00:00Israeli lawmakers have approved a bill to establish a special tribunal with the power to impose the death penalty on
00:07Palestinians accused of involvement in the October 7th attacks.
00:12The measure passed with overwhelming support, with 93 of the Knesset's 120 lawmakers backing the bill.
00:21The bill was drafted by members of both the governing coalition and the opposition.
00:25Right groups, however, warned the bill could undermine fair trial protections and make it easier to hand down death sentences.
00:33The legislation follows another law passed earlier this year introducing a quasi-mandatory death penalty for Palestinians convicted of certain
00:42terrorism offences in the West Bank.
00:45UN observers and human rights organizations have raised concerns that such measures are discriminatory and could violate international law.
