00:17New Orleans 9-1-1, what's the address of the emergency?
00:20I think it's at Leesonville, St. Claude, right when you get off the bridge.
00:23Looked like he hit the tree, all the airbags with the floor, and it looked like the guy
00:27in the car is dead.
00:29And what's your name?
00:30Can I say anonymous?
00:31I was just passing in the car.
00:34Hello, I need an ambulance.
00:35What is the address, ma'am?
00:38Okay, what's your address?
00:39I'm on Poland.
00:41Okay, Poland, and what else?
00:42I don't know, please.
00:44Hurry up, please.
00:45Can you please disrespect somebody?
00:47He's not going to make it.
00:49Ma'am, we have units en route, okay?
01:04Don't give up, baby, don't give up, don't give up, don't give up, don't give up.
01:10Come on, buddy.
01:15I guess he's going to save lives before he gets to the hospital, right?
01:17Stay on there.
01:18Yeah, I got you, Kevin.
01:19They're coming down pole, and he pulls up next to them.
01:22I don't know if they had some kind of argument or something.
01:29I was covering my baby as soon as I heard the shot go off, and then when the shot stopped,
01:34I looked at him, and then the car started going.
01:37So I heard up and jumped out the car with my baby, and the baby's father, he was still
01:42right there.
01:42He was like, get the f*** in the car before I kill you, too.
02:07There's been an aggravated battery by shooting in the 5th District, and from what I'm learning
02:11is it's an adult male that was shot to the head.
02:15The 5th District is concerned because the victim is in critical condition and is requesting
02:23homicide because they believe that the victim might pass away.
02:31I started my career in the 5th District.
02:33I was a patrolman there for four and a half years, and then I worked as a property crime
02:38detective and a person's crimes detective, so I know the neighborhoods really well.
02:42I've established relationships with a lot of the residents, and I have a really good working
02:50relationship with the officers assigned to the district.
03:09It's been about an hour since the shooting occurred.
03:12Non-lethal shootings are usually handled by the district detectives.
03:16I'm there to assist, I'm there to advise, but at this point I'm not going to be the detective
03:20in charge.
03:22There's a vehicle that has crashed into a tree.
03:26The vehicle impacted that tree really hard for all the airbags to be deployed.
03:33I'm seeing blood on the driver's side of the victim's vehicle.
03:39We see the ballistic damage to the interior of the vehicle.
03:42The male victim's gun laying on the grass.
03:57The victim's name is Evans Page.
04:00Evans Page is 27 years old and a resident of New Orleans.
04:05This is my first time in life, witnessed something like this, and then my kid was with me.
04:09My kid was on my lap when this happened.
04:11I literally, as soon as I heard the first shot, I didn't even know.
04:14I didn't know who shot what.
04:16It was so fast, I just ducked over my baby.
04:19I'm learning that there's a female that was present for the entire shooting, and a child
04:23that was involved.
04:25See, I think he's going to live, because that's my boyfriend.
04:30What's her name?
04:34What's baby daddy?
04:36Jerrell, J-E-R-R-E-L-L-E-D.
04:42So basically, the story is and Evans are out here, stopped minding their business.
04:50Jerrell shows up.
04:52An argument ensues, and then Jerrell will die.
05:00Jarrell Andrews is suspected of shooting Evans-Page during a domestic dispute.
05:20The surviving witness states that after the shooting, Jarrell Andrews still has the
05:25gun and tells her to get in his car, or else he was going to kill her, too.
05:29I heard her say that the car rolled forward and hit the tree.
05:35Now, Mike said that she got out of the car, right?
05:40But if she got out of the car, and I'm telling you, she wasn't in the front.
05:45And at first she told me, she said that they tried to take a U-turn, but then she told
05:49me
05:50that the car had stopped in front of her, and they had stopped, and they had gone to
05:55an argument, and the shooting happened right here, but then she told me the shooting happened
05:57over there.
05:59They're going to figure out where the surviving female witness was when Evans-Page was shot.
06:06The physical evidence shows blood spatter on the front passenger seat.
06:11Like, if you're in that seat, there wouldn't be blood spatter on that seat, because it would
06:14have gone on your lap.
06:15Let me have your phone.
06:17I'll take it.
06:18Okay, I know.
06:19No.
06:21You all going to be put in custody for right now?
06:25No, I'm going to do it.
06:26No, you're being detained.
06:28You told me some things that, and we need to have another conversation back at the station,
06:33so you're not free to leave right now.
06:34The surviving witness is being detained due to the inconsistencies in her statements.
06:40She's transported to the 5th District Station.
06:43She left with the suspect, which leaves some questions with us.
06:47Did she go willingly?
