Another episode from Series 1 of Love Hurts, starring Zoe Wanamaker and Adam Faith. In this episode (Ep 4), Tessa is wary of commiting to a relationship with Frank, and finds herself so absorbed with work she forgets a dinner date with Frank - much to his annoyance! She also forgets that her mother (Hilary Mason) is due to visit, but a sudden tragedy then throws her completely. Also in the cast is Jane Lapotaire as Tessa's boss, Tony Selby as Frank's mate and Robin Weaver as Frank's daughter, while Victoria Shalet has a small role as Tessa's work colleague Chris Hamilton's daughter.

01:01Don't touch.
01:02Sorry.
01:03We're going to the dentist later.
01:05Bad luck.
01:08Morning.
01:10Oh, Tessa.
01:15Tessa.
01:16I'm worried about the amount of time that is being spent on the fun run.
01:20Everyone seems to be involved in it.
01:22Diane spends every minute that she's here stuffing envelopes.
01:25Fear not.
01:26It's a good fundraiser and it's visible.
01:28It'll justify the effort.
01:30You think so?
01:31Trust me.
01:34Can I say that I was impressed by the way you handled that idiot, Tremaine, during the radio debate?
01:48Your phone calls are in your signing blocker.
01:50You've got to ring Carlson and Brodie.
01:52Oh, sorry.
01:53And there's a meeting about the account later in the day.
01:55You're going to them.
01:56Lunch.
01:57No lunch.
01:58Diane's coming in and wants to talk to you.
02:00Lynn Brewer is arriving on Wednesday.
02:01You'll find an abstract of her recent reports on your desk.
02:05Lynn Brewer.
02:06Project manager in...
02:07Niger.
02:08Soil and water conservation.
02:11Uh, that's about it.
02:15Tessa Piggott.
02:17What does delete mean?
02:19No, Mum.
02:20I haven't forgotten.
02:22I can't pick you up, but you've got keys.
02:26I'll take you for lunch, but I'll have to put in a morning's work first.
02:28Are you looking forward to it?
02:31Yes, I am, Mum.
02:32Very.
02:35No, of course I'm looking forward to it, but...
02:38Yes.
02:39Good.
02:40Okay.
02:41Is that all right?
02:42Okay.
02:43Good.
02:43Bye.
02:47I also have a mother.
02:49Why do they have to behave like...
02:51Like mothers?
02:51Yes.
02:52I don't know.
02:53You ought to.
02:53You're a mother.
02:54Oh, well, that's different.
02:56How?
02:59Well, when my mother treats me like a daughter, she's being the mother.
03:02I can't be the mother, too.
03:03And if I'm being a daughter, then I forget about being a mother.
03:06And if I'm being a mother, I forget about being a daughter.
03:09Of course.
03:10Is she coming to stay?
03:12For a couple of days.
03:13There's an art and antiques fair.
03:14She never misses it.
03:15Oh, I've come for the fun run file.
03:18I've put myself in charge of sponsorship forms, printing and mailing.
03:21I've got an hour for stuffing envelopes.
03:26Then I'm a divorce counsellor.
03:28Then I'm a hospital visitor, okay?
03:30Sure.
03:38Have you spoken to Bob recently?
03:41Why?
03:42I think it might have almost been pleasant to me a moment ago.
03:45Oh, well, we all have our off days.
03:48Oh, well, we all have our off days.
03:57Going out?
03:58Yep.
03:59Tessa?
04:00Of course.
04:02Hope you're taking us somewhere nice.
04:11No, he's out tonight.
04:13Do you want to come round?
04:15In about half an hour?
04:17Okay, bye.
04:29Sorry.
04:30Am I late?
04:31Oh, a couple of hours.
04:33Nothing at all.
04:38I used to come here quite a lot.
04:41In your days as a high roller?
04:43That's right.
04:47I bought a safari park today.
04:48Did you?
04:49With a little help from my friends.
04:51Mind you, I had to sell a school and a factory that makes TV area.
04:54A normal day for you?
04:55Selling a school, buying a safari park?
04:58Well, it was today.
04:59Plus acquiring one leg of a racehorse.
05:01Good evening, Miss Pickard.
05:04Hello, Peter.
05:06Um, a raspberry sorbet, capaceo and radicchio salad, please.
