00:00Welcome back.
00:01Despite the warm words and diplomatic pleasantries, U.S. President Donald Trump left China on
00:07Friday without any major breakthroughs.
00:10An analyst says this signals no major shift in U.S.-China relations, with both sides focusing
00:16on maintaining stable ties rather than delivering any major policy shifts.
00:22But on the whole, it seems to be more symbolic, more of a warm relationship between the two
00:27men personally.
00:28It seems, looking at the readouts, that the U.S. President has not, perhaps in the minds
00:36of many, capitulated in the way that many were concerned he would in terms of changing
00:42the language on Taiwan or giving access to sensitive U.S. technologies.
00:47Again, this is all based on readouts.
00:49We did not have any cameras or recordings of their discussions, but on the whole, it seems
00:56like this is not a meeting thus far that will show any major shift in U.S.-China relations,
01:03both bilaterally and the region more broadly.
01:07With Trump's approval ratings remaining in the 30s, he said any commitments made in Beijing
01:12may still face resistance back home.
01:16President Trump may say he wants to do something.
01:18But with the President facing an approval rating in the 30s, he very well may not get the buy-in
01:25back home that he had perhaps offered while he was in Beijing.
01:29So, I think long-term-wise, I really would, at this point, would be surprised if this is
01:35seen as a momentous and historic visit.
01:38But in the long term, I would imagine this is seen as a visit that helps stabilize tensions
01:43tensions, and it gives at least a pause to sort of economic hostilities that we'd seen in
01:48recent months.
