00:05Hi, I'm Brooke. I'm the chief content officer at Refinery29. It's a hot summer day in Silver
00:10Lake, but we're shooting fall 2025 inside. Let's go check it out. So we are shooting a lot. We're
00:19shooting nails, we're shooting fashion, we're shooting hair, we're shooting makeup, and we've
00:22got incredible mood boards. We've really thought of every single detail to bring you guys the best
00:27of the fall season. Let's go see what they're shooting on set. We've got our incredible
00:34creative team here. Zarina, our incredible stylist. Right now we're shooting beauty, which is my
00:43personal favorite. What's special about having Sir John here is Sir John. He's in his creative
00:47director era, but we got him on set today, which is honestly like such a treat. And the looks he
00:52created are incredible. There's a reason that Sir John is Sir John. What's different for you? I feel
00:56like summer, we're in swimsuits, we're in snow makeup, but then it's fall, it's like it's time
01:00to get dressed again, at least for me. You're not so much dictated by the weather. Time for us to
01:04get
01:04rich again, rich in texture, rich in fabrics, saturated in colors and hues. You get a chance
01:08to really have your personality show. What do you want to draw in? Beauty has the ability to not just
01:13identify who you are, but to pull it in your tribe. You don't really believe in trends when it comes
01:17to
01:17beauty, right? I grew up in the industry in a time where everything is so pressed about what runways or
01:23red carpets can the women or the people look like, or why do we ever teach someone? Their kind of
01:28beauty isn't inside. This look I feel like has so much personality. What inspired you to do this for
01:32fall? What I wanted to do is create contrast. So this spoiled lid is contrast. It kind of reminds me
01:37of Bratz with a little bit of Harlem Edge. Are there any products or shades that are defining fall for
01:42you
01:42right now? The color that is going to be indicative of where we are right now is really driven by
01:46personality. Using your compression as a marker, using your wardrobe as a marker or as a highlighter,
01:50how can you sustain a beautiful look throughout the fall without having to go back to Sephora
01:54or also every weekend? For example, right now I have a tan. I was on vacation and I'm a little
01:57bit red right now, but I want to wear it because it makes me feel like a holiday. Is this
02:01how I'm
02:01supposed to be doing concealer? I like to use a super fluffy brush and then blend. And what this does
02:05is it gives it almost like an airbrush quality. I want to make sure that it dissipates so I'm not
02:09pulling too much product on the skin. If you can see your foundation in the camera lens, it would be
02:13bad for me.
02:15We're pulling from the rotation of the universe today. That's what we're doing. We were really feeling
02:19like the drama of cinema, but trying to give it some kind of nouveau, modern identity. I love the
02:26fact that the eyes are not necessarily super aggressive. 90s does 40s, back in the whole
02:31golden era of Hollywood. Speaking of Hollywood, feline and nostalgia. I love the glamour of the
02:35Regency era Hollywood. It was just so ultimately feminine and it was so exaggerated in features.
02:41Luckily, we had individual bottle lashes. If you don't have lashes or if you don't feel comfortable,
02:45use two different mascaras. Telescopic by L'Oreal or something like that and then go in with
02:49something that has tons of volume. You're separating mascara as your primer. I love how
02:52bold this is. Downtown 88. I love this juxtaposition between the frost and the shimmer. And our model
02:57just really personified everything. The photographer killed it. The celestial beauty. I have these
03:02beautiful pearls to give a nice light reflection. So it's going to be almost like a faux star filter
03:06walking around Manhattan. And then we just made sure we did a soft wash of like a transparent silver
03:12to give it a little bit of a base. And that's it.
03:15With the new season, I'm always looking for manicure inspo. So I was so excited when Brittany Boyce created
03:20these five incredible nail looks that you can literally screenshot, bring it straight to your
03:24manicures and say, I want exactly this. You've seen her work on Kate Hudson, Kim Kardashian, Megan
03:31Fox, Machine Gun Kelly, Brittany. I'm going to start with my personal favorite. The brown jelly nails.
03:36It's a very milky jelly brown. And then I airbrushed the base of it with black. So that part wasn't
03:41see through. And then the tips are airbrushed and like a bluish gray. So the square kind of another
03:46trend that we're going to see more and more for fall. Yeah, definitely. There's just something
03:49about it like makes you feel a little bit cooler. Let's talk about this beautiful airbrushed burgundy
03:54set. I love an aura. I'm obsessed. I put the Prince Albert balls on the sides of the few of
03:59them,
03:59which are kind of cool. One of my favorite trends, you did this beautiful chrome manicure for us.
