00:01The United States signaled it was not afraid to resume the war with Iran as no
00:06deal was signed despite President Donald Trump claiming he was on the verge of
00:09reaching an agreement. Trump said he was looking to make his final decision on
00:14the deal to extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The US
00:18president held a meeting in the White House Situation Room with advisors on
00:22Friday but it had concluded without a decision. Meanwhile US Defense Secretary
00:28Pete Hegseth said Washington could restart the war if it wanted to.
00:32Our ability to recommence if necessary is we're more than capable. Our stockpiles are
00:37more than suited for that both there and around the globe because of how we balance
00:42exquisite and more plentiful conditions. We're in a very good place. Trump said the
00:47deal must adhere to some of his red lines including that Tehran should never be able
00:52to develop nuclear weapons. Iran on its end has pushed back against this
00:56requirement. Tehran has repeatedly claimed its nuclear program is peaceful and for
01:01civilian purposes only.
01:06Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Russia may be preparing to
01:11launch a massive new attack against Ukraine. Russia has recently intensified its
01:16strikes with Kyiv being hit particularly hard. Last weekend Russia launched one of
01:21its largest attacks on the capital since the start of its full-scale invasion in 2022.
01:26We have information from the development of the development of the new mass attack. Please
01:32please advise on the air-free rage. Protect life. The operations of our nuclear weapons and other
01:40allies will work 24 as 7 as always. The issue of the PPO, the need to continue to help Ukraine
01:48with
01:49our protection of the air-free. This is our main priority.
01:51On Friday, Zelenskyy reiterated his call for more Patriot missile systems from the U.S.,
01:57which can intercept Russian ballistic missiles.
02:00Ukraine has also stepped up its strikes on occupied territories and on Russia
02:04in retaliation for the daily Russian bombardments.
02:12Fasil Opinika is 87 years old.
02:14He lives in Galatsy in Romania, nearby the building which was struck by a Russian drone on Friday.
02:20From his apartment on the 10th floor, he now regularly scans the sky and the surroundings
02:25out of fear for a new incident.
02:31In the case of an emergency, Fasil also worries that he would not have enough food supplies to last
02:42until rescuers arrive.
03:09The Russian drone had been part of an overnight attack on Ukraine and changed its trajectory,
03:14what led it to crash in Romania, a NATO member state.
03:18It is unclear what caused the drone to change its course, but the incident added to concerns
03:23that the war could spread across the alliance's borders.
03:29Wolters in Malta have cast their ballots on Saturday in a snap general election called
03:33by Prime Minister Robert Abella.
03:35Malta, the smallest EU nation, is at the same time the fastest growing economically,
03:40and that's what Abella trusts will secure him and his Labour Party a record fourth term.
03:45Opinion polls put him comfortably ahead, with his campaign focusing heavily on economic stability
03:50and on shielding the small Mediterranean nation from global crisis.
03:54As the island's GDP grew 4% last year, inflation is low, and there is no real unemployment.
04:00Electricity and fuel prices have also been frozen for the best part of 10 years,
04:04making them the lowest in Europe.
04:06His main rival is nationalist party candidate Alex Borg, a 30-year-old lawyer who aims to
04:11become the country's youngest leader. The political choice comes despite persistent
04:16concerns over environmental degradation, a foreign-driven construction boom, and deep-seated
04:21state corruption. According to political analysts, many citizens prioritize financial security over
04:26political scandal, despite a highly critical Council of Europe report on institutional corruption.
04:32The administration has also earmarked an additional 250 million euros for subsidies to cushion families
04:37against the fallout of the Middle East conflict.
04:40Preliminary results are expected to emerge on Sunday afternoon.
