Queensland’s beleaguered DNA lab could resume testing rape kits within months, speeding up the process for victims. A major backlog has now been cleared after the government sent hundreds of samples overseas for processing.

00:33They've also tested 70% of another 12,000 major crime samples that were caught up in the delays.

00:45It's currently taking up to 60 days to process rape kits overseas.
00:50The state's forensics boss believes his lab in Brisbane could resume testing those kits from as early as July.
00:58Which means that we could be turning around salts within five or ten working days.
