00:02Good evening and welcome to Politics Nation. We're following breaking news out of Minneapolis.
00:09We're awaiting a media briefing from the mayor of Minneapolis and other Minnesota lawmakers.
00:16Following this morning's fatal shooting of a 37-year-old residence, local officials familiar
00:23with the investigation. Tell MS now that the man shot by federal agents has been identified as ICU
00:31nurse Alex Preti. The incident was caught on camera. We warn you, the video is graphic.

01:33with you? Honestly.
01:46What the ****? What the ****? MS now has not yet confirmed exactly what happened in the video
01:57or what happened in the moments leading up to the shooting. But Homeland Security officials say the
02:03victim approached Border Patrol officers with a semi-automatic handgun, which officers attempted
02:10to disarm but were violently resisted. Minneapolis police chief says the victim is believed to have
02:17been a lawful gun owner with a permit to carry. Meanwhile, protesters and law enforcement continue
02:25to clash tonight as temperatures drop in the Twin Cities. The Minnesota National Guard has been mobilized
02:34from ready from ready posture to active support with Governor Tim Walz calling on the president to remove
02:42ICE from his state. And the president continues to blame the governor and the mayor of Minneapolis
02:49for the unrest. We will bring you the briefing when it happens. In the meantime, we're joined by MS now
02:56reporter Alex Tibet. Alex, what's the latest? Well, we're here at the scene where this tragedy transpired
03:06earlier this morning. This is where Alex Peretti lost his life, the second ICE observer to lose their life
03:15this month after Renee Nicole Good was also shot and killed by a federal agent just a few weeks ago.
03:23As you can
03:24see, there's a couple dozen people praying, lighting candles. You can see a cross with the name Alex
03:33Peretti written on it. It's a very solemn moment here, a somber moment, as this community continues to
03:43process tragedy after tragedy. Earlier today, we saw protests at the scene that got a bit violent,
03:54we saw tear gas, pepper spray, pepper balls. Right now, we see a couple hundred people gathered down
04:01the street expressing their anger. And as you noted, the Minnesota National Guard has been deployed to
04:10the Whipple building, which is the federal building where ICE has been using as a headquarters during the
04:16last month and a half or so as protesters continue to converge there. Now, I want to introduce you to
04:23Steve, who's been here all morning. And Steve, you were here when these protests hit a boiling point,
04:30and you found a lot of things on the ground. I want you to show me what you found and
04:34explain
04:35to me what they are. Yes. So the first thing I got is poctic tactical gas. Basically, it used to
04:42be
04:42used by, I'm going to emphasize this, trained law enforcement. Let me repeat that. Trained law enforcement
04:49should be using this gas. Let's remind that, folks. Because used for operations after five years from
04:56date. So... And what else do you have, Steve? We have, besides the gas, we got a skeet shell tactical
05:05bullet thing. As you can see, there's a bullet on it. So, although they're not firing regular bullets,
05:11they are firing variants of bullets, and this would scatter out and do shots. And you have one more, one
05:16more, uh,
05:18non-lethal round that you were, you were talking to me about. Is that correct, Steve? Yes. This is an
05:23impact round.
05:24They come out of little torrents, and they hit you where it hurts the most. Although not lethal,
05:31it will bandage bones, leave bruises, and definitely leave a punch. And it's also bullet
05:38caliber in it. And that round blinded somebody about a week ago here, and yet these federal agents are
05:46continuing to use it. What does that say about how the Trump administration is reacting to what's
05:53happening on the ground here? The Trump administration is doubling down on keeping
05:57fear into these streets, and the community, as you can see right before you, is saying we are not
06:01going to take this anymore. ICE should have, should leave this city, if they, if I were them. You have
06:10lives, you have children to go back to. Do not be murderers anymore. Please go home and leave.
06:18Steve, thank you so much for your time. And you heard the frustration. You heard the exasperation.
06:25That is something that I've been hearing echoed all day, Rev, as just every day here in Minneapolis,
06:33whether it's the detaining of a five-year-old boy, or whether it's another ICE observer losing their
06:40life to a federal agent, every day here brings a new tragedy. Rev?