06:48Was she the one that gave the suspect their location?
06:52How did he find them, and how did she get away?
06:55Take her to the station.
06:56To the, yeah.
06:57So, where floor is your home?
06:58After he's done with the, um, the warrant for the car.
07:01We need to do a formal interview with her.
07:03We need to rule her out as being a participant.
07:12My name's Detective Michael Haynes.
07:14How you doing?
07:15Well, I think she could be alive then.
07:17Yeah.
07:18I'm good.
07:18I'm really sorry.
07:19Let's just happen.
07:21And I'm Detective Mike Flores.
07:23I see you, Detective Mike.
07:24I want to make it perfectly clear.
07:28You do not have to answer my questions if you don't want to.
07:31And at any point in time you don't want to answer a question, you don't have to.
07:34You understand that?
07:36Yeah.
07:36Okay.
07:38So, what happened tonight?
07:40Okay, so, we was at the movies.
07:43I got picked up from my house in, like, seven, 20.
07:47She said that she'd been in a relationship with Jarrell Andrews for approximately three years.
07:52She had an infant child with Andrews.
07:55On the night of the shooting, she says that she had gone out with Evan's page when she begins receiving
08:01text messages and phone calls from Jarrell Andrews demanding that she comes to pick up their child.
08:06I was like, let's just meet at, like, a public place.
08:10I even told Evan's that.
08:11I'm like, we can just go to the public place.
08:14There's people around, you know?
08:15We actually pulled up at the same time.
08:17Like, as I was getting a baby, he kept cursing at me.
08:20And Evan's never told him nothing.
08:22Not one time.
08:23The whole time he was cursing at me.
08:25The whole time that me and him was fighting and stuff.
08:27You know, I told him that he even pulled my hair.
08:29He grabbed me by my arm, scratched me, ripped my shirt and everything.
08:33You can see her shirts torn.
08:35You can see scratches on her arm.
08:37You can definitely tell that she's been through a horrific night.
08:40And then we was leaving and we left first.
08:45And then Jarrell pulled behind us.
08:47And I looked at Evan and I'm like, if he follows you, just try to lose him.
08:50Well, this man started going in and out of traffic, cutting in front of us, cutting on side of us.
08:55But we almost wrecked into him because that's how close it was.
08:57And you had the baby at this time?
08:59Yeah, I had the baby at this time.
09:01They pull over.
09:02Jarrell Andrews comes up to the car.
09:04He begins arguing with ______.
09:06Evan's page explains to Jarrell Andrews, you got an issue with ______.
09:11You guys can take it up later, but I got to get up at 4 in the morning to go
09:14to work.
09:15So Evan pulled over and asked him, he was like, hey, do you have a problem with me?
09:18Like, this is my first time meeting you.
09:20I told you nothing disrespectful.
09:22Can you get offside of my car?
09:24And then it was just like arguing.
09:26When they got arguing, he was like, you right?
09:27You don't know me, da-da-da-da-da.
09:29So I told Evan, I'm like, look, just put the car on, drive, and go.
09:33He's like, the car isn't driving.
09:34I'm like, then just go.
09:35Like, just go.
09:36But I was just like, hit that U-turner.
09:38It was the closest thing to us, you know?
09:40So I was just like, hit the U-turner.
09:41And we was going.
09:42The car was going.
09:43And I mean, just like this.
09:45Just as soon as we got sideways, I heard bop.
09:48The first time, the first shot that I heard, I hurried up and ducked my baby because I didn't know
09:52who shot.
09:53I didn't know who shot.
09:54So I just ducked over my baby like that.
09:56And then I heard like three more.
09:58Bop, bop, bop, bop.
10:13As soon as I heard the first shot, I'm just comfortable with my baby, ain't there?
10:16And where was Jarrell when he actually started shooting?
10:19In my passenger window.
10:22Okay.
10:23She confirms Jarrell Andrews is the alleged perpetrator.
10:27As I'm hearing the story, I'm believing her story more and more.
10:32I believe that she's just gone through a really, really difficult, hard night that's very traumatic for her.
10:38My first incident was to jump out the car.
10:40And this man is walking back to his car.
10:43And he's like, get the f***ing Nicole with me before I kill you two.
10:48When she described jumping out, that clarified a lot of stuff for me.
10:52Knowing that the airbags went off and they come out at like 200 miles per hour,
10:55his head's limp because he's been shot.
10:58He's lost consciousness.
10:59Clearly, her head's going to be pushed to the side,
11:01which caused the blood spatter to be on the front passenger seat.
11:05At this point in time, I believe my surviving witness is a victim of this crime.
11:09And I do not believe that she had anything to do with it at all.
