00:0134 autistic and neurodivergent adults from all over Ireland have gathered in
00:06Dublin's Docklands for a television program like no other.
00:10Welcome to the Assembly.
00:11If you had a magic button that could go back in time, is there anything you could change about your
00:15life?
00:16What are some words that you live by?
00:17Do you still stand by those remarks?
00:22This location has been specially chosen to suit our cast.
00:26There are no lights, they're free to come and go as they please, and they share the space with the
00:31crew.
00:35What do you think we should be asking?
00:38What brand of tea do you like?
00:40When your time at RTE came to an end, did you feel supported or let down by the nation as
00:44a whole?
00:45Put that cookie down now!
00:48Do you think you're still one of the sexiest men in Ireland?
00:56There's no script, no rules, no secrets.
01:00This is an offer you cannot refuse.
01:03The team has been busy researching today's subject.
01:06They are ready for action.
01:08Welcome to the Assembly.
01:17OK, and here I am.
01:18I am excited to see my reaction growing up seeing Ryan Turbity on the toy show and actually seeing him
01:24face to face.
01:25I wonder what happens when those two worlds collide.
01:32I'm more excited being Ryan Turbity as I've only ever seen him on the telly, so it would be really
01:38good to know what he's like in person.
01:41Should I be this nervous or is that normal?
01:44I presume it is. It's been a while.
01:48I never really liked the toy show, to be honest.
01:50I just always found it a bit childish and not me, so.
01:58I was hoping something like Jack Black or Adam Sandler is, but no, that's fine.
02:02You know, beggars can't be choosers. That's completely fine.
02:04Hello. How are you?
02:06Hello. You must be Ryan Turbity.
02:08I'm Ryan Turbity. Nice.
02:09To interview someone that you've seen interviewing people, like, back, like, over years, then, like, it's mad-like.
02:17I got something for you.
02:18What have you got for me?
02:18It's a LEDT light candle. It's very cool.
02:20Thank you. That's very thoughtful of you.
02:22You're very welcome, Ryan. It is nice to meet you.
02:24What's your favourite thing in the world to do?
02:26I was doing swimming. I was at Special Olympics Team Dundalk.
02:29Congratulations.
02:30Oh, thank you.
02:30We have another friend. Hello.
02:31Hiya. I'm Una.
02:32Hi, Una. I'm Ryan.
02:34Nice to meet you.
02:35Nice to meet you.
02:35Nice to see you.
02:37Hi.
02:37What's your name?
02:38My name is Aided.
02:39You don't look like you're going to jump out of your seat.
02:42Ryan.
02:43You are as tall as people say to me.
02:44Oh, come on. Don't be mean. Don't be mean.
02:49Welcome. To kick us off today, we have the wonderful Niamh.
02:54Hi, and you're very welcome to the assembly.
02:57We are a group of autistic and neurodivergent interviewers.
03:00The rules are, well, what rules?
03:03Just relax and have a very good time as literally anything can happen.
03:07So, for our audience at home, could you please introduce yourself?
03:11My name is Ryan Tuberty, and the rest is history.
03:17I am whatever anyone thinks I am.
03:21Honest to God.
03:22Everyone has divergent opinions as to who or what it is that I do or am.
03:27So, let's just see where the road takes us.
03:29How about that today?
03:29I am your guest in your house, so let's have some fun.
03:33So, our first question today is going to be from Adam.
03:37Loving that shirt.
03:38Love that shirt.
03:38Thank you very much.
03:39How did you stay grounded and deal with your mental health during the RTE scandal?
03:46With difficulty.
03:48I had an enormously beautiful family.
03:52I think I adjusted what was important in my life the other day.
03:56I was trying to explain it to somebody.
03:57And I said I was chasing the wrong goal for a long time.
04:01I was chasing things I didn't need or want or necessarily appreciate.
04:07So, that difficult time, I found the good things from it rather than dwell on the bad.
04:13Take the positive from everything.
04:15That's a really nice way of putting it. Taking the positive.
04:18I'll go for an easy question now.
04:19Go on.
04:20Favourite place for a point of Guinness in Dublin?
04:22Why would you ask me such a hard question?
04:27Okay.
04:28No, I mean, look, I give it, it's a straight shoot.
04:30In Dublin, I love O'Donoghue's on Marion Row because the crack and stuff.
04:36Actually, I was in O'Donoghue's at Christmas time and something happened.
04:39All these people in their mid-twenties, I'm sure there's loads of you in your mid-twenties,
04:43started coming up to me and then a queue forms, right?
04:46And here's what they kept saying.
04:47Can I just say?
04:49Okay, yeah.
04:49Have you had a few drinks?
04:50Yeah, I've had a few drinks.
04:51But it doesn't matter.
04:52Can I just say, you're our Christmas?
04:54Because of the toy show.
04:55And I said, oh my God, that's so nice.
04:57And, you know, we were up in Donegal and the same thing happened in a pub.
04:59A queue formed.
05:00All these 20-somethings wanted to say, get a, because they go, the toy man.
05:04You know, he's the toy man.
05:06I feel that's such an honour and I love that.
05:10See, you've got to understand, what's really interesting about London, and I'm there 18 months, 19 months there,
05:14at first it was really tough because I was just trying to find my way.
05:17So I come from being, in Ireland, being very well known.
05:20And that's not meant to be a flex.
05:22It's just, it's just a matter of fact.
05:23You present the lady later, you know, that happened.
