00:00Dutton Ranch is such a perfect addition to the Taylor Sheridan extended universe.
00:04How did you first hear about the project?
00:06I mean, this spinoff has been in the works for so long,
00:10and I was such a fan of the original show that once the show ended,
00:14I feel like everybody wanted the Beth and Rip spinoff.
00:18And when I heard that they were doing it, I was sent an audition,
00:23and obviously for this project, there's NDAs and locked passwords and websites,
00:30even for the scripts that we get now.
00:32So I had a little sight into what it was going to be,
00:35but I heard that it was Annette and Ed, and I was already sold.
00:39I wanted to do it beforehand.
00:41But yeah, I mean, being a fan of the show, it was something that I wanted.
00:44And what drew you to your character on the page?
00:47She walks into every room and she kind of says exactly what she's thinking.
00:50I think that what I like most about her is that she feels free.
00:58She takes control of a room, and playing characters like that,
01:01being able to have a dominance on screen,
01:05it's something that I've always really wanted to do,
01:07and this character takes it to the next level.
01:09And I was really happy to learn that the tradition of cowboy camp is alive and well.
01:13What was your biggest takeaway from that experience?
01:16I mean, for me, coming into this show,
01:18I had had some sort of horseback riding experience, but nothing to this degree.
01:23And what I love about it so much is that they're not just teaching us
01:26how to look good for the camera, they're teaching us real skills.
01:29So we were learning cutting and roping and riding and galloping and trotting.
01:35But I think the biggest takeaway is just how much I enjoy it and how grounding it is.
01:40I had no idea what an emotional feeling I would have just being on a horseback in the middle of
01:45Texas.
01:46It's nothing I ever thought I was going to be doing.
01:48And now it's a passion of mine, and I feel so lucky for that.
01:51It is a big reveal that she is Rob Will's daughter,
01:54and clearly their father and daughter bond is complicated.
01:57I sent your daddy off to rehab.
02:00So I've been told.
02:01It's past time he addressed his demons.
02:04Demons that you helped create.
02:05How long has this cycle of rehab and chaos gone on for?
02:10I think that Rob Will has struggled with addiction most of his life.
02:15It's interesting because the Jacksons should be this perfect picture family,
02:21and it's interesting to see that every family from the outside looks perfect,
02:26but there's so many different levels of hurt and sadness and betrayal
02:30and, honestly, manipulation within the family.
02:34But, I mean, meeting Jai, I love that you don't know that our characters are father and daughter from the
02:39beginning,
02:39and it was important for us to have similar characteristics and embody each other
02:46so that when you do see us on screen together, it makes sense.
02:48With Annette, too, I wanted it to be this kind of element of the apple not falling far from the
02:54tree.
02:55And it's clear that she has a contentious relationship with her grandmother.
03:00Yeah.
03:00How do you think that has shaped her?
03:03I mean, so Oriana grew up without a mom, so Beulah was her mom,
03:08and I think very similar to Beulah and Oriana, they don't like being told what to do,
03:14and I think that she embodies that from Beulah.
03:17She gets it from her.
03:19But they're both strong, independent women that are just very set in their ways,
03:25and, obviously, that is reflection.
03:28And I think that what I'm most excited about with episodes coming up,
03:31you'll start to understand why they are the way they are.
03:34What I love about Oriana is she's one of the first characters who truly sees Carter.
03:39You know, what do you think draws her to him?
03:42I think that there's an authentic realness about him.
03:44He's not trying to be something that he's not.
03:46I think in Oriana's world, she's obviously raised with money.
03:50She went to an amazing school, graduated at the top of her class, has a degree.
03:56And there's a lot of people that try to fake it.
04:00And Carter doesn't try anything.
04:03He's so authentically himself, and he comes from such a raw place.
04:07And they both have such complicated upbringings.
04:11And being able to feel like she can be herself in front of somebody, I think, is something she hasn't
04:17experienced before.
04:17And I don't think it's something that Carter's experienced before, either.
04:20So they have such a beautiful, just loving relationship.
04:23During one of their first exchanges, Oriana tells Carter,
04:27Nobody's going to make it easier for you.
04:29You've got to say, F them, and do whatever the F you want.
04:33You know, nobody's going to make it easy for you, Carter.
04:36You've got to do that yourself.
04:37You've just got to say, F it.
04:40F all of them.
04:44Do whatever the F you want.
04:45Is that her philosophy on life?
04:48I think so.
04:50I would say that's definitely her philosophy.
04:52I think she has been told who she's going to be from the day that she was born.
04:57And going into her adult years, I think that she's trying to break away from generational trauma.
05:03And she's a very passionate character.
05:07So she takes everything that she does to the very highest extreme.
05:13And one of my favorite parts about my character,
05:15you're going to see so much development throughout this season.
05:20And things start taking twists and turns.
05:23And I love the direction that it's going to go,
05:24but I'm not going to say what direction that is.
05:27Well, that would spoil the fun.
05:28Exactly.
