00:02The walls of Benython Hall have witnessed University of Adelaide graduations for nearly a century.
00:09But that part of history is now over, with graduations for the newly merged Adelaide University
00:15now taking place at Pridham Hall, part of the former UniSA.
00:20The point of the ceremony is that connection to the historic past and the legacy of the University
00:25and being part of that alumni community of nearly 100 years of previous students before you.
00:32Students have started a petition urging the University to allow legacy students to graduate at Benython Hall
00:38and to reinstate the tradition for future graduations.
00:42Because it's something we walk past every day, we look forward to being in that space,
00:47being in a building that signifies the heritage and the history of our University.
00:50By putting this forth to the University, it gives them an opportunity to reprioritise
00:55and put students first for something.
00:56Adelaide University says Pridham Hall is a bigger venue that can host more guests.
01:01Before we had a situation, and we would have had that again,
01:05where lots of families and friends had to be in overflow lecture theatres
01:08and watching the proceedings on video.
01:10But with Pridham Hall we can do better than that now for our students.
01:14Adelaide University says it's considering how buildings across its entire campus,
01:19including Benython Hall, can be used as part of future graduation ceremonies.
01:22There are all sorts of options, so I won't speculate just at the moment,
01:26but we will also be engaging with our students about what they would want to see.
01:29Looking to the future with history in mind.
