00:43It's a first-time welcome to Kaley Cuoco!

01:27Oh, come on, come on!
01:28Look at how it goes!
01:30Look at how it goes!
01:31Come on, come on!
01:33Sit down already!
01:35Sit down already, sit, sit, sit, sit.
01:36I know!
01:37I know!
01:38I know!
01:38What a lovely couch!
01:40Oh, my God!
01:41Before we do anything as Steven Graham congratulations on everything
01:46It's been so lovely to see you traveling the world picking up prizes wherever you go
01:50I mean and it's I was saying to you backstage. It's lovely that it's you Aaron and Owen you keep
01:56winning together
02:00You say you know to be able to share it together is something else because it's you don't really get
02:05them kind of opportunities
02:06Yeah, it's the gift that keeps on giving his head and says and tell me this was it the Golden
02:11Globes
02:11I mean it's such a starry audience of the Golden Globes. Yeah, but you got distracted by a very specific
02:15person
02:18Well, there was it yeah, there was it there was a few
02:27I mean I've known for a long time and Leo just stood up and he was just looking at me
02:32and clapping and I don't know not this
02:36I
02:39Know it's strange. He's been me mate for like over 20 years
02:42So for him to see me in that situation was was lovely for him and it was it was an
02:46honor. Yeah
02:46Yeah, it was weird, but actually really Leo you did meet Steven, but it wasn't there. It was it. Where
02:51was it? Do you remember?
02:53Now why would you
02:55We met a toilet
02:58Yeah, yeah, it was at the Craig's Choice Awards. Yes, that's right. I'd finished my week and
03:07Yeah, well, I mean I'd been like drawing my hands for like yes three minutes because I was I have
03:13to say hello to Steven Graham
03:18Big bladder big bladder
03:22I was very excited to meet you and then because I'd kind of already lost my mind. I just turn
03:28around when he's soon as he was done
03:30Hi
03:31He was like oh mate, I've just had my nose down
03:33I've just had my nose down
03:34I've just had my nose down
03:34I've just had my nose down
03:35And then I washed my hands
03:36You did you very done
03:37And then we shook hands
03:39The etiquette of shaking hands people
03:41Yeah
03:41Make sure you don't have your knob in it
03:43Yeah
03:43I like that you have your hands
03:45I mean not
03:45Yeah, sex face
03:48I like that everyone's washing your hands, that's good
03:50It's good
03:51That's the same night that you met Kaylee's?
03:54Yeah
03:54That night too
03:55It was a wild night for me
03:56We were all fanning
03:57I fanned over your girlfriend
03:59I fanned over your partner
04:00My fiance fanned over you
04:00Everyone fanned over each other
04:02It was a fanning moment
04:04Sonia what?
04:05Oh, we were all fanning over each other
04:07Fan girling, fan boying
04:09Fanning moment
04:10I thought you said it was a fanny moment
04:13It was a fan, we were fanning over each other
04:15Like, you know
04:16Yeah
04:16It wasn't that kind of show
04:18Adrian, have you been in a toilet with anyone on this side?
04:23No, no, I haven't
04:24I haven't
04:24Good
04:27And Kaylee Cuoco
04:29Everyone loved you as Penny and the Big Bang Theory
04:32Thank you
04:32Aw, thank you
04:36Thank you
04:37A lot of years
04:37A lot of years
04:38A lot of hair
04:40A lot of jeans
04:40But I felt like
04:41It wasn't
04:43Weird outfits
04:43But I knew
04:44I knew the Big Bang Theory had been successful
04:46I didn't realise
04:47There are more episodes of the Big Bang Theory than any other sitcom
04:51Yes
04:51Wow
04:52Yeah, 279
04:54I believe so
04:54We almost made it to 300
04:55Yeah
04:56We didn't hit
04:57I don't think we hit 300
04:58No, 279 according to my stats
05:00I think you're right
05:01Yeah
05:02And you must assume at some point that everyone has seen an episode of the Big Bang Theory
05:07You know, I never assume that
05:08But I do get a lot of knock knock knock pennies wherever I go
05:12But then one person in your life
05:14Not so familiar
05:16Oh my
05:16Yeah, my fiance had no idea about the show when I met him
05:20Timmy?
05:20No, he just had never seen it
05:22He's not really
05:23He'd never seen it
05:24And he brought me
05:25The first time he brought me home actually to meet his family
05:28His mom's partner
05:30They've been together forever
05:30He's lovely
05:31Hi John
05:32Anyway, the first time I met him
05:33I got introduced
05:34And he kept going
05:35Oh, Penny
05:36Oh Penny
05:37And he kept calling me Penny
05:38And I never said anything about it because I thought
05:40Oh, that's so sweet
05:41He loved the show
05:42And I could see Tom like looking around like
05:44I can't believe John thinks her name is Penny
05:46And so the whole day goes on
05:47But he noticed that I didn't
05:49I wasn't bothered
05:50I didn't say anything
05:50And then we get in the car that night
05:51He's like
05:52I told John your name
05:53I cannot believe he called you Penny
05:54I don't know where he got that from
05:56I'm like
05:56I think he got it from the Big Bang Theory
05:59Yeah
05:59And Tom was like
06:00Tom was like
06:01What?