05:26I got on the tube the day after I arrived in London.
05:28Spending my whole life going, okay, who's having a look?
05:31Who's going to take the phone out for a picture on the sly?
05:34Or who's going to ask me something?
05:36Suddenly I'm on the tube going, no one gives a flying flute.
05:40And I had to really adjust.
05:42I've been walking down the street, right?
05:44On a street in London.
05:45And I'd be walking down like Cocky Joe going, here he is.
05:49And then beep, beep.
05:50And I go, hey, hey.
05:50And it was kind of bust telling somebody to get out of the way.
05:53Like, because I was so used to people beeping to say hello.
05:55So now I'm a ghost in London, which is great.
05:58You are now going to hand the mic to Dean.
06:01Oh, boy.
06:01Hi, Dean.
06:03How are you, Tubzer?
06:03How's it going?
06:06I love that.
06:07I love your shirt.
06:09My question is, in your opinion, what was the best point of your career?
06:16There's a great song by Frank Sinatra, which goes, it goes, the best is yet to come.
06:21And won't that be fine?
06:23I might not have got there.
06:24I might not have got there yet.
06:25I've reached a very happy point in my life.
06:29Professionally, I'm happy.
06:30But personally, I'm happy.
06:31My girls are great.
06:32I'm very happy.
06:33My personal life, family are extraordinary.
06:35Got a great job working with great people.
06:37So things are going nicely.
06:39But if you ask me to date what has been the best bit, I would say probably the toy show.
06:45I really mean it.
06:47I loved doing that show.
06:48It brought so much joy to people's lives, including my own.
06:51Everyone won.
06:53And the people who are cynical, and the people who don't like me, and there's plenty.
06:59Like I'm not trying to do poor me, but there are plenty.
07:01And I understand that entirely.
07:03But everyone seemed to switch off the cynical button that day and say, look, he gives me
07:07a pain in my face, but this is good.
07:08So yeah, toy show.
07:09And now you're going to pass the mic to Una.
07:14How are you?
07:15I'm not too bad.
07:16What was your favourite toy show theme?
07:20Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
07:21Me too!
07:21It's really quite atrocious.
07:22If you say it loud enough, it really is atrocious.
07:25Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
07:27Right.
07:28Dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum
07:30-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum.
07:31Can I say something to you?
07:32Do you remember one year on the toy show, you broke a kitchen, a toy kitchen?
07:36Yes.
07:37Okay.
07:38So, what you got to understand is, like, you get so giddy doing that show.
07:41We just ran riot.
07:42It was great.
07:43All the adults, and I wasn't one of them, used to go, sweet Jesus, like, how is this thing even
07:48a thing?
07:49It's just so mad.
07:50Now we've got Frank up next.
07:51How are you, Frank?
07:52Hello.
07:53How's the crack?
07:54Great.
07:54Where are you from?
07:56Originally from Hamburg, but I've lived in Sligo for 30 years now.
07:59Hamburg, did you say?
08:00Hamburg, yeah.
08:01Oh, fascinating.
08:02But I guess I'm not here to be interviewed myself.
08:07Six years ago, you patronized Greta Thunberg, speaking to the UN Assembly.
08:13Yes.
08:13By saying she should be home watching a movie.
08:16Yes.
08:16Which she probably would have done if her generation hadn't been let down by our generation.
08:22The following day you doubled down by claiming you were concerned about the mental health of the girl who was
08:28trying to save the planet, including our species.
08:31Do you still stand by those remarks?
08:33No, I don't stand by those remarks at all.
08:35Because I think with the passage of time you realize, no, you miscalled that.
08:39And you shouldn't be too small minded a person to realize, no, Greta has her ways and Greta has her
08:44thoughts and Greta is talking for a generation.
08:47And I think that it was a misread and a miscall.
08:49So absolutely accept that point.
08:50Yeah, that's great to hear.
08:52No problem.
08:52Dankeschön.
08:53Thanks.
08:53Well done.
08:55It's Mary.
08:56Hello.
08:57Good afternoon and welcome, Ryan.
08:58Thank you, Mary.
08:59Do you ever do any gardening?
09:01Yeah.
09:02I love it.
09:03I love it as I get older.
09:04I have a very, I live in a quite a small kind of muse house with a bit of, it's
09:08not much of a garden.
09:09It's a bit.
09:10I think when I'm, when I grow up, I'd like a real garden.
09:14What is your favorite ABBA song?
09:16There was something in the air that night.
09:19Fernando.
09:20Fernando.
09:21I was going to go Fandango.
09:23Flamingo.
09:25Fernando.
09:25Oh, Jesus.
09:28Flamingo.
09:28What's yours?
09:29Mama Mia.
09:31Here I go again.
09:32Yes.
09:32Mama Mia.
09:34Here I go again.
09:36Mama, how can I resist you?
09:39Yes, I've been broken hearted.
09:43Soon as the day we parted.
09:46Why, why did I ever let you go?
09:50Oh, it's amazing.
09:50Brilliant.
09:52Marion, that is brilliant.
09:54When you were questioned about the RTU scandal, you said the salary is a
09:58enormous, but that doesn't affect my soul.
10:01What did you mean by that?
10:08Virgin Mobile, proud sponsor of this show.
10:13Virgin Mobile, proud sponsor of this show.
10:21How are you all feeling?
10:22Great.
10:24Sive, are you ready to go?
10:27Hello, Sive.
10:28Hi, Ryan.
10:29How are you today?
