00:00special guests and at the end we have an exclusive from the next episode of race we are so excited
00:05for that it's almost going to be as exhilarating as hitting the dance floor at a mongolian disco
00:09right once that's all over there's still more for you to enjoy just search the detour on bbc
00:14sounds to hear our bonus show travel buddies so put your dancing shoes on clear your singing
00:19throat and join us for race across the world the detour now i can't wait to meet our guest so
00:28who
00:28has signed the book this week it's none other than presenters and co-hosts of the jack and ash
00:32podcast jack remington and ash home and from race across the world series four we've got betty in
00:39the studio now i think it's time to say hello again to our resident travel expert he might have been
00:45born on the wrong side of the millennium but he can get you to the big apple and back in
00:49a day it's
00:50alfie watts come on bro you got a fresh trim i do it's from peru this time i don't really
00:56have i don't
00:56really have a barber i just she's gone to peru i wouldn't say that was my commute but but i
01:02was
01:02there and it was eight quid so it actually looks decent i'm quite happy with it and towards the
01:07end of this episode i'll be revealing my optimal route for this leg of the race it'll be nice and
01:10quick but we'll also have a few stops for some eye-popping detours wicked now before i go any
01:14further if you're still in olgi and you haven't yet made it to harhorin then stop go and watch the
01:19seventh leg of race across the world series six and iplayer and then just come straight back here
01:23now what a leg that was it was the it challenged our races in ways that they'd never been challenged
01:28before ash mark and margo i'm devastated for them yeah me absolutely devastated i think like now we're
01:35just hoping that they get to the finish line yeah it feels like i love them too first of all
01:40and i
01:40think the fact that the common bond that joins them both is their loved one that's passed and it's
01:45brought them on this journey together yeah and i kind of love their attitude towards everything it's
01:49like whatever happens we just need to make it to the finish line which i think this is why this
01:54episode we're like on our hands we're like wait they might not actually make it to the finish line
01:58margo's got one more party left in her when she just got on the train and was just like everyone
02:03let's just wild out she is brilliant and poor mark just goes she's full of energy margo
02:08yeah yeah yeah yeah for real it's so great right let's talk about katie and harrison now because betty i
02:14think more than ever in this leg they were just kind of like enjoying themselves and really sort of
02:17embracing the race but then the travel aspect was really hard for them right yeah harrison said
02:22they've been mongolia'd that's it i love that and do you know what mongolia seems like so hard for
02:28transport like there's nothing there no i mean bless the couples that when the vehicles broke down like
02:34there's literally nothing else they can do no um but yeah katie and harrison i love their bond and i
02:39mean i can totally relate doing it with my brother with your sibling um yeah so i just absolutely love
02:44watching them honestly andrew and molly they're now in second place they've had a wicked race
02:49this leg but talk us through their tactics and choices like they chose to spend big going on
02:54taxis didn't they yeah i feel like it always you learn a lot watching it because you think as a
03:00viewer that what you would do is the right situation you know it's the same when you watch a lot
03:04of
03:04different shows and you're like well i've done that better i know that and then actually i'm like
03:07no maybe the best thing in certain situations is you stay before you want to start or you know and
03:12also i mean it's when you're on a budget i mean say for example you're on a night out and
03:14you're
03:14like oh we need to get over to point a and we're like i'm just gonna get a cab it's
03:19not just that
03:19easy to roll off the tongue when you're on a very limited and you just see that percentage going down
03:23and down and down of what they've got left no i'd be trying to book ubers in mongolia i'd be
03:28like get
03:29on my back we're fine we're gonna walk this one and save loads of money for 120 kilometers i think
03:33the issue is as well though we you don't see your budget going down you've got a little notebook and
03:37you're just hoping for the best that you have actually budget as well like yeah it's so helpful when you
03:41see the percentage go down but i was like they're not seeing that yeah so they mess it up you've
03:45got
03:45to do obviously the currency calculations in your head yeah that's what i was gonna say so if you
03:48do the numbers wrong you've got the numbers wrong that's that the one thing that also gets me is