05:11Salah?
05:13Yeah, I'll have that.
05:19Champagne, all right?
05:20Very good.
05:22Nice to see you.
05:26I was hoping you'd say it's nice to see me.
05:29Were you?
05:30Well, I'm not sure it is.
05:32You're like a recurring nightmare, Frank.
05:35Like stepping on a garden rake wherever I go.
05:38You even popped up in Africa, for God's sakes.
05:40Ah.
05:42Yeah, well, there's a particular reason for that.
05:44I wanted to see you.
05:46Because when I don't see you, I miss you.
05:50Do you?
05:52Yes, I do.
05:53Do you miss me?
05:55That, I mean, that is it.
05:57I mean, that is a ridiculous question.
05:59Is it?
05:59Yes.
06:00Do you?
06:02Once I had a plumbing problem, now I've got a plumber problem.
06:06A problem plumber.
06:22Oi, Nigel Manson!
06:24Are you looking for an excuse to visit someone in hospital or what?
06:27Just get your fat arse out of the way quicker, shouldn't you?
06:30Oi, you lot, I want those stacked neatly out there.
06:33Any damages comes out of your wages, right?
06:36This is all because your bit of posh doesn't want to know, innit?
06:40Why don't you just face it, mate?
06:42This is one nut you are not going to crack.
06:45What do you think about stop cocks, Max?
06:47What?
06:49There's a name for this place.
06:51A disco.
06:52You don't give up, do you?
06:54Look, she does want to know, because we had dinner last night.
06:59And?
07:00Well, so she can't work out what I'm after.
07:03Well, of course, because you don't know what you're after, either.
07:07Maybe.
07:10Well, I know, Max.
07:12But I'm not with her.
07:14I miss her.
07:14But why?
07:16I mean, she's not...
07:17She's not exactly, er...
07:19Look, Frank, I've seen you pull some birds.
07:21I mean...
07:22What are you saying?
07:23Oh, right, she's got a firm little body.
07:25Probably pushes a few weights now and again.
07:28But you're losing all sense of proportion.
07:30You could have killed me out there.
07:31Yeah, well, you're not out of danger now.
07:36Bet you're a monkey you don't pull her.
07:39Oh, leave off, Max.
07:41That's two weeks' take-home pay for you.
07:42Well, I ain't gonna lose, am I?
07:44Look, she's not a hot tip for the 230, you know.
07:47You've lost your bottle.
07:50I suppose it had to happen sometime.
07:52500 quid.
07:54Sure.
08:10Tessa?
08:15Tessa?
08:18Tessa?
08:36Hello, Tessa, bigot.
08:37Where are you?
08:39Oh, hell.
08:42I'm sorry, I forgot.
08:44You forgot?
08:45Oh, that's very nice, isn't it?
08:46I put clean underwear on, just in case.
08:49I'm not avoiding you.
08:50I genuinely forgot.
08:52All right.
08:53I'll be around in ten minutes.
08:54No, look, I can't.
08:56I'm waiting for a phone call from New York.
08:58It'll have to be another night.
08:59Tomorrow?
09:00Can't tomorrow.
09:01Thursday?
09:02Can't on Thursday either.
09:04Saturday, then?
09:05Uh, yes.
09:06No, well, probably, uh...
09:08Look, I'll have to call you, Frank.
09:10Sorry.
09:11Bye.
09:12Bye.
09:15Bye.
09:15Bye.
09:20Bye.
09:28Hello.
09:28Yeah, you speak?
09:30Oh, hello, Dad.
09:31Do you want a girl tonight?
09:32I thought you were having dinner with...
09:34Over here.
09:34Well, I'd love to, but I can't.
09:38I'm sorry, I'm going out.
09:40Yeah, if there's anything in the fridge.
09:41In the what?
09:42In the fridge.
09:43How should I know what's in the fridge?
10:10in the first half
10:13then five minutes into the second half the turning point comes with a decisive Maradona break
10:18Maradona on the ball, always danger, lets it outside him, he can't turn, Maradona's there, rice is a buckshot
10:26I'm born!
10:31Maradona's there, rice is a buckshot

12:27I'm not sure
12:29he's not really a plumber, is he?
