00:00Hey guys, it's Mee-Anne.
00:02Did you know the average American uses just 20% of their closet, buys 64 new pieces of
00:09clothing and throws away 70 pounds of textiles yearly?
00:12I have a crazy amount of clothing.
00:17This week, I've decided to rethink the items that I wear daily by challenging myself to
00:23choose seven pieces of clothing and style them into seven different outfits.
00:27This isn't going to be your run-of-the-mill minimalist wardrobe though.
00:33Don't get me wrong, I love a good basic, but I want to show you guys that you can love
00:37color,
00:38you can love texture, you can love prints, you can love trends without having a closet
00:44that's bursting at the seams.
00:46I'm choosing seven pieces and I'm going to divide them up into trend pieces and basics.
00:51I have four trend pieces and they all harken back to spring-summer 2019 Fashion Week trends.
00:56The first of which is a Bermuda suit combo.
00:59So I saw a bunch of Bermuda suit combos at shows like Dion Lee, Emilia Wickstead, and Tibby.
01:05The second item is a tie-dye tee.
01:07So we saw a lot of tie-dye at shows like Prada, Stella McCartney.
01:11Next up is a bright mustard orange top inspired loosely by the neon orange ensembles I saw at
01:17Carolina Herrera, Christian Cohen, and Oscar de la Renta.
01:21The final trend is probably my favorite and it is Teva sandals.
01:26And we saw them at Sandy Liang, John Elliott.
01:29So I'm going to wear these as my only shoe item for the entire week.
01:33But I couldn't just have a wardrobe full of trend pieces.
01:36I also went with a few basics.
01:38One dress.
01:39It's a white tent dress in a linen fabric, very breathable and flowy.
01:43A lilac wrap skirt and a black blazer.
01:47I am no fashion connoisseur.
01:50So before going into this week, I decided that it would be in my best interest to talk to my
01:55friend Michelle.
01:56Michelle Lee is a stylist, she's also a fashion editor.
01:59So Michelle gave me some really, really great styling tips, threw in a couple of kind of weird
02:03out there styling techniques.
02:05One really good way to do it is just by cinching it in the back, like you tie it up
02:11in a knot
02:11at the bottom of the hem.
02:13How crazy would it be if you style something over the blazer?
02:16So maybe you should try that.
02:17A lot of people have been doing like the scarves as tops and I feel like like a silky wrapped
02:22skirt is just like a longer version of that.
02:25You chose really good items and they're going to be really versatile.
02:28So I guess there's been enough rambling and we should just get into it.
02:37Hey guys, so it is day one and we're starting off with a bang.
02:41I'll show you.
02:41This is the outfit.
02:44There's a little bit of tie dye underneath here and then I'm going to pair it with Tevas,
02:49which might be a controversial topic.
02:51Let me know in the comments below if you would wear Tevas.
02:54So this is day one.
03:00I love this Bermuda suit.
03:02It is so comfortable.
03:03It has a great structure, kind of 80s style shoulder pads.
03:08Wearing the tie dye shirt underneath it though makes it so fun.
03:11It gives it a little bit of color, a pop, an edge, brings it a little bit out of the
03:15workwear realm.
03:16I think it's so cute.
03:18I got so many compliments on the tie dye shirt blazer combination.
03:30All right.
03:31Day two, reimagining the Bermuda shorts.
03:36This is the fit, same Bermuda shorts paired with the orange one shoulder top and then the
03:43tie dye shirt kind of wrapped around as a pop of color and also can act as a pseudo jacket
03:49if I'm out, I'm cold.
03:50So this is the look.
03:53I love day two's outfit.
03:56It was so fun.
03:57It was so comfortable.
03:57Tying the tie dye shirt around the waist gives it a little hint of color.
04:01It makes it a little bit more fun and creative and the tie dye shirt comes in handy.
04:07If I got cold, I would just slap it on over top in lieu of a jacket.
04:19Good morning, everyone.
04:21It is day three of the outfit challenge and wearing something a little more on the springy
04:28side today, a wrap skirt with the orange top.
04:32I really love wrap skirts.
04:35They are so easy to have in your closet.
04:37You can throw them on under things.
04:38They layer really well.
04:39They layer well over things and I'm going to be on my way.
