00:00Science Alert has confirmed your commute to work may be having adverse effects on your health.
00:05The research obtained from the Swedish Longitudinal Survey of Health looked at 13,000 participants aged 16 to 64
00:13within a vast spectrum of lifestyle, occupation, stress and health factors.
00:18When comparing the participants' distance between their workplace and home,
00:23the socio-economic status of these areas and habitual relations to the factors above,
00:28the following was discovered.
00:30Commutes of over 3 kilometers or 1.9 miles increased the likelihood of being physically inactive and overweight
00:37and of having poor sleep.
00:40The study was unable to define the perfect commuting distance or office location,
00:44but it did indicate a smaller commute made it easier to travel by physical activity
00:49or to fit it in before or after working hours.
00:53If your workplace is in a high socio-economic status area or located near a bar,
00:58participants were more likely to have harmful drinking habits.
01:02Things to consider when applying for or accepting a role.
