00:02it's official the nation's homes are severely lacking in energy efficiency as the winter cold
00:08is coming British Gas who recently launched the home health check are going to showcase
00:12the simple hacks that can be done to increase efficiency and save money so the things that
00:20we've tried are closing the curtains and closing the doors to keep the heat compartmentalised but
00:25sometimes what we have to do because we've got a three-year-old daughter so we put a small heater
00:30in her room just to make sure that when she's going to sleep it isn't too cold are we actually
00:34really efficient or really inefficient is there money that we're just throwing away so really
00:39keen to learn and to understand hope we can do better the common heat loss areas and the property
00:47are the walls the floors the roof and the windows and doors people tend to focus on the smaller
00:56things but focusing on the efficiency of the heating system is really important and that's one of the
01:02reasons I'm here today so I would say for quick tips remove the radiator covers put some reflective
01:09foil behind the radiator in the living room and fill in some cracks between the skirting boards and the
01:15floor because you might be losing some some heat through those gaps the boiler flow temperature
01:20setting that at 60 to 65 is really important because otherwise if it's higher you can lose money and it
01:28can cost you some energy as well so if you want to understand more about the efficiency of your home
01:36I recommend getting a home health check because it is a personalised check for your property rather
01:42than a generalised thing because every property is different yeah it's been enlightening there's so
01:49many things that we can do and so many things that we are now going to go and try so
01:54that you know
01:54hopefully we can bring our builds down and live in a nice warm not freezing cold house