11:12So, as we were driving, I'm like, f*** this, I'm about to call the police.
11:16I called 911.
11:18And I was in the car with him the whole time.
11:20So, I was like, I made up a little lie.
11:23I'm like, hey, I was just passing and I seen somebody hit a tree.
11:28911 was the address of the emergency.
11:44From what the female victim said, Jarrell Andrews drives her to another location.
11:52We learned that the child is safe and did not have to go to the hospital.
11:56I'm like, this f*** stupid bitch shot Evans.
11:59Yeah.
12:00And he's like, why the f*** you stay in my business?
12:02I'm like, because you didn't have to harm that man.
12:03That man was not harming you.
12:05Like, that man did not never tell you on nothing uncomfortable.
12:07He said, I felt threatened.
12:09That man did not never once touch the gun.
12:11Never.
12:12And then my kid was with me.
12:13My one-year-old little boy was with me.
12:16Like, you don't have enough respect for your son.
12:18Yeah.
12:18Like, that's how you did that?
12:19It's right, you're a f***ing kid?
12:21Yeah.
12:21I'm sure she was absolutely terrified.
12:23But, of course, she got in the vehicle with Jarrell Andrews.
12:27Despite what the witness is saying,
12:29there is no concrete evidence at this point
12:31indicating or tying Jarrell Andrews to the shooting.
12:35Can you send him to the ring?
12:38Just keep in our parish today.
12:39Oh, okay.
12:41Perfect.
12:42It feels perfect.
12:43As soon as Jarrell Andrews left the location,
12:46that female victim went back to the crime scene.
12:48Oh, boy.
12:51She doesn't know where Jarrell Andrews went.
12:54She's concerned because he's still out and he's still armed,
12:56as far as she's aware.
12:58I've never thought of you.
13:00You're a f***ing kid.
13:01My next steps are going to be to confirm everything that she's said.
13:06While I believe her, I need confirmation.
13:08I need video from anywhere and everywhere I can get.
13:12I'm going to try and get all the information I possibly can on Jarrell Andrews.
13:38This was supposed to be a normal child exchange
13:42that turned into a domestic violence situation
13:44and then turned into a shooting incident.
13:48A victim is in very critical condition.
13:50He's currently on life support.
13:52He's not expected to make it.
13:55He took two shots.
13:56He took one to the head.
13:58He took another one to his arm,
14:00which is, at this point in time,
14:01is suspected to be done with a 410 shotgun shell,
14:05but that can be fired in handguns as well.
14:09By the time we got out there,
14:11the scene had been processed already.
14:13An aggravated assault or an aggravated battery by shooting
14:15is processed a little bit differently.
14:17They don't sketch the crime scene.
14:20I was able to come out on the scene last night.
14:23The car was still there, but nothing else was.
14:26Jumped the curb, hit this tree,
14:30and then stopped, like, before the pole.
14:33Like I said, I don't think we're going to have
14:35a whole lot of luck to see what we can see.
14:42The shooting occurred in Orleans Parish
14:45at the intersection of Poland and North Johnson.
14:48There's not a whole lot of surveillance
14:50in some of the areas,
14:51so that can be very challenging.
14:54Hey, this is Detective Michael Haynes with NLPD.
14:57You guys got a location on Poland?
15:00Oh, their office closed at 5.
15:01Do you know when they open again?
15:02Is it on, like, Monday?
15:05Okay.
15:07My name's Detective Haynes.
15:08I'm investigating the shooting
15:09that took place out here last night.
15:11Did you hear anything or see anything?
15:14Okay.
15:15Hey, how you doing?
15:16Good, how are you?
15:18I'm here investigating the shooting
15:19that took place outside last night.
15:22Oh, that was a shooting?
15:23I thought it was a wreck.
15:24No.
15:24The doorbell was not hooked up.
15:27Unfortunately, on scene,
15:28I'm unable to locate any video footage.
15:31There doesn't appear to be any cameras
15:33or witnesses to help the investigation.
15:37Hello?
15:38Hey, Sarge.
15:38Sorry to bug you again.
15:39How you doing?
15:40No, Sarge.
15:40All right.
15:41I just sent you, basically,
15:43it's what's typed out from the recording.
15:45That's in the email.
15:46Oh, cool.
15:49So you found, like, a call for service, then?
15:51Yeah.
15:52The girl's going to be actually seeing that.
15:54Oh, yeah, that's going to be up there.
15:57St. Bernard Parish knows what has occurred,
16:02what the risks are,
16:03and they're aware that if anything comes out
16:06for her residents to come as quick as possible
16:08to keep the female victim safe.
16:11They were saying that the deputies
16:12that came on scene last night
16:14were able to perhaps enter the vehicle and flock.
