00:00The manager, Joe Espada, kind of spoke about the injuries,
00:04and he's been dealing with this for a couple of years now
00:07since he has taken over to be the manager of the Astros.
00:11Here's Joe Espada speaking to it.
00:13It's a good question. It's a really good question.
00:16You know, I have faith, faith in my group of players, faith in God.
00:21You know, this is part of the game, right?
00:24The storms, how you manage this makes you stronger.
00:27I got to stay steady. I'm the manager of this team, and I have faith in this group.
00:32And if I, you know, if I shake in, you know, they see that, and I'm not going to
00:38because I, you know, we're going to stand up and we're going to continue to fight.
00:42That's who we are. It's a long season, y'all. It's a long season, man.
00:45It's a lot of baseball left, and we're still in this fight, you know.
00:48You win three or four games in a row, and you're back in it.
00:50So, you know, tough, man. You just got to keep grinding through this.
00:53Long fight, y'all. I didn't know if I was going to get it.
00:55Y'all, come on, man. It's a long season, man.
00:58That was maybe the best Joe we've heard.
01:00It's a long season, y'all.
01:02Come on, Clint. That was, I mean, you know, I don't know if it means anything,
01:06but that was maybe the best, like, explaining why he goes the way he goes about that.
01:12Yeah, no, look, I like the audio. I like it on a personal level.
01:16I like the transparency. I appreciate it.
01:19But it's like, you can't, you can't, you know how I feel about this, man.
01:25I mean, you just, you got to, if you hope to rattle off three or four wins in a row,
01:30which you really need 10 or 12, if you hope to rattle off three or four wins in a row,
01:35put your best foot forward.
01:36Hell, you got to have your team hurt, man.
01:38It's time for guys, we can't rest everybody.
01:42Put your best foot forward, see if you can't turn this thing and get some momentum rolling.
01:48Quit going about business the same way you would go about business
01:53if everybody was healthy and you're winning the division.
01:55That's where I'm at, personally.
01:59I mean, look, I do. I like the transparency.
02:01I can feel the human part of what he's dealing with.
02:06And, well, you start talking about the faith you got and believing in the squad.
02:10You're in a tough place. I get it.
02:12I like the thought of him saying, this is why I go about it the way I do.
02:18I feel like I got to be steady.
02:20Oh, sure. No, I love it.
02:21I got to be steady, and if they see me waver, it may.
02:25Yeah.
02:25I don't know. I feel like they've wavered.
02:28I don't know. You could be as steady as you want up there.
02:30I don't know. It feels like they have.
02:33Maybe that happened two years ago.
02:35I don't know if that's happening this year.
02:36Yeah.
02:37I mean, look, I just, again, man, I just,
02:42there's a lot of stuff, but the Lance McCullers stuff yesterday,
02:46visiting the mound twice.
02:47He's got a broken nail.
02:48He's letting him talk you into leaving him out there.
02:50Next thing you know, boom, it's 6-1, and this game's over.
02:53I mean, those kind of decisions, you're not going to rattle three or four off.
02:57You're not going to rattle 10 or 12 off with that kind of decision.
03:00When you've got a day off the next day not playing out to me, I understand it.
03:03I understand he swung at a pitch that he couldn't hit at if his bat was as tall as him.
03:07I get it.
03:08He probably deserved it.
03:09But, like, you're not going to, like, that kind of stuff is not going to, it matters.
03:15It doesn't matter in a, whatever, that score ended up.
03:18I mean, when it's 6-1 in a third, it doesn't matter, obviously.
03:23But, I mean, that's the part that gets me is we're going to, it's a long season.
03:28Guys got a lot of baseball.
03:29But we're going to, that's going to be the excuse until you're eliminated.
03:34Yeah.
03:35And so that's just the, you know, where I just get frustrated as hell as an Astros fan.
03:42I can understand the injuries.
03:44I can understand the human side of this thing where it sucks to be the manager of the Astros right
03:48now
03:48having to deal with these injuries.
03:49I don't at all want to minimize that at all.
03:51But I go home every night and watch the Astros.
03:53And I got to watch, I got to watch guys that I shouldn't be watching
03:57even given with the injuries that we have.
04:00I mean, you mentioned Bryce Matthews, how good he's looked in center field.
04:03Has he played center field since?
04:07I think now he's been playing second base.
