00:00Three options for the Arizona Cardinals,
00:03who many believed would have drafted Ty Simpson maybe somewhere in round one,
00:11and they instead saw Simpson come off the board 13 in division to the LA Rams.
00:18So their options are Jacoby Brissett, minus 330,
00:25Gardner Minshew, plus 420, or Carson Beck at plus 750.
00:33Joe, what stands out to you?
00:35Well, I mean, the fact that, and I understand he put up numbers last year,
00:40but the fact that Jacoby Brissett is still in the conversation is absolutely crazy.
00:46And I understand he put up numbers, but he's a human turnover machine as well.
00:50I mean, he had two strip sacks against Seattle that went for touchdowns for Demarcus Lawrence.
00:56And this team is in a major rebuild now with Jeremiah Love.
01:00You have young talent there.
01:02What do you get out of Marvin Harrison Jr.?
01:04Can he be this elite wide receiver that we believe?
01:07Trey McBride is one of the best tight ends in the NFL,
01:11but this team is in a major rebuild.
01:13They have defensive talent.
01:15Can he coach it up?
01:17Look, if we're talking about those three guys, Minshew, Brissett, and Carson Beck,
01:23you just start Carson Beck and hope for the best.
01:26That is the bottom line.
01:28I mean, but that doesn't mean, Kevin, that I believe Carson Beck is an NFL quarterback.
01:34I'm sorry.
01:35I don't think he is.
01:37I think Carson Beck maybe has the physical attributes, height, weight.
01:41I don't think he's got the arm strength.
01:43I think he throws a flat ball.
01:45I think at times he goes through these mental lapses, especially in big games.
01:50A majority of his throws were in vertical downfield.
01:54It was underneath, you know, on slip screens and hitches.
01:58You know, he needs a wide open pocket.
02:00He's certainly not as mobile as some of the other quarterbacks that we've seen in recent years,
02:05even though he scored touchdowns on the ground.
02:08He's certainly not Caleb Williams or Jaden Daniels in terms of athleticism.
02:13But where are you going with this team?
02:16I mean, you got rid of Gannon, who was supposed to be a defensive wizard,
02:20and the defense was terrible.
02:22You have an underrated head coach, supposedly.
02:25You have offensive weapons.
02:26Throw in the quarterback and see if you can win five or six games.
02:30I don't – why are you going with Jacoby Brissett?
02:33I don't get it.
02:37So, I'll make the Brissett case.
02:39I just want to say I owe you an apology.
02:43Why?
02:44I was positive you were going to try to make the Minshew case.
02:47I thought you were going to – I thought you were really going to go for it.
02:50No, I mean, Kevin, let me just say this.
02:53The fact of my affinity and love for Gardner Minshew is strictly as a backup quarterback in the right setting.
03:01When you have Brissett and you have Gardner Minshew, it's the same person, just different, you know, physical attributes.
03:08I think Gardner plateaus with the team, and so does Jacoby Brissett.
03:12They're not giving you any option to potentially over-exceed expectation.
03:17Well, so that's what to me –
03:18Carson Tech could be that outlier.
03:20I mean, just because you don't know until he steps out onto the field.
03:24I personally would have taken a shot on a different quarterback.
03:27If it was me as the GM, I would have rolled the dice with Taylon Green as opposed to Carson
03:32Beck, but that's just me.
03:34Yeah, so for me, I find Minshew to be like an unacceptable answer because it doesn't make any sense.
03:49You can make sense of Brissett.
03:51Brissett, you can make sense of Beck, right?
03:53Joe laid out the Beck case.
03:55He's a young rookie.
03:57We haven't seen him before.
03:58Maybe you catch lightning in a bottle.
04:00That's the case.
04:02And if he's bad, all good.
04:04We're drafting a quarterback next year.
04:06It's a straightforward case I have no issue with.
04:10The case for Brissett is he was good enough to give the guys that really matter on this team a
04:22chance to shine.
04:24That's what he was.
04:26He was good enough to give Trey McBride a chance to prove he's one of the three best tight ends
04:31in football.
04:32He was good enough to give Michael Wilson the chance to break out.
04:36And he was good enough to keep the side eyes directed at Marvin Harrison Jr. going on because, Marv, you
04:43can't really blame everybody else at some point.
04:47And at some point, it's going to be about you.
04:50And I think that if you want to go with a guy in Jacoby Brissett to give McBride and Love
05:00and Wilson and Harrison their chance to shine, that is absolutely valid.
05:08And if there comes a point in the season where you go, okay, it's no longer Brissett, you can give
05:14Carson Beck that opportunity.
05:15I think Minshew being on the roster in case Brissett gets injured too early before you're ready to go to
05:23Beck is fine.
05:24But Minshew, to me, is a non-option.