06:47Oh, thank you, MSNOW reporter Alex Tibet in Minneapolis. And we will certainly keep monitoring
06:54with you. Joining me now is Minnesota State Senate President Bobby, a champion, and Minnesota State
07:01Representative Kayla Berg, both Democrats. State Representative Berg, State Senator Champion,
07:09and thank you both for joining us tonight. We begin with today's fatal shooting and the breaking news
07:15that the Minnesota National Guard has been mobilized to an active support role in, uh, to support state
07:23and local law enforcement at the request of Governor Tim Walz. Here's what Walz had to say earlier today.
07:48This federal occupation of Minnesota long ago stopped being a matter of immigration enforcement.
07:54It's a campaign of organized brutality against the people of our state. And today that campaign
07:59claimed another life. Donald Trump, I call on you once again, remove this force from Minnesota.
08:06They are sowing chaos and violence. We've seen deadly violence from federal agents again and again and
08:12again. Earlier today, the president, Donald Trump, on Truth Social claimed, quote,
08:22the mayor and governor are inciting insurrection with their pompous, dangerous, and arrogant rhetoric,
08:30end of quote. He added that without this purge in your state, quote, you would see something far worse
08:38than you are witnessing today, end of quote. What's your reaction tonight to that, State Representative Berg?
08:47Well, thank you so much for having me, Reverend. Um, it's simply not true. What you see on the ground
08:54here in Minnesota is community members wrapping their arms around each other. We're escorting union
09:01workers to their cars after their after their shifts. We are bringing groceries to people that are too
09:08afraid to leave their home. Tens of thousands of peaceful protesters took to the streets of Minneapolis
09:14in a beautiful act of solidarity and justice. And the very next morning, we wake up to this horrific
09:21tragedy. A union member in ICU nurse at the VA taking care of our veterans. This is astonishing. And
09:30what the federal administration is saying is happening here is wrong. Representative, uh,
09:38champion, same question to you. Well, let me just say, first of all, thank you for having us so that
09:45you could cast this light on what is happening here in Minnesota. I know that you've been here before
09:50and you, you know that Minnesota is a loving state. And, and what you're seeing is Minnesota's reaction
09:57and concern around the aggressive acts of ICE. We've had U.S. citizens arrested by ICE. We've had
10:03peaceful protesters, um, uh, and, uh, where ICE members have been in close proximity to them and spraying,
10:11uh, irritants in their eyes at close range. You've had children, um, uh, detained by ICE. And let's be
10:19clear that there are over 3000 ICE members, uh, ICE agents here in Minnesota. And, and if you compare
10:26that to the fact that in Minneapolis and St. Paul combined, there's no more than 1400 police officers.
10:33So there's at least double, if not triple the number of ICE agents here in a medium sized city.
10:38And they've been aggressive and they've been, um, terrorizing our wonderful state.
10:45So as, as you say this, uh, representative Berg yesterday, hundreds of, uh, Minneapolis businesses
10:53shut down as part of a general strike in opposition to ICE. Nearly 16,000 people protested in the streets,
11:02according to labor leaders and dozens of clergy members were arrested at a peaceful sit-in at
11:08Minneapolis, St. Paul airport. Now polls show the president, president's immigration, uh, uh,
11:16purges losing support nationally. Do you think that popular opposition can force the administration
11:23to relent? You know, I'm not sure what would force this administration to relent. All we can do is
11:32ensure that we continue to observe and document what is happening in our communities. We will not let
11:39them do this to our neighbors without bearing witness. We need to continue to peacefully protest.
11:45We can't give them the riots and the violence that they want. Their cruelty is the point. So we have
11:53to ensure we are peacefully protesting, documenting what is happening to our neighbors. And I do hope
11:59that the popular opinion will finally make them take some sort of action. But ICE needs to get out of
12:06Minnesota now. President Trump and Kristi Noem can make that happen. It needs to happen now.