06:02He's like
06:02Oh, he had never seen the show
06:03Wow, wow
06:04So he didn't know my name on the show
06:06I know
06:06He still hasn't seen it
06:08But he's hurt
06:09Yeah, he's hurt
06:10So yeah, that's why I was okay with it
06:12Well, I'm sure he'll enjoy you in your new show Vanish
06:14Which we'll talk about later
06:15But we get started tonight with Stephen Graham's latest
06:19It's called The Good Boy
06:20It's in cinemas from the 20th of March
06:23And this is something kind of different for you
06:25It's a genre film
06:27So tell us who you play
06:29It's a great premise
06:30It's a really strange little film
06:32The director, Jan
06:34He made it
06:34It is
06:35It's a weird film
06:36It's good weird
06:38It's good weird
06:38But it's very strange
06:39It's kind of like
06:41It's northern with a European sensibility
06:44And it's basically
06:47A family kidnap a young man
06:52And try to teach him some manners
06:54And try to give him some culture
06:57And, you know, open his eyes to the possibilities of what it would be to be a loving, caring human
07:04being
07:04And the kind of trio
07:06It's Anson Boone
07:08Yes
07:08And you're reunited with Andrea Risberg
07:10Andrea Risberg
07:10Who's fantastic
07:11She's absolutely amazing
07:12And Anson is fantastic as well
07:14But also it is funny that the last time you were with Andrea Risberg was in Matilda
07:17Yeah
07:18Yeah, we played Man and White
07:19Oh my god
07:22And this is very different
07:23Very different
07:24She's kind of
07:25I would say fans of Matilda
07:26Mightn't enjoy it so much
07:28Well, they kind of will
07:30Because it's also child cruelty
07:31Which is what was going on
07:33Yes
07:34It's a run and theme
07:35Yeah, it's got a run and theme through it
07:37Everything's linked
07:37Everything's connected
07:38What is it? We've got a clip
07:39This is you as Chris
07:41And Andrea as Catherine
07:42And you're going down to the basement
07:44To see Tommy
07:45Played by Anson Boone
07:47Here we go
07:50It's weird
07:50Yeah
07:51It's very strange
07:52I don't think I sold it right
07:56Thematically it brings up a lot of issues about you know
07:58Social identity
08:00About what we're doing with the world these days
08:02And also that kind of
08:04Are you better with being in an imprisoned environment
08:08What you know
08:08Or should you be free and be able to fly and see what's out there
08:12Do you know what I mean?
08:13Thematically it's quite deep
08:14And it's obviously a different look
08:15The wig, the glasses
08:16The wig as well
08:17And you've talked on this show before
08:19About finding walks
08:21It is a very strong look
08:22Did you find a walk?
08:24Thank you
08:24Did you find a walk?
08:25I did find a walk
08:27Yeah
08:27As you know in the house
08:28When I create these kind of
08:30I almost piss Hannah and the kids off so much
08:32But I'd walk up and down the house
08:34Until I get it right
08:34Do you know what I mean?
08:35I like to get the physicality of it
08:37And the costume
08:38You work with the costume department
08:39She gives me the shoes
08:39And then I'll just play with it
08:41But I found a really interesting
08:43Yeah, it was a weird walk
08:44And then I'd be walking the dogs
08:46And I'd go right
08:46Alright
08:47My bonnie clads would run off
08:48And then I'd get into the
08:49And I'd just do the walk
08:51And it really changed my hips
08:53And everything
08:53Yeah, it was a bit weird
08:54Definitely get your steps in as well
08:56Yeah, got me steps in
08:57Your method steps
08:58My method steps
08:59Yeah
08:59And Adrian
09:01You're playing Cyrano
09:02And we'll talk about that later
09:03But the physical
09:04You know, defining physical thing about Cyrano
09:06Yeah
09:06Is the nose
09:07Yeah
09:08So how do you go about
09:09Kind of choosing
09:11Oh wow
09:11The nose
09:12I mean no
09:14It's a lovely nose
09:15Good response, Leo
09:18Wow
09:18It's like a proper
09:19Yeah
09:20Big
09:20A schnoz
09:21It's a schnoz
09:22That's a big
09:23You can smell the coffee in the next
09:26And did you
09:28Did you start bigger and go back
09:29Or did you start small and go out
09:31I started very small
09:32And I went in with a little prosthetic
09:33Very small nose
09:34And we tried that for a bit
09:35And went mmmmm no bigger
09:36So we tried a little bit bigger
09:37And we went mmmmm
09:38Bit bigger
09:39So we tried it even bigger
09:40And then I had to rail it in rehearsal
09:41When I was fighting
09:42Just to make sure
09:43That it wouldn't fall off
09:44Oh yeah
09:45Cause we did all the choreography
09:46And everything
09:47And all of that
09:47But you know
09:48Sometimes I'm on stage
09:49And I turn
09:50I can't turn too sharply
09:53It's a comedy
09:54But when someone speaks
09:54Yeah I can't go
09:55Like that
09:56Because it won't come off
09:58Was it in the back of your head
09:59Thinking it was going to come off
10:00Yeah this kind of constant fear
10:01Oh god
10:01So when I turn
10:02If somebody says something
10:03Really surprising
10:04I have to sort of go
10:05Mmmmm
10:08Very good
10:10It's a choice
10:10It's a choice
10:12And
10:12Talking of transformations
10:14For you Leo
10:16How hard is it to make that switch
10:18From Jack and the White Lotus
10:20To playing
10:20Kind of
10:21Very posh
10:22In one day
10:23Thank you
10:24As Dexter
10:24I mean it was
10:26It was difficult
10:27Purely because
10:28I had to do it
10:29Within like two weeks
10:30Because the shoot
10:32Was crossing over
10:33Oh okay
10:33So I had to lose
10:35I don't know
10:35Like
10:36A stone and a half
10:37Of weight
10:38Of muscle
10:39I mean
10:39Um
10:42And
10:42You know
10:43Kinda lose the
10:44Walk
10:45Get rid of the tattoos
10:46Which
10:47Harder to get off
10:48Than I actually realised
10:50Um
10:50Did you
10:51But you
10:52You liked the tattoos
10:53Did you
10:53I loved them
10:55I loved them
10:56It's fun getting them on
10:57Yeah I mean
10:58It's not fun getting them on
10:59Or getting them off
11:01When they're on
11:02I would just
11:02I would walk around
11:03Just sit in the chair
11:04And just have a little meditate
11:05Yeah
11:05When they cover them up
11:06Or when you have to get the tattoos on
11:07Do you have a lot of tattoos
11:09I have a few
11:09Oh okay
11:10So you gotta get them covered
11:11Yeah
11:12Do you have any tattoos?
