being creative with how
00:57you hide things. In this space for instance all the cabinetry is made of the same material as the
01:02walls. Drawers and a wardrobe that's all concealed. Big sliding doors that section it off as walls so
01:09that every evening you can close the sliding doors. We did a similar thing with the lighting in that we
01:15used cedar to conceal a strip light that gives a lovely wash on the brick walls. An important design
01:24feature of this space is its passive heating and cooling. This studio has a very tall hallway ceiling
01:32it pops up to four and a half meters and that's been designed to allow winter sun to come from
01:38the
01:38north and bring it in to heat up this brick wall. On the coast we get a lot of coastal
01:44breezes that
01:45come through so we had cross-flow ventilation from the front sliding door off the deck running
01:51through the space. The high level windows facing north act as a thermal chimney and naturally exhaust
01:57the hot air that can gather at the higher ceiling.
02:15The high level of the inside of the ceiling is big. Now let's see what's going on in-game.
02:22The high level opens up to theher of the air that is架ل in the air that is
