00:00There's no sugarcoating or spin when it comes to the results last Thursday.
00:03They were awful.
00:05As far as I'm concerned, you know, good councillors lost their seats through no fault of their own.
00:11Really good Labour councillors are no longer Labour through no fault of their own,
00:15or indeed City Hall, but because people are unhappy, disappointed, disillusioned with the Labour government.
00:22And I think we're doing a disservice to our great city and to Londoners,
00:26but also to those across the country if we don't recognise that as a party.
00:30And it's got to be a wake-up call.
00:32People voted in July 24 for change.
00:35People haven't experienced the change they expected in the first two years of the Labour government.
00:42And here's the irony.
00:43The government's done some great things.
00:462.7 million Londoners benefiting from the Renters' Right Act.
00:49Many, many families benefiting from free childcare from nine months to, you know, reception 30 hours.
00:56Many workers benefiting from the change in workers' rights legislation.
01:01Many families with kids benefiting from the cap in two-child benefit.
01:05But that's overshadowed by basic mistakes and mishaps the government's made.
01:09So I've been quite clear in terms of my analysis, but also been vocal publicly and privately about the need
01:16for change.
01:17I'm not somebody calling for a change in leadership.
01:19I'm calling for and demanding change in the government's delivery being accelerated.
01:25Incredibly important to show the country, including those in London, what the government's north's are is,
01:30what the direction of travel is, how we're going to bring about the change,
01:33and then bring about change and also not make silly basic mistakes and mishaps as well.