11:13I do
11:14I have a large one on my back
11:15And it's funny
11:16The one on my back
11:17Just shows above my shirt
11:18I wish I would have
11:20Years ago thought
11:20To just go an inch lower
11:22And never would have had to cover it
11:23It's always just sticking out of the top
11:25Yeah
11:26Just annoying
11:26Just a little bit
11:27Is it rude to ask what it is?
11:29It's like
11:29It covered an old one
11:31It just got worse and worse
11:32Okay
11:32Oh wow
11:33It started with one
11:34I covered that one
11:35Then I covered another
11:36And now it's just
11:37Blah
11:38It's just
11:39All the way across
11:40A big scribble
11:41Yeah
11:42You know
11:42Think before you put one on your back
11:45Guys
11:46It's interesting with them on your neck though
11:48Isn't it?
11:48Yeah
11:48Cause you would probably never put one on your neck
11:50Well I don't know
11:51I mean I
11:52Okay
11:52It will be in a chair for ages then
11:55Yeah yeah
11:55I think
11:56I mean the neck was
11:57Was definitely extreme
11:58But
11:58I just kind of liked being
12:00I mean some of them were so
12:01It says something about the characters isn't it?
12:03Yeah
12:04I had
12:05I had Wendy
12:07On my
12:08Left butt cheek
12:10Which doesn't actually make it into the show
12:12It's not real
12:13No no no
12:14It's not real
12:15So you just had Wendy on your ass for no reason
12:17No reason
12:18No reason
12:19You mean the name
12:21The difference in future relationships
12:22We're gonna see Wendy today
12:25Trust me
12:26There is
12:26There is
12:27There's a couple of bum scenes in that
12:28And I tried to shift Wendy
12:30You tried to put Wendy in the show
12:30I tried to shift Wendy into the shop
12:32But
12:32She just didn't
12:33She didn't make it
12:35And is it
12:36Is it
12:37Was it the name or the logo of the shop?
12:40It was
12:40It was
12:40So
12:42No it wasn't Wendy's
12:43No it was just Wendy's
12:44Oh okay
12:45So my
12:45Who came up with Wendy?
12:46I did
12:47My
12:49Backstory
12:49There's a reason for Wendy
12:50I think there's some backstory here
12:51I think I've been like watching Breaking Bad
12:53And there's a character called Wendy
12:54In that show
12:56And
12:57I just thought
12:58How this kid would have
13:00Some memory of a woman called Wendy
13:02And he'd just get it tattooed on his bum
13:04So Wendy's supporting you
13:05In some way
13:06So Wendy got me through that
13:07Oh
13:07I don't think
13:09Oh I like
13:09Oh
13:09Also
13:11Any woman would see that as a compliment
13:16That's so lovely you got my name there
13:18Well you haven't met Wendy
13:18Yeah
13:19Yeah
13:20Wendy would be very happy
13:21That's so Wendy
13:23Oh it's all the Wendy's
13:24Now you talk about the themes of the good boy Stephen
13:27Yeah
13:28And in a way it's all
13:29It's like I've got a weird twisted companion piece to Adolescence isn't it?
13:33Presumably you've all seen Adolescence
13:34Oh my god
13:35Yeah
13:36So
13:37Thank you very much
13:39Thank you
13:40Thank you
13:42Thank you
13:42Thank you
13:43Yeah
13:43Because beyond the obviously huge success of the show
13:47I assume what's really gratifying is the response of audiences and people approaching you
13:54And conversations look don't get me wrong you know the awards and everything is wonderful
13:58And to be respected by your peers and admired by your peers and people who
14:02You know I watched you when I was you know you're a wonderful actor and you're a huge inspiration to
14:07me
14:08Do you know what I mean?
14:08I remember the play you did with Lenny Storm Damage which was wonderful absolutely brilliant and it was beautiful
14:14Yeah
14:14And that was raising social awareness back then do you know what I mean?
14:17And it was a fantastic play Ashley Walters as well
14:20Yeah yeah yeah
14:20And it was a brilliant play brilliantly written brilliantly acted and brilliantly you know it was a wonderful piece
14:24So for me to be a part of work like this which has a social conscience and can have an
14:30impact
14:31Look there's many supermarkets but Tesco's and
14:34That's where I shop more regular
14:35I'll be in Tesco's and just getting a shopping and bits and bobs and a fellow will come up and
14:40they'll just say thank you
14:41Thank you for the conversation that I had with me lad the other day
14:44Yeah
14:45We watched your program and you know we started to have a conversation about stuff and we've never opened up
14:50to each other like that
14:51Yeah
14:51And that to me you know that's that's it that you've achieved every more than you can even dream of
14:56Yeah I mean what a gift to parents
14:58Yeah
14:59It's such a hard conversation to ever have
15:01Of course yeah with any parent you know what I mean it's a very difficult conversation
15:05And now it's inspired a book I think I've got an advance copy here
15:08It was a lovely feed that that was a lovely feed
15:10There you go
15:11That's why you're brilliant at your job
15:13This is letters to our sons and these are real letters that you've collected from fathers
15:19Yeah it was it was an idea of a you know a friend of mine Judy who I've known for
15:23years
15:24She she worked for a publishing company and she she came up with this idea and this concept through another
15:29woman called Orly
15:29Who's got her son herself and they approached me and I just thought it might be a really good opportunity
15:36For fathers to be able to write letters to their sons you know sometimes it's difficult to talk about things
15:41isn't it?
