00:00Jeremiah Love, third overall.
00:03I mean, it certainly shook some things up, huh?
00:06He is the most talented football player in this class.
00:13He was probably the most talented football player
00:16in all of college football last season.
00:19And I think he is a future All-Pro.
00:23And I'm still not sure I love what Arizona did here at third overall.
00:28There are a couple of different directions that you can take it.
00:31But, Tom, are you deep in the NFL draft conversations
00:36about value versus talent and positional value here
00:40with what Arizona did at third overall?
00:44I don't love it.
00:46And leading into the draft, I know that Love was mocked a lot
00:49going to four to the Titans.
00:51And my kind of thoughts going into that,
00:54suspecting that he would have gone four would be the same.
00:58A, I think Love's going to be great.
00:59I think he's going to be super fun from both a betting
01:01and fantasy perspective.
01:03But it doesn't mean it's the right pick, right?
01:05And I think my thoughts are the exact same with Arizona.
01:08He's going to be great.
01:09One day I think he'll be one of the premier running backs
01:13across the league.
01:14But it doesn't mean it's the right pick for Arizona.
01:16Like, both things are true.
01:17And to see where his usage could potentially sit this year
01:21is, you know, it kind of puts a, it dampens it a bit
01:26just because we know he may not be the guy
01:28and we're going to have to wait a couple of years
01:30to see him truly shine.
01:32Yeah, Tyler Algier finding a way to be the touchdown vulture
01:35of a mega special running back is an odd one
01:39as he goes from B. John Robinson to Jeremiah Love.
01:42But that was one of the other reasons, Tom,
01:44I really couldn't believe Arizona made this decision.
01:46They had signed not one but two running backs this offseason
01:49and re-signing James Conner and bringing in Tyler Algier.
01:54And I am pretty sure the phone calls were there
01:57to get this team to trade out of the third slot
02:00since Arvel Reese was on the board.
02:02We know both Kansas City and New Orleans
02:04were heavily, heavily connected to Reese
02:07and had interest in bringing him in.
02:09If I were to offer up the Devil's Advocate,
02:11if I was, you know, a defensive Arizona,
02:15Jeremiah Love was going fourth?
02:17And if Jeremiah Love didn't go fourth,
02:19he was going fifth.
02:20You know, it's not as if they reached on a guy
02:22who was, oh, going to otherwise fall out of the top ten.
02:26Now, we can say that, oh, all of those NFL teams
02:29are making poor decisions.
02:30I am, I am, I am truly,
02:33and I might say I'm open to that conversation.
02:38But as what we have to acknowledge
02:40that Jeremiah Love, if he didn't go third,
02:42was going four, and if he didn't go four,
02:43was going five.
02:44Like, the Titans, I do think, Tom,
02:46in taking Carnell Tate,
02:48which you could easily argue is a better pick
02:51than Jeremiah Love due to the way
02:53wide receivers are being paid, right?
02:56Due to what that could bring,
02:58I think, in terms of an immediate help
03:01to Cam Ward versus the running back position,
03:03they were taking Love if he was there.
03:07They pivoted to Carnell Tate,
03:08and the Giants, the Giants went surplus,
03:14if you will, right?
03:15BPA, Arvel Reese.
03:16They don't necessarily need an edge rusher.
03:18They're like, we're going to play him
03:19inside backer instead.
03:21They were also taking Jeremiah Love,
03:23which is a fascinating thing to be true, Tom,
03:25but I think that is completely true.
03:27It was, and I also saw a lot of mocks for Love
03:31at one point going to Washington.
03:33Which would have just been, hey,
03:35we're going to take him, if he's available,
03:37we'll take him in.
03:38And listen, Washington does not have a need
03:39for a running back.
03:41You know, again, you could say draft an offense lineman,
03:43draft a wide receiver to help out your young quarterback,
03:45but to see where Love ends up does not shock me
03:49because, to your point, you know,
03:51he is the best player in the draft overall.
03:54You know, the running back dynamic
03:56of how people perceive it, fans perceive it,
03:59and how, you know, coaches or GMs perceive it,
04:02obviously there's a bit of a disconnect
04:03of drafting a running back that high.
04:06I'm not surprised he went three.
04:08You know, if he ended up going four,
04:09wasn't going to be shocked either at that.