10:29Very nice to meet you.
10:30Likewise.
10:31While I was waiting there, I was sketching you out.
10:33You're sketching me on your sketch pad?
10:35Yeah.
10:35Ooh.
10:37Yeah?
10:37Yeah.
10:38First of all, thank you for making me look slightly handsome.
10:45You've given me a jaw.
10:48God, I love me.
10:50Oh, no.
10:51You can keep it if you want me.
10:53I'd love to keep it, yeah.
10:54What an honor that is.
10:56Wow.
10:57That's really thoughtful of you.
10:59No problem.
10:59Wow.
11:00When you were questioned about the RT scandal, you said the salary is enormous, but that doesn't
11:06affect my soul.
11:07What did you mean by that?
11:09What does your soul look like?
11:10Well, my soul is quite a happy place, but not without its troubles and contradictions.
11:17And I just meant that anyone who presents that show is paid a lot of money.
11:21That's the fact of the matter.
11:22But just because somebody might be earning X amount of money shouldn't mean that they can't
11:26be a good person.
11:27And I felt that that needed to be said because things were getting lost in the noise and a
11:31lot of people were jumping up and down and pointing and saying things that weren't very
11:37nice and so forth.
11:37So I felt it had to be said.
11:39So that's why I said it.
11:41And up next is Sean.
11:43Well done.
11:44What kind of transport do you use when you're in Ireland?
11:47Hilarious.
11:47Great question.
11:48Do you know why this is so fun?
11:50Yeah.
11:50So when I lived here properly, I mean I'm here a lot, I had a really nice car that I
11:55loved.
11:56It was old.
11:56It's 20 years old, but I loved it.
11:58And it was a Jaguar.
12:00A Jaguar.
12:01And I loved it because it was, and then I realized it's like, it was kind of obnoxious,
12:05but I just, it was so old fashioned.
12:06And I loved Inspector Morse and I just loved the old world, but it was a lovely car.
12:11Anyway, now I drive a Ford Fiesta.
12:14A Ford Fiesta?
12:15Yeah.
12:16Yeah.
12:16My eldest daughter and myself share this car when I'm home and it's red.
12:20We call it Noddy.
12:21There was a time where that sort of thing mattered to me.
12:23It doesn't matter damn now.
12:24Yeah.
12:25Have you traveled much around Ireland?
12:27What is your favorite county?
12:29I don't have any problem telling you my favorite county is Galway.
12:32A lot of my family were from there back in the day.
12:36And I feel very grounded there and I've got family still over there.
12:39So Connemara, Clifton, Roundstone.
12:41I'm in heaven over there to be honest with them.
12:43I'm in heaven.
12:44Sean, well done.
12:46We're going to move along to Neil.
12:49So, what's the best dating advice you have been given?
12:51The best dating advice you have been given.
12:54Don't eat chicken wings.
12:56That's my dating advice.
12:57Come on.
12:57What?
12:59Yeah.
13:00I mean, look at it.
13:02What else do you do for a living?
13:04It's going down your arms.
13:06I mean, I mean, chicken wings, spaghetti, bolognese, slurp, slap, boom.
13:12You want to be dignified.
13:13You want to be dignified.
13:15Not eat like a barbarian.
13:16Thank you very much.
13:17Also nothing with garlic.
13:20But it is so spaghetti.
13:23So just watch what you eat.
13:25That would be the best dating advice.
13:27Emmet.
13:28Hi, Emmet.
13:29Oh, man.
13:32I'm nervous, but.
13:35Do you know something?
13:36I did a chat show for 20 years.
13:39I was nervous every single night.
13:42Take your time.
13:43There's no rush.
13:43I'm here for you.
13:45Thanks.
13:45Go for it.
13:48So basically, I was wondering, I was wondering, did you ever see yourself as a famous person
13:57or celebrity when you were a child?
13:59Yeah.
14:00Yeah, I did.
14:01Really?
14:01No, no.
14:02They used to have this thing on TV called like Airtel or CFAX.
14:06And this is the truth.
14:07I was about nine years old, right?
14:10And I'd watch this.
14:11And all it was was text.
14:12It was words.
14:13I would say the news today.
14:14I used to read it aloud.
14:16Imagining myself reading the news on the TV.
14:19Really?
14:19Yeah.
14:20So yes, I did.
14:21I did think that was the world I was going to go into.
14:23And then when I was a kid, I wrote a letter to the Irish Times.
14:26I was 12.
14:27And they published the letter.
14:29Yeah, I think I wanted to get into that world.
14:31I'm not sure why, but I felt I was a very curious person.
14:33And I felt it was a world that suited me.
14:34It was my kind of thing.
14:35I was very interested.
14:36I think if you're interested in the world, you'll never be bored.
14:38I don't like being bored.
14:39I think we can all agree on that.
14:41We don't like getting bored.
14:43No one likes being bored.
14:43So I'm living a lot of my life in London now.
14:46And it's just such an interesting time.
14:47Has anyone been to London?
14:48Constantly changing.
14:49Constantly changing.
14:50Do you know what?
14:50When you were doing that, I thought you were saying, move on.
14:55No, I know.
14:56Because when I worked in TV, somebody would be behind the guest going,
14:59that's enough now.
15:00And I thought you were saying, yeah, that's a nice story.
15:04I thought you were saying, yeah, that's kind of not that interesting.
15:06So let's move on.
15:08Thank you, Emma.
15:08Thanks.
15:09Well done.