04:09Right.
04:10I mean, so, yeah, because we got to give Altuve a day off.
04:12And so then you got to put somebody, which it just seems to be a lot going,
04:19a lot of trying to stay the course when the course has changed majorly for you.
04:27And that's the frustrating part.
04:29So, look, we talked about it yesterday.
04:30I know you pushed back on the catcher deal.
04:32I get it, man.
04:33Like, after – but your starting catcher got hurt.
04:36Your backup catcher's been swinging the bat really well.
04:38You need to win.
04:38You need to rattle off three or four wins to watch a Sugar Land catcher have three pass balls.
04:43Although, I don't know that Mike Piazza would have stopped him some bucks.
04:46But at the end of the day, that part is frustrating.
04:49Pudge Rodriguez.
04:50Pudge would be a better example.
04:53Mike at the plate, yeah, Mike.
04:55How about Maldonado would have been a better one, huh?
04:58Hey, Tyler, I would have never thought in my life that when it comes down to it
05:08and Clint's got to go into the mental brain, the mental place of going to go draw a catcher,
05:15that Mike Piazza is his place.
05:17I just tried to think of a big guy.
05:19I thought of a big guy just trying to reach it, man.
05:21I would never have guessed it.
05:24Come on, man.
05:24He was on that show I watched the other day.
05:26Hey, when push comes to shove and you've got to bring one out, Mike Piazza is the catcher.
05:32Pudge isn't tall enough to get either one of those balls that lands through.
05:36We need a link.
05:38Piazza's been mentioned two days in a row on this show.
05:40Again, it's just like it's funny to think of like, hey, if you've got to go a quick time and
05:49think of a second baseman,
05:50where do you go?
05:50Do you go Joe Morgan?
05:51Do you go Roberto Alomar?
05:54Do you go out to where do you go quickly?
05:56I'll go Sandberg.
05:58You go Ryan.
06:00That's gold.
06:01Yeah.
06:02Go first base.
06:02Who is it?
06:03First base.
06:04I don't know.
06:05Right now, Mo Vine was the first name that popped in my head.
06:07I don't know why.
06:08He was on the cover of a video game.
06:10I immediately go Glenn Davis.
06:14Shut up.
06:14I swear.
06:15Big baby?
06:16I swear, no.
06:17Just get that Glenn Davis.
06:19There you go.
06:21Third base.
06:23Yeah, that's Ken Caminetti.
06:25No, I go to old fake, old fraud that's on TV now.
06:29A-Rod.
06:29That started as a shortstop.
06:31Yeah, I'd go there.
06:32Such a shortstop.
06:33Who do you go to?
06:33I go to Cal.
06:34You go Jeter?
06:34Jeter is probably where I –
06:36Now, listen, it depends.
06:38Wherever my head is, I'm liable to have gone anywhere.
06:41Like, it could be just like for some reason.
06:47Greg.
06:48Greg.
06:49It could be just roll into my head.
06:53It didn't –
06:54Everett.
06:55It doesn't matter.
06:56But, anyway.
06:59Yeah, no.
07:00Centerfield.
07:01Centerfield.
07:02Michael Bourne.
07:04I go Edmonds.
07:06Jim Edmonds, that's your fault.
07:08I mean, I just – I mean, the first thing I think of.
07:11Yeah.
07:12Devon White's coming to my mind for some reason.
07:15Devon White?
07:16I ain't even got Devon White.
07:17The Blue Jays just came into my head, man.
07:20Catcher.
07:21Tony Eusebio.
07:23Benito Santiago.
07:26I don't know why that is.
07:27Wow.
07:28Benito.
07:29Tony Pena comes to my mind.
07:31Evan Gattis.
07:33Big Evan.
07:33That's not a bad one.
07:35Former custodian.
07:36Clearly, I've already given mine up.
07:38Turn champion.
07:38I go Mike.
07:39But, again, like, we're just guessing.
07:41I don't know if we know.
07:43Someone texted in shortstop.
07:44Ozzie Smith is –
07:46Oh, good one.
07:47You just don't –
07:47Good one.
07:49Like, I don't know.
07:50Ozzie was my guy.
07:51Yeah, Ozzie was – I don't know.
07:53Like, I could be reaching – I feel like Jeter is pretty safe at short.