15:41But if you can write it down you know there's nothing better than the paper
15:45Yeah
15:45The pen and the paper to be able to express your feelings to your sons
15:48And also I presumably because of some really different experiences different relationships
15:53Huge huge you know the scale of its massive some of them are really funny
15:57We got quite a few from men in prisons, which was brilliant, you know
16:00We reached out right across the board and I'd say it was from maybe bin men to barristers
16:05Do you know what I mean?
16:05So it's a it's a huge collection of letters
16:08I think I'm very proud of
16:09Well, you can pre-order this now and the book is raising money for dad
16:13La soul and man up and don't forget you can see Steven in the good boy in cinemas from the
16:2020th of March
16:21Very good
16:27Thank you
16:28Thank you
16:28Thank you very much
16:29Thank you
16:30I know
16:33Katie Cuoco brings us a big glossy thriller. It's called vanished
16:38It's on prime all four episodes are out on Friday the 27th of February
16:42And here's a taste to get us in the mood
16:51It is so twisty turning
16:53There's lots of kind of big reveals and stuff
16:57So you put it on tell us too much about it
16:59Okay
17:00Tell us about your character and just how it starts
17:03Well, it's a lot on a train
17:04So yeah, he disappears off the train
17:07We spent some time in France and I spend most of it looking for Tom
17:12Which was I'm searching for him
17:15Yeah, and she starts kind of unraveling some
17:17Maybe she doesn't know her boyfriend as well as she thinks she does
17:21And it's great because it's just it's four eps and you're in
17:24I love a good four episoder
17:25In and out
17:27You don't have to commit too much time
17:29Yeah, it's fast
17:31Not 12 years
17:31No, not 12 years
17:34Not that long of a commitment exactly
17:36I'll change my hair
17:38No one will care
17:39It's not so care
17:40Yeah, it's fast moving and it looks beautiful with France in the background
17:43No, that was what I was going to say
17:44So there's the plot
17:45Yeah
17:45But then there's the settings
17:47Yeah
17:47It's just gorgeous
17:48But you weren't that keen on going to France
17:51I
17:51It's no, no
17:52I was excited to go
17:54I just had my child had just turned two
17:55So it was kind of like it was the first time I left, you know
17:58So there was that
17:59And then, you know, deciding do I bring her or my dog
18:02A big decision
18:03Brought the dog
18:04Got that taken care of
18:07It was fine, it was the best thing we could have done
18:09So, fuck it
18:10And then I'm like a really weird eater
18:13And so I don't like French food
18:14So that was tough
18:16Oh God
18:16I know
18:17Good noise everyone, well done
18:18Oh, I know
18:19We are European
18:21The French make some beautiful food, you know
18:24Listen, no one hates the way I eat more than me
18:28It causes me a lot of struggle
18:29Like I wish I liked more things
18:32But not just the food though
18:33Not keen on trains
18:35What's the problem with trains?
18:36Well, I
18:38This is not a great project for me
18:40Yeah
18:40So I
18:41I know
18:43I am
18:44I am not fun
18:45As you can see
18:46I get very claustrophobic
18:48And um
18:49Very nauseous
18:50So
18:51I guess I didn't realise we'd be actually on a train
18:54And if I just
18:55Did you read the script?
18:57I just kind of thought, you know
18:57Just sit there with
18:59Yeah
19:00You know, AI
19:01You know, whatever
19:02So
19:03But then I
19:04You know, and I also am not a big
19:05This is another thing
19:06I'm not a big preparer
19:08This is why I could never do a show like Adolescence
19:10I hate rehearsal
19:11That was probably a lot of rehearsal
19:13Is what I'm thinking
19:14Like a lot of
19:15Like a play
19:16Like a play
19:17That takes a lot of
19:18Three weeks rehearsal
19:19Oh my dear God
19:20Yeah
19:20That's a lot of work
19:25And it's impressive
19:26It's
19:26So, you know
19:27I realised
19:28When I had to get on the train
19:30And shoot these scenes on a moving train
19:33And I'm very claustrophobic
19:34It was very low
19:35And I was running up and down the train
19:37And
19:37I guess I just didn't
19:39I didn't think about that
19:40Before I
19:41Got on there
19:42But, you know
19:43It helped to cause me to be very dizzy
19:45And, you know
19:47Where is the talk?
19:48You know
19:48It was all very real
19:50You weren't acting
19:51You just
19:52No, I was really concerned
19:53No, seriously
19:54Where is Tom?
19:55Where is Tom?
19:56Get me off his train
19:58That was all I could think of
20:00So
20:00Are you going to do season two?
20:01Is there a season two?
20:04I want to stay on land
20:06OK, mixed reviews for France
20:08But I tell you who loves France
20:10Adrian Lester
20:11Because I didn't realise
20:12You are a French film star
20:14I
20:16He is
20:17A very
20:18A very early job I did
20:20Was playing an American record producer in a film
20:22French film
20:23And the weird thing was
20:24I
20:26I auditioned for this film in English
20:28Met the director
20:29And he said
20:30Very good
20:30And did my audition
20:31And he said
20:31When can you start?
20:32And he picked the date
20:33Ten days shooting
20:34And I went over
20:35And I met the other actors
20:37And
20:37We did this read through
20:39And went through the scene
20:41And I said my lines in English
20:42And then he said
20:43No, no, no
20:44And someone came over with the script
20:46Oh no
20:46No
20:46And the
20:47Oh yes
20:48No
20:49And the lines were in French
20:51French
20:52That is a nightmare
20:53And I
20:54I can't believe
20:55We hadn't worked that out
20:56Do you know what I mean?