12:31well, he was

12:37he's a wide boy
12:39well, no, I mean

16:48Nostalgic rock and roll weekend at Butlin's Bogdaregis.
16:51That'll do it.
17:00Oh, help me move this, will you?

17:17You're not a rapist, are you?
17:19I am, but it's my day off.
17:22Are you a friend of Tessa's?
17:24Yes.
17:25Are you?
17:25Yes.
17:26Well, where is she?
17:27Well, she...
17:28Once a year, I come down for the art and antique show.
17:31We go together after we've had lunch.
17:34Here I am.
17:34Where is she?
17:35I phoned her new office.
17:37They don't know where she is.
17:38Some bank was the best they could do.
17:40You're Tessa's mum, aren't you?
17:41Of course.
17:43Does she take you anywhere special for lunch?
17:48How'd it go?
17:49Okay.
17:51It's just a matter of shuffling limited options, really, isn't it?
17:54I opened an account for the fun run.
17:56You're at the printer's in 20 minutes.
17:59I couldn't find the estimates.
18:02Oh, thanks.
18:03You'll make someone a terrific wife.
18:06Oh, Chris, I'm sorry.
18:08Oh, please.
18:09I hope you're right.
18:15Oh, is that Tessa?
18:16Mm-hmm.
18:17Oh, the mother phone.
18:18Did she?
18:19I expect she'll phone back.
18:24What's that?
18:26A Davenport.
18:27What's that?
18:29A writing disc.
18:30Everybody uses word processes these days.
18:36What do you reckon?
18:38Mid-Victorian?
18:40Yes.
18:44What do you reckon?
18:45Happy anniversary.
18:45Yeah.
18:46Nice.
18:47Pretty.
18:47What's that, Mother of Perns?
18:49Yes.
18:50Yes.
18:51Oh.
18:53Susie Cumber.
18:54Where's that?
18:57Harold Harvey.
18:58Newland School.
18:59No, where is it?
19:01Well, it's Cornwall.
19:03I thought it was.
19:05Look at that, Marjorie.
19:06I thought that was Cornwall.
19:08I was evacuated there during the war.
19:10Well, we didn't get onto the beach, mind.
19:12And we weren't allowed.
19:14Well, actually, Harvey painted this just before the Cornish beaches were shut off for the duration of the first war.
19:19It's called Boy's Bathing.
19:22How much?
19:2418,500.
19:26You'll have to do better than that.
19:28Sorry?
19:29I'll go to 12.
19:32No, I'm sorry.
19:35Okay.
19:3717?
19:4414.
19:45Not a hope.
19:5016,500.
19:5915.
20:0115,500.
20:04Okay, mate.
20:05Wrap it up.
20:07There.
20:08It's all set up.
20:09Just type.
20:10When you're finished, press that to save the text.
20:12Right.
20:13Thanks.
20:17I'm sorry I kept Ben waiting.
20:19Oh, it's all right.
20:20Everything's out of kilter at the moment.
20:22I spent most of my life trying to catch up with my life.
20:24You know what you mean.
20:26Geeta wrote and told me.
20:28I hardly knew her.
20:30But I'm really sorry.
20:32At first I was just incredibly busy, you know.
20:35Everything to arrange.
20:37So many things to take care of.
20:39Then I was miserable.
20:40Now I'm busy again.
20:42And miserable.
20:43Yeah.
20:44And miserable.
20:45How is she?
20:48Well, we're helping each other.
20:52Hi.
20:53Hi.
20:54You ready?
20:55Thought we'd pick up a pizza.
20:56Sound all right?
20:57Josh, I'm sorry.
20:59I've been trying to ring you.
21:00I'm having a drink with Tessa, you know, the new boss.
21:03I see.
21:04And I've got this report to write.
21:06You only got back today.
21:08Night.
21:10Night.
21:11I know, I know.
21:13But I've got to get this finished.
21:15You've been away for months.
21:17You're home for no more than a few days.
21:20This is your first night back.
21:23Sorry.
21:26No beer.
21:27No sleep.
21:33Well, I thought I'd get it out of the way.
21:36Make a start at least.
21:37Then a drink with what's her name?
21:39Yes.
21:39And a bite to eat, perhaps?
21:42Perhaps.
21:42I don't know.
21:46I'm wondering what makes this relationship work.