03:51that every single taxi driver over there had so much vim and confidence to drive a prius into the
03:56desert like it wasn't gonna break down this episode where they were like at one point we were airborne
04:02i'm going pretty much check your tires no wonder why you're breaking down i mean that's a big thing
04:07no going off-roading yeah i mean this is this is just mongolia this is just what the country is
04:11i
04:11mean it's it's enormous yeah as we've seen it's not like hitchhiking in other countries like these
04:16guys expect money and the and the level of money it is quite an expensive country yeah for real i
04:21mean
04:22um two two people that did have a touch throughout this episode with joe and kush obviously they've
04:26held on to their position at the top of the leaderboard ash after some wobbles that they've had like
04:30early on in the race i feel like on this one kush's confidence is at an all-time high
04:34uh he's he's living his best life we even then got to um that remote mongolian party where then
04:40it turned out that the mongolian throat song was kush's favorite song right with his dad with his
04:45dad and obviously then i love those boys so much like give them both a crown and knight them i
04:53just
04:53think they are they and they're like their dynamic together is so great to watch as well because
04:59kush has mentioned loads of times that he gets really anxious you know when he was up all night
05:04but then joe will stay up with him and so they are just so wise beyond their years and like
05:09watching
05:10them grow together is so it's actually joyous like i've really enjoyed watching makes you want to text
05:14your mates and say thank you for being my friend i always am just flabbergasted at how young they are
05:18as well because like the way that they interact with each other i'm like it feels like they're quips
05:22between each other they've got the life experience of 40 year olds and then you're like no they're
05:25actually just young lads who are smashing it yeah but i mean alfie in mongolia it was hard when it
05:31came to
05:31travel right yeah and it's like you said about going off road that is basically their only option
05:36is to get between towns because there are very very few paved roads in mongolia um every car is a
05:42taxi
05:42if you're polite enough basically because the hospitality is deeply ingrained in mongolian
05:46culture at this time of year it can it can get down to minus 20 at night in some places
05:49so they
05:50are so used to so they just need people coming over for body heat yeah and they just love the
05:56stories
05:57but ultimately you know these are huge distances so if you do hitchhike then it will cost unlike in
06:01other countries because gas stations are sparse and as we've seen breakdowns happen this is what
06:07this is what the country is which is what makes it so amazing i don't know i think that's the
06:10only
06:10exception though because if my powers were like dropping me to the station and then they said yeah
06:13can you give me a fiber for petrol money i'd be like that's a bit tight come on what if
06:16they had to
06:17what if they had to like ground hop over yeah then that's a bit different your airborne's out of
06:22and also it's like a three-hour journey to the club rather than like five minutes it's like
06:27i think it's fair you give me petrol money i've just driven you for half a day
06:32how many people are willing to be like i'll take you it's two hours yeah yeah fat chance i'd never
06:37want to do that for you i'd never do it mental i'd never do it but how would you say
06:42that you and
06:43james would have approached this leg bearing in mind that that maps are very unreliable james would
06:47have hated really like so much like he you know in our route when we got to book a tingy
06:54book a tingy yeah but what was it why do you know everything is it because there's this running joke
06:59from our series and you were staring me in the eye yeah where book a tingy was like where the
07:03hell
07:03is that book a tingy if you forget to book attack did you book a tingy or no
07:12but james hated it there wasn't like toilet roll he missed carpets on his feet like so
07:17mongolia for him would have been a nightmare yeah um the travel stressful like you've only literally
07:22got this map that by leg seven it is falling to bits you know they've they've been through all
07:27weather and whatever and then you can't even follow it anyway like he would have really struggled i
07:31think i would have enjoyed it yeah just embracing the most you're a bit of free spirit yeah milking
07:36milking a cow just because we're lost now let's unpack the route from tonight's episode the seventh
07:41leg saw our races travel to hahorin in mongolia teams could head north via the city of ulangong
07:49to pick up the paved road east or go south following an established route skirting the kobe desert
