00:00Everyone who's freaking out about looksmaxers and pretending that clavicular reinvented the wheel
00:05needs to take a step back and realize that women have been doing almost exactly this for decades.
00:10Yes, it's true that young men are manipulating their bodies and going to ridiculous lengths in
00:14order to look better, but so have girls for generations. Young girls were the canary in
00:19the coal mine and developed all sorts of dysmorphia and insecurity as a result of social media,
00:24but a couple years on, it's clear that boys are following in their path.
00:28Looksmaxers are to boys what beauty gurus have long been to girls, and their ascent is just further
00:34proof of the fact that young people especially cannot bear to be bombarded by a constant stream
00:40of idealized lives, imperfected, photoshopped, manipulated, and filtered bodies, and still
00:46come out the other end feeling great about themselves. Self-improvement is a good thing,
00:50but it can quickly become toxic if it gets out of control and augmented by social media.