21:49Can't be absence makes the heart grow fonder, can it?
21:52Oh, Josh, you have to try to understand.
21:54Yeah, that's right.
21:55I have to understand.
21:57Or is it I have to understand?
21:59Either way, I seem to be doing most of the bloody work.
22:06This job is important to me.
22:08So are you.
22:11And if it comes to a choice, you'll win.
22:14But I'm asking you not to make me choose.
22:25Never mind, Margie.
22:26We had a good day.
22:28Call her the bargain.
22:29It was the same when she was a child.
22:32We never knew what she was up to.
22:35Sometimes I wish I'd had a son.
22:38Daughters are either willful or a worry or both.
22:40They need more looking after than a boy.
22:44I suppose I find it difficult to get used to the idea of Tessa being high-powered.
22:49She is high-powered, isn't she?
22:53Definitely.
22:55Do you know that saying about a prophet not being respected in his own country?
23:00Go on.
23:00I think it might be a bit like that with people and families.
23:05Tessa's father is a doctor, you know.
23:07I used to be rather proud of him for that.
23:10Now I never really think about it.
23:12In the same way, he doesn't think much about how I might spend my days.
23:19We've grown used to one another.
23:21It's the same with children, in a way.
23:24You change their nappies and see them through chickenpox and help them with their homework
23:28and tell them off for staying out late.
23:31And then one day you look up and they're important people.
23:37High-powered.
23:40But somehow, you can't quite see how that person was once your little girl.
23:50I'd have liked to be high-powered.
23:52Would you?
23:53And what would you have been?
23:55Archbishop of Canterbury.
23:57Why?
23:58Nice frocks.
24:00So, things are going smoothly.
24:02Things in general?
24:04One or two problems.
24:05We can't get the farmers to work with the nomads.
24:07It's the usual story.
24:08Still, it's disappointing, though.
24:10Anyway, it'll be in the report.
24:13Good.
24:14Well, things are okay over there.
24:19Not so okay over here.
24:22I know that Geeta mentioned it.
24:25The thing is, I spend a lot of time out of the country.
24:27It's in the nature of the job.
24:31And, well, short version of the story is that my boyfriend's getting edgy.
24:36He's saying it's difficult to run a relationship at a long distance.
24:40Yes.
24:41What are you saying?
24:44Well, I'm saying hang on.
24:46What's he hanging on for?
24:49What he wants.
24:51Me.
24:52Living together.
24:54Marriage, perhaps.
24:55Kids, for all I know.
24:56What he wants.
24:59Yes, I didn't mean it to sound like that.
25:01I want those things, too.
25:03But not yet.
25:07I like being out there.
25:08I like the work.
25:10I feel I'm doing something worthwhile.
25:12And I know how corny that sounds and how naive it can seem.
25:16And I know that saying it can be a sort of self-praise.
25:19But it's not.
25:19It's how I feel.
25:21How do you feel about, um...
25:23Josh.
25:23Josh.
25:24I'm in love with him.
25:25So, what's the plan?
25:27Well, you don't have to worry.
25:29I'm not going to abandon the project.
25:31Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
25:33I'm not worried about the project.
25:35There are other project managers.
25:37I've looked at your report.
25:39The progress you've made.
25:40The way the scheme has developed.
25:42Terrific.
25:43No complaints.
25:43You're valuable to us.
25:44There's no question about that.
25:46But it could be handed over.
25:51Geeta said you were okay.
25:53She was right.
25:55Did she?
25:57What else did she say?
26:00She said you were tough.
26:02Efficient.
26:04That you didn't suffer fools gladly.
26:06And that anyone could say anything to you without playing games.
26:10You'll finish the project?
26:12Yes, I'll definitely finish the project.
26:16Josh will have to give me that.
26:18Afterwards, I'm not sure.
26:20That's all right.
26:22Let me know nearer the time.
26:24Thanks.
26:27So, what's the next move?
26:30Well, talk to him.
26:32And then I'm going up to Newcastle for a couple of days to spend some time with my parents.
26:36Let them see I haven't contracted leprosy or something.
26:40My mother worries about me.
26:43Oh, damn.
26:46Ma?
26:47Mother?
26:52Don't tell me something important came up at the office.
27:01I had lunch at Montplaisier.
27:03I had some.