04:03How should people think about integrating chrome into their nails? I really look at it as like a neutral
04:07that goes with everything. Even if you wear gold, a silver chrome is still so cool. Regular to long
04:12nails to nail art, like chrome is such a vibe. Any tips for people that are nervous to take risks
04:17when it comes to their nails? I mean, like you only live once. They last like two to three weeks.
04:22Do it. Be bold. Corey Marino, who I've been going to, to get my hair done here in LA. Such
04:29a talent.
04:30He works with Jodi Turner-Smith, Zendaya, Natasha Lyonne. He creates incredible hair looks. I think you
04:35all are going to be so inspired by the hair looks that you see from Corey today. What do you
04:38think
04:38is different about ball versus all of the other seasons? Humidity isn't a factor in any of my
04:43options. Also, I think about collars and hats and wool neck pieces and turtleneck. So this is
04:49definitely in Bob territory. It's time to be shorter lengths. It's also like a healthy hair season.
04:53Seasons are starting to get drier. So it's really that time to start focusing on like nourishing the hair.
04:59And what are you excited about for this fall? I feel like we're having this almost resurgence of
05:03worker wear. Office Siren has been around, but I feel as though like people are taking it a little
05:07bit deeper. Hittering out their like specialty style. And not something I'm saying to kind of
05:11dress up and be in that vibe. All right. Well, let's chat about each of these looks. I'm absolutely
05:16obsessed with this modern beehive that you created. The recreation is the permit on your
05:21hair length. And oddly enough, shags and shorter layers work best for this type of styling because
05:27you're not having to hide and tuck ends in places that they shouldn't go. It's like immediate
05:31sexiness without even trying. The hidden bob. It's one of those tricks that hairdressers in my
05:36position would have to just have in their arsenal. But I also feel like it's great for the everyday
05:40woman. Yeah, it's okay. The everyday girl can do this. I think this is my favorite, this braided up
05:45dude. This is super important to me because I just feel like oftentimes braids aren't something
05:50referenced for evening wear or something formal. So it's just really important for me to show the
05:55variation and the range that braids actually have. So this I consider the grunge chignon. A low bun.
06:02Being transitioned into something really, really modern. I think that it's so timeless. I could
06:06see this on a mature woman. I could see this on a younger girl. I could see someone with natural
06:11hair
06:11and someone with smooth hair. I just think it's so versatile. The new wave. I feel like the new wave
06:16is something that's done a lot. But I also feel as though that it's lost its refinement. Everybody's
06:22wearing kind of this beachy. You can kind of cramp. But I want to kind of like show this style
06:25using a flat arm because you're really able to customize that wave. So if you're wanting to
06:29accent cheekbones, like those waves need to be starting there. If you're wanting to accent jaw,
06:34those waves should be starting there.
06:39I'm so excited to get finally dressed for fall. We asked celebrity stylist Serena Akers to create
06:43five capsule looks for us, but using what we already probably have in our closet.
06:48When it comes to updating our look for fall, what accessories should we think about?
06:51I think suede in general is going to be really huge this fall. The darker red tone.
06:56Is this like a color that you think works with everyone, every skin type?
06:59It's all about placement. If you're afraid of color, you may not want to do red at the top.
07:02You're incorporating like a glove, an accessory, a hat tag, you know, on a skirt or a fair
07:07pant. It was like really expensive. And this clutch is just so beautiful.
07:10Speaking of expensive, if you only invest in one thing for fall, what should that thing be?
07:15I think a great jacket, like a beautiful suede jacket.
07:18So like something like this.
07:19Exactly. And also another trend I'm seeing is also the collarless jacket.
07:23Stripes is a huge trend. I think it's really about mixing stripes.
07:26The grunge trend is really where you can bring in the pieces that you already have,
07:30mixing it with some different textures.
07:32You want to love every piece that's in your closet because then when you go to put it on,
07:35you're going to feel your most confident self.
07:39Hi, Refinery29. I'm Zarina Akers, stylist and costume designer. And today I'm going to be walking
07:44you through the looks for the style forecast shoot for fall 2025. For our first look, I wanted to go
07:50for like neo-academia. It's really about like the modern scholar. What I love about it is that you can
07:55incorporate like menswear inspiration. So it's including neckties, but making it young and fresh.
08:02So throwing over a leather bomber, pairing it with really cool jeans. Today we're layering up on
08:08shirting, pairing it with a pleated skirt, then super into a rugby, two different stripes, mixing lines.
08:14So this next look is one of my favorites. It's Luxe Brunch. It's effortless, but it's elevated.
08:20It's all about that texture and details. I really love this like patchwork moto jacket that we're
08:26doing today, but then also mixing plaids. So we have this like plaid skirt, then throw in the
08:32tartan flannel around the waist. It's just like super easy and have fun with it.
08:38Everyone, amazing job. That is a wrap.
