LeBron is great, but his Lakers may not have enough firepower to get past the Thunder.
Transcript
00:00Back to basketball.
00:01Something I feel far more comfortable discussing.
00:05What's remarkable about last night,
00:08Chet, I think, was pretty damn dominant.
00:12Chet is quick.
00:14Yo, for his size.
00:16Chet can go up, and the ball is coming out,
00:19and he hits the floor, and he's back up before the other guy can get close to it.
00:23You know who had that ability?
00:25And I think it was, I think he was a really cerebral player,
00:29and nobody remembers that because of all the other stuff.
00:33But Rodman.
00:35Rodman studied shooters.
00:37He knew where the ball was going to bounce.
00:39But his ability to jump fast,
00:42he had a very legitimate serious vertical,
00:45but he got up and down and then back up so fast.
00:48Chet has that similar kind of pogo stick ability.
00:52But watching that game last night, especially in the second half,
00:55because I laid the 15 and a half.
00:57It was a big number, right?
00:58So I was kind of paying attention down the stretch.
01:01It was never in doubt.
01:02When it was 10, you knew it was getting to 15.
01:04When it was 15, you knew they could get it to 20.
01:07They kind of called the dogs off late.
01:09When they put the other guys in, though, Jay,
01:11did it make you wonder a little bit?
01:13Got a little tight.
01:14Yeah, because, but I can tell you this.
01:16Did the other kid hit that three at the end?
01:18I can see why a lot of the guys don't play.
01:20Right.
01:21Because they were shooting some bricks, missing the whole rim.
01:26It was funny.
01:27If you had to look, though, the Thunder beat them by 18.
01:31Could have been 25.
01:32It could have been 30 if they wanted to press the gas late.
01:35Like, SGA only had 18.
01:38Yeah.
01:39He wasn't even, like, doing his stuff.
01:41But see, that's what I like about that team,
01:44and that's why I start to feel a little comfortable about what's being built here.
01:50Their guys down the bench can play basketball.
01:53Sure.
01:55I think in the NBA right now, like, we went through that era
01:58where you just had to have three dominant players.
02:02Now you got to have players down the bench
02:04because when you leave your best guys come off to our court,
02:09you still need somebody that can hold it
02:11because we've seen many a games where when the stars sit down,
02:14you can have a 30-point lead, and it just disappears.
02:17You don't want that to happen anymore.
02:20I will say the best version of LeBron I think I ever saw
02:26was when Cleveland came back to beat Golden State.
02:29When he went back to Cleveland, they won that title.
02:31He had that block.
02:32Were they down 2-0 and then rattled four in a row?
02:35I thought they were down 3-0 or 3-1.
02:37Maybe it was 3-1.
02:38Yeah.
02:38Yeah, because that went 7, I think.
02:41That's the best LeBron I think I've ever seen.
02:44I remember the first time I saw LeBron was at the Capital Classic.
02:48Like, he was in high school.
02:50I remember reading about him.
02:51He was on the cover of Sports Illustrated back when that mattered
02:54as a high school kid.
02:55I think as a high school sophomore.
02:57Like, the fact that I know where LeBron went to high school
03:00speaks to his level of importance to hoops, right?
03:02St. Vincent, St. James, and Ackerman.
03:04Well, he went from high school to the pros.
03:06Sure.
03:06But there's very few players I can tell you where they went to high school.
03:09Kobe went to Lower Marion.
03:12Hell, what's the name of MJ's high school in Wilmington?
03:15I'm blanking on that right now.
03:17But didn't Kobe go from high school to the pros too?
03:20And then who was the other dude from the Celtics?
03:24He left.
03:24He went somewhere else before he went to the Celtics, though.
03:27Kevin Garnett?
03:27Yeah.
03:28Yeah, but he grew up in South Carolina, I think,
03:30and then moved to Chicago for a senior high school or something.
03:33Anyway, there's something incredible.
03:38This is not the best version of LeBron we've seen.
03:41He's been better.
03:43Yeah, but he's 41 years old.
03:44No, there's something incredible about watching him do this now at 41.
03:48I mean, listen, bro.
03:50I hear people saying that all the time.
03:53But when you're gifted certain athletic abilities and you have a dedication to do it,
04:00I'm not amazed by anything anymore.
04:02Because, see, society or sports society tell you you're done at 30.
04:0830 is one thing.
04:09We're talking about 41.
04:10No, no, no.
04:11Listen to what I'm saying, Jay.
04:12Sports society tell you you're done at 30.
04:14But there's been guys in all sports that have played beyond 30.
04:18There's guys in, like, hell, Tom Brady was doing it in the NFL beyond 40.
04:23We saw LeBron now is doing it.
04:25But when you are a guy who's dedicated to it, you can do stuff later on in life.
04:30If he was BSing around all this time, he'll never get to 41.
04:34So you give him credit for being a guy who is dedicated to keeping himself in top shape.
04:39I'm just trying to take the time.
04:41The way LeBron's playing, it seems like he could play another five years.
04:45Who knows, right?