16:17It's a black Chevrolet Malibu.
16:19That was, they only had the three numbers
16:21on the license plate.
16:23I think I remember seeing one with a 705.
16:26And then, dude, I got so many cases going on in my head.
16:29But, yeah, I think I saw one with some of them.
16:31Yeah.
16:32I'll keep you posted.
16:33Cool.
16:34Well, thank you.
16:35That was...
16:36He's going to look through their automatic license plate
16:38reader to find out if they can track
16:40the perpetrator's vehicle.
16:43Allegedly, they were able to track it last night
16:45and see it when it left the parish
16:47after it had dropped her off.
16:51Right now, we're headed to Chef Mentor Highway,
16:53which is the super center.
16:55This is the location where they have stopped
16:57and did the child exchange.
17:01If there is video,
17:02we're going to see a domestic fight out there
17:06between the perpetrator.
17:09Luckily, they do have parking lot and cameras.
17:22Hey, how's it going?
17:24My name is Detective Fiends.
17:25I'm looking into a shooting that took place.
17:27A shooting?
17:27It didn't happen here.
17:28But the domestic happened in y'all's parking lot.
17:31So I was trying to see if you guys have footage
17:32around, like, 915 to 940.
17:35It's going to be a black Chevy Malibu
17:38and a golden color Cadillac SUV.
17:42There's at least 16 cameras outside
17:45that could have captured the incident.
17:46And it's going to take some time to recover the footage.
17:48At this time, the case is with a 5th District detective
17:51as an aggravated battery by shooting.
17:53Just in case this becomes my homicide,
17:56I want to be prepared and know
17:57that I have done everything I possibly can
17:59to make sure that we can solve this case.
18:01One of his statements is that Jarrell Andrews
18:05told her that he doesn't care about the baby.
18:08He just wanted her.
18:10Unfortunately, though,
18:11an innocent man may lose his life over it.
18:42That's the female victim.
18:44and you can see Jarrell Andrews.
19:01He's talking about the incident,
19:03and he's telling her to stop.
19:04The ring camera footage supports what the female victim
19:07told us last night.
19:10It's all on camera!
19:12At one point, the person on camera shows Jarrell Andrews
19:17and tells him the whole incident is being recorded.
19:20I think the ring doorbell and the other person being home,
19:23I believe, that kept the female victim alive.
19:27So basically, the probable cause is going to be based off
19:30of her statement and her identification of the shooter.
19:33Most likely, the firearm used to shoot Evans Page
19:36was a Taurus judge, which is a pistol
19:39that shoots small shotgun shells,
19:41more specifically, 410 shotgun shells.
19:44During the processing of Evans Page's vehicle,
19:48wads consistent with a 410 shotgun shell
19:51were located within the vehicle.
19:53My shotgun shell has the actual shell that ejects,
19:56but inside are, like, the BBs, the powder,
19:59and then on the end, there's the wad,
20:01and the wad's pushed out with the BBs,
20:04and that's what's inside the car.
20:06Additionally, this is consistent with the injuries
20:08that Evans Page sustained to his head and his arm.
20:11However, the male victim's gun laying on the grass
20:15was fully loaded.
20:16It had never been fired.
20:19So what did you learn from last night?
20:23Because I remember being on the scene last night.
20:25What did we learn since then?
20:27So her stories line up pretty well.
20:30We're trying to corroborate the story about...
20:32It's just the parking lot's freaking huge.
20:34I saw a couple RTCC's cameras.
20:37That's great.
20:38Yeah, see if I can see them falling on each other
20:40and stuff like that.
20:41Any idea where he is?
20:43No, I have no idea.
20:44Apparently he left...
20:45So St. Bernard used their flock system,
20:48and they know he left the parish last night
20:50after a couple minutes after dropping her off.
20:53So I don't know where he fled to yet.
20:54I'm gonna get RTCC to run his plate to.
20:57It's ever-evolving.
20:59It is.
21:00When I used to work in the 5th District,
21:01I would have people come into the station
21:05and be like,
21:05hey, I'm here for a child custody exchange
21:07with someone coming out.
21:09All the station's parking lots are recorded.
21:12And the sad part is she...
21:14From this new guy that she met,
21:16he has no criminal history whatsoever.
21:18So she finally...
21:19He's like a good dude, right?
21:19He's a good dude.
21:20He's a good dude.
21:21That's unfortunate.
21:22What's his status right now?
21:24I need to call his mom
21:25or stop by the hospital again pretty soon.
21:27I would definitely go check on his status.
21:29Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do.
21:30So...
21:31Okay.
21:31Cool.
21:32All right, man.
21:32Great job.