15:09Hand it over to Aidan.
15:11All right.
15:12Bye.
15:12So how are you, Ryan Turbidi?
15:15I'm well, thank you, Aidan.
15:16Okay.
15:16Thank you for asking.
15:17How are you?
15:18Oh, Grant.
15:19So the first question is, I'm not sure if you look into a video game.
15:23So what kind of fighting game character would you love to play?
15:28Is it like Superman with enhanced strength and speed?
15:32Thunder guy like Raiden for Mortal Kombat?
15:34Super Karate guy like Bruce Lee?
15:36Or a manipulative evil person who can control everything?
15:40Like M Bison from Street Fighter.
15:42Oh.
15:42Ooh.
15:45Okay.
15:46So I don't do video games.
15:48Oh, yeah.
15:49And I'm sorry.
15:50I know I've lost the room.
15:51But I'm going to go with Mortal Kombat because even though I'm pretty much a pacifist and I
15:55wouldn't be, I think maybe some part of me sometimes just wants to go out and Mortal Kombat
15:58the bejesus out of it, you know?
16:00Oh, yeah.
16:00That's true.
16:01Get them through a queue.
16:02Yeah.
16:03Yeah.
16:03Thanks.
16:04Oh, yeah.
16:05Anyway, that's my answer to it.
16:07Okay.
16:07Aidan, thank you for that.
16:08We're going to move along to Amy.
16:11Ready, Amy?
16:12Hello, Amy.
16:13Hi, Ryan.
16:14How are you today?
16:15I'm great.
16:16Can I ask you some questions?
16:18The floor is yours.
16:20You're welcome.
16:20So one of my favorite movies is Jerry Maguire.
16:25Show me the money?
16:26And my favorite line is show me the money.
16:30You were bang on.
16:32I see that one of your favorite films is Goodfellas.
16:35What is your favorite line from that movie?
16:38Strangely, it's one of my, it's so violent and so beautiful and so extraordinary.
16:43The actor, Robert De Niro, Paul Sorvino, Joe Pesci.
16:47That's it.
16:47Funny How.
16:48That's the line.
16:48Do I amuse you?
16:50What?
16:50Do I make you funny?
16:51Yes.
16:52But I hope that answers your question.
16:54That was perfect.
16:55What's your big interest in life as a matter of interest?
16:57What do you like doing?
16:58I like spending time with my family and planning my wedding.
17:03What?
17:03Yeah.
17:04What?
17:06And can I ask you who the fiancee is?
17:09Declan.
17:10Declan.
17:10Can I ask you where you met?
17:11We met in college.
17:13He was doing the same course.
17:15And what was it about him that made you fall madly in love?
17:18That he was really sweet.
17:20Aw.
17:20And I had met him once and I said, yeah, he's mine.
17:23You knew immediately.
17:24Yeah, I said I want to be with him.
17:26Can I just say, Declan is the luckiest man.
17:28Yes.
17:29And I wish you every happiness.
17:32We're going now.
17:33Suited and booted.
17:33Jack, are you ready to go?
17:35Jack!
17:38First of all, it's an honor to meet you.
17:40Pleasure.
17:40Likewise.
17:41Thank you, Jack.
17:41And second of all, what's your thoughts on Trump?
17:43Like, I heard you're a big fan of America and politics.
17:45Uh-oh.
17:46I know, but listen, I'm not like, I'm on a neutral stance.
17:50Okay?
17:51I'm asking for his.
17:52Trump is extraordinarily popular.
17:54Yeah.
17:54He's extraordinarily popular.
17:55And hated.
17:56I know I'm extraordinarily popular.
17:57I know I'm extraordinarily popular.
17:58Yeah.
18:00Yeah.
18:01Good.
18:02It's good.
18:03He's extraordinarily popular.
18:04He was elected by a stomping majority.
18:07And that is what the American people have decided.
18:09Like, who are we to say we don't like your president?
18:11Yeah, we can.
18:12And you mightn't like him.
18:13I don't like a lot of things he says or does, to be honest with you.
18:16I don't like what he's doing to democracy, you could argue.
18:19Or a lot of people who have no great rights in the world are getting probably stamped on a little
18:24bit.
18:25I'm not a fan of any of that.
18:26But it's not my country and not my vote.
18:28And do you say not my problem?
18:30Possibly.
18:31Possibly.
18:31But our problem and our job politically is to keep an eye on who we elect.
18:37And who we decide gets into Leinster House.
18:40Yeah, for sure.
18:40Okay, so who do I invest it to?
18:41Well done.
18:42Thank you, Jack.
18:42And we now have Ella.
18:46Ella.
18:47Hi.
18:47I love your dress.
18:48You've got great style.
18:49It was my mother's.
18:51Was it?
18:51Yeah.
18:52She has great style.
18:53Isn't that amazing?
18:54Yeah.
18:54It's terrible when somebody asks me.
18:55I'm like, sorry, my mum got it somewhere in the 90s.
18:58I don't know where it's from.
18:59What can I say?
18:59No, but it's a compliment.
19:00Can I ask you some questions?
19:02Let's do it.
19:02What are some words that you live by?
19:04Perhaps once we look back on these things and laugh.
19:08When you're in the horrors, right?
19:10In life.
19:11When you're in the wars.
19:13In your private life.
19:14In your school life.
19:16In your college life.
19:16In your dating life.
19:17Or whatever it might be.
19:18And you're just thinking, I can't make head or tail out of it.