12:12Now, while all this is happening, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche says that presently,
12:19there is no federal investigation into Renee Good's killing earlier this month. Instead,
12:24he directed FBI agents to shut down a civil rights probe of the shooting and to investigate Good
12:32for suspected assault on the officer that shot her. According to three people briefed on these
12:39discussions, a federal judge denied that search warrant. And two of those sources say that an FBI
12:45supervisor overseeing corruption cases for the Minneapolis field office resigned in frustration
12:53over how the DOJ is handling goods killing and the unrest in Minneapolis. Senator Champion,
12:59is this approach sustainable, especially now that we had yet another fatal shooting?
13:07Well, let's be clear that I'm a lawyer, first of all, outside of being Senate President. And I
13:12understand the importance of transparency. I understand the importance of following the evidence.
13:18I understand that because that is what creates trust when we think in terms of people trusting their
13:24government. You've seen the DOJ or DHS, I would say in particular, make decisions not to investigate
13:30what happened. And in fact, choose to do something opposite, which is to investigate not only good,
13:37but also the spouse of good. And there's been a reaction to that because we believe in our government.
13:42We believe in people acting and behaving in a way that makes us proud. And you have articulated with
13:50real clarity as to some of the decisions that have been made.
13:52Just a minute, Senator. Senator, let me interrupt you. I want to go to the mayor.
13:57Mayor Frey is about to make a statement. We're going live.
14:00The city of Minneapolis is filing a declaration after today's shooting to encourage the judge to
14:06rule on a temporary restraining order on Monday that would grant us immediate relief
14:13and help would help stop this operation that has been so harmful to the city of Minneapolis.
14:18The state of Minnesota has resulted in multiple shootings and tragic deaths.
14:23I have formally requested assistance from the National Guard to support the limited number
14:29of officers that we have in the Minneapolis Police Department. We have around 600 officers in total.
14:35Days off have been canceled. Our incredible Minneapolis police officers have been working tirelessly to
14:41do their day-to-day work. And simultaneously, they are put in the middle of these chaotic situations.
14:47We will not be able to do this on our own. And so we are getting assistance from both mutual
14:53aid
14:53jurisdictions as well as the request to the governor for the National Guard. And we're appreciative of
14:59the assistance. Our community is tired. Our officers are tired. Our businesses are tired.
15:07And this additional support is necessary. And again, the chaos that we are seeing is caused directly by ICE,
15:16border control, and this federal administration. Our top priority is keeping our neighbors and
15:22businesses safe. And the additional support will help us do that. Our community service officers are
15:28helping to deliver food to families that are in need. Community members are out there peacefully protesting,
15:35making sure that their voices are heard. They're escorting workers to their jobs. They're taking care of daycares.
15:43It has been extraordinary how people around our city have stepped up during this difficult time.
15:48And there is an incredible group of leaders and senators and members of Congress that are here
15:53with me to deliver a powerful message in just a couple of minutes. We're also working closely with our
16:00immigration task force to make sure that clear and transparent information is coordinated. We'll
16:07continue to do everything in our power to keep our neighbors safe and to stand up for our immigrant
16:12communities. Most of the protests that we've seen have remained peaceful. Let's keep it that way.
16:18Let's not counter Donald Trump's chaos with our own version of chaos here. I understand that people are
16:24angry. I understand that people are experiencing trauma. It makes sense. Our communities have been
16:33placed on the very front line, and this has been ongoing now for weeks. It must end. Remember,
16:41it's only our city that will suffer if there is damage or destruction that is done. Finally, to the
16:48victims' family and friends, our hearts are with you. Our love goes out to you. I know that there is
16:55nothing that I can say right now that will ease the pain. But I hope you know that Minneapolis cares
17:02deeply for you. There are 435,000 residents that will do everything possible to stand with you. With that,
17:11I'll turn it over to Chief O'Hara, who can give more of an update on the plans for tonight.
