00:00Your Philadelphia 76ers still reeling from the sweep at the hands of the New York Knicks.
00:04Had a meeting, I guess, yesterday or the night before.
00:09Ownership met with Darryl Morey, who's obviously the general manager.
00:13He got fired.
00:15So Nick Nurse survives, the head coach of the 76ers, but the general manager is now out.
00:21There's not a lot of defending, to be fair, the moves that Morey made since you went to Philadelphia.
00:27And for those of you that don't know the history of it, as I understand it, you know better than
00:30me for sure.
00:31Morey was brought there because he's a Harden guy.
00:35Yeah.
00:35And when James Harden went to Philadelphia, it was almost like a package deal.
00:39That was also during us.
00:41There were some other minority owners at the time, not just Josh Howers, the main owner, who were very close
00:46with James Harden.
00:47Yes.
00:48And made sure that his guy was there.
00:50Okay, that's all well and good.
00:52They traded Ben Simmons for him.
00:53I remember Ben Simmons was booked at.
00:55Which, by the way, solid deal.
00:56That was a great trade, even despite the result.
00:59When you put the kind of money you put into Paul George, knowing that Paul George is never going to
01:04play more than 50 games in a season.
01:05Although we didn't see the PED thing coming this year, to be fair about it.
01:09And you know that Joel Embiid, you've got like $190 million committed to him.
01:13He doesn't play more than 40, 50 games a season, unfortunately.
01:17And you get swept by a hated rival.
01:20And that hated rival also takes over your building.
01:23Somebody has got to get fired.
01:25So, the Sixers decided it was going to be someone in the front office and not the head coach, which
01:31tells me that Joel Embiid likes Nick Nurse.
01:34That's what it says to me.
01:35It's not just that, though.
01:36Joel Embiid does like Daryl Morey.
01:38The issue is Josh Harris, the owner, put him in this tough spot, Daryl Morey, where they hover around the
01:47luxury tax.
01:47And just to give people, just to reiterate, the Knicks are spending an additional $44 million, $44.4 million more
01:56than the Sixers this season.
01:58With the luxury tax.
01:58With the luxury tax.
01:59Because the owner says, I want to win, period.
02:02Right.
02:02In the case of Daryl Morey's entire tenure, it was, I want to win, comma, if it doesn't cost you.
02:08Which is why John McClain, McCain got traded to Oklahoma City.
02:12Right.
02:12That was not a move based on talent.
02:14No.
02:14That was a move based on get under the luxury tax.
02:17And oh, by the way, just quick sidebar.
02:19He's killing it at Oklahoma City.
02:21Right.
02:21On a team that had no holes, he's getting on the court and playing meaningful minutes.
02:26And he's been killing it, especially behind the arc, and might very well win a championship this year.
02:30Right.
02:31And when you add that, you have a city now where Daryl Morey could not have come back.
02:35They could not bring him back.
02:37They don't blame Nick Nurse overall.
02:39And because Joel Embiid, I know people don't like him, but because he sucked it up and played after the
02:45appendix surgery,
02:46they don't blame Joel Embiid directly.
02:49The person they blamed was they looked at the Knicks roster and all that depth.
02:53And they look at the Sixers roster where they went nine quarters in which they got zero points from their
02:59bench in this playoff series.
03:00And they go, that's the GM's fault.
03:02He's gots to go.
03:04And that's what happened.
03:05Yeah.
03:05So that's what it just shows you.
03:07There's always going to be a scapegoat.
03:08And there should be, by the way.
03:09Like Philadelphia in the Joel Embiid era.
03:12And he's not going to get blamed for it now.
03:14At some point, I'm sure there's some Sixers fans that are divided on them.
03:17No, they're mad at my previous.
03:18They're not mad at them this year.
03:19Yeah.
03:20He's never gotten past the second round.
03:23Like, let that sink in.
03:24He's an all-time great player, Joel Embiid, when he plays.
03:26MVP, all that stuff.
03:27He stole the MVP from Joker, as we know.
03:30That was a race thing, which I don't want to get into right now.
03:32It was not a race thing.
03:34It was like, we got to give the black guy one because the white guys won back-to-back.
03:37So with LeBron.
03:37I can't give that guy three straight.
03:39That is a weird whole thing.
03:41Steve Nash's two didn't have nothing to do with race.
03:43100% it did.
03:44Oh, good.
03:45By the way, I'm very consistent on this.
03:47Oh, good.
03:47Steve Nash won both MVPs.
03:49Not just the second one.
03:51Because we wanted a white guy to win it.
03:52All right.
03:53I'm with you on that.
03:54All right.
03:55Yeah.
03:55Like, we don't talk a lot about race here, nor should we.
03:58But that was like, yo, Joker's got three.
04:00We ain't going to give it to anybody else?
04:02I mean, somebody else got what we want?
04:04Anybody else?
04:05Not for nothing.
04:06The brothers have been carrying this sport.
04:08We just going to give them all to the Euros?
04:11We comfortable with this?
04:12Yeah.
04:12By the way, if Joker was an American white guy, it would have been Armageddon if he won
04:19a third straight.
04:20Anyway, the point is that Joel Embiid's never gotten past the Eastern semis.
04:26Like, let that sink in for a second.
04:27While Jalen Brunson and the Knicks are now in back-to-back Eastern Conference Finals,
04:32and obviously we'll see what they do against Cleveland or Detroit, Joel Embiid and the
04:36Sixers have never gotten to one Eastern Conference Final.
04:40They've never gotten past the second round, which is really fascinating considering all
04:45the talent that's actually gone through there in the last seven or eight years.
04:48They've never advanced to an Eastern Conference Final.
04:51But Joel Embiid's not going to go anywhere.
04:53He's got three years locked in on the contract.
04:55It's untradable deal.
04:56For $190 million, nobody wants that.
04:58Nobody wants it.
04:58I saw one for Gazi trade earlier this morning.
05:01This didn't make any sense.
05:02For Embiid.
05:04But again, it was a bonus for Embiid.
05:06Yeah, and the problem is, let's say...
05:08If that money doesn't work, none of it works.
05:09Yeah.
05:10Again, it's an untradable contract, so you're sitting there going, okay, this is what we
05:14have.
05:14How do we try to get the most out of it?
05:16You can't.
05:17You can't.
05:17Even though he doesn't have no trade clause either.
05:20But the money's just too much for a guy that never plays.
05:22Right.
05:22But so, Darryl Morey, out.
05:25And here's what's funny about it.
05:26I don't know that he gets a job right away.
05:30He's probably made a lot of money.
05:32Yeah.
05:32So money's not an issue for him.
05:33But it's interesting that he gets scapegoated in Philadelphia, where I know a lot of Sixers
05:38fans would like to scapegoat Josh Harris.
