00:02Family members of a man in his 50s raised concerns about his mental health to police this week,
00:07prompting staff from the acute care team and police to go to his new townhouse yesterday morning.
00:13After talking to the man at his doorway, they detained him and brought him to the Royal Hobart Hospital for
00:18mental health treatment.
00:20And it wasn't until later that day that another person attended the address to visit and then found the body
00:25of the deceased woman on the floor.
00:27The body was lying in the hallway and police say the woman had been dead for a number of weeks.
00:33At this stage, we are treating the woman's death as suspicious.
00:37However, we are keeping an open mind as to the possibility that the woman's death may be the result of
00:43natural causes.
00:44The woman has not yet been formally identified, but police believe she was 61 years old and lived at the
00:49house.
00:50An autopsy will be done tomorrow.
00:52Police have not confirmed the relationship between the woman and the man.
00:56Following the discovery of the woman's body that afternoon, he was arrested and he's actually been remanded in custody pending
01:03further investigations.
01:05At this stage, he has not been charged with any offence.
01:08Police say both the man and woman were known to them, dating back 16 years in relation to neighbourhood disputes.
01:14When asked if any weapon was found, police said no, but described the house as cluttered and chaotic.
01:20The investigation is continuing and anyone with information is urged to contact police.
