Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in India for key BRICS meetings as discussions intensify over reducing global dependence on the U.S. dollar. The visit comes amid growing calls from BRICS nations to expand trade in local currencies and reshape parts of the international financial system.

Analysts say the bloc is increasingly seeking alternatives to dollar-dominated transactions amid rising geopolitical tensions and sanctions pressures. Lavrov’s meetings in India are expected to focus on economic cooperation, strategic partnerships, and efforts to strengthen BRICS influence in global markets and institutions.

01:00My dear friend, it's indeed a pleasure to be here again and to continue the dialogue
01:05which is ongoing.
01:07The leaders meet annually and the last summit was here in Delhi in December last year.
01:16It was crowned by quite a number of important agreements, including the program until the
01:24year 2030, the program on strategic areas of our economic cooperation.
01:31The trade is almost 60 billion dollars, if we count in dollars, of course.
01:39And the goal which the leaders set for 2030 is 100 billion.
01:45And I have no doubt that this goal would be achieved.
01:48The Intergovernmental Commission, which you co-chair with Deputy Prime Minister Manturov,
01:56is actively functioning.
02:00And at all levels, the cooperation is based on sustained structures, which certainly is
02:10helpful for long-term planning and for achieving results.
02:14This includes foreign ministry to ministry cooperation, which we now emphasize by this bilateral meeting
02:26at the margins of the ministerial meeting of BRICS, which is going to take place tomorrow
02:31and the day after.
02:34We cooperate in the United Nations, of course, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, G20, which
02:45is becoming more important at the time when we have to find global answers to global problems.
02:54The problems are created not by all of us, but to resolve them, we have to join our efforts
03:01including in BRICS and in Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
03:06So I value very much this opportunity to touch base and to take a look at our bilateral and
03:14international matters on our agenda.
03:18As always, we enjoy the hospitality of our Indian friends.
03:22Thank you very much.