21:33I appreciate it.
21:33Anytime.
21:43We're headed to the University Medical Center.
21:46We go on to the Trauma Intensive Care Unit.
21:48See his status.
21:50If the victim is still alive,
21:54the suspect is gonna be charged
21:55with attempted second-degree murder.
21:59And if, unfortunately, he has passed,
22:02he'll be charged with second-degree murder.
22:04I'm also gonna speak with my rank
22:06about charging with kidnapping
22:08and child endangerment
22:10for shooting into the car
22:12with his own kid inside.
22:13And I think that definitely deserves those charges,
22:16especially the kid being inside
22:20and then him forcing the female victim
22:22to go with him.
22:24As a homicide detective,
22:26it's kind of a strange place for me
22:28to be in the intensive care unit.
22:31Usually my victims are deceased.
22:42The mom's having a really hard time with this.
22:46Her son is a very good person.
22:49He's very involved in this community.
22:51He's a boxer.
22:53He helps help children in the community.
22:57It's hard being in that room,
22:58dealing with a mom who's grieving,
23:00seeing the actual victim who's dying,
23:02and I have to talk to her,
23:05but she has no thought
23:08that he may not make it.
23:09And that's really tough.
23:13Well, not much has changed.
23:17They're starting to take him off a sedation,
23:19but he's not waking up.
23:21At this point in time,
23:25I'm 100% sure who shot him.
23:29Now, I'm gonna go talk to my sergeant.
23:32Hopefully she's in the office
23:34and then type the arrest warrant.
23:38The case is still with the district
23:39because it's a non-lethal shooting at this point.
23:42This is involving two bureaus.
23:44I need to make sure everybody's on the same page.
23:47Hey.
23:48Hi.
23:49How are you?
23:49I'm good.
23:50You?
23:50Doing okay.
23:51I got the ring cameras
23:54from the house.
23:56They're pretty accurately depicted
23:57on, like, what the female victim said happened.
23:59Like, someone needs to write this alarm.
24:01I don't think Walter would mind
24:02just letting them know officially,
24:04like, yeah, we're gonna take it over.
24:05So there's no, like, miscommunication
24:07and there's no misunderstanding.
24:08Cool.
24:10That's cool.
24:14Hello?
24:15Hey, LT.
24:16Catch you on speakerphone with Mike.
24:17We're talking about this
24:19kind of 2730 right now,
24:21and I just want to make sure
24:22we're all on the same page.
24:23Mike is gonna run with this case.
24:25Did we find the girl today?
24:27Yeah, we did find the girl.
24:29I spoke with her again.
24:31She's potentially in danger.
24:33I agree.
24:33She is in danger.
24:35All right.
24:36All right.
24:36We're getting this arrest warrant tonight?
24:38Yeah, I'm doing it right now.
24:41The sooner we can get them
24:42off the street, the better.
24:44While the victim is still alive,
24:46my next steps are gonna be
24:47to get an arrest warrant
24:48for Jarrell Andrews
24:49for attempted secondary murder,
24:51secondary kidnapping,
24:52domestic abuse, battery,
24:54and child endangerment.
25:13I was able to get some footage.
25:16It shows a male victim arriving
25:18at the park along with Jarrell.
25:23This is the initial video
25:24of them arriving.
25:26So that's gonna be
25:27the suspect's car right there.
25:29And then you're gonna have
25:30a in the parking lot.
25:32She's trying to get Jarrell to stop.
25:34She wants to get their kid
25:36because that's the reason
25:38why Jarrell was so adamant
25:41about them come picking up the kid
25:44was allegedly for the kid.
25:45But from my opinion,
25:47it was a ploy for him
25:48to stop the date
25:51with her new boyfriend.
25:53She's still trying to get Jarrell to stop.
25:56Jarrell's still not stopping.
25:59So you can see in this video
26:00that Jarrell just passes by.
26:02He's flying by in the parking lot,
26:03like, driving.
26:04It appears to be, like,
26:05with no regard to anybody.
26:06So that's the Cadillac that they were in.
26:08You can see the passenger seat
26:10and the male victim
26:11in the driver's seat.
26:12This goes on for, like,
26:14probably eight minutes or so.
26:18Of them trying to meet up.
26:21Unfortunately, they end up meeting
26:22way over here
26:23where there's no, like, camera view.
26:26Finally get their baby
26:27and get in their car
26:28and leave with Jarrell
26:29in pursuit of them
26:31through their surrounding neighborhoods
26:32for, like, 10, 15 minutes
26:35before Jarrell finally forces them
26:37off the roadway.