20:57And I thought
20:57You're playing an American record producer
20:59Of course
20:59Okay, you speak English
21:00You know
21:00I got to the set
21:02And it's French comedy
21:04Like Comédie Francaise
21:04So they speak really fast
21:07And we're in the scene
21:09And it's like
21:12And then I went
21:13And there was a gap
21:17And then I went
21:19Oui, bien sûr
21:25And I went
21:29And said my line
21:30It was okay
21:31But
21:32Shooting
21:33We've got a clip
21:36I haven't seen this film
21:37Have you never seen it?
21:39Have you never seen it?
21:40Have you never seen it?
21:40Have you never seen it?
21:41So, look
21:41What I'll tell you
21:42What I'll tell you
21:44No, you're very good in it
21:45So, it's called
21:47Les Sœurs Souleits
21:48The sun system
21:49The clip
21:49The clip
21:50The clip
21:50We're showing
21:51It features
21:53Adrian
21:54As the American record producer
21:55A woman
21:56Doing some of the worst lip syncing
21:58I've ever seen
21:59Oh my god
22:00And
22:00Keep your eyes peeled
22:02For one of the most surprising
22:05Cameos
22:06I don't know if it's a cameo
22:08But it's
22:08It's
22:09You do not expect to see this
22:11First time
22:11In a French film
22:12Here we go
22:13This is Les Sœurs Souleits
22:14Featuring Adrian Lester
22:17Can we
22:19Can we
22:20Can we
22:20Can we
22:20Can we
22:21Can we
22:22Can we see the kangaroo again?
22:24Can we see him?
22:25Why?
22:26We need to talk about that
22:27That is ridiculous
22:30Why
22:30Why
22:30Why is it a kangaroo?
22:32He's very invested
22:33Yeah
22:33He's
22:34It's a really good
22:35Look at it
22:36He's really looking
22:36Yeah
22:38He's practised
22:39He's practised his walk
22:40And everything
22:42That's another thing you should ask
22:44Apparently
22:45Am I speaking French?
22:46He's got
22:46He was a
22:48For some reason
22:50The husband and wife
22:51In the film
22:52They had a pet kangaroo
22:54And we were doing
22:55We did a scene
22:56In this
22:57This scene
22:57And we had to
22:59Do retakes
22:59Because the kangaroo
23:00Jumped onto the mixing desk
23:03There was a moment
23:04When it was
23:04And I'd waited
23:06And I went
23:08DUNK
23:10Coupe
23:10It was
23:12Strange
23:13Now
23:13I'm asking this question
23:15And the answer
23:16Could be yes
23:16Kaylee
23:17Do you own a kangaroo?
23:18Well it's funny
23:19Is I
23:22I would love to
23:23I have a lot of weird animals
23:24But I would love to get a kangaroo
23:26Yeah
23:27Now that I just saw how focused
23:28And work related he was
23:30Still
23:30He really is
23:31Still
23:32No I have a lot of strange animals
23:34I have a farm at home
23:35And we have
23:37We have
23:37All types of farm animals
23:38We have some very unique animals too
23:40Pigs and goats
23:41You've got something called a zonkey
23:43We have a zonkey
23:43Everyone thinks it's a myth
23:44It's real
23:45We have a picture of a zonkey
23:48It's half zebra
23:49Half donkey
23:50She's real
23:51Is that an accident?
23:52Yes
23:54You shouldn't do that
23:55No
23:56No
23:56That has to be an accident
23:57That's why I saved it
23:58Yeah
23:59Yeah
24:00Now is a zonkey
24:02It's an accident between a zebra and a donkey
24:04No I get that but is the zebra
24:06Is the zebra the father?
24:08I was not part of that process
24:10So I just came in later
24:12Well no because all I know
24:13Because I wondered what a zonkey was
24:16So I looked it up
24:16He said he's wearing tights
24:18No it does look like he's wearing tights
24:19She does
24:20She does
24:21So a zonkey
24:22Yeah
24:22So if the parenting is the other way round
24:25Okay
24:26They're called a Deborah
24:30They're called a Deborah
24:31They're called a Deborah
24:32Not making it up
24:33Not making it up
24:34No
24:34Someone google that
24:36No it's true
24:37It's true
24:38Turn off your phones
24:38But it's true
24:40Why is it called a Deborah?
24:41Because if the donkey
24:43So if the donkey is a dad
24:45So if the donkey is a dad
24:45Or a mother
24:46It's just a different parenting
24:48Okay
24:49This is a zonkey though
24:50This is a zonkey
24:51Have you got two zonkeys?
24:52I have two zonkeys
24:53That's so
24:54Do they name?
24:55Like a horse
24:56They um
24:56They donkey
24:57You know
24:58They donkey
25:00You know
25:01Like a donkey
25:01Yeah, yeah, yeah
25:03They're a donkey
25:04This is a donkey
25:05This is a donkey
25:06This is a donkey
25:07They're kind of making a deep donkey sound
25:09What do they sound like?
25:10Wow
25:10How would that sound?
25:11Don't ask me
25:12It's like a, you know, not a nay
25:14It's a bray
25:14It's like they're like an eon
25:16You know, they're eons
25:16They're eons
25:17You know
25:18Okay
25:18Yeah
25:19He's so confused
25:21He's so confused
25:22They want to donkey the horse
25:23They're not the same thing
25:24They're not
25:25They're not
25:26They're different
25:27Very different
25:28Just a reminder
25:57You can see
25:59Yeah, and the last year in Stratford
26:00Yeah
26:00So is everyone coming
26:01So is everyone coming?
26:02Or is it just you?
