The US Justice Department has added a charge of assault on a federal officer with a deadly weapon to the case against the man accused of trying to assassinate President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents' Dinner at Washington Hilton last month.

00:09at the White House Correspondents' dinner last month.
00:12The charge, which alleged that 31-year-old Cole Allen used a weapon to assault, intimidate and interfere with the
00:19Secret Service agent, is part of a new four-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Washington.
00:26The other three counts are charges Allen previously faced, including attempted assassination, discharge of a firearm during a crime of
00:35violence, and illegal transportation of a firearm and ammunition across state lines.
00:40The incident happened at Washington Hilton on April 25th, when Allen allegedly sprinted past security checkpoints in an attempt to
00:48kill Trump and other U.S. officials who were attending the dinner.
00:52Allen fell to the ground and was subdued by law enforcement before he reached the ballroom.
00:57The indictment followed confusion over whether the accused shot a Secret Service agent during their gunfire.