19:21There will come a point where you'll say, look, I know this is crazy.
19:25But one day.
19:25Hopefully we'll look back.
19:26We'll look back and say, Craig, do you remember how bad that was?
19:29And that's, that, that expression I think is lovely.
19:32It's a classic.
19:32On a similar note to yours.
19:33One of my favourite ones.
19:34It's actually a toast.
19:36It's an Irish.
19:38Even beautiful.
19:38Yes.
19:39It's that, that we may be alive in this moment again.
19:42That we may be alive in this moment again is lovely.
19:44Okay.
19:45To finish off.
19:45I'd like to say a poem for you.
19:46Can you tell us about the poem?
19:48Is it your own?
19:49It's not my own poem.
19:50It's to the West by William Percy French.
19:52My granny.
19:53She adored, adored William Percy French.
19:55I also have a really, a really great love for the West of Ireland.
19:58And I just feel so much peace when I'm there, similar to you.
20:00And this poem.
20:01You get it.
20:01You get it.
20:02So, to the West.
20:03The Midland Great Western is doing its best.
20:06And the circular ticket is safe in my vest.
20:09But I know that the holiday never begins
20:12Till I'm in Connemara among the twelve pins.
20:16The bank has no fortune of mine to invest
20:19But there's money enough for those I love best.
20:22All the gold I shall want I shall find on the winds
20:26When I'm in Connemara among the twelve pins
20:28Wow.
20:30And it's welcome I'll be
20:31For no longer I'll meet the hard pallid faces I find on the street
20:36The girl with blue eyes
20:37And the boy with brown shins
20:39Shall stand for their pictures among the twelve pins
20:44Tonight
20:45When all London's with gaslight a-gleam
20:47And the Carlton is filled with society's cream
20:52I'll be taking me Tay down at old Johnny Flynn's
20:56Safe
20:56And away
20:58In the heart of the pins
21:02Wow.
21:06I'll tell you I've never been moved by poetry before.
21:09Really?
21:09No, never.
21:10You know, and the choice poem.
21:12You're really there, you can feel it.
21:13Great.
21:14And then the fact that you moved to London with it then
21:16I was going, sugar this is my story.
21:17And I thought, I'm going to get that poem, frame that poem
21:22And I'm going to put it up in my little flat in London
21:24To remind me every time I see it of Ella and today
21:28And that lovely memory you've just given me right there.
21:29Thank you so much.
21:30That was incredible.
21:32Actual goosebumps, Ella.
21:33Thank you so much for that.
21:34When your time at RTE came to an end
21:36Did you feel supported or let down by the nation as a whole?
21:47Virgin Mobile, proud sponsor of this show.
21:52Virgin Mobile, proud sponsor of this show.
22:03Rebecca is going to take the mic from you.
22:06There's Rebecca.
22:07Hi.
22:07Nice to meet you.
22:09It's nice to meet you too.
22:10When your time at RTE came to an end
22:12Did you feel supported or let down by the nation as a whole?
22:15I have 2,000 letters in the boxes at home from Irish people.
22:20Cards and letters.
22:22And they kept coming one after another by the Bagelow to my house.
22:26They were addressed to Ryan Tuberty, Dublin.
22:29Ryan Tuberty, Dun Laoghaire.
22:31Ryan Tuberty.
22:32And the post people from on post just delivered them all one after another.
22:37And my dream is to write back to each and every one of them and say thank you.
22:41And I gave them to some friends of mine to have a look through and they cried.
22:46They couldn't believe how lovely people were.
22:47And people had sent in the cards, you know, here's a fiver for get yourself a coffee.
22:55Here's a packet of jellies and oh you love sweets.
22:59So I felt let down once or twice by people who probably could have been a bit better at what
23:03they did.
23:04But the people and everywhere I went were lovely.
23:07Honest to goodness.
23:08That's lovely, thank you.
23:10So I love musical theatre.
23:11I have watched the toy show my whole life like most people here.
23:15Absolutely love it.
23:16And I have a great question for you.
23:18Could I please sing the greatest show with you?
23:20Oh my god.
23:23Good luck.
23:26Wow, it's bringing it all back now.
23:28Tell me do you wanna go?
23:30Where it's covered in all the colored lights.
23:34Where the runaways are running the night.
23:36Impossible comes true, it's taking over you.
23:40This is the greatest show.
23:42We light it up, we won't come down.
23:46And the song can't stop us now.
23:49Watching it come true, it's taking over you.
23:52This is the greatest show.
24:00Well done, Rebecca.
24:01Will you pass the mic to Theo?
24:03I'm very impressed with your impressions.
24:06Well, I used to impersonate teachers as a kid.
24:09I can.
24:10Can you do any?
24:10Just, I can do Arnold Schwarzenegger.
24:13Put that cookie down, now!
24:18Beats me.
24:18But if I was a child, reaching for a biscuit.
24:21Do it again.
24:22Jar of biscuits, right?
24:23I'm three.
24:24I'm reaching in.
24:25Go.
24:25Put that cookie down, now!
24:31So, did you have any special accommodations for children with autism in the late, late show?
24:36And if you had someone with autism, what did you learn from them?
24:42As the late, late show progressed, it became much more inclusive.
24:46Initially, when I started it, it was lovely, but it was just kids who could show you with the toys.
24:52But then we started getting into, maybe kids who might have had a tough time at school.
24:56Kids who might have been homeless, actually.