17:20Thank you, Mayor. Good evening. I'm going to provide a brief update on the events today
17:28and our plans to maintain order in the city. I recognize that this is a volatile and emotional
17:34situation, and our focus remains, as it always has been, on de-escalation, slowing things down,
17:43and maintaining peace and order in this city. The situation is stable right now, and it is peaceful,
17:51and we intend to keep it that way. After our last press update, additional residents and demonstrators
17:59gathered today, and the situation deteriorated. Local and state law enforcement officers were
18:06surrounded on multiple sides by a mix of protesters and also agitators who engaged in unlawful acts.
18:14Individuals began erecting barricades, throwing glass bottles, ice chunks, and at least two separate
18:21fires were started in the immediate vicinity. Minneapolis police had to escort firefighters so that they
18:28could safely extinguish those fires. The number one priority of our police officers is to protect life
18:36and maintain public safety for all people in our community. And so, given the volatility and rising
18:43public safety risks for residents, for demonstrators, and police officers, state and local law enforcement
18:51did deploy less lethal and gas munitions at that assembly in order to allow for a safe,
18:57egress of law enforcement, and to prevent further violence and damage. We do everything that we
19:04possibly can to deescalate whenever possible. And the actions that were taken today were in response
19:10to a dangerous and escalating situation that already had multiple confrontations. The gathering at the
19:17scene now is peaceful, and we need everyone to respect the lives and property of all people in our community.
19:26In order to maintain that peace, we have established a vehicle exclusionary zone in the affected area.
19:33That zone has allowed traffic to be safely managed and has significantly reduced the risk of escalation,
19:41ensuring access for emergency vehicles, for residents of the area, and for lawful, peaceful demonstrations.
19:49This zone will be maintained by uniformed police officers of the Minneapolis Police Department working
19:54alongside members of the Minnesota National Guard. National Guard members will be wearing fluorescent
20:00yellow safety traffic vests and will be working alongside uniformed Minneapolis police. In addition to
20:08the Minnesota State Patrol and Hennepin County Sheriff's Office that assisted the scene,
20:12the St. Paul Police, Ramsey County Sheriff's Office, and numerous Hennepin County Suburban Police Departments
20:19are assisting with answering 911 calls in the City of Minneapolis today.
20:25The loss of human life yet again is a tragedy. We pray all people can recognize that. And we extend
20:33our
20:33condolences, as the Mayor has said, to the loved ones of the deceased. To the people of our city,
20:39we understand that the pressure has been building for weeks. We understand the hurt and frustration
20:46that this causes. But again, if you choose to come out, if you choose to demonstrate,
20:53peacefully assemble. Do so lawfully. And understand that the men and women in this uniform standing here
20:59tonight are committed first and foremost to protecting the lives of every single person in this city.
21:05We will continue to monitor the update, monitor the situation, and provide updates as needed.
21:12Senator. Thank you. Thank you, Mayor. Thank you, Chief, for your strong leadership during this crisis.
21:21I'm joined today by Senator Smith, as well as Representatives McCollum and Morrison,
21:27and joining us in a statement are Representatives Craig and Omar. Our message is really clear.
21:35And straightforward. We need ICE out of Minnesota. They are not making us more safe. As the tragic,
21:46tragic killing this morning, as people saw it viscerally on that video, shows us they are making us
21:53less safe. With 3,000 agents, which of course includes border control, outnumbering the sworn police
22:03officers in Minneapolis and St. Paul by 3 to 1 and even larger than the 10 metropolitan police departments.
22:11This is completely out of whack, completely out of balance. And now three people have been shot, two
22:20resulting in death. One, Renee Good, mother of three, and now Alex Preddy, a 37-year-old Minneapolis man,
22:32a citizen, also a nurse. They both have families that love them very much.