07:59whichever path they choose parts of the journey will take them off road across unmapped trails
08:05and landscapes few tourists travel alfie my bro give us the knowledge one of the most impressive legs
08:12of race across the world probably ever going into mongolia which is an enormous country it's six times
08:18the size of the uk in area crazy but the uk has a population of 20 times more than mongolia
08:24we're a bit
08:24kosh phobic so yeah so you think about how sparse it populates it's got a population of three and a
08:29half million half of which just live in the capital city ulaanbaatar and we got to sit from the comfort
08:33of our own sofa and we did i mean betty andrew and molly they were in a great place at
08:38the start
08:38of this leg they had a big sort of budget where they could splash the cash and then andrew said
08:43he was
08:43like there's no point being a rich loser right and just started splashing it is that a good mentality
08:46do you know what i think so because like they have sacrificed in other legs and when better to spend
08:53your cash than in the last two just i mean i suppose it's that thing of like you've still got
08:58one more leg to go and it is the most important leg but i think so far so good they've
09:02definitely
09:02got the right tactic how much money did you finish on one pound forty one pound forty this question
09:08actually is that good budgeting or bad budgeting i think that's the best it's the best as close to
09:13zero as possible exactly yeah i could have had a pack of cookies on that boat over and still made
09:18it i reckon yeah do you know what exactly that would have been so good if you've literally had
09:25zero left and just been eating yeah yeah yeah yeah and she can't wait for the finish line
09:29yeah exactly alfie do you think that mark and margot can survive the rest of the race with less
09:37than what they only had like around 12 percent in their budget there i look if there's someone who can
09:41talk her way to the finish line it's gonna be margot yeah 100 so they just want to get there
09:48now
09:48i really hope they do because it will be such a rewarding thing and you know when you get so
09:52close
09:53yeah and so i i think they will get there but it's gonna be tough fingers crossed actually there was
09:57a
09:57moment like with uh andrew and molly they're also getting stuck into the local cuisine right and and
10:02it actually almost gave andrew a moment to sort of chill out and put at ease some of his anxieties
10:07at where he opened up about his heart attack right what is it about being so far away and outside
10:13of
10:13your comfort zone that makes you feel comfortable enough to talk about those things i think it just
10:18puts everything into perspective doesn't it like it's such a like trial and tribulation situation to
10:24be in and for that amount of time i can't even imagine how it is to do that actually and
10:30i think
10:30especially by this leg they have been going and going and going i think all you do is think about
10:35what are you grateful for you know like why am i here i guess like your what is your reason
10:39for
10:39doing this and i guess knowing that he overcame this massive health scare it's kind of like just
10:45an appreciation isn't it like wow i can't believe i get to do this and do it with my daughter
10:49how
10:49amazing is that i think it's so nice it's a really special space to do it and i think like
10:53you you spoke
10:54about your health before with mrkh how do you think it is opening up about something on a show like
10:59this
11:01it's something that like you you can't prepare yourself for because actually when you're in that
11:05moment you are sharing that with you and the person that you're doing the race with right so
11:08you know at the time that i shared my condition of mrkh i was sat with my brother on a
11:13bench in the
11:14middle of nowhere and then suddenly you've got millions of viewers that are about to watch it and
11:17that opens up like a completely different world so it's like yes you've come to terms with it and you're
11:22you know you're speaking to that other person about it but then the ripple effect that that has
11:27once the show goes out is like phenomenal because it's like the viewers are watching that and going
11:32oh i have that too or i can relate to that and i've always said like race across the world
11:36yes you
11:37are showing different parts of the world but you are sharing pockets of lives that people can share
11:41with you and it's so magical because you can't do that any other time yeah so yeah i think you
11:46know
11:46big respect for anyone that can go on a show like that and speak about it but um i think
11:50it'll have done
11:51worlds of good for andrew himself jack ash so joe and kush really enjoyed themselves on this leg
11:56how do you think the scouse boys have changed i just think even though i was saying about them