24:58But we didn't, but we didn't point and say, this is the, this is the, this is the child.
25:02Never, never, never, never.
25:04We just said, who are you?
25:05And every child.
25:06The equality was, here you are.
25:09Just be yourself.
25:09Because I remember when I was in secondary school, I kind of got picked on a bit for being autistic.
25:15Do you know that kind of way?
25:16But like, I kind of turned around and done the talk on autism one day, and then suddenly, like, people
25:21did kind of change, you know, their opinion towards me.
25:24When you spoke openly about it?
25:25I spoke openly about it, yeah.
25:26Like, there was a lot of lads that, like, came up to me and were like, Jesus, I didn't know
25:30that about you and all that kind of stuff.
25:31When I was in school in the kind of early 80s, you never heard the word autism.
25:36Never heard it.
25:36Yeah, pretty crazy, but I'm hoping it's better.
25:39I'm not saying it's, it's fixed, but it's got to be better since you were in school.
25:43But anyway, I hope so, yeah.
25:44I don't know enough, so I'm not going to pretend.
25:45I don't know.
25:46Thank you very much, Ryan.
25:47You're welcome.
25:47Hey, yo, thank you so much.
25:49Courtney, pop up there.
25:52Hi, Courtney.
25:53Hello, Tubby.
25:54How are you?
25:56Tubby, I haven't heard for a while, but we'll take it.
25:58Um, do you know how many homeless people are in Ireland?
26:01No, I don't.
26:02Do you want to guess?
26:03I would say probably 24,000 to 25,000.
26:08So 15,000.
26:09Do you know how many homeless children there are?
26:11Absolutely not.
26:125,000.
26:13Yeah, 5,000.
26:13I mean, that's a shocking figure and it's a depressing figure.
26:17And can I ask you about why you're interested in that or what?
26:21Because I am part of that generation who can't afford houses.
26:26Yeah, yeah.
26:26Do you know what I mean?
26:27And like, I want to be a musician.
26:29I don't want a normal job.
26:30Yeah.
26:31So I've just made my life a million times harder.
26:33Do you know what I mean?
26:33I'm never probably going to enjoy working in an office.
26:37Do you know what I mean?
26:38I'm going to want to be on stage.
26:39So that just makes my finances an absolute nightmare.
26:42Do you vote?
26:43Oh, yeah.
26:44And that kind of leads into my next question.
26:46Okay, go ahead.
26:46Your family has ties to Finnafall.
26:48Yeah.
26:48How do you feel about their decision to raise the student fees by another 1,000 euro while
26:53we're still in a housing crisis and a cost of living crisis?
26:57I don't know.
26:58Because I'm not a politician.
26:59I'm not au fait with all of that.
27:00And if I was a politician and gave you that answer, you'd have full permission to say
27:04that's a disgrace.
27:05But I'm not.
27:05So I don't know enough about it.
27:07And I don't think my opinion really is that important.
27:09But I don't know enough.
27:11I can gather what you're saying.
27:12It's obviously not good and not nice and not fair.
27:14But I don't know enough.
27:16I don't want to spoof you with an answer.
27:17I don't know.
27:21Martin.
27:21Are you ready, Ryan?
27:23Martin, you know, I'm looking at you.
27:24I'm not ready for anything.
27:25Okay.
27:26Here we go.
27:28Okay, Ryan.
27:29What is your favorite dessert?
27:33My sister's Eve's pudding.
27:35Or my sister's port-a-cake.
27:37Or a pavlova.
27:39I have the palate of a child.
27:42I don't like posh food.
27:44I don't like posh restaurants.
27:45I don't like fuss.
27:47And people go, oh, it's a bit of a horse.
27:48It's a bit of a horse.
27:49It's a bit of a horse.
27:49It's a bit of a horse.
27:50Give me the coupons.
27:52I look at kids in restaurants and I go...
27:53Okay, we started...
27:55Sorry.
27:56I was going off on one there.
27:57Who is the nicest celebrity you have met?
27:59Ooh.
28:06Suddenly a flock of owls came into the room.
28:08Ooh.
28:10I always loved celebrities who were nice to people around me in the station or wherever I work.
28:19In other words, who were really kind to the receptionists and the security guys and the hair and makeup.
28:25I always think of someone like Michael Bublé.
28:27You know Michael Bublé?
28:28Oh.
28:29Yeah, no, no.
28:30Michael Bublé, the singer, you know, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
28:34Oh, yeah.
28:35Yeah, when he starts singing, everyone in the room just goes, ah.
28:39Oh, yeah.
28:40And no, he's lovely.
28:41So the point to my story is, he came in, he was lovely to everyone, he was funny.
28:46Michael Bublé is one of the just well-mannered, nicest people.
28:51Mm-hmm.
28:52Sorry, there you are.
28:53Oh, yeah.
28:54Is that enough for you?
28:55Yeah, thank you very much, yeah.
28:56Well done, Martin.
28:57And you are going to hand the baton over to Orla.
29:01Come on, Orla.
29:03Hi.
29:04Would you like to run in the presidential election?
29:09What do you think?
29:10I don't know.
29:12No, obviously no is the answer to that question, but it's a very important job.
29:16You want to say, okay, I'm glad they're there because they're going to represent us nicely
29:20and they're going to be able to talk and whatever.
29:22Okay.
29:22Appreciate it.
29:23You ready to hand the microphone over to Kristen?
29:25How are you doing today?
29:27I'm good.
29:28Yep.