22:40This city has been under siege. And I want to make something clear. As the mayor and the police chief
22:46are doing their job for this city, it's not just the cities. It's not just Minneapolis and St. Paul,
22:53as you'll hear from the members of Congress. It is the suburbs where kids have been lured in
22:59and abducted. It is small towns all across our state, rural areas. This has gone way beyond some
23:09stated purpose of the fraud investigation or apprehending violent offenders. That's not
23:16what this is about anymore, when you have 3,000 agents, overwhelming sworn police officers. I took
23:23part in that peaceful and powerful march yesterday, all those peaceful people. And then we wake up this
23:31morning to this poorer. As members of Congress, we are calling on this administration to get ice out
23:41of our towns, off of our streets. It will make us more safe. We, as a congressional group up here,
23:52strongly opposed the ice funding this week. We opposed it this summer when our Republican colleagues
24:01tripled the budget, $75 billion. It is now more than the FBI. They reduced the training from five months
24:11to 47 days. And these are the results. We are also calling for a full and transparent investigation.
24:22We have done this before in Minnesota, coordinating with local and state and federal law enforcement.
24:29And if they're not going to do it, then they need to get out of the way and allow our
24:33very professional
24:34Bureau of Criminal apprehension to conduct the investigation into these killings.
24:41And finally, we call on our Republican colleagues to stand with us.
24:47I know they know what's going on here because it's happening in their own districts.
24:52We have, of course, these shootings, but it is a lot more than that. They know that something's wrong
24:58when a Hmong elder is pulled out of a house in his underwear and slippers. And they figure out,
25:08about an hour later, they got the wrong guy. And in fact, the guy they were looking for
25:12is actually in jail. Or a two-year-old, a case my office worked on, in addition to hundreds more,
25:18who's taken with their dad and then put on a plane to Texas when her mom is desperately trying to
25:25get
25:26her. We got her back. But none of this should be happening. None of it. So we call on our
25:33Republican
25:34colleagues to join us because we have warned this administration. I have personally warned them
25:40that there would be more deaths, that more of this would happen. And clearly they're not listening.
25:45So we ask people around the country to talk to their Republican representatives to make clear
25:51that this is not the America that is ours. This has got to stop. And with that,
25:59I turn it over to my colleague, Senator Smith.
26:06Good afternoon, everyone. So today, federal agents beat and then shot multiple times and killed
26:1437-year-old Alex Jeffrey Preddy, a U.S. citizen, a Minneapolis resident and a VA nurse.
26:21Eyewitness video shows, once again, reckless, violent and dangerous federal agents taking the life
26:28of a Minnesotan. And rather than following standard law enforcement practice, which is focused
26:34on public safety and de-escalation, they have killed another person. And the Trump administration has
26:41already called Alex Preddy a domestic terrorist. He was a nurse.
26:49We send our heartfelt condolences to his family and to his friends. And all Americans should be outraged
26:57at this unaccountable violent federal force, which is operating with impunity in our city.
27:02And you need to know, America, that if it can happen here, it can happen in your community too.
27:08So we gather here to say, first, I want to say to the president, you must stop Operation Metro
27:17Surge immediately and send these ICE agents home so our communities can be safe.
27:23Second, it is essential that trusted, impartial state investigators at the BCA are allowed to fully
27:31investigate what happened here today. Third, I urge my neighbors to express our grief and outrage at
27:40this killing and at the federal invasion of our cities peacefully and with the love that we showed
27:46yesterday when so many thousands of us showed up in support of our community. And finally, we must have
27:55our Republicans, Republicans in Congress, they must join with us to condemn this violent and unfettered
28:03violent abuse of power and to stop it. And they can do that by by refusing to fund this agency
28:11so long
28:12as it continues to kill and terrorize Americans. That is what Senator Klobuchar and I will be working
28:18on in the United States Senate. And I just want to close by thanking so much the local law enforcement
28:28and
28:28fire departments, not only here in Minneapolis, but all across the state that have been doing everything
28:33that they could, everything that you can to keep our cities safe. I once worked in City Hall and I
28:39know what
28:39it's like and I am so grateful for their relentless work to keep our communities safe. Representative McAlton.
