00:00The Sixers-Knicks game, you know, sometimes real life takes over sports,
00:03and you have to be respectful of that.
00:05You guys in Philadelphia, sadly, are dealing with the reality that Nick Nurse,
00:09I think you guys like a lot.
00:11We do, yeah.
00:12I think he was on the hot seat maybe earlier this year.
00:15Yeah, he's good now.
00:16Regardless of what happens, he's good now.
00:17Obviously, he's won a championship.
00:19He's a very good coach.
00:20Nick Nurse, sadly, lost his brother unexpectedly.
00:24His brother was 62 years old.
00:25Right before game six against the Celtics.
00:27Oh, I didn't know that.
00:28I thought it just happened like two days ago yesterday.
00:30No, and he kept it like.
00:33Kept it quiet.
00:34Yeah, he kept it quiet.
00:35So, you're telling me that he coached game six and seven against the Celtics
00:40with a heavy heart having lost his brother unexpectedly
00:44and game one against the Knicks a couple nights ago.
00:47And I guess he flew out to, I think it's Iowa?
00:49Yeah.
00:50Did I see that correctly?
00:50It is.
00:51For the funeral.
00:52Yeah.
00:52Wow.
00:54So, obviously, the team must have known about it.
00:56Yeah.
00:56Going into game six and seven.
00:58And look, we dislike each other as teams, right?
01:01As cities even.
01:02Nick Nurse seems like a really good guy.
01:05Yeah.
01:05And as much as I want the Knicks to sweep the Sixers,
01:08obviously, send prayers and thoughts to Nick Nurse and his family.
01:12He is now coaching the Sixers with, obviously, a very heavy heart.
01:16Yeah.
01:17I mean, I can't imagine it.
01:18As anybody, if you're close with your sibling, like, I couldn't imagine him doing it.
01:21And, obviously, the playoffs, you're going to do it.
01:24But I just don't know how he found the fortitude to be so into it.
01:28Maybe it distracted him.
01:29Maybe.
01:29I know it's kind of a cliche thing to say.
01:31No, you could be right.
01:32And I don't know about the brother's side.
01:35You know, if he had a wife and other people taking care of the funeral arrangements and all that.
01:37He has a wife.
01:38He has a wife and kid.
01:39But don't be surprised tonight.
01:41And I think Philly would do this as well.
01:43I do.
01:43I think Boston would also.
01:45As much as we have fun and we take shots at each other and we bust each other's balls,
01:48I will not be surprised as Nick fans learn about what's going on, excuse me, with Nick Nurse,
01:56if he doesn't get a standing ovation tonight.
01:58Or at least some smattering of applause as Nick fans put their dislike of Philly aside for a second
02:05and acknowledge that Nick Nurse is a human being going through something that sadly most of us have experienced
02:12at some level in our lives.
02:13Maybe not a brother, but certainly a family member.
02:16And I will do not be surprised.
02:18I don't think they announced the head coaches before every game.
02:22They might.
02:23I think afterwards they go, hey, coach, like real quick.
02:26Don't be shocked if the Nick fan acknowledges that Nick Nurse is hurting.
02:30That would be a great gesture.
02:32And I think Philly would do that too.
02:32I agree with that.
02:33That would be a great gesture.
02:35Now, the only thing Nick Nurse has asked, because people had reached out to him
02:38when he finally decided to talk about it, his brother was involved in this big charity
02:42that basically has fed 20,000 low-income families in central Iowa.
02:48We just put it up on the screen right there.
02:49Yeah, it's on the screen right there.
02:50It's impactcap.org.
02:53You can see it on the screen, but if you're listening, impactcap.org.
02:57He asked that people donate to that.
02:59No flowers, no that stuff.
03:00No, don't send flowers.
03:01All that stuff.
03:02That's what he wanted.
03:02Apparently, his brother, who was a coach at Northern Iowa for a long time, university there,
03:07that was a group that was near and dear with him.
03:09And apparently, he had been there the week before he passed away.
03:12So, he got to see him?
03:13No, no.
03:14I'm talking about...
03:14Oh, his brother who passed away was at the charity.
03:16Was at that organization.
03:17And that was something he did.
03:18And they feed low-income families in his native life.
03:21My gut is that that charity is going to be overwhelmed with donations now.
03:25Yeah.
03:25Because the NBA community will come together.
03:27I'm sure our friend, the Sixers' owners, are going to do the right thing for their family.
03:32You know, it also brings me back.
03:34You know, one of the excuses that the Philadelphia media was making on behalf of the Sixers' poor performance in
03:40game one against the Knicks was the emotional, I guess, expense of forcing a game seven against the Celtics.
03:48And then winning that game, one day off, have to pivot real quick.
03:53I wonder if they were alluding to that.
03:55Now, I'm not even sure if people in Philly knew about this.
03:58No, not...
03:58Because it seems like the Sixers and Nick Nurse and the family kept it very private.
04:04So, there's a chance the players didn't know.
04:05I imagine they probably did.
04:08But the media didn't know.
04:09No, the media did not know.
04:10He kept it close to the vest.
04:11I believe the players did know, but they all respected his wishes.
04:15Yeah, like keep your lip tight.
04:16And it also shows you the respect that he has that it didn't leak.
04:20When things crazy happen, and this happened to be negative, and people are quiet, it usually shows you what the
04:25people really think about the individual when they keep it seen.
04:28Yeah.
04:29I'm going to say something that is going to make people angry with me.
04:34And I don't mean...
04:34I'm not saying it for people to get angry at me.
04:37Because I want to be very clear.
04:39I feel for Nick Nurse.
04:40I respect Nick Nurse.
04:42I think the Nick crowd...
04:43I'll beat the game tonight.
04:44I will give him a round of applause if his name is announced or he's introduced to the crowd.
04:49Because I think that's what normal people do.
04:52And then I hope we win by 50.
04:54Oh, that's fine.
04:55I want to be very clear about that.
04:56That's fine.
04:57I'm not going to feel bad gloating if the Knicks blow your sorry asses out of you.
05:03Not going to happen.
05:04I just want to be clear about that.
05:05But I agree with that.
05:06I don't think this will make me a bad guy.
05:07And I want the Knicks to be at their best.
05:08And I want the Sixers to beat them.
05:11I might even do a little dance.
05:12A little Irish jig.
05:14Walking out of the garden tonight.