12:00you know it feels like they've got the spirit of these 40 year old men who've lived alive you have
12:04to remember that i think they've come a long way since the start with that it was just very much
12:08like mate we're doing this thing how fun whatever and then they've really turned into quite formidable
12:13competitors i feel like yeah we've watched them not to sound like some old patronizing man but i feel
12:17like we've watched them grow up in the space of you know 43 45 days whatever it is so far
12:22um and they're just a joy to watch but at the same time the essence of them hasn't changed at
12:27all it's like they they really started with this raw open-mindedness to everything i think when you're
12:33younger you have a susceptibility to be a little bit like oh i don't know other cultures and because
12:38you don't know it and those boys they just get stuck into anything like it's so great oh i'd love
12:44to
12:44my mom would be go crazy about this i wish i could tell everyone back at home it's just it's
12:47so infectious
12:48so to watch someone enjoying that kind of thing and then the little like scoutsism's been being
12:52like this is boss and i'm like yeah yeah it's boss this is yeah when they're looking at the
12:55at the outfits and they were like they drip hard there's out there man i was like yeah they just
13:02love it like also who knew that they were so musically talented right yeah it wasn't drumsticks
13:08was it it was just like two twigs yeah all of a sudden joe was like so i play the
13:12trombone
13:13yeah wait what and all the twigs we've got that is crazy crazy the throat singing is it's a proper
13:20ancient practice yeah and they use it for a wide variety of things they use it for
13:26luring animals it's first thing they try and get animals using it and they use it to try and
13:31get babies to sleep yeah ain't no baby sleep and listen yeah like you said it's an ancient practice
13:37but it does take years and years to master it's something that they're really really proud of put
13:41that i'm like britain's got talent two notes at once is crazy by the way like that is so
13:47impressive yeah betty katie and harrison uh also had some heart-to-hearts in this episode as well
13:51right and what is it like doing the race with a sibling challenging
13:59it's challenging it's definitely challenging because i mean the thing is with katie and harrison they've
14:04they said they came into it like the one percent top one percent of being siblings me and james were
14:08like the top 75 percent like we didn't speak we didn't you know it was just kind of like oh
14:13my
14:14older brother's not here oh i have a younger brother let's do the race together do you know
14:17whereas it's like these two like the bonds that they have and the fact that their bond has got
14:21stronger yeah like big respect i mean when she introduced and she's like yeah we go singing and
14:25dancing together if me and james saw each other out in town we'd be like avoid i contact believe
14:30don't come near me yeah who are you so even though i can relate that they've done it with a
14:34sibling
14:34like can't relate that they're that close but i just absolutely love their bond and yeah i just
14:38think race does give you that you know extra level of your relationship no matter who you do it with
14:43now it's time for the return of one star reviews it's quite simply uh i'm just going to read some
14:49genuine one star reviews and then you guys just have to basically decipher where this location
14:54they're talking about is okay uh so let's go in with the first one it's an easy one to tick
14:58off
14:58with uh boring it's a lump of metal in the ground next to the motorway where's that
15:04angel of the north you're going eiffel tower jack you're saying angel of the north oh yeah that's
15:09a good one the next clue there is keep going and check out the penshore monument in zunderland
15:14angel of the north yeah yeah that's the boring the boring alum for metal um uh scarlet moffat's
15:23contender for the eighth wonder of the world as she said uh the angel of north that is the correct
15:26time so that's one from one that's very good very good right next one uh i risked my life for
15:31a
15:31stupid picture think about anything instagramable like something yeah like that swing that people go
15:37on that looks like you're off the end of the world wherever that is is it yeah i don't think
15:41it's
15:42famous one instagram all that crazy zip line yeah that's like the biggest one in the world that
15:46you do nice where's that one who knows but i feel like anywhere's risking you like like if you take
15:51a photo with the lean and tara pisa if someone barges into you you've risked your life aren't you
15:56you know what i mean like anywhere's unsafe if you for those of the guys to see
15:59all right the other clue is uh i need to ask another person to risk their life to take a
16:03picture of me and