28:52Well, we have a saying in Congress that we agree and reflect in our in our remarks those that have
29:00spoken before us. So I'm going to take a slightly different tact. You know, today, this morning,
29:07Saturday, we lost another life. And it didn't have to be that way. To all the protesters who have been
29:15out there peacefully protesting, who have been harmed and injured. It shouldn't be happening to you
29:22either. But I want to take a second, as Senator Smith was just to reflect on the community. St. Paul
29:30stands with you, Minneapolis, the East and West Metro. We're united, as well as all Minnesotans. My
29:37phones have been ringing off the hook from frustrated members of communities that are asking me to talk to
29:45their Republican members of Congress to do something about the escalation of chaos and violence that has
29:53been caused by the presence of the Department of Homeland Security. Representative Morrison and I,
30:02along with Representative Omar and Craig, had an opportunity to show with our votes on the House
30:09floor just this week how disappointed we are that the president refuses to listen. Oh, well, we're more
30:16than disappointed. We are outraged. Part of the bill that was on the floor was to provide more body
30:24cameras for ICE. Well, they have them already in the thousands, and they refuse to wear them. So, Secretary
30:32Noem, have your officers suit up and put on their body cameras just like our law enforcement does. To our
30:39law enforcement here, we appreciate you, especially those of you who have been working the extra shifts.
30:44To the school boards, to the community service volunteers, everybody out there in this community,
30:51you make us so proud to represent you in the United States Congress. We hold our head up high
30:56with how Minnesota is reacting to this. We celebrate 250 years of this United States of America.
31:06And I'll close with quoting Benjamin Franklin. He came out of the Constitutional Convention,
31:11and he said, it's a republic if you can keep it. Well, we're showing we want to keep it a
31:19republic
31:19with peaceful protesting. Stay calm, be safe, take care of one another. And when you see a National
31:28Guards person out there trying to relieve one of our police officers, know that they're there to protect
31:34you. So please, respect everyone out there trying to keep us safe. And with that, I'd like to welcome
31:43up my colleague from the West Metro. Representative Morrison. Thank you, Representative McCollum.
31:50You know, the day after tens of thousands of Minnesotans showed the world how to stand up
31:56peacefully against this administration's cruelty, lawlessness and unacceptable occupation and demand
32:04that ICE leave our state and end this federal invasion. The world is watching yet again as one
32:12of Donald Trump's federal agents have shot and killed another United States citizen in broad daylight in
32:18the middle of the street. First, we lost Renee Nicole Good and now Alex Jeffrey Preddy, a 37 year old
32:29man,
32:30a Minnesotan, an ICU nurse, a resident looking out for his neighbors as Minnesotans always do. And I do want
32:39to pause and offer my deepest sympathy and profound condolences to Mr. Preddy's family and friends. I am so
32:47sorry for your unimaginable loss. And we are once again now being asked to deny what we saw with our
32:56own eyes. We watched the videos of the masked federal agent shooting Alex in the back multiple
33:04times while he was pinned down by more than six other masked federal agents. And once again, DHS has
33:11come out with a predetermined narrative that contradicts everything we saw with our own eyes.
33:16Two 37 year old Minnesotans are now dead, a poet and a nurse. For what?
33:25We cannot lose any more lives. We need a full transparent and comprehensive investigation
33:32led by our BCA. And ICE and Border Patrol need to halt all operations in the state and leave immediately.
33:40And Congress cannot be complicit in facilitating these lethal operations and federal occupation
33:48of our cities. We are standing here. We've been listening to a briefing from local Minnesota
33:54lawmakers and law enforcement about their efforts to keep the peace in Minneapolis after a fatal shooting
34:01of a resident by federal forces conducting immigration enforcement operations. While this was happening,
34:09Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem held her own briefing on the incident in Washington.
34:15Let's take a listen to some of that.
34:18It occurred with DHS law enforcement as they carried out their lawful duties to keep Americans safe in
34:26the threat of criminal illegal aliens in this country. At 9.05 a.m. Central Time, the Department of
34:32Homeland Security law enforcement officials and officers were conducting targeted operations in Minneapolis
34:38against an illegal alien whose criminal history included domestic assault with intentionally inflicting
34:45bodily harm, disorderly conduct, and driving without a valid license. An individual approached U.S.
