00:41U.S. President Donald Trump departed Beijing on Friday as critical talks with his Chinese
00:47counterpart Xi Jinping concluded after a two-day visit.
00:51Both leaders claim progress was made in stabilizing relations between the two countries,
00:56countries, but critical differences appear to still remain, especially on the topic of Taiwan.
01:24Trump said progress was also made regarding trade, claiming fantastic trade deals were made,
01:30but without providing further details. The two also spoke about the Iran war with Xi,
01:35saying that he wanted to help negotiate an end to the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
01:40We did discuss Iran. We feel very similar to Iran. We want that to end. We don't want them to
01:48have a nuclear weapon. We want the straits open.
01:52Very little information was provided on what trade agreements were struck during the summit,
01:57though Trump said in an interview with U.S. media that China agreed to purchase 200 Boeing jets.
02:03And finally, on Taiwan, Xi warned Trump that missteps in handling the issue could lead to conflict with the U
02:09.S.
02:1236 countries have signed up to a special tribunal to prosecute Russian President Vladimir Putin for the crime of aggression
02:21against Ukraine
02:22during the annual meeting of foreign affairs ministers of the Council of Europe in Moldova.
02:30Ukraine's foreign minister Andrei Sibiha hailed the decision and referred to the Nuremberg trials
02:36of surviving Nazi leaders in comparison. He added that Putin will be remembered in history as a criminal.
02:44The tribunal will work alongside a damage register collecting claims from victims of Russia's aggression
02:51and a claims commission that will assess those claims and decide compensation.
02:57The initiative was launched because the International Criminal Court can only prosecute the crime of aggression
03:03if the country involved is a member. Unlike war crimes or genocide, the crime of aggression targets top leaders,
03:11not individual soldiers. Responsibility lies with those who control the state.
03:17But as long as they remain in office, Putin and other top leaders cannot be tried in their absence.
03:27The death toll of Russia's large-scale drone and missile attack over the last two days,
03:32one of the largest in the past four years, has risen to 24 people.
03:37Ukrainian authorities said the strikes primarily targeted Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital,
03:43and began as a rare daytime attack on Wednesday, which continued into Thursday, also leaving 47 people injured.
03:51The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia had launched 675 attack drones and 56 missiles,
03:59adding its air defense units at down 652 of the drones and 41 missiles.
04:06Several EU leaders condemned the attack, lamenting Russia's undermining of any efforts to end the war.
04:14Russian authorities, meanwhile, said that Ukrainian strikes on the city of Ryzan
04:18and killed three people and wounded 12 others.
04:28Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has come to the defense of Barcelona star Lamin Yemal,
04:33saying he had made Spain, quote,
04:35proud for waving a Palestinian flag at a victory parade.
04:39The 18-year-old forward drew attention for brandishing a Palestinian flag during an open-top bus parade
04:47through Barcelona on Monday as the Catalan giants celebrated their second straight La Liga title.
04:54Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz lashed out at the Spanish star on Thursday,
04:59accusing him of, quote, inciting hatred towards Israel and towards Jews.
05:04In a statement on social media platform X, Katz added that a great and respected club like Barcelona
05:11should distance itself from the gesture and make it clear that there is no place for incitement or for support
05:18of terrorism.
05:19Sanchez, an outspoken critic of Israel, who's called its devastating two-year war against Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza
05:27a genocide, hit back in defense of Yemal.
05:30Relations between Spain and Israel have plummeted since the start of the Gaza wars,
05:35backed by the Hamas-led attack on Israel on 7 October 2023.
05:43British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is facing an open rebellion within his government
05:47following the resignation of Health Secretary Wes Streeting.
05:51Streeting is the first cabinet members to step down since Labour suffered disastrous losses
05:55in last week's local and regional elections, which saw the party lose control of the developed Welsh Parliament
06:01and dropped more than 1,300 consul seats.
06:05In his resignation letter, Streeting sharply criticized Starmer's direction,
06:09writing that a vacuum of vision had left the administration in a state of drift.
06:14The departure follows the resignation of four junior ministers,
06:18with more than 80 Labour MPs now openly calling on the Prime Minister to step down.
06:23While Starmer has vowed to remain in office, backed by roughly 100 loyalist lawmakers,
06:28internal pressure continues to mount as potential contenders position themselves.
06:33Former Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, a left-wing figurehead highly popular with the party's grassroots,
06:39announced she has been cleared of deliberate wrongdoing by tax authorities.
06:44The development effectively clears her path to enter a future leadership contest alongside Streeting.
06:49Supporters of Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham are also urging Starmer to set a clear timetable for his departure,
06:56allowing the mayor to seek Westminster's seat and join the race.
07:00Under party rules, a challenger requires the backing of 81 Labour MPs to trigger a formal contest.
07:11Latvia's centre-right Prime Minister Evika Selina announced on Thursday she will resign from the top job
07:17following controversy over her coalition and a drone incident.
07:22Selina's resignation means a de facto collapse of the governing tripartite coalition,
07:27which has been under strain for months.
08:00Her resignation came after Latvijas defence minister Andrīz Prūds from the Progressive Party
08:06was forced to resign last week over the government's handling of multiple incidents
08:11involving straight drones crossing into Latvijan territory.
08:17The new Hungarian government has officially ended the state of emergency
08:21that was put in place during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic by former Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
08:27The new Prime Minister Piedr Macar stated that the move represents a return to normality,
08:32arguing that the decree-based emergency rule was an outdated wartime method.
08:37The previous administration under Orban had repeatedly extended the measure,
08:42citing security and humanitarian risks following the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
08:47The European Parliament had long criticised the system as incompatible with European values.
08:53In a stark shift in foreign policy, Budapest has also summoned the Russian ambassador
08:58Evgeny Stanislavov, following a massive drone attack near the border with Ukraine.
09:02The strikes hit the Transcarpathia region, which is home to a significant Hungarian minority.
09:07On Wednesday, Russia launched at least 800 drones in a barrage
09:11that targeted roughly 20 regions across Ukraine, killing six people and wounding dozens.
09:17Prime Minister Majar strongly condemned the attack,
09:20noting that Foreign Minister Anita Orban would demand the information
09:24on when Vladimir Putin plans to end the conflict.
09:27Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the shift in Budapest,
09:31describing the summons as an important message.
09:41Alexandra Mattheou is heading to Cannes with her short film Free Eliza,
09:45or notes on an anatomical imperfection.
09:47The film will have each world premiere at the director's fortnight,
09:50the section of the festival long known for championing independent and daring cinematic voices.
09:55Eliza, the film's protagonist, works at a luxury hotel resort.
09:58Because of an anatomical deficiency, she's unable to smile.
10:02In a world dominated by positivity, this becomes a serious problem.
10:32A co-production between Cyprus, Greece and France,
10:35the film is one of just nine short films selected for this year's program.
10:39Filming for Alexandre Mattheou's third short film lasted four days.
10:42Because in a first level, yes, it is the shock and the loss of its loss,
10:46and how it differs from around the world.
10:48But in a second level, it is generally,
10:50who is the person who claims to meet the norm of what is humanly okay,
10:57that's why it's important to me to give you this hero.
10:59By growing up, I have understood that it is an obstacle to be able to talk with people.
11:06If you feel a little more attractive, you may be able to achieve things more easily
11:13than other people who have said this social skill.
11:18But it's a good way to get someone with a trufferity and a challenge
11:24to people who can't allow them to be able to free a social dialogue with a mess,
11:33but I don't think it's a danger in any case.