26:03That's unconfirmed
26:04Oh, okay
26:05I won't pry
26:06I know
26:06Susanna Fielding is coming back as Roxanne
26:08Okay
26:09So that's confirmed too
26:10Okay
26:10Yes
26:10It's the two of you
26:11And if people, you know, don't know, tell us something about Cyrano de Bergerac
26:16And also, is this a new translation or a new adaptation?
26:20It's a new adaptation, worked from the original by Simon Evans and Deborah Stevenson
26:25And so it's a fresh one
26:28And it's the story of Cyrano de Bergerac is kind of, it's one of the most romantic stories ever written
26:35He's a poet, philosopher, fighter, he has a big nose, he's insecure about it
26:39And he's in love with a childhood friend, Roxanne
26:43But she doesn't love him, he's in the friend zone
26:46But she falls in love with his soldier friend, Christian
26:53And she wants Christian to write to her
26:56But Christian can't write
26:57He's terrible with poetry, he's terrible with language
26:59So Cyrano writes love letters on Christian's behalf for Roxanne
27:04And she falls in love with Christian because of his language and because of the letters
27:08And that's the way the triangle works
27:11It's so sad
27:11It is actually very funny, there's funny bits too
27:14Yeah
27:15And the fights are kind of doubly difficult because you're not just fighting
27:19No, I...
27:21There's a very famous bit in the play where someone insults Cyrano's nose
27:26And he says that's not good enough
27:27And he comes up with many insults himself
27:30And they're all rhyming
27:31Some of the miambic pentameters are a kind of poem
27:35Some of them are quatrains
27:36And he's really, really quick
27:38But in our production I'm fighting another character while I'm delivering this poetry
27:43Wow
27:44So we've worked out on each beat, parry, where the line comes, when I dodge, when I duck
27:49So we, I mean, we did a lot of rehearsal
27:51And the guy's back there you can see is Matt Mordak
27:55Who's a stunt trained actor and he is brilliant
27:57And we have to be so, the weapons are real, you know, they're dangerous
28:00And we have to be so exact with it
28:02And every word I say is timed to every movement he makes and my response to him
28:07Wow
28:07Have you ever hit him accidentally?
28:09Nearly
28:10Yeah
28:11Nearly
28:11And he's nearly...
28:12So far
28:14Nearly, we've never actually hurt each other
28:16Never actually made contact
28:17No
28:18And reading about your life, Adrian
28:20You grew up in Birmingham
28:21Yeah
28:21And that idea of acting and the stage and the theatre
28:26It did kind of change your life, having that available to you
28:29Yeah, yeah, it did
28:30I spent a lot of time at a place called the Midlands Arts Centre
28:32Where I could go
28:34I didn't, we didn't really have drama or that music really at school at all
28:38So the place I had to go to experience that was the Midlands Arts Centre
28:41And every summer, I joined the Birmingham Youth Theatre
28:44And every summer, every term break, I was just there
28:48And the people there were amazing
28:49This kid from a council estate up the road
28:51And they would just open the doors and let me come in
28:54And I could go to dance classes
28:56I've done Tai Chi there, ballet, puppetry workshops, learnt the piano a little bit
29:01You know, just everything to do with music and performance
29:04And I, from that, I just had this sort of spark
29:07And I just thought, I love this, I've got to keep doing it
29:09Wow
29:10Stephen, you had a kind of similar experience in Liverpool, didn't you?
29:13Starting young, on the stage
29:15Yeah, through school, but then with the Everyman Youth Theatre
29:17You know, for me, that changed my life
29:19Yeah
29:19Absolutely, there was a wonderful man
29:21And it is a real name
29:22Gerry Pantomime
29:23He...
29:24Is that really his name?
29:26It's not Gerry's true name, but that was the name
29:28He, you know, he used that name, Gerry Pantomime
29:30Yeah, yeah
29:30And I've said it often, do you know what I mean?
29:32Look, I was a kid in a little Adidas trackie
29:35And a pair of trainees and a Lacoste T-shirt
29:37And there was kids with pink hair
29:39There was lads with jeans on with a flower in the back pocket
29:42There was a huge community of kids from all over the place
29:45Do you know what I mean?
29:46And Gerry created this wonderful atmosphere where we could create stuff
29:50Yeah
29:50And it was a place to go and just be creative
29:53And for me, it absolutely transformed my life
29:56Yeah
29:56My new theatre
29:57And I wonder, Leo, did you resist becoming an actor because
30:01Your parents, you come from a theatre family
30:03Yeah, yeah, yeah
30:03It was in my family
30:05So I did
30:05It was kind of the last thing I wanted to do for some reason
30:07You know, even though I kind of grew up watching my dad on stage
30:11And my set-dad, it was...
30:14Yeah, I think they've kind of said
30:17Whatever you do, don't be a fucking actor
30:21So what were you going to do?
30:22I mean, I was going to be a...
30:24I kind of wanted to be a PE teacher
30:27My hero was always my PE teacher
30:30Aw
30:31And when did you decide not to do that?
30:33Jack Costello
30:33Oh, Jack Costello
30:34Yeah, real name
30:35Real name
30:36Yeah
30:36Great name, innit?
30:38I don't know, I just... I loved sport
30:40And so I just kind of wanted to do that
30:42But then I realised you need to be really...
30:44You need to get really good grades in science
30:48Which I didn't get
30:50Because where did, Katie, you also chose between sport and acting, didn't you?
30:54I did, I really thought I was going to be a professional tennis player
30:57That was like my dream
30:58Oh shit
30:59But not like a pipe dream, you were very good at tennis
31:00No, I was good
31:01Yeah
31:01I was good, I played very young and I played all through my juniors
31:04And travelled all over the nation and did all that stuff when I was...
31:08Serious then?
31:09Yeah, it was serious
31:10Oh
31:11And then, yeah, I kind of had to decide
31:13Because I realised being a professional athlete is a lot of rehearsal
31:17There's a lot of...