34:52Border Patrol officers with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun. The officers attempted to disarm this
34:59individual, but the armed suspect reacted violently. Fearing for his life and for the lives of his
35:05fellow officers around him, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics were on the scene immediately and
35:12attempted to deliver medical aid to the subject, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect
35:17also had two magazines with ammunition in them that held dozens of rounds. He also had no ID. This
35:24looks like a situation where an individual arrived at the scene to inflict maximum damage on individuals and
35:30to kill law enforcement. About hundreds of protesters then showed up at the scene. They began to obstruct
35:38and to assault law enforcement officers. We saw objects being thrown at them, including ice and other
35:44objects, and a rampant assault began and even an HSI officer agent's finger was bitten off. Crowd control
35:53measures were deployed to bring safety to the public and to law enforcement at the scene. And once again,
35:59I want to remind everybody that this situation and this tragedy did not have to happen. Our law enforcement
36:05are doing everything that they can to protect the public. We're praying for this deceased loved one's family
36:11and friends, but we also recognize that the Minnesota governor and the Minneapolis mayor need to take a long hard
36:17look in the mirror. They need to evaluate their rhetoric, their conversations, and their encouragement of such
36:24violence against our citizens and our law enforcement officers. I'll remind you that Governor Walz today
36:29in his press conference said that our officers were not even law enforcement, which is a lie. He's called
36:35them the Gestapo. He's encouraged residents and citizens and violent rioters to resist. He's doxed their
36:43identities, putting themselves and their families lives in jeopardy. He's refused to turn over murders to
36:49federal law enforcement officers. He's protected illegal criminals and protected them from being brought
36:54to justice and even overseeing. Let's go back to the presser in Minnesota that is still ongoing.
37:02And to remember these little kids who are afraid to go to school and to remember the people who are
37:09legal
37:10citizens who are wrestled to the ground yelling, I am born here. I was born here.
37:17And to remember these two that we've lost. And I hope that's something that they all take home and
37:23that the people of this country do as they look at how they can get this administration to stop this.
37:29Mayor Frey, can you talk about the legal case that you were pursuing and how this shooting changes your
37:35strategy? What is your best case scenario on Monday when you vote for it?
37:40Yeah. So there's two forms of request that we have been asking for.
37:47The first was this temporary restraining order. The other possibility is some form of injunctive
37:53relief. Now, I don't want to get too into the details because I'm bound to get something wrong.
37:59But the question is one of urgency and immediacy. The issue is that we recently saw somebody shot and
38:08badly injured. We then saw somebody shot and killed. And that was the second one.
38:14Chief, I think we've only had three homicides in the city this year. Is that right?
38:20Two of them, ICE. Three homicides. Two of them were from ICE.
38:27And so the relief that we're asking for is stopping this Operation Metro surge in the immediacy.
38:35It's preventing this massive influx of agents that is making it very difficult for us to do our jobs
38:42in the city as well as we need to do them. And we need to do regular day law enforcement
38:46as well.
38:46Yes. They defied a search warrant this morning. Do you think they'll abide by a court order from a federal
38:50judge?
38:51They have to abide. So the question is they defied a search warrant this morning.
38:56Will they abide by a court order by a federal judge?
39:02Everybody listen to that question. The question is, will this administration abide by a court order?
39:11These are the underpinnings of our democracy, of our republic, and of this constitution.
39:17The answer better be yes. Whether you're a Democrat or you're a Republican, you abide by those court orders.
39:25The answer has to be yes if you are a patriot for this country. And so, yes, my expectation is
39:32that
39:32they will abide by the court order because there is not an alternative.
39:37If I could just ask you, and also Senator Klobuchar and the other legislators, the rhetoric today
39:45seems back to where it was in the aftermath of Renee Good, if not even higher.
39:51Senator Klobuchar posted on X, Stephen Miller, then the present day slammed Senator Klobuchar's post.
