00:00Gen Z men have grown up with porn in their pockets via smartphones and now that they're becoming
00:06adults many are looking back on their upbringing and realizing that porn has completely warped
00:12their relationship to others and their relationship to their own sexualities. I spoke to six young men
00:18for the New York Post about their own experiences and here are some of the things they had to tell
00:22me. After discovering porn in sixth grade one young man told me that he started viewing his
00:27crushes differently and he thought more about their body parts than the whole woman. He also said
00:32that porn seemed to erase the sort of wholesome young early sexual encounters that used to be a
00:37rite of passage. In college he recalled girls asking for rough treatment that it didn't seem like they
00:43actually wanted but that they were replicating the patterns from pornography that taught them that that
00:49is what sex looks like. Another young man made the point that people used to have to go through
00:53enormous efforts to access porn and subject themselves to going into the seedy back
00:59corner of a video store whereas now it's just on your phone under your sheets as a tween. I think
01:05that's the really profound thing that came through to me in writing this article that young men have
01:10had an unprecedented unfettered access that really has fundamentally shifted their understandings of
01:16sex but also their own desires and their own experiences in real life.