04:47This is a pretty neutral outfit.
04:48But I think one that I can definitely see myself wearing over and over again.
04:52Like on a Saturday, going to the farmer's market, going to get groceries.
04:55Just sitting on my balcony drinking coffee.
04:57So it was definitely a fun one.
05:11Hello, guys.
05:12We are back with another outfit.
05:15It's a brand new day.
05:16And we are wearing the wrap skirt in a different way.
05:19Here's the look.
05:20I am wearing the white type dress today.
05:23And then I actually layered the wrap skirt over the dress, not only to cinch in the waist
05:28a bit, but to give it a pop of color, a little bit of a textural difference.
05:31And then I threw the blazer on over it just to make it look a little work appropriate.
05:37See y'all later.
05:43We are halfway through this trend challenge and I gotta say, I am not tired of the clothing yet.
05:50I like this look a lot.
05:51I think that it feeds into my love of boxier shapes and structures.
05:55But the wrap skirt being a different fabric helps add a bit of textural intrigue as well.
06:12Hey guys, we are back with the fifth outfit today.
06:15Wearing the tie-dye shirt again, which I am realizing is just one of my favorite pieces that I chose
06:21for this challenge.
06:22It is so fun.
06:23It's so bright.
06:24It makes me feel so happy to put it on.
06:26So here we are, tie-dye shirt layered over the white tent dress.
06:30I decided to crop it by folding it and then tied it in the back.
06:34Excited to wear it.
06:39Day five.
06:40I really liked this dress look.
06:43I think pairing the tie-dye shirt with the dress, since the dress is so minimal and basic, just made
06:48it more fun.
06:49Like adding tie-dye to anything just makes everything more fun.
06:53That's just the takeaway from the entire week.
06:55Styling tip number one.
06:56When in doubt, throw some tie-dye over it.
07:05Hello guys.
07:06Back with the second to last day of the challenge.
07:10I am wearing the wrap skirt again, but this time as a top.
07:17If you didn't know this was a skirt, I think you would just think it's a top.
07:21Let me show you.
07:22Boom.
07:23This is what we're working with.
07:24Really like the top.
07:26I basically just tied it in the back very tightly.
07:29You can add a pin if you want to make sure that it's like not going to move anywhere, but
07:33it's pretty secure.
07:34Then I tucked the rest of the skirt into the Bermuda shorts.
07:37And because the wrap skirt is a very thin material, it tucked really easily.
07:41You can't see it peeking out or anything like that.
07:47I'm really proud of the way this one came out.
07:50I think the outfit came out super, super cute.
07:53I wore it out to a dinner.
07:55It didn't fall down.
07:56I saw a couple of people that day and they could not tell that it was a wrap skirt.
08:00I think that if you do it properly and you tuck in your skirt enough, it looks like it's just
08:04a nice flowy textured tube top.
08:14Hey guys, so we are on the final day of the challenge.
08:18I've got kind of the craziest outfit of the week on right now.
08:22So this is what we're working with.
08:24I really like it.
08:27When Michelle told me that this blazer might look cool with a top layered over it,
08:32I was like, you're crazy.
08:33This is not going to look good.
08:35I really like it.
08:36So what I did was I took the blazer and I wrapped it quite tightly around my body,
08:41pinned it on the side so that it stayed put and then put this orange one shoulder top over it
08:48as a layering piece.
08:49And I think it looks really awesome.
09:00I would never have thought that a blazer could be anything more than a blazer.
09:05But if my friendship with Michelle has showed me anything,
09:09it's that if you have the creativity and the tenacity to go for random things,
09:13you can make some really cool outfits if you just push yourself there.
09:26I think that this entire week of outfits has shown me that waking up and forcing yourself to rethink the
09:36items that you have in your closet
09:38is a really fun way to creatively challenge yourself.
09:42Do I think this is something that I'm going to do every single day for the rest of my life?
09:47Realistically, no.
09:48But I think that now that I know that I can do this,
09:51now that I've seen how you can take run-of-the-mill your average clothing pieces
09:57and turn them into something really exciting even though you've had them for years,
10:01I definitely can see myself doing that a little more than I used to.
10:07And that's really all you can ask for.
10:13Thanks so much for watching, guys.
