A call to stop the global housing crisis: World Urban Forum, why it matters?

More than 28,000 participants are set to gather in Baku for the UN's World Urban Forum as UN-Habitat warns that 3 billion people lack adequate housing and slum populations could triple by 2050.

00:00Baku Olympic Stadium is ready to welcome more than 33,000 registered participants from 180 countries
00:07as the world's leading global forum on cities and urbanization kicks off in the Azerbaijani capital.
00:13The official start of the WUV-13 marks the ministerial meeting on the progress made on the new urban agenda
00:20that will bring together representatives of governments that will come together and discuss the key points till 2036,
00:27what needs to be done to amplify the progress on the new urban agenda.
00:31So it's the first time that it's going to be at this scale.
00:34For the first time, the South Caucasus is hosting the World Urban Forum,
00:39showcasing the region's urban experiences and presenting a diverse program to the public.
00:45Speaking about Urban Expo, there will be more than around 130 pavilions represented by more than 40 countries.
00:54In order to raise awareness about the main theme of WUV-13,
01:00we have conducted WUV-13 festivals that took place in nine major cities in Azerbaijan,
01:06and it drew close more than 100,000 of participants in total.
01:12Under the theme housing the world's safe and resilient cities and communities,
01:16WUV-13 will address the global housing crisis and explore the importance of inclusion, resilience and sustainability.