31:19There's a lot of...
31:19There's a lot of...
31:20A lot of practice
31:20A lot of practice, yeah
31:21A lot of practice, yeah
31:22Different kind of rehearsal
31:23So, yeah, I gave up on that dream
31:25But, yeah
31:26But also, I find it interesting, when you gave up on that dream, you gave up on it
31:30So I, yeah, I'm kind of... I'm very all or nothing
31:33I didn't want to touch a racket ever again
31:35I was... I played a lot
31:36Like, I travelled and I loved it and trained and all this stuff
31:39And so when I was done, I was done
31:41And I got my first TV show right after that
31:43And then I said, I'm not going to play tennis ever again
31:46And I really didn't
31:47And then I just recently, actually when COVID happened
31:49I was like, I'm kind of good at this, I should do this again
31:53Because everyone was playing tennis
31:54Because you could like go outside, right?
31:55Yeah
31:56So I was like, I can do that
31:57So I started playing again
31:59And I was like, I could be an adult player now
32:02Yeah, you know
32:03It wasn't like riding a bike, were you just good again?
32:05I was very sore
32:06Like, everything hurt after
32:08Okay
32:08But, you know, I could play
32:09Yeah, and it felt good
32:10Was you competitive against it?
32:11That's the problem, it's the competitiveness
32:13Okay
32:13I am so not fun to play anything with
32:16I want to win everything
32:17So ten, it's like, not fun
32:19Yeah
32:20No one wants to play anything with me
32:21To play, games, nothing
32:22Oh, I love that
32:23I advise something like that
32:24I will beat you down
32:25I will ruin your life
32:28I will ruin your family's life
32:30I will ruin your family's life
32:32It's so dark
32:33That I just have to really
32:35I can't
32:36And none of my friends want to play with me
32:38Game night, they're like
32:39No one wants to be on my team
32:41So
32:41I want to win this
32:42Right now
32:44I don't even know how
32:45But I'm going to
32:46Oh, you're winning
32:47You're winning
32:47Because I'm going to win this somehow
32:52True
32:52You won
32:53It's an addiction
32:54Yeah, no
32:54Just everybody
32:56You can see Adrian Reprise's role as Cyrano de Bergerac
32:59At the Noel Coward Theatre in London
33:01From June
33:01Tickets are on sale now
33:03Yeah
33:07Right
33:09I turn to Leo Woodall
33:11There you are
33:12His latest series is called Vladimir
33:15It's coming to Netflix on March the 5th
33:19That gives you some idea
33:23Get it?
33:24Yeah
33:25So you
33:26You
33:26It honestly took me a minute to get that
33:30There's a difference between a horse and a donkey
33:33You have to say it again
33:35You have to bring that back
33:36No, okay
33:37So you are Vladimir
33:39Yes
33:40So who is he?
33:41And why is that the poster?
33:45And I can't
33:46I don't know why that is
33:48But um
33:49Vladimir
33:49It's about a
33:51An English professor
33:52At a university
33:54In
33:55I think
33:55On the east coast
33:56And um
33:58This younger
33:59Professor
34:00Joins
34:01Vladimir
34:02Vladimir
34:03Um
34:04And she kind of
34:05She develops a bit of a fixation
34:07A bit of a
34:07Sort of
34:09You know
34:10A bit
34:10A little mini crush
34:11But it
34:12It snowballs
34:13Yeah
34:13You've got an obsession really
34:16Couldn't you?
34:16I mean
34:17Yeah I didn't want to say obsession
34:18But I'm glad you did
34:19Yeah
34:20And the
34:21Professor is played by Rachel Weisz
34:23Yes
34:24What a great actor
34:24All
34:25Yeah I mean
34:26All the men in my life now
34:27Hate me
34:29Most of the women as well
34:30Yeah
34:30Yeah
34:32She's wonderful
34:33Yeah that was
34:34That was a lot of fun
34:34I mean poor woman
34:35She had to
34:35They were like
34:36This isn't really a spoiler
34:38There's quite a lot of
34:39Moments where she snaps into a sort of fantasy
34:42And it's
34:44Maybe like a part of my ear
34:46Or my knee
34:47And so you know
34:50This incredibly seasoned respected woman is now just staring at my knee
34:55And like
34:56You know
34:57Gazing at it
34:58And has to do it a sort of 25 times
35:02Well listen we've got a clip
35:03This is you with Rachel Weisz
35:05And her husband
35:06Played by John Slattery
35:12Did your arms hurt in that scene?
35:15Dude I wanted to say that
35:16You make a choice
35:17You make a choice
35:17And you have to do it for like eight hours
35:19It was so uncomfortable
35:20Did you make that choice?