26:39Getting all these little
26:40itty-bitty things
26:41that don't seem important
26:43by themselves
26:43are actually really important
26:44because this shows
26:46in several other pieces of evidence
26:47that we've gotten
26:48that everything she says is true.
26:50And so that makes her
26:51a more reliable witness.
26:54The surveillance does show them there,
26:56which helps,
26:57but it's not 100%
26:59because it doesn't show
26:59the alleged domestic abuse battery
27:01that occurred in the parking lot.
27:03I'm now looking
27:04for more video in the area.
27:07I need to go
27:08to the Real-Time Crime Center
27:09to help me solve this case.
27:21Well, I did an automatic
27:23license plate reader search
27:25and learned that the vehicle,
27:27Jarrell Andrews' vehicle,
27:28had come into Orleans Parish
27:30after the fact
27:31and hasn't left,
27:32so it's probably parked somewhere.
27:35I'm thinking somewhere
27:36in the Gentilly area.
27:37So I'm kind of following them down
27:39to where we know
27:41that car was
27:42when it entered
27:43St. Bernard Parish
27:44because their ALPR
27:46picked it up at 9.55.
27:48And it's also
27:48when the 911 called him in.
27:50And I'm kind of lucky
27:51on this one
27:52because I got a surviving victim
27:53that can be my cheat sheet
27:55and tell me what to look for
27:56and where to look for it.
27:579.47.
28:04That's going to be his car.
28:06The turn signal on.
28:07I don't know what it is
28:08about people,
28:09but once they shoot somebody,
28:10they always use their turn signals.
28:12I guess you're trying
28:13not to get pulled over,
28:16but...
28:22Approximately 9.49.
28:26So this one,
28:27all you get is the...
28:28He's in the lane
28:29at this time.
28:30I locate one camera
28:32that captured Jarrell Andrews
28:34following Evan's page
28:35and the female victim.
28:36However,
28:37they turn off real quickly.
28:38And I don't see
28:39the victim's vehicle.
28:46The tell lights are...
28:48So this one's broken.
28:49I know that
28:50that's what's specific
28:50about this Malibu.
28:52So this light right here
28:53is going to be broken.
28:55This one's not illuminated.
28:57And there's a scratch
28:58underneath these two lights.
28:59It's underneath
29:00where it says Malibu
29:01over here.
29:02So that's going to be him.
29:04That's going to be him.
29:06I think it's important
29:07to backtrack everything
29:08that the witness says
29:09because she's a sole witness.
29:11So we can show
29:12what she's telling us
29:13the truth
29:13because the actual shooting
29:14is not on camera.
29:15It's not going to be on camera.
29:16So we need to prove
29:18that her statement is truthful
29:19and what she said
29:20was truthful
29:20and kind of like
29:21show what happened.
29:23There's proof
29:24that what she's saying
29:25happened, happened.
29:27Everything's been lining up
29:28with what she said.
29:29Where she said
29:29they were
29:30is lining up.
29:31What happened
29:32after the fact
29:33is lining up.
29:34Following the shooting,
29:35you can see
29:36Jarrell Andrews' vehicle
29:37traveling through
29:39the Lower Ninth Ward
29:40toward St. Bernard Parish.
29:42I'm issuing
29:42a department-wide BOLO
29:44for Jarrell Andrews
29:45and his vehicle,
29:46letting all officials know
29:48that he is possibly
29:49armed and dangerous.
29:51We need to find him
29:52before he can destroy
29:53evidence
29:54or flee the state.
30:11in the Lower Ninth Ward
30:12for Jarrell Andrews.
30:12What are you doing now?
30:15I'm worried.
30:16I'm worried.
30:16What's your name?
30:24I'm not like
30:26Since Evan's page has passed, it upgrades the charges from attempted second-degree murder
30:32to second-degree murder.
30:33And so I'll be obtaining an additional arrest warrant with a new charge of second-degree
30:39murder.
30:41Hey, Rob, you just got picked up.
30:44You just got arrested in Houston, Texas.
30:47Oh, your guy, Jarrell, is that his name?
30:49Yep.
30:49That's going to give him some justice.
30:51Yeah.
30:51And NLP's got to go pick him up and bring him back to New Orleans.
30:55Good job, buddy.
30:55Thanks, man.
30:56I appreciate it.
30:56You apprehend it.
30:57Good.
30:59Working with the U.S. Marshals, we were able to track Jarrell Andrews inside of Harris County,
31:05Texas.
31:06We don't have actual footage of the incident, so it would be nice if we...it's always nice
31:15if you can get a confession, because then sometimes they provide a reason.
31:19And while there's never a good reason to kill somebody, maybe it would bring some type of
31:28understanding or reasoning behind what he did.