16:04my family so somebody else is also whoever is taking the picture is also risking their life
16:11can you give us a third clue zebra crossing crossing a safari uh it's the most lethal
16:19zebra crossing ever created abbey road in london oh for crying out loud that's what i'm saying
16:26i would leave a one-star review of that play that was my review
16:35i'm not very good at it right it's the next one um once you've seen one room you've seen them
16:42all
16:42they are overdone and gaudy sounds like my house yeah yeah that's just house renovation
16:50ikea
16:53who's leaving one story about ikea yeah you're right actually five stars for the meatballs
16:57actually i'm weird there are enough pictures of louis to make you gag so the big fancy french
17:02house louis the however many 16th 14th or something is it
17:05how what maybe there's something or other we're on to something go on yeah the palace like palace
17:11of versailles yeah
17:17okay the final one right this is a tough one nature is crap
17:23that's it good that's it the amazon rainforest
17:26no can you leave a review for that yeah i don't think so you could try
17:32that's probably just that's someone with hay fever that's just stuck inside really really
17:37annoyed right now that's just like nature's crap
17:42just an overblown sandy ditch
17:46brown canyon
17:51that's it 277 miles long one mile deep
17:57that is crazy well done guys three out of four yeah congrats congrats
18:01you're not very happy with that
18:03cut that one out we've got three out of three
18:05this is not changing all right thank you guys for playing and for all of you at home as well
18:11if you
18:11have visited a famous landmark abroad and it just doesn't quite live up to expectations and you
18:15want to rant about it tell us on whatsapp just message us on oh eight thousand four eight seven
18:19three eight seven now it's time to return to episode seven it is only fair that i think that we
18:24revisit the moment that katie and harrison take in the local festivities how was that that was the
18:29best experience ever yeah i'm an absolute disaster on the dance floor your turn that's not
18:36afternoon i can't dance it's no please katie katie on this trip i've had to speak to running people
18:42stay in people's houses i have not felt anxiety in my chest like this once this is your song it's
18:48not
18:48my song okay okay okay where does this go same one oh where are we going it's like he's being
19:03held
19:03against us we need some wd-40 on them here it's a big time
19:09those jokes i mean fair play to them both for like getting stuck in like going on that dance
19:14for betty if that was you and james like who do you reckon would be on the dance floor first
19:17james yeah especially if he's had a beer but he loves a good boogie on a dance floor so yeah
19:21he would be up there that's okay i'm getting flashbacks as well to like the school disco
19:25jack ash who do you reckon would be the most adventurous out of you two yeah who would be
19:30the katie would be harrison so ash has that gene where she thinks anything that she puts her mind
19:35to she can do you know like she'll watch the olympics and be like oh yeah 500 meter sprint like
19:39give me a week and i could beat usain bolt like that's however i'm the opposite i watch stuff and
19:44i'm like that is such a feat of like human endurance so there's no way i could ever achieve that
19:49right
19:49you definitely throw caution to the wind more than more than i do yeah but then you do you try
19:53everything that's why we're bad when we travel together because we just end up in
19:58all sorts of stuff because i like rules and regulations ash doesn't so we were in brazil
20:01for new year and they were like the waves are really bad don't go in the water at the moment
20:04she's like how bad can it be i'm just going to go in the water i was like you're going
20:07to die like
20:07get out of the water yeah me how tall are you four eleven yeah that's wild confidence wild
20:13confidence diving into those waves in my head i'm moana yeah so i'm like obviously i'll grow gills and
20:19just be fine i don't be weird i don't think moana grows gills well have you not seen it hybrid
20:23hybrid moana moana three that i've not seen yet you don't know about it yet soon to come sorry
20:31i mean right so as well as obviously the dancing and getting stuck into that culture there was a lot
20:35of memorable cuisine throughout this episode as well what's been your most out there culinary
20:40experience would you say like when you've been on your travels where are you oh god oh morocco
20:45tajines and they just crazy i just came back from now well i don't eat meat they just get
20:49giving bojack meat so then they'll be like yes this is vegetarian and it just wasn't and i'd be like
20:55hmm this sausage is delicious but also like the the good thing with the tajine is obviously it's been
21:01cooking for hours and you're slow that falls off the bone with the meat you don't want a slow