27:04It was superb.
27:05Then we went to the art and antiques fair in a taxi.
27:08And Frank bought a painting.
27:10Did you?
27:11Well, I haven't bought anything for a while.
27:13I was getting withdrawal symptoms.
27:15What on earth will you do with it?
27:16What do you mean do with it?
27:18Sell it?
27:19Vandalize it?
27:19What do you think I'm going to do with it?
27:23I really am sorry.
27:25I don't know how I could...
27:29I'm really sorry.
27:31Yes.
27:32Fortunately, there was Frank.
27:34Who has, on occasions, been stood up himself.
27:38And knows how upsetting it can be.
27:42Tomorrow I'll get the afternoon off, I'm sure of that.
27:46I'm catching a train at four.
27:48Are you?
27:50Well, I'll...
27:51Don't worry.
27:53Frank and I have plans.
28:06Nice-looking horsey.
28:08Strides out well.
28:10Excuse me, has he got a jump in him?
28:12Oh, yeah.
28:13Can you gallop?
28:14Oh, yeah.
28:20What'll you do?
28:21Try him over fences?
28:22Thought we would, yeah.
28:23Bring him on for the Tottenham Gold Cup.
28:25Be right, yeah.
28:26Give me the nod when you think it off, will you?
28:29Okay, yeah.
28:33Malcolm, it's perfectly all right by me if Barnblatt take an interest.
28:36I'm just anxious to know that Q's motives regarding serious money aren't muddled by...
28:43Malcolm, I'll have to call you back.
28:45All right.
28:46Bye-bye.
28:49Your plan for attracting corporate finance?
28:52Yes.
28:52Linked to an advertising campaign that will...
28:54No, not an advertising campaign.
28:55Okay, a house-style image?
28:57Right, which you think a total waste of time and money.
28:59Go on.
29:00Not if you get the funding you speak of in those notes, it won't be.
29:04I think perhaps I reacted to the scheme too quickly.
29:06I was prejudiced.
29:08I'm apologising.
29:11Protem?
29:11You're entitled to think so, I suppose.
29:14No, I'm just apologising.
29:16I was in the wrong.
29:18Geeta asked me to tell you...
29:20No, no, no, yes.
29:24Geeta asked me to tell you we're fully organised for the fun run.
29:28Apparently, there's now a novelty costume entry.
29:31I thought we might go as Tom and Jerry.
29:48Oh, girl.
29:57Oh, girl.
30:03I don't say anything.
30:05Can I say thank you?
30:07No.
30:11Tell Tessa I'll phone her.
30:13It's a bit difficult for her, you know, with this new job, trying to make a fist of it.
30:16I'm not cross with her.
30:18I was once, but I'm not now.
30:20I don't know what to make of you.
30:22No.
30:23Well, you're not the first.
30:27It's difficult with children to let go.
30:30I know it's a cliché, but it's true.
30:33Even when they're in the 30s and 40s, parents still say...
30:38The children.
30:40Our children.
30:43Hadn't you better get off?
30:44I don't think you'll find much excitement in Grimsby.
30:50Give Tessa, Milo.
30:52I will.
30:53I know she's got her own life.
30:56It's just...
30:57Sometimes I find that hard.
31:16I don't know if you'd like to.
31:19Okay, bye.
31:35Hi, it's Tessa.
31:37I'm sorry if you were stuck with my mother.
31:40Oh, damn.
31:41That's the trouble with these machines.
31:43You can't change what you say.
31:44I didn't mean it quite that way.
31:46Um, it was very nice of you.
31:50Um, well, as well as wanting to say that,
31:54I'm calling because, uh, I have a problem.
31:56I can't make dinner on Saturday night, after all.
31:59I'm sorry.
32:01I have to give a sort of business dinner tonight, though.
32:03Uh, at the Cori Noor.
32:05You might find it boring.
32:07But turn up if you'd like to.
32:09Okay, bye.
32:19I have worked my jacksy off trying to sort this place out.
32:22You could say something.
32:24Fabulous.
32:26I think I'll go out and spend some of my bonus money tonight.
32:30What bonus?
32:31That 500 quid you bet me.
32:34I'm still in the game, Max.
32:36It just so happens that she's invited me to join her tonight.
32:39Only because she knows you'll pick up the tab.
