Taiwan has assembled its first-ever Indigenous search and rescue teams in 12 regions across the country. This comes after severe flash flooding in Hualien last year that underscored the importance of strengthening rescue efforts in Taiwan's Indigenous communities.

00:04There are more than 200 members across 12 regions, including New Taipei, Taitung and Hualien.
00:10The decision to set up the teams comes after flash floods inundated Hualien in eastern Taiwan,
00:16killing 19 people and injuring over 150 others.
00:46Many members are retired firefighters and people with medical services.
00:50These are all rescue related skills.
