Donald Trump praised stronger U.S.-China relations during a state banquet speech in Beijing, despite earlier threats of sanctions and sharp criticism toward China on trade and security issues. The remarks sparked debate online, with critics accusing Trump of displaying “double standards” by shifting from confrontational rhetoric to diplomatic praise.

Trump emphasized economic cooperation, mutual respect, and the importance of maintaining stable ties between Washington and Beijing. Chinese officials welcomed the positive tone, while political observers viewed the moment as a strategic attempt to balance domestic political messaging with international diplomacy amid growing geopolitical competition between the two global powers.

01:06And it was a great honor to be with you. Please.
01:56The relationship between the American and Chinese people goes all the way back to America's founding, the first American council
02:05to China, Samuel Shaw, arrived on the first American trading ship,
02:10to reach these shores. In 1784, the Chinese merchants had a name for the Americans. They called their visions the
02:20new people.
02:21Two and a half centuries later, that first connection has grown into one of the most consequential relationships in world
02:29history.
02:30However, the American people and the Chinese people together can reach the United States to the United States.

04:22It bears the words of a Chinese official
04:25who called the great general and statesman
04:27a hero among men.
05:04And across the centuries,
05:07this mutual esteem grew into a relationship
05:09that reflected the tremendous talent
05:11and potential of our two people.