07:58Where I – if I got to go reach – like, you think you're – I mean, like, he's coming
08:01up here like he's – yeah, I think I would say Derek Jeter.
08:05He's a biracial angel.
08:06I think you'd be safe with all of them.
08:09Yeah.
08:09I mean, Derek Jeter, Cal Ripken, Ozzie Smith.
08:11I probably snuck Griffey in.
08:13We talk about center.
08:14I probably would have said Griffey.
08:14Yeah.
08:15He's my favorite coming up.
08:17Where was O'Ichiro?
08:19Where'd he play?
08:20He played in –
08:21He was an outfield.
08:22In right.
08:23Yep.
08:23They went ahead and retired – they retired –
08:26They bent Ichiro's –
08:27They retired –
08:28They bent Ichiro's back.
08:29Yeah, they did.
08:30But they retired – they retired both 51s.
08:33They retired Randy Johnson last week.
08:36And they retired Ichiro.
08:37They were both 51.
08:38I go pitcher, I go Nolan.
08:39It was straight to Nolan.
08:41Astro's great, Randy Johnson.
08:44When he hit that old bird, man, that is still one of the most unbelievable things, man.
08:48You see it almost happen again the other day?
08:49If it came out today, people would think it was A.I.
08:51I go Dave Stewart.
08:52Dave Stewart.
08:53Dave Stewart, really?
08:55Sounds like a NASCAR driver.
08:57Dave Stewart, man.
08:58Dave Stewart would hit people.
09:00I don't have Dave.
09:01You ain't got Dave?
09:02Oh, man, the A's and the Blue J's, Dave Stewart.
09:05When did he play?
09:07Late 80s, early 90s.
09:09It was Ricky Henderson.
09:09Y'all are old, man.
09:10He was on Ricky's team.
09:11How did Ricky make our list?
09:12I don't know why.
09:13When you keep saying this, I keep running into the Blue J's of the 90s.
09:17I've called off – I've tried not to say – I tried to not say Joe Carter on one of
09:21them,
09:21but I think I've used Roberto Alomar.
09:23He was on that team.
09:24Devon White was the center fielder.
09:26I didn't say Pat Borders behind the plate.
09:28I mean, for some reason, I have that entire starting lineup.
09:30I don't know why you even have those guys.
09:31I do.
09:31Ed Sprague.
09:32Ed Sprague at third for some reason.
09:34Go ahead and put Alu out there.
09:36John Olerud at first when he used to wear the helmet.
09:39Golly, that's –
09:40Paul Molitor was the designated hitter there.
09:43See, I remember Paul as the –
09:44The MVP of the 93 season.
09:45He was with the Brewers at one point, wasn't he?
09:47Yeah, yeah.
09:48Juan Guzman was the number two starter behind Dave Stewart.
09:51I'm sorry.
09:51Oh, wow.
09:52Let me stop here.
09:53I ain't got all those random Blue J's.
09:55Dave Stewart, the pole position.
09:57I don't know why.
09:58I just kept rolling.
09:59I had Dave Stewart.
10:01Yeah.
10:01Yeah.
10:02Yeah, Dave Stewart, yeah.
10:03I would not – that's not one of my – it would not have been my go-to.
10:05You probably could have gave me five and I wouldn't have got Dave, but I like it.
10:08And for the first time, the World Championship banner flies north the border.
10:13The Toronto Blue J's are champions.
10:15Great job today, Clint.
10:17Great job, Tyler.
10:18I am Ron.
10:19The show, as always, Houston.
10:20We love you, baby.
10:27Oh, I'm an elite cuddler.
10:29No question.
10:29Elite.
10:30You feel like – actually, I did Tyler.
10:32You are probably on the podium of Sports Radio 610 Cuddlers.
10:35What makes you an elite cuddler?
10:37I was going to say, Dave.
10:37I'm versatile.
10:38Big spoon or little spoon.
10:40Oh, wow.
10:41There's Clint.
10:42There's Tyler.
10:42If you see him there on YouTube and Twitch, he is showing nipples.
10:47Nipples and hair, Tyler.
10:49We are –
10:49I'm due.
10:50It's going to take a lot to shave that chest.
10:52It's going to – I mean, you're approaching Magnum PI, and you know yourself.
10:55You know you get there.
10:57I mean, hell.
10:58It's got to keep Nair away from him.