29:30And Meghan Markle, what is she like?
29:34I met her for about four and a half seconds, and so I don't like to pretend she's my friend.
29:41In the bit I met her, she was really warm and charming.
29:47In the UK, they hate her.
29:49Like they treat her so bodily and so disrespectfully.
29:52They're so mean.
29:54Well, I just don't read it too much.
29:55I see headlines.
29:56And I also feel like they have an empathy for people who are jumped on by the media.
29:59I feel a bit sorry for them.
30:00So maybe there's a bit of that about it.
30:02Are you a Meghan fan?
30:03I'm a Meghan fan.
30:05I'm a Meghan fan.
30:05Andrew is going to come up next.
30:07Andrew.
30:09Andrew.
30:10No, should we?
30:10Hang on.
30:11Andy.
30:12Andy.
30:13You've got a blue suit and you'll look real cool.
30:23He's beginning to look a lot like a blue suit.
30:26Stop it now.
30:27Stop it.
30:30No, the first question is, if you ever had the chance, what would be your number one question
30:35to Elvis Presley?
30:37Do you want to know?
30:39Do you want to know?
30:40Do you want to know?
30:40Do you want to know?
30:40Do you want to ask you a question?
30:41Do you want to know?
30:44Oh, it's a long story.
30:45I love Elvis Presley.
30:46I was a member of the Irish Elvis Presley fan club.
30:50Oh, yeah, there was.
30:51Yeah, we used to go and see Elvis Presley impersonators.
30:53And myself and my pals are big Elvis heads.
30:55When all the guys in school were going to discos and stuff, we were just gathered around
31:01with a couple of guitars singing Elvis songs.
31:02So what would I ask Elvis?
31:04Yep.
31:05I'd just say, give us a song, pal.
31:06What's your favorite Elvis song?
31:08Do you have one?
31:09Oh, yeah, there is.
31:09There is one.
31:10Burning Love.
31:11Lord, I feel my temperature burning.
31:13Oh, yeah, noise.
31:14Your gaze is slimming higher.
31:17Like a sweet little love desire.
31:19And you light my burning sky.
31:21We're burning love.
31:22I'm just a hunk-a-hunk of burning love.
31:27I'm just a hunk-a-hunk of burning love.
31:29We go for the hunk.
31:30I'm just a hunk-a-hunk of burning love.
31:33Hunk-a-hunk of burning love.
31:33Hunk-a-hunk of burning love.
31:34Hunk-a-hunk of burning love.
31:34Wow.
31:35You're good.
31:36All right, and here's the final question, and I'll leave you off.
31:40Like, similar to Richard Nixon.
31:42Nixon.
31:42I am not a crook.
31:43Yeah, I know.
31:44Did you believe that the whole RT Paygate scandal had been completely blown out of potion?
31:50A lot of get out of control-like.
31:52Yeah.
31:52It was a terribly unfortunate, I think, to say the least, situation.
31:57And, you know, I could say a lot and bore you to death with the detail, but I'm not a
32:03big fan of poor me.
32:05And, like, poor me, isn't it terrible?
32:06People have bigger problems in the world than I might ever have in mine.
32:09So I see it as, looking back on it, as it just did brutal communications around the place.
32:17And a lot of avoidable situations happened there.
32:20But I also firmly believe in the rearview mirror.
32:23And I'm looking at that situation in the rearview mirror.
32:26I'm out of there a year and a half.
32:28I loved being in RT.
32:29I had a great time there.
32:30I worked with the best people in my life there, and I miss them.
32:32But I'm in a very, very good place in London.
32:36I've got a brilliant job.
32:38I've got great people I'm working with.
32:39And I created a second chance for myself.
32:43That doesn't mean I'll never be back in Ireland someday.
32:46But for now, I'm so happy and fortunate that the past is another country.
32:51Oh, you could just say, I have no knowledge of the event in question.
32:55Besides, you and me, let's just hop on the plane and go Viva Las Vegas.
32:59Viva!
33:01Viva Las Vegas!
33:04Thank you very much.
33:05Andrew has left the building.
33:06Andrew has left the building.
33:08Do you think you may be neurodivergent yourself?
33:14Erm...
33:19Virgin Mobile, proud sponsor of this show.
33:24Virgin Mobile, proud sponsor of this show.
33:34Philip, up your pop.
33:35How are you, Philip?
33:36How are you doing, Philip?
33:36How are you getting on?
33:37Erm, let's see.
33:39Do you think you may be neurodivergent yourself?
33:42Erm...
33:42You know, I could be.
33:43I don't...
33:44It's not something I'd be worried about or embarrassed about.
33:47Oh, no.
33:47As you know.
33:49People used to say, you're hyper.
33:51You know.
33:52And I'd say nowadays, if I was doing that, someone would say, maybe we should just have a conversation
33:56about this.
33:57You know, I'd say.
33:58But, erm, I think that if there is this, what they call the spectrum.
34:04Sure.
34:04I don't...
34:04Do you hate that word?
34:05Or do you...
34:06Er...
34:06I think it's oversimplified.
34:08Yeah, yeah.
34:09Many people tend to think it's kind of like a line from left to right, but it's really
34:13not.
34:14It's multidimensional.
34:15Gotcha.
34:15To say the least.
34:17Yeah.
34:17Well, this is the thing.
34:18I think that if you...
34:23I don't think I'm neurodiverse, but I also think people are neurodiverse.
34:29And some are more neurodiverse than others in different ways.
