00:00So let's go to the Cubs here a little bit.
00:02Two 10-game winning streaks so far.
00:04I mean, one of the early surprises in the National League?
00:08Oh, absolutely.
00:10And in May, I'm not sure you want your hot streaks to be over.
00:15You know, it's a game of streaks.
00:18There's no doubt about that, that, you know, teams win and live and die by their losing streaks or their
00:25winning streaks.
00:25And when you get a couple winning streaks like this early, then you think you're built around the streak and
00:31the streak doesn't come in the next five months of the season.
00:34You start to wonder what happened.
00:37But, you know, they've got a good skipper.
00:39They've got a good group of coaches there and talented players who, you know, every other day it seems like
00:46somebody is picking up the baton, as they say, and marching on.
00:51But, you know, groups can go into slumps just like groups can get hot.
00:57And, you know, you don't know a team until you see them at their worst and see them at their
01:02best, and then you figure out where they are in between.
01:07Bobby V, are you more surprised than the American League East right now with what the Yankees are doing or
01:12what the Rays are doing?
01:15Oh, obviously the Rays, even though, you know, when are we going to stop being surprised?
01:20They're a model organization.
01:22Somehow they get it.
01:24And whatever it is, they put out on the field every night, and they're tough to compete against.
01:29Now the Yankees, you know, without a couple of their big arms, have had great pitching and good offense.
01:37And it looks like they have a chance of getting better as the season goes on, yet what it looks
01:43like isn't what it always is.
01:45And, you know, to root for the Yankees is an easy thing with the great players they have and the
01:51great tradition they have.
01:53And to root against them is an easy thing, too.
01:55And I root for them, actually, because I was a Yankee fan growing up.
01:59But they're going to have a couple tough road ahead, too.
02:03And, you know, if they stay healthy and get healthier in that pitching staff, they'll have a chance to, you
02:11know, get into that playoff situation and then let the big guns blast and get into the World Series.
02:18I think still against the Dodgers, and we'll see how that all works out.
02:22Bobby, I take this, and I always say, folks, to this in football, the first four games of the year,
02:28I call that, you know, Liars Month.
02:31You really don't know what you're getting in football with the first four because they don't play exhibition football any
02:36longer.
02:37Do you get that sense, too, when you're looking at your baseball team the first couple months of the baseball
02:42season?
02:43Because you really don't know what you have, maybe until post-All-Star break.
02:47Is that a fair way to look at how you look at a ball team and how you look at
02:51a roster?
02:53I think the All-Star breaks a little deeper into the season now.
02:57I think, you know, that first week in June, I think you should know who you are or have an
03:04idea and also have an idea about the competition.
03:08And the season and what you do during this season and how you construct or destruct your team during that
03:16season depends not only on what you think your group can do, but what you think the competition is going
03:21to do.
03:22In the American League this year, it doesn't seem like there's a lot of great competition, so you're going to
03:26see, I think, a lot of teams hanging around.
03:29You saw Cleveland already make a trade for Bailey today to boost their defense for sure.
03:37He's not hitting very well, but he will, and their offense.
03:41And so I think you're going to see some American League teams maneuvering a lot more than those National League
03:47teams because right now everyone thinks they have a shot.
03:50Bye.
03:50Bye.
03:50Bye.
03:50Bye.
