Sir Sadiq Khan has launched a scathing attack on right-wing politicians he says are painting a “dystopian picture of London as a city that’s fallen”.The London Mayor rounded on Reform and Tory politicians who he claimed “can’t stand what London represents - a city that’s diverse, progressive and thriving, with a Mayor who happens to be a Muslim”.

00:00Look, I'm going to use my speech this afternoon to talk about some issues that have become
00:06contentious and weighed heavily on our politics over recent years. Immigration and integration.
00:16I do so not only because these issues are so fundamental to the story of my city and its
00:24continued success, but because they go to the heart of our values and who we are as a
00:32nation. The resurgence of far-right populism and nativism means that the idea that we can
00:42be diverse, united and prosperous is under threat like never before. The White House's
00:52national security strategy recently made the preposterous claim that Europe is at risk of
01:01civilisation erasure. The far-right is spreading the same message in Europe with the national
01:09rally in France, the AFD in Germany, the PVV in the Netherlands and the Brothers of Italy.
01:18Over here, Reform and the Tories are dancing to the same tune.
01:26They paint a dystopian picture of London as a city that's fallen. And let's be frank,
01:36they do so because they can't stand what London represents. A city that's diverse,
01:43that's progressive and thriving with a mayor who happens to be a Muslim.
01:50Thank you so much.