21:04cooked pee for 12 hours because you eat it and it's just like this in your mouth that's funny i
21:10mean
21:10horses like played a big part in in the culture out there in mongolia you guys have had an
21:15experience with a horse right jack and ash yeah we were in we went on a night out which is
21:21how
21:21every story of us yeah right we were in mexico and we met this really nice bloke in a club
21:27and
21:27became good friends with him and then as the sun was coming he was like um oh i've got horses
21:31do you
21:31want to go up to like our family ranch up in the hills we were like yeah you could only
21:34get there by
21:35horseback so straight after the club on the night out we got yeah it was 6 a.m okay so
21:39we got on these
21:40horses and went up to his family house up in the mountains and it was the most beautiful yeah it
21:46was just one of those things where you know where you were saying about you've got to get
21:48involved with whatever they offer you it was the epitome of that like there's no negative to the
21:52story we were just like wow of course we're like we were i mean we're a bit tipsy so it
21:56wasn't ideal
21:56being on the back of a horse don't recommend but we did have a great time and it was just
22:01like
22:01sick that's just such a nice thing to show like the human condition of people just being kind and
22:06nice and i was just getting on we still chat to him and he and he took the whole day
22:09off rodrigo
22:10we love rodrigo he took the whole day off work and it was my birthday as well so he was
22:14like this
22:14is my birthday present to you and we're looking at each other i'm turning around jack's on this
22:18stallion and i'm thinking what's going on we went out for a margarita i don't know how this happened
22:23i was doing my duolingo as well because it had nearly run out
22:28it was crazy and he bought you a little toy tortoise yeah i've still got it i know friends all
22:33over the
22:34world but what was your most memorable homestay i mean it probably has to be the infamous passport
22:39gate um homestay where we were staying in a lovely house realized we left the passports on the bus
22:44didn't think we were going to get any further um where did you put them like how does everybody
22:51lose their passport yeah it was in my bum bag it had everything i mean i've done it since off
22:55the
22:55race as well yeah everything in and i left the whole bum bag on the bus so i mean that
23:02poor lady she
23:02got it back for us and we could continue the race and then alphie knowing got ahead 24 hours you
23:07know we would have been in front of that since then it's just all history but yeah that's not the
23:12saying is it that's not the same well it's just all history that sounds like a true winner that's just
23:19history i meant to say the rest is history and forgot the saying um jack ash there seems to be
23:26a lot of
23:27negotiating to help the teams get that little bit further throughout this race um how would
23:32you say that your negotiating skills are when you're traveling bartering getting it down getting
23:37lifts you do everything with an air of cheekiness this is like my mantra and delight you just
23:43smile on your face smile and wave yeah and you just find whatever the local translation version of
23:48is can i be a little bit cheeky here yeah so you just you find out what that translation is
23:53and
23:53it opens so many doors because they're like okay yeah yeah fine i think um you you do like to
24:01back
24:01your eyelashes that works quite well i think with the right kinds of people it doesn't work so well
24:05on like abuelas like i i really clock in when it's like an older woman you can read so we
24:11kind of we
24:11kind of actually can tick off quite a lot of demographics between us being like hang on i'll
24:15take this one yeah yeah and then it's some like bloke who owns a club and i'm like i'll stay
24:19outside
24:20it's like we lead a lift somewhere i am just a tiny girl she goes she goes i'm just a
24:25damsel i'm just
24:26a damsel yeah now sometimes on this show we hear some travel tales fails and hacks from you and
24:34sometimes we hear from the former racers and today we have got the wonderful sean ed and finn hello detour
24:39i'm finn and i'm sean ed and we were on series five of race across the world and in our
24:44series we
24:44actually went to india which was very overwhelming for me as you probably saw but we have actually since
24:49been back and we've seen the taj mahar and we have a question for you if you could go back
24:53to any
24:53country from previous series what country would it be that's crazy that's a good question where would
24:59you go to if you had to go to any other country if you were doing race across the world
25:03well i loved
25:05the south america route i just think that was i mean i've done central america mexico but south america