31:33Evan's page was trying to do the right thing, giving up his movie night with his new girlfriend
31:39just to go pick up the child, which ended with him losing his life.
31:44The mom was very hopeful that he was going to make it.
31:46Oh, yeah?
31:48Yeah.
31:48She was hanging on, huh?
31:49She was hanging on.
31:50Every time I saw her, you know, she had some form of hope.
31:56Evan's mom told me that he was supposed to have his first professional fight in Las Vegas,
32:02Nevada, one week after the shooting occurred.
32:07We're about to get in there early in the morning.
32:09All right, y'all see what time it is here.
32:11It's a pretty heartbreaking situation to learn that not only a good person, but an athlete
32:16in his prime lost their life.
32:22We don't know what time they're going to be in town because they're still, they might
32:28be on their way back finally by now, but that's six hours away, so that might be eight or
32:32nine o'clock tonight.
32:34Unfortunately, I have family obligations that I need to attend to, so I'm going to ask James
32:38Five to assist me with the interrogation.
32:41What's happening?
32:42One of my suspects got arrested or picked up by Vows in Texas today, and they're on their
32:48way back.
32:49I was really hoping that you do miss all of it and meet them.
32:51You want to interview him?
32:52Yes.
32:53If you could interview him, I'd be forever in your debt.
32:56It's a collaborative unit, and it's not unusual for us to help each other out here and there
33:01as needed.
33:02I'm not super familiar with the case, but I have some time to study up on Jarell Andrews
33:06and the evidence Mikey has against him in this case and sort of brief beforehand.
33:11Jarell Andrews was going to meet up with the female victim for a child custody exchange.
33:16They ended up trying to flee in a vehicle, which Jarell Andrews followed them.
33:20Ended up with Jarell Andrews shooting Evans Page.
33:23Okay.
33:23Yeah, I think I read something about this one.
33:26And you're hoping to get him to talk about the incident, give you context, motive, whatever.
33:32If he wants to share what the murder weapon is, that'd be super cool.
33:35Yeah, I'll consider how you can repay me, and I'll definitely let you know.
33:39That's awesome.
33:40All right.
33:40Well, I hope you get a confession, man.
33:42That's all we can ever hope of, right?
33:43Oh, okay.
33:43Yeah.
33:43Yeah, you got this.
33:44Coming your way.
33:44Full confession.
33:45You got this.
33:45I got you.
33:47The goal in any interview, first and foremost, is just to get the person talking.
33:52The longer you can extend that conversation, the better.
34:08I'm Detective Fife, all right?
34:09Look, I'm just here to help out.
34:11The case detective couldn't come in, so that's why I'm even.
34:15It's a strong case, obviously, an arrest warrant and everything.
34:18We think we know what happened, but before we submit, like, a report, we want to make sure
34:23we get all the signs of the story that we can.
34:25Oh, my God.
34:28I know one thing, and I was defending myself.
34:32Self-defense.
34:33So tell me, what made you have to defend yourself?
34:36He had a gun.
34:37I'm driving my son-in-law to his mama.
34:39I was standing on the parents' side of the door where she was at.
34:43Talked to her while she was in the car.
34:45He got out of the car, came around the car.
34:46And he burst into me and pushed me.
34:48Well, he didn't actually push me, but he, like, shoved me, like.
34:51But he had his hand on his gun.
34:54And my leg was straightened.
34:56Yeah, sure.
34:57He had a gun in his hand.
34:59And you had your own gun, also.
35:02My s*** was in my pocket.
35:03Okay.
35:04It was in my pocket.
35:05But at some point, you must have taken it out, right?
35:07Because he ended up shot.
35:10I'm wondering, like, what happened there, and how did we get to that?
35:13But it was the movement.
35:14The movement, like, you're threatening this gun.
35:16Like, and that's...
35:17I guess that's what happened.
35:19I wasn't trying to do it on purpose, but I'm defending myself.
35:22Sure.
35:23When somebody claims self-defense, as Jerrell starts to do,
35:27you need to get kind of right down to the nitty-gritty.
35:29In what way they felt threatened, was the gun already in their hands,
35:33or did they retrieve it because of some prompt?
35:36People, I think, would like to just say it was self-defense
35:39and leave it at that.
35:40But if you can, walk me through exactly what happened.
35:43Do you remember how many times you had to shoot him?
35:47I think, like, two times.
35:50Yeah.
35:50Do you remember where you shot him?
35:54That was his chest.
35:56Okay.
35:57I did it.
35:58I only did it because I wanted him to drop the gun.
36:00And did he?
36:02Yeah, he dropped the gun.
36:03Okay.
36:03What happened to the gun that you used during this?
36:09I don't know.