34:32Sure, sure.
34:33And I don't really like too much if somebody is claiming to be something and they go,
34:39oh, we're all the same.
34:40Yeah.
34:40We're all neurodiverse.
34:41No, we're not.
34:42Some people have different levels.
34:44So I just wonder about that.
34:45And that's your call as to when you see someone going, yes, I'm so neurodiverse.
34:49You're going, are you?
34:50You know, do you get bothered...
34:52Everyone's got their idea of it.
34:53Right.
34:54I wonder, do you get bothered when certain people say they've got certain things going on,
34:58or do you say, no, that's your thing?
34:59Well, like recently when Blind Boy, the podcaster, he came out as neurodiverse.
35:05And when I said that to my mom, he says he's autistic now.
35:08And she's like, don't let them take that away from you, bro.
35:11Yeah, they're all saying it.
35:12They're all saying it.
35:13Oh, that's great.
35:13I love that.
35:15I love that.
35:16Is that your mother?
35:17Yeah, yeah.
35:18Oh, wow.
35:18What's her name?
35:19Ann Kenny is her name.
35:20Ann Kenny, wow.
35:21She's the smartest voice not in the room today.
35:23I love that.
35:24Okay, so I'll round it up.
35:26Sure thing.
35:27How difficult was your divorce and what helped you to do that period of your life?
35:31I never talk about it.
35:32Oh.
35:33And not because it's to be rude.
35:35It's because it's unfair to people.
35:38You know, that's the bit where I say there's public and private.
35:41That's fair.
35:41And sometimes you just have to keep your...
35:43Absolutely.
35:43No problem.
35:44A little bit on those things because you don't want to upset anybody else.
35:47But I appreciate the question.
35:48Super.
35:49Okay, thank you very much.
35:50No problem.
35:50Billy.
35:54Hello, Ryan.
35:55My name is Billy.
35:56Hi, Billy.
35:56And most importantly, I'm from America.
35:59God bless America.
36:00Yep, that's right.
36:02Oh, yeah.
36:02New York!
36:04New York!
36:05New York!
36:11Wow!
36:12The city will never sleep.
36:14Yes.
36:15Well done, Billy.
36:17Well done, Billy.
36:18Thank you very much, Ryan.
36:19In 2009, you were voted one of the 19th Sexiest Man in Ireland.
36:28Do you think you're still one of the sexiest men in Ireland?
36:36One of them.
36:38You got that, did you?
36:39Yeah.
36:41There's a list.
36:44Who did I bribe?
36:46Thanks for your support.
36:49Yeah.
36:50No, I don't entertain such nonsense because it's just so silly.
36:55But yeah, I let the good-looking guys have fun with that.
36:59I'll just do my thing.
37:00I like being, I like the nerdy thing.
37:03I mean, I think that my tribe are, is a bunch of people who like movies and books and history.
37:13I think looks is, it looks to me, aren't top of the agenda.
37:17Thank God for that, eh?
37:19Oh, yeah.
37:20And now we're going to move on to Lara.
37:22Well done.
37:23Thanks, guys.
37:24Good luck, Lara.
37:24Thank you, guys.
37:25It's very kind of you.
37:26How are you?
37:27Hello.
37:28So I read that your grandfather, Todd Andrews?
37:31Todd Andrews.
37:32Yeah, Todd, yeah.
37:32Okay.
37:33Was an important figure in the Fianna Fall Party.
37:35Yeah.
37:36Have you ever considered running for election as a politician?
37:40Yeah, I have.
37:40I always looked at politics as very much a potential place to go at some point if I felt moved.
37:45Yeah.
37:46And then I ended up in Media World and that suits fine.
37:49But I'm currently, you know, 52 and a half.
37:52So what I've learned in life is, and I'm sure a lot of people here today feel the same way,
37:57life is not linear and you never know.
37:59So let's keep the wheels turning and see where the world takes us.
38:02You know, it would be ridiculous to say no to everything.
38:05Is that what you like to do?
38:07Well, you know, as I'm autistic, you know, we've had hard times over the years.
38:12Like I was really badly bullied.
38:14I had to leave school on medical grounds and all that sort of thing.
38:17Yeah.
38:18And, you know, things are tough at the moment.
38:21I'm sorry for that.
38:23Well, you know, I won't go into too much detail.
38:27Me and my mum and my sister, we support each other.
38:29The three of us, you know, we support each other.
38:31Did you ever watch a beautiful film or read a book called Little Women?
38:35Oh, Little Women.
38:36Yeah.
38:37Louisa May Alcott.
38:38Louisa May Alcott.
38:39Respect.
38:39But you know, I think that, as you're talking about your sister and your mum, I'm thinking of you guys
38:45supporting each other.
38:46Well, luckily none of us have ever got scarlet fever.
38:49So that's a good thing.
38:50Thank you for being such a great sport.
38:51Well, thank you.
38:52It's my honour to meet you today.
38:53Oh, thank you.
38:54It's an honour to meet you.
38:54Do you want a hug or whatever?
38:55I would love a hug.
38:56Come on then, for goodness sake.
38:57Let's do it.
38:58Oh, you're so lovely.
39:00You're lovely too.
39:02We're at the final question.

39:04Oh my God.

39:21buttons because I think I've made so many stupid mistakes in my life that

42:34didn't fully answer but that's to be expected as always it's gonna be the
42:38whole holla politician you're gonna try avoid it by bringing it somewhere else