04:46I'm just trying to take the time to enjoy this period of them and him.
04:52And he played 36 minutes last night.
04:55The only dude that played more is Rui.
04:57And, like, this is the difference between me and I'll see everybody in this room.
05:02We see a guy age.
05:03Listen, as long as you're on the court and on the ice, you're treated as a dude who could play.
05:08I agree with all that.
05:10That's what I'm saying.
05:10You brought up Brady.
05:11And what Brady did was so incredible.
05:13But the examples of, like, what Brady did in his 40s and what LeBron is doing are incredibly rare.
05:20Like, I'm not talking about a 30-year-old and the clock should be turned off.
05:24This is incredibly rare.
05:26I understand the rarity of it.
05:28But still, you are still playing and you still play at that level.
05:33You go out and you produce.
05:35I don't care if you're 41.
05:36I don't care if you're 30.
05:37I don't care if you're 25.
05:38But there's very few people that could do it.
05:40Very few could do it.
05:41But still, you judge those guys based off of the capabilities and what they've been granted and given.
05:46Not based off of what somebody else was granted and given.
05:48I agree with all that.
05:49I just think it's remarkable what he's doing.
05:51He's a special player.
05:52But I'm not going to go crazy if they're losing.
05:56I mean, I agree with that.
05:58They're going to get smoked.
05:58Still, if you are that great.
06:00That's what I'm saying.
06:0141.
06:02He's still that great.
06:03Win the damn game.
06:04And then you'll hear me do what you're doing.
06:08But when you lose the game, who cares?
06:10I wonder what this series would be if Luka was around.
06:13I still think the Thunder would win.
06:16I feel like they could fill it up more.
06:18He'll score 20, but he might have a plus 25.
06:21A minus 25.
06:22Minus 25, yeah.
06:23I think if Luka was in here, this is probably a six-game series.
06:27But he'll be back in this series.
06:29You think?
06:29Yeah.
06:30Just for the LA-ness of it all?
06:32No, I think they're going to bring him back.
06:33Because the way that they were talking yesterday, it seems like he's out for another game, I'm thinking.
06:38And then he'll be back.
06:40I also watched the puck last night.
06:42I watched the last period of wild avalanche.
06:48I don't know if anybody's going to touch the avalanche.
06:51They are just a freaking wagon.
06:55Like, they've scored 14 goals in the first two games of this series.
06:59Hey.
07:00McKinnon.
07:01Hey, Roger.
07:02Come here, brother.
07:03So my guy, Roger, chief engineer, making everything work.
07:07We're going to share a mic.
07:08Is that all right?
07:09I'll be honest.
07:10I've never been this close to you, Roger.
07:15How's everything going here?
07:16It's going funny here at the moment.
07:19Are we under attack?
07:21Is there like a cyber attack?
07:23Maybe so.
07:24I was joking.
07:26No, it's got to be something that built normal failure, you know, but I don't know.
07:30We have to kind of narrow it down.
07:30But Roger, you're going to find it.
07:31Yeah, we're looking for it.
07:32There you go, baby.
07:33We're on a hunt.
07:34Roger and Daniel, if those two can't find it, it can't be found.
07:36If he's working and put the headphones in there, they can go in there and use the room.
07:40Dude, we're all in here.
07:41One big happy family.
07:42No big deal.
07:43Yeah.
07:43All right.
07:44It's cozy.
07:45Shout out to Roger.
07:46Best guys on it, Jeff.
07:48Hey, man.
07:48The protestant came down off the bridge.
07:51That dude from last week?
07:52He finally came down.
07:54I guess.
07:55Hold on.
07:55He's been up there the whole time?
07:56Yes.
07:56It's gotten wet.
07:57So I guess he worried about slipping and he came back down.
08:01Hold on.
08:01That dude slapped him down.
08:02The police went and got him down.
08:03I got an update just now.
08:04Yeah.
08:05Well, you know what?
08:06Why didn't he go get him before?
08:07We need some information on that.
08:09This is my problem with these people who interrupts everybody else's lives.
08:15Interrupt theirs.
08:16Go up there and get them.
08:17And people go, I think you're concerned he's going to jump.
08:21Okay.
08:23I mean, he isn't jumping in water.
08:25Let's get to a point, dog.
08:27People do stuff like that.
08:28How the hell did he stay up there?
08:29We need to investigate this.
08:31Roger, drop the engineering.
08:33Go investigate the bridge.
08:34How did he sleep up there at night?
08:36That's only a couple blocks away.
08:37Stallion, get on your horse.
08:39Go down there.
08:40That's more than a couple blocks.
08:41Let's figure out what's going on here.
08:43Stallion jogged there.
08:44Come back.
08:45He'll be dead.
08:46All right.
08:46It's B. Mitchell Finley.
08:47We're all in the producer's studio.
08:51Roger and Daniel are working hard to try to get us out of here.
08:53It's kind of fun.
08:54It's certainly weird.
08:55Nobody go anywhere.
08:57It's going to be a hell of a day.
