00:00Calls for mutual respect were reiterated throughout the Africa Forward Summit on Tuesday in Nairobi, co-hosted by Kenya and
00:07France.
00:07Kenyan President William Ruto insisted that the days of European dependency were finished for Africa,
00:13and that mutual respect between cooperating nations was the way ahead.
00:18We reiterate with clarity and conviction the urgent necessity of reforming global peace and security governance,
00:28particularly the United Nations Security Council.
00:32It is both indefensible and unconscionable that a continent of nearly 1.5 billion people,
00:41represented by 54 sovereign states and constituting one of the largest blocs within the United Nations,
00:50continues to remain excluded from permanent representation on the Security Council.
00:57French President Emmanuel Macron outlined his view for the future partnership at the summit.
01:05At its heart, the partnership we envision for this Africa Forward Summit,
01:09the partnership I believe in between Africa and Europe,
01:12is one that serves peace, prosperity and our shared strategic autonomy and independence.
01:17This is a powerful vision.
01:19If we succeed, it will allow us to fundamentally rebuild a multilateral order
01:24that has been so deeply shaken and weakened,
01:27an order whose decline affects us all.
01:31Ultimately, this partnership can become a source of hope and a future for everyone.
01:41During the summit, Emmanuel Macron also announced investments worth 23 billion euros
01:46for various sectors on the continent, including AI, energy and agriculture.