32:42Face it.
32:43All you are is a rich plumber to her.
32:47Yeah.
32:50Maybe that is how she sees me.
32:59Oh, it can be lonely.
33:01I understand that.
33:02Do you?
33:04I did a year's VSO work after university.
33:07I was homesick a lot of the time.
33:09It's lonely and it's not.
33:11Mostly it's just busy.
33:13It's lonelier for some than for others.
33:16I'll make it up to you.
33:18How?
33:19I'll think of something.
33:21Hold that thought.
33:22There must be other project managers who are more interested in doing other projects.
33:29Well, you said the call in if I was passing light, didn't you?
33:33It's alright, it's alright.
33:34Don't worry about it.
33:35Have we had the wine this day?
33:38Frank, you're a clutch, you know that?
33:40No, thank you.
33:41I'm fine.
33:45So, how long are you going to, uh, what's it?
33:47Niger.
33:48Niger.
33:49I'm on a three-year contract.
33:51I come back once a year.
33:53You going to?
33:55No.
33:57It's a bit long, isn't it, between, you know, meetings?
34:01Well, you're not the only person to have noticed that.
34:05Said the wrong thing, have I?
34:07That's right.
34:08It was the wrong thing when I said it, too.
34:09That's not fair.
34:11I don't like it that you're unhappy, you know that.
34:13I'm sorry.
34:14Yes, it was unfair.
34:16I've been keeping count and realised it was my turn.
34:21Should have kept my mouth shut, eh?
34:23No, it's alright.
34:25We're working things out.
34:27In full view of everyone else, it seems.
34:30Well, Tessa and I don't see a lot of each other, either.
34:35But I wouldn't say we're exactly working things out.
34:39Would you?
35:04I'm a bit fed up with this relationship, Tess.
35:08I wasn't aware we had a relationship.
35:11Yeah, alright.
35:12But whatever we've got, I'm fed up with it.
35:15I need more.
35:16You mean sex.
35:20No.
35:21I mean more.
35:26Like those two kids had a dinner.
35:29I mean, they've got their problems.
35:30We've got our problems.
35:32They've got distance between them.
35:34So have we in a funny sort of way.
35:38Because they're trying to narrow the gap.
35:42See what I mean?
36:17Back on Monday.
36:18Yes, back on Monday.
36:20Give them my love.
36:22Even mother?
36:23Even your mother.
36:34I'll phone you tonight.
36:36All right.
36:51Problem?
36:52No, I just fancied another kiss.
37:11Very nice. Trendy, but not too young. Tessa will like it.
37:17I don't think she's a bit conservative.
37:18You are a bit conservative. Hasn't she told you that?
37:22Come to think of it, why isn't she here helping you to choose your clothes?
37:27I'm knocking that one on the head.
37:33Here, you've paid me too much here.
37:36What am I saying?
37:37Put your bonus in.
37:39Eh?
37:41Oh.
37:42Well, life's too short, isn't it?
37:45Well, there you go.
37:47Here, there's only about 350 here.
37:50Our bet was for 500.
37:52That was before stoppages.
37:56Chris.
37:57Chris?
37:57Yeah?
37:59No, thanks.
38:07See you, it gave you a hard help.
38:12Okay, yes.
38:14Yes, I will.
38:17Where's...
38:19Right, give me a number.
38:20There's a number.
38:21Oh, five, three, three...
38:35Mother.
38:37This is 3-6-9-9.
38:39We've been inside the base.
38:40I am calling in from the scene of an RTA
38:42at the junction of the A1 and the A16.
38:48We need a PNC search on the gulf. Registration number A258SVS. Driver female, probably late 20s. The ambulance is on
39:00its way to Lannaby Park Hospital. DLA? Yeah, I'm afraid so. Looks like a fatal.
39:15I don't care.
40:25Frank Carver.
40:48Hello?
40:50Hello?
40:52Sot off, you dirty pleader.
40:54Hello?
41:04Hello?
41:07Hello?
41:14Hello?
41:15Hello?
41:18Hello?
41:19Hello?
41:27So why don't you...
41:30Frank, it's me.
41:32Tessa?
41:35I'm sorry, I know it's late.
41:37Did I wake you?
41:38What? No, no, no. It's all right. I was reading.
