00:02This apartment is located in Rushcutters Bay, which is a suburb in walking distance of the city as well as
00:08Sydney Harbour.
00:10This apartment building was built in the 1960s and there's about 40 studio apartments in the block.
00:23This apartment is 24 square metres.
00:31When we first got the apartment, it was completely different to what it currently is.
00:35When you walked in the original apartment, you entered through a corridor which contained the kitchen and the living space
00:41was combined with the bedroom.
00:43We completely demolished everything within the existing apartment.
00:49We decided it was really important to have a strong divide between what's sleeping and what's living.
00:56So we contained the amenities of the apartment and the sleeping space to the smallest possible area so the living
01:02area could be as big as possible.
01:08So the design idea was to have a sliding screen that could determine the function of the apartment at any
01:15one time.
01:17During the day, the timber screen creates a visual separation from the bedroom to the living area while still allowing
01:24light to pass through when the bedroom space is closed.
01:30At night, it can slide over the kitchen, opens up a sleeping space.
01:38There's a little open shelf which acts as a bedside table and includes integrated lighting.
01:47The bed's raised up and includes drawers underneath it for extra storage.
01:53One thing unique about the apartment is the full width windows and we wanted to make that obvious from the
02:00moment you walk in.
02:01We angled the joinery unit next to the bed so that you can pick up light and a sense of
02:07space.
02:08The material palette was kept to a minimum.
02:11The black-butt timber screen is the same as the black-butt timber floor that it added a softness to
02:15the apartment.
02:17The bathroom and walk-in robe are accessed via a hidden door.
02:27Combining the bathroom and your walk-in robe makes the whole space feel much bigger.
02:35The grey tiles in the bathroom complement the timber floor, gives the whole apartment a really earthy feel.
02:45Combined with concealed lighting, create a luxurious feel as well.
02:51As soon as you walk through that door, there's a full-length mirror beyond.
02:55Gives you a sense of a larger space.
02:59The kitchen was really carefully considered.
03:01It includes a fridge, an oven, a dish drawer, and a narrow cutlery drawer.
03:15The kitchen also integrates a little appliance cupboard.
03:20Incorporate a full-height pantry stack.
03:25With the minimal material pallet, our bench top and splash back are also a grey concrete.
03:34Cities like Sydney have some amazing old housing stock that's been solidly built and isn't going anywhere.
03:45And repurposing that amazing housing stock to bring it up to the way we want to live our life now.
03:51Or, you know, just given a refresh is one of the most sustainable ways we can continue to grow our
03:59cities.
03:59So, thank you very much.
04:00The place to bless your life.
04:01The least few days.
04:03You.
04:04But, I'm going to play the club with my friend.
04:05You.
04:07The kind of type of office.