36:14Did you know who this guy was that got shot?
36:18No.
36:19You never heard of them or might have heard of them?
36:21No.
36:22After that, what happens next?
36:31She got in your car and you guys left?
36:34Okay.
36:34And you had your kit too, right?
36:36I would drop my kit out to her.
36:37I had to work the next day.
36:40Why did she get in the car with you?
36:48Did you make your ex get in the car with you and leave?
36:54Why would I do that?
36:55Why would she get in the car with you?
36:57That also seems weird.
36:57She wanted to bring her home.
36:59That's what she told me.
36:59She told me she had to get out of here.
37:01She tried to set me up.
37:10When you say she set you up, like, she set you up to look bad or get in a fight?
37:15They set you up to kill you.
37:16That too.
37:17That too.
37:18That too.
37:19You think she wanted to kill you?
37:20Well, I mean, if they wanted to kill you, why didn't he shoot you?
37:26I don't know.
37:27See, that's what I'm saying.
37:28I don't know why she fought him.
37:30It's between me and her.
37:31Not nobody else.
37:32Right, right.
37:33And then he intervened, like, sort of comes between you guys.
37:49For a lot of interviews with suspects, you're trying to get into motive and their past relationship.
37:56It's crazy, son.
37:58You know, to think that Jarell and Evans didn't even really know each other is, I don't know,
38:03it's just kind of a strange scenario.
38:27Hey dude.
38:28Hey man.
38:29So that's all taken care of.
38:30I just wanted to debrief with you if you got a minute.
38:33Yeah, of course.
38:34Yeah.
38:35So we got into it.
38:36He said it was self-defense.
38:38He opened up.
38:41Yeah, yeah.
38:41Yeah.
38:42So he said that she said that the new boyfriend had a gun with an extended magazine and was
38:50like flashing it when they met in the parking lot to do the kid exchange.
38:54He said at some point he went back to his car and retrieved his gun and came back.
39:01And he was kind of like fuzzy at this point, but he, you know, he said I had to shoot
39:05him
39:05because I feared for my life.
39:07He truly wanted us to believe that the incident took place outside the vehicle with Evans Page
39:12being the aggressor.
39:13It's not supported by any evidence.
39:15All the blood spatter and ballistic evidence shows that Evans Page was in the vehicle.
39:21And here's where it gets interesting.
39:23He said his ex-girlfriend then just gets in his car with their kid without him asking her
39:31to or threatening her or anything.
39:33I asked him what happened to the gun that you used.
39:38He couldn't remember.
39:40May not have the murder weapon, but it's a solid case.
39:42We have a strong witness.
39:44We have lots of physical evidence and we have his admission.
39:49Evans Page's mom and family are happy that he's in jail.
39:53So it's a good day.
39:54It's a really good day.
39:57Evans Page's family, they're going to get the opportunity to get justice for Evans Page.
40:17This is him for his golden birthday, 27 at 27.
40:22He was told that he was going to get taken out to dinner.
40:26And they ended up giving him a birthday party and that was actually his last birthday.
40:33Evans did everything right.
40:37I mean, you couldn't ask for a better gentleman, student, employee.
40:44He was just good at whatever he did.
40:46Whatever he set his mind to, he did it.
40:52This is from his first TKO, and it was his very first fight.
40:58He was really giving boxing all that he had.
41:02He passed away in August.
41:05In September, he had a boxing match in Las Vegas.
41:13He called me, he said, Mom, what's your favorite color?
41:16I said, blue.
41:18He said, what color blue?
41:20I said, any color blue.
41:21And so I found out after he was getting, that he was getting his things originally made.
41:29Yeah.
41:30That's my grandmother's name right there.
41:32Lois D.
41:33Lois Jerome.
41:36And on the other side, it says Evans Page.
41:40So that's made specifically for him.
41:44We waited on it for months, and it actually came the second day he was in the hospital.
41:50So I brought it up to the hospital, and I said, I'm not going to touch the plastic on it.
41:55I said, I'm going to wait until you get better, and you're going to take the plastic off of him.
41:58And that's why the plastic is still on it, because he never got the chance to take the plastic off.
42:05He left that afternoon about six.
42:10He told me, he said, I'll be back, Mom.
42:13Told me he loved me.
42:15When we made it to the hospital, he squeezed my hand.
42:20I mean, I was just telling him I love him.
42:24The fact of the matter is, my son is gone.
42:28I'll never see him again.
42:30You know, you can tell yourself every day what the reality is, but just dealing with it and accepting it
42:37is something totally different.
42:39I don't wish this feeling on anybody.
42:44Me and him used to do a lot together.
42:47He was pretty much my everything.
42:52Yeah.