35:21Yeah I thought so
35:22That's what I was thinking
35:22I was like his arms can't feel good right here
35:24And I was thinking
35:24He must be really wrinkly now
35:28Yes and yes
35:29Yes and yes
35:30All of the above
35:31And in a lot of pain
35:33Yeah
35:33And in this you're acting with the great Rachel Weisz
35:36Yes
35:37But in Tuner
35:38A movie you have coming out in May
35:39Yeah
35:40You work with a legend
35:42You work with Dustin Hoffman
35:43Yeah
35:43Yeah
35:44Yeah
35:45There he is
35:46Oh wow
35:47That was actually a really funny day
35:48Because we do these house calls
35:50And he
35:51You play piano tuners
35:52We play piano tuners
35:54We go to these big houses
35:55And he whatever
35:57And so the camera's pointing at us
35:58And he
35:59Obviously there's no character
36:02Behind the camera
36:04So he just kind of looks up and goes
36:06Hello
36:08And then realises that the camera is the sort of character
36:11And he just kind of dips his head
36:13And he goes
36:13I would like one more
36:14Yeah
36:16It was really sweet
36:17It was wonderful to work with
36:19It was so charming
36:19It was very
36:20It was so surreal
36:21It was so surreal
36:22Tuners out in May
36:24And Vladimir starring Anita Woodall
36:26Is on Netflix from March the 5th
36:29Excellent
36:29Okay
36:32It is time for music
36:34This Brit and Grammy award winning band
36:36Have sold over 40 million albums worldwide
36:39Here performing Orange County
36:41It is Gorillaz featuring
36:43Kara Jackson and Anoushka Shankar
36:46Come on over
36:48I think Damon you're coming over
36:50Anoushka
36:51Kara
36:52Come on over guys
36:55So beautiful
36:56Hello
36:58Congratulations
36:58Very nice to meet you
37:01Hello
37:01It's been a minute
37:02Come in
37:03Come in
37:03Come in
37:03Come in
37:07There's everybody else
37:08Thank you so much for that beautiful performance
37:11Sit yourselves down
37:13And that gorgeous song is off the new album
37:17It's called The Mountain
37:19And it's out on the 27th of February
37:22Yay
37:22Come on
37:23Give it a applause
37:26And Damon welcome back
37:28It's been a minute
37:29Thank you
37:29I mean I've
37:30You know you just haven't invited me back
37:33Well you're here now
37:34I am I remember the last time I came out
37:36Oh what happened then
37:37To cajole you in a nightclub
37:38To get you get
37:39Do you remember that?
37:40I want to hear more about cajoling
37:41I was in a nightclub
37:42Yeah I was in a nightclub with you
37:44And I was like
37:45Why am I never on your show?
37:48I have no recollection of that
37:50It must be
37:51It must be quite dry
37:52It was one of those nightclubs
37:53Yes
37:53It must be
37:54How funny
37:55Well I may have blanked it for my mind
37:57Of course
37:58The awkwardness
37:59But listen Anoushka
38:00How did you get involved in this project?
38:02I tend to be a little mindful about the cross-cultural collaborations
38:06Like are we entering another like flying carpet incense LSD moment
38:10You know
38:10So when people reach out it's a bit like
38:12Let's see what this is about
38:13But it was gorillas
38:14And they've always approached collaboration a certain way
38:17So I kind of knew that going into it
38:19But then I was really really like
38:22It was just a great recording day
38:23I spent the day with you
38:24You know that
38:25You were there
38:27I was kind of there
38:29Not there
38:29I was just kind of going
38:30Just looking at you
38:31Well no but it was
38:33It was really from the ground up
38:34Like he was there for the whole day of recording
38:37Which sometimes you would think wouldn't happen
38:39On a day
38:39No seriously it was nice
38:41And I just wondered watching it
38:42It's sitar
38:43Yes
38:44So because your dad Ravi was so famous
38:46It's more like that
38:47Yeah
38:47Was so famous
38:48I mean you can play it like that
38:49Did you resist
38:50Did you resist playing it
38:51Or did you start playing it from a very young age?
38:53My parents did that really brilliant South Indian thing
38:55Like South Indian South Asian Indian thing
38:57Of um
38:59No one's going to force you to play
39:00You don't have to play if you don't want
39:03Of course we will be very disappointed if you don't
39:05Yeah
39:06But
39:07It's totally your choice
39:08So I was like I'll keep trying I guess
39:11And so I kept playing
39:12And luckily for me I did it long enough that I fell in love with it
39:15And that was that
39:16And Kara
39:17Am I right?
39:18You were
39:18Or are
39:20A proper gorillas fan
39:21Oh yeah
39:22I'm 26
39:23So I grew up
39:24You know listening to gorillas and blur
39:27And I don't usually admit this
39:30And I am now doing it on a very public scale
39:32But when I was younger I used to be on Tumblr
39:35I grew up in the Tumblr era
39:38And I had a whole blog dedicated to like classic rock
39:43And rock bands
39:46And so of course like you know blur was featured on my blog on Tumblr when I was like 12
39:53Wow
39:54Can I just ask you where did gorillas come from?
39:57What was the concept?
39:58Because me dad introduced me to gorillas
39:59Oh really?
40:00And he said you'll never guess who this is
40:01And it blew my mind
40:02Right
40:02I mean I think you're a genius I always have
40:03But where did that concept come from for gorillas?
40:06Thank you for letting me ask that question
40:08No
40:10It's an open forum Stephen
40:11It's an open forum
40:12Thank you
40:12I was living with Jamie Hewlett the cartoonist
40:15Yeah
40:16And literally we were sitting on a sofa
40:18Not dissimilar to this one
40:20And I bought this Panasonic eight channel flat TV
40:27Like maybe the first second one in the country
40:30And so we just had this empty flat and this huge great television
40:33We were just watching just endless stuff you know
40:37And we kind of came to the conclusion there was a lot of manufactured stuff out there
40:41So let's do something really kind of interesting with manufacture you know
40:47And kind of the artificial you know
40:50And you created them characters and put them together in the band
40:52Yeah
40:52And we should tell everyone gorillas are going on tour
40:55You're doing your biggest ever gig I think Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
40:59It's a music large music venue in North London
41:03Yeah
41:05LAUGHTER
41:07LAUGHTER
41:07LAUGHTER
41:09LAUGHTER
41:10He's not a fan
41:11LAUGHTER
41:13All right
41:14Well listen
41:14Thank you so much for that performance
41:16Good luck with the tour
41:17Good luck with the album
41:18Kara, Anoushka and Damon
41:21And give it up for Gorillas everybody
41:22APPLAUSE
41:26That is it for tonight
41:28No time for red chairs I'm afraid
41:29So please thank the rest of my guest Leo Woodall
