00:00Whether you're a morning person or not, we can all agree that waking up most days to an alarm is
00:04not our first choice when it comes to the sounds we'd like to hear emanating from our phones.
00:09I think it's also safe to assume that all alarm noises provided by our phones are all terrible, but some
00:14are less terrible than others.
00:16In a study conducted by HuffPost journalist Carolina Grassman, different morning alarms were used over a period of three weeks
00:23to find the differences in mood they set upon waking up.
00:27The first leg was trying very loud alarm sounds. Carolina found that she'd wake up feeling scared.
00:33Sydney Atten, a neuroscientist specializing in circadian rhythms and sleep, says that even if you'd had an incredible night's sleep,
00:41this sound can still leave you feeling stressed and grumpy.
00:44The second leg of the experiment included neutral alarm sounds, loud enough to wake you but not startling, and the
00:51third leg was relaxing and melodic alarm sounds.
00:53She found that these options were better on the body and mind, but there's no single universal answer to what
01:00the best alarm sound would be for everyone.
01:03Fortune.com recommends progressive sounds that start relatively quiet and calm and get progressively loud and energizing, but you may
01:11opt for a song that you enjoy and don't think will grow old very quickly.
01:15Either way, we're fortunate to have an abundance of sounds available to us built into our devices or available for
01:21purchase in the app stores.
01:23Happy sleeping and happy waking up!
