00:00Police on Monday released body cam footage of the arrest of the suspect in an assassination

00:06attempt against former U.S. President Donald Trump.

00:10A law enforcement officer was heard telling the suspect, Ryan Routh, to take two steps

00:15to the right and to keep walking after he got off his vehicle on the Interstate 95 highway

00:20in Martin County, Florida on Sunday.

00:27Police said Secret Service agents spotted Routh and fired at him in bushes near the

00:31property line of Trump's golf course.

00:33The suspect then fled in the vehicle, leaving behind an AK-47-style assault rifle and other

00:40items at the scene.

00:41He was arrested at a traffic stop the highway, about 50 miles north of the golf club.

00:47Trump's presidential election running mate, J.D. Vance, said Trump called him after the

00:51incident, saying that he was a little mad because the Secret Service agents had stopped

00:56him from finishing his golf game.

00:58I get a phone call and it says Donald J. Trump, so I answer it and he says, J.D., you're not

01:04going to believe this, but they tried to do it again.

01:07I said, no, they didn't.

01:09You're joshing me.

01:10What's going on here, sir?

01:11And he says, no, I was playing golf and the Secret Service found somebody who was trying

01:17to shoot me.

01:18And I say, oh, my Lord, sir, I'm so glad you're OK.

01:21I mean, are you doing OK or not just physically OK, but everything's fine?

01:24He said, yeah, I'm doing fine.

01:26And this is just who Donald Trump is.

01:27He said, you know, I'm a little mad because I was about to make a birdie putt on the sixth

01:31hole and they wouldn't let me finish.

01:34And I think there are so many ways, big and small, that we have an opportunity as people

01:39of faith to get out there and to remind people that while it sometimes seems distant and

01:44while faith is not top of mind for so many people, the touch of God is everywhere in

01:49our country.

01:50We just have to look for it.

01:51We have to pray for it and we have to make sure our fellow Americans see it.

01:55In Washington, D.C., President Joe Biden said the Secret Service needs more help after

02:00the assassination attempts targeting Trump.

02:02Thank God the president's OK.

02:03I think we got a full report so far.

02:04We're down there tonight.

02:05But one thing I want to make clear, the service needs more help.

02:06And I think the Congress should respond to their needs if they in fact need more services.

02:20The 58-year-old suspect was charged with two gun-related crimes in federal court.

02:26More charges appear likely, but the initial charges of possession of firearm as a convicted

02:30felon will allow authorities to keep him in custody as the investigation continues.