25:10yeah 100 is top of my list what about you guys i think south america i'm so anywhere that takes
25:15us
25:15yeah to brazil anywhere that will take us anywhere full stop because we've actually had quite a lot
25:20of visas the right route at this stage i am i traveled around south america for a few months um
25:26at the olympics in 2016 and just fell in love with it so i keep trying to take her to
25:31different
25:31countries in south america so i totally agree i just think south american people are just the most
25:36gorgeous welcoming spanish is such a beautiful language it just yeah it's just great and they've got a
25:42better angels than off there haven't they yeah yeah that's how you're going to describe it but
25:47you betty said that not me yeah i didn't know i say that um what about you you've traveled to
25:52so
25:53many 92 93 now because of peru because because you went to go get a haircut peru yeah 93 go
25:59on
26:00mongolia mongolia have you been there before no okay so you would love to go there yeah what they're
26:04doing is my dream yeah i love it so you're sitting there at home going oh i'm sorry when the
26:09root came
26:09out i had a tantrum um right now remember if you've got a travel tail fail or a hack that
26:16you'd
26:16love to share with us then please do just whatsapp us on oh eight thousand four eight seven three eight
26:20seven alf i can see your jacket it's locked and loaded you're ready to go and it's now time for
26:25your penultimate optimal route olgi to hahorin your race starts now right for this leg i'm going to go
26:32south although there is a paved highway that stretches along the northern part of the country between
26:36ulangom and hahorin the south of the country offers a lot more in terms of detours first you
26:41need to get down from olgi down to altai now that's a 660 kilometer route that will take you along
26:46the
26:46southern part of the country and should largely be paved allowing for a much smoother start to your trip
26:50now you are going to have to rely on your own charm to get you between these points but the
26:54good news
26:55is that this route is one of the busiest in western mongolia now as you've seen in this episode
26:59prices for these trips can vary wildly so make sure you know what price you're comfortable paying and be
27:04prepared to do a bit of haggling who would take the reign in mongolia yeah me oh see i think
27:09the
27:09opposite all right you no i'm 50 50 chance i get it right i think the minute they said i
27:16think the
27:16minute they showed you a map and they said here's the map but honestly it doesn't work i would have
27:21had to go right we're doing this with whimsy because yeah yeah okay yeah let's let's pause that
27:25just think about ever doing the show all right just take a second continue so also if you do end
27:30up
27:31hitchhiking with a local remember to ask them what sort of price they're expecting for the trip
27:34right at the start now along that southern route you'll be driving through small towns and sparse
27:38but beautiful landscapes in addition to the camels who bought mark and margot so much joy see if you
27:43can spot endangered saiga antelope which is recognizable by their round bulbous nose now the
27:48hunting has put these species on the brink of extinction but conservation efforts have increased
27:51their numbers to over 50 000. once you get to altite you'll have a chance to rest and recuperate so
27:56explore the town because there's a beautiful monastery plus they have a local cinema which
28:00is that's it which is cool project hail mary that's nice nice utilizing local cabs minivans and helpful
28:09locals continue your road trip along the highway until you get to bayern hongor it's a lively bustling
28:14town filled with cafes and local markets so it's the perfect place to immerse yourself in the local
28:18culture and try some of those native cuisines and whilst you're in the area there's a detour that's well
28:22worth making at 69 kilometers south of town you'll find the chargol jute hot springs which is a small
28:27spa resort where you can soak in the naturally heated mineral waters that mongolians have been
28:30using for thousands of years you can even stay there and spend some time enjoying the on-site
28:34activities including sports fireworks and karaoke get your mongolian throat singing voices ready
28:41once you're done make your way back to the town and continue along the highway to arvaqir from this
28:46settlement you'll have to come off the highway and take dirt roads all the way up to harhorin
28:50a journey of around 150 kilometers but you'll see scenery that you're not going to be able to see
28:54anywhere else on the planet that was easy wasn't it now make sure you rest up because the final leg
28:59could be the most challenging in race across the world history alfie watts everyone i just can't
29:06well done man um and finally it is that time where i get to reveal to you a super exclusive
