00:00So let's go over to one of the greatest managers of all time in Bobby Cox.
00:05I'm going to make a comparison to him.
00:07I'm kind of a baseball historian, and one of the greatest characters of all time
00:12and one of the most beloved managers of all time was Casey Stengel.
00:16Bobby Cox is the modern-day Casey Stengel.
00:2014 straight division titles, National League East crowns, five pennants, a World Series,
00:26a guy who was the standard in Atlanta.
00:30John Sherroltz, the former president, said we would be nothing without Bobby Cox running
00:35and how he ran the Atlanta Braves.
00:38Two icons for the Braves pass away in the same week.
00:41It's kind of really poignant when you look at Ted Turner, who ended up buying
00:45and bringing the great Bobby Cox to Atlanta.
00:49He owned the Braves, of course, and two of the greatest icons in Braves history
00:54passing away this year.
00:56And this week, it's incredible.
00:58Bobby Cox was, without a doubt, one of the most charismatic guys of all time, too.
01:03The record for the most ejections of all time.
01:07And you saw the outpour from everyone, all publications, all places,
01:12every single Major League Baseball team, the Washington Post, everyone loved this man.
01:18Bob Nightingale had a great column, too, about the man who he loved and he admired the most
01:23when you're talking Major League Baseball.
01:26There's very few guys that were able to do the things that when it came to winning that
01:32Bobby Cox did, that tremendous pitching staff that he had back in the day, those great players,
01:37the benchmark of how you built a baseball team with pitching and great defense.
01:43And there's no question Bobby Cox goes down as one of the greatest managers of all time.
01:48How he ran the Atlanta Braves.
01:51You know, I had a conversation with Greg Maddox a couple years ago, and he said,
01:55make no mistake about it, Bobby Cox was a guy that was the calming force in our dugout.
02:02Every time that there was an issue or a letdown, think about this, too.
02:06Many people will look back and go that the run of the Atlanta Braves was underachieving.
02:1114 straight National League East division crowns, five pennants, a World Series.
02:19People would say that they should have won more.
02:21Bobby Cox is truly one of the greatest managers that's ever lived.
02:25You know, you've got people like Joe Torre coming out.
02:29You've got everyone talking about the impact that he had on the game of baseball.
02:33It is so hard to lead men.
02:35It is so hard to also make sure you can guide men like that.
02:40And Bobby Cox, without a doubt, truly one of the greatest managers,
02:43and I compare him to the late, great Casey Stengel.
02:46Stengel was just a character in baseball's history.
02:50Ran the Yankees and obviously was the Mets' first manager.
02:52And when you go back and look at the history of baseball,
02:56you will put Bobby Cox's name as truly one of the greatest managers in the history of the sport.
03:01There is nobody that ran a clubhouse as well as Bobby Cox.
03:07Plus, getting into an umpire's face.
03:09I wonder what he and how he would handle the new ABS system of today.
03:13But what a great, great manager.
03:16And again, baseball lost an icon in the same week that they ended up losing the great Ted Turner,
03:23who ended up buying the team and bringing him in.