41:42What's the matter?
41:45What is it, Tess?
41:49I couldn't ring Diane. I mean, it's the middle of the night. Forgot it.
42:11I don't know. It's selfish, really.
42:14What is?
42:15The tears, the upset. I barely knew her.
42:19You liked her, though.
42:20Yes, I did. I did like her.
42:25She seemed bright and committed and troubled and honest.
42:35I suspect the world could use a few more like her.
42:39No, it's only...
42:41Was I crying for more than just Lynn?
42:46For example?
42:48I don't know.
42:50We make such a mess of things, don't we?
42:54Kids.
42:56Parents. Being parents.
42:58Husbands. Wives.
43:00Lovers.
43:02Before we can set things straight or make amends, we're dead.
43:10Let's go to bed.
43:11Why?
43:12I'm tired, aren't you?
43:14Oh, yeah.
43:17I mean, go to the same bed.
43:18I thought you wanted to.
43:20Don't you?
43:21Yeah, of course.
43:23But I expected...
43:25What?
43:26I don't know.
43:27Something first.
43:29What?
43:30Oh, well, I don't know.
43:32Dinner or something.
43:34Bit of kissing, bit of music.
43:36Then you sort of let me talk you into it.
43:38I don't need talking into it.
43:41Come on, Frank.
43:42Come to bed.
43:43Why now?
43:46Because I'm sad.
43:50Is that a good reason?
43:53Better than most.
43:58I don't know.
44:04I don't know.
44:13You okay?
44:15I'm okay.
44:17How are you taking it?
44:18Fine.
44:19Just recovering from the shock of being seduced.
44:22I didn't seduce you.
44:24I asked for your body and you handed it over without much of a struggle.
44:37Um, there's something I want to say.
44:40Sounds like a meeting.
44:41Well, it is in a way.
44:45First I met you.
44:46Then I didn't want to see you anymore.
44:48Then I did.
44:49And that's about the stage we're at now, right?
44:51Well, missing out on the good bits, yeah.
44:53I want to go on seeing you.
44:55If you want to go on seeing me.
44:57But there have to be terms.
44:59And conditions?
45:00Yes.
45:01A contract?
45:03Mm, something like that.
45:05Go on.
45:07There's no good for me if I feel owned or controlled.
45:10The relationship has to allow leeway for both of us.
45:15No, what time do you call this or where have you been or it's our night for seeing each other.
45:21I've got my own life to lead.
45:23It's something you'll have to accept.
45:25You're not the first person to tell me that.
45:28All right, so it's me.
45:30I've got a career, a flat, a deposit account, and I like me that way.
45:37Okay.
45:38No rules, no demands, no exclusivity.
45:47That means seeing other people?
45:49I suppose so, if you want to.
46:02Oh, hello, Mike.
46:04Thanks for calling back.
46:08Well, what do you think?
46:09There's lots of possibilities, aren't there?
46:10Not bad, are they?
46:11Yes.
46:13Well, I think we ought to get someone professional for the voiceover.
46:17But first...
46:30Well...
46:31Do they go out together or...
46:32Sorry, Mike.
46:33Yes.
46:34No, I was just wondering whether...
46:35Well, if we get a dozen cassettes made, I'll send them out with the package.
46:39No.
46:40No.
46:41No.
47:02No.
47:07No.
47:10No.
47:11We don't have to.
47:12But we can.
47:13If we want to.
47:17Right.
47:26Hello.
47:27It's Max.
47:28Oh, I'm on me way.
47:29I've been trying to call you since last night.
47:31Whose toothbrush did you borrow this morning?
47:34That is a cheap joke with an expensive answer.
47:37Five hundred quid, give or take.
47:39Blimey.
47:40Are you an item then?
47:41Oh, I don't know.
47:43I think so.
47:44Yeah, sort of.
47:46Congratulations.
47:47Only I've spent all the money.
47:49You'll have to dock me wages.
47:51Well, Max, you hang on to it.
47:53After all, money isn't everything, is it?
47:58Oh, God.
48:00He's in love.
48:28Love hurts, but who can't live without it?
48:33Oh, how love hurts, so you'd better run and hide.
48:38But remember, love hurts you just the same.
49:01Love hurts you just the same.
49:09Love hurts you just the same.