39:58This is going on, the vitriol on social media. Is there any way, or how are you going to
40:06come together? Is there any way to approach the other side?
40:09Yeah. I'll answer for myself and from the city's perspective and certainly
40:17turn it to Senator Klobuchar.
40:20I want everyone to just quickly look at the juxtaposition between the way that Minneapolis is
40:27showing up and the way that the federal government is showing up. I want you to look at the difference
40:31between the elected leaders and our chief that you've heard talk just before me. They're calling
40:37for peace. They're calling for peace, not with span, not withstanding this horrific action from the
40:44federal government. What are they doing? They're not investigating the person that killed our citizens.
40:52They're investigating us. This is political retaliation. This is about a political narrative,
41:00and that narrative is making people less safe.
41:07A number of us has been-
41:08I want to explain that we came out of the Kristi Noam presser because many of her claims were inaccurate.
41:17Thank you. Let's get some reaction from Minnesota State Senate President Bobby Champion and Minnesota
41:23State Representative Kayla Berg, both Democrats.
41:27The metropolitan area, Chief O'Hara was-
41:30Senator?
41:31Well, yes. Well, Reverend Sharpton, thank you. Thank you for also giving us the opportunity to see the
41:37false narrative as articulated by Kristi Noam. It's false. We have seen a number of times where they've
41:44come out and tried to create this false narrative in order to be a protectionist. We've also
41:50are very clear that they don't want the truth. You know, the truth means that you want to look at
41:55the
41:55evidence and you want the evidence to lead us in the direction that one should go. What they do is
42:02that
42:02they come up with a narrative and then they want everyone to buy into that narrative. First of all,
42:07when she talks about the suspect and interfering with their duties, I haven't seen that on any
42:15videotape. I've seen the aggressive action of ICE and that a person who was exercising their
42:22constitutional right to observe is taping them and doing all those things. Then I've seen ICE also
42:31pushing people to the ground and hurting them. And then the young man, unfortunately, whose life was
42:37taken was on the ground. And then we heard the shots and he kept shooting. They didn't shoot once
42:44or twice. It was at least three or four times. But this has been the practice of ICE, unfortunately,
42:51that they've been here aggressive with citizens and with children and with seniors, you name it.
42:58So we have also the president who is not interested in the truth. And I really wish they were interested
43:04in the truth because we are interested in the truth. And the last thing that I'll say is this. Number
43:11one,
43:12every elected official, including our governor, the mayor of Minneapolis, the mayor of St. Paul,
43:19our other congressional team has always talked about calm and allowing ICE to do their work.
43:26But yet we have a constitutional right to make sure that they are doing it correctly by observing them
43:33and making sure that our citizens are protected. What has happened is ICE has been the one very
43:39aggressive and being unseemly. And let me just say, Reverend Sharpton, that we've seen this before.
43:49Now and historically, that sometimes law enforcement and not law enforcement, as we know it, ICE in
43:55particular, has been abusive, for lack of a better word.
44:02All right. We're out of time. But Representative Berg, quickly give me your response to what you've heard.
44:08Thank you, Reverend. It's like a tale of two press conferences. The one with our Minneapolis leaders and
44:15our congressional delegation, full of humanity, calling for peaceful protests, keeping each other
44:21safe. The other asking us to disbelieve what we have seen with our own eyes. Enough is enough.
44:27Minnesota can investigate what happens in Minnesota. ICE needs to leave now and our communities need to become
44:34safe once again. All right. Thank you to Minnesota State Senate President Bobby Champion and Minnesota

44:56Welcome back to MSNOW. We are continuing to follow breaking news out of Minneapolis, where a 37-year-old
45:04was shot and killed by federal agents earlier today. Joining me with reaction is Jake Traylor,
45:12MSNOW White House reporter. Jake, what has been President Trump's reaction to today's development?
45:19Yeah, Reverend. It has been really striking remarks from President Trump in the short aftermath of
45:26this tragic killing that took place in Minneapolis. The president, in part, essentially has said that
45:31he's putting the blame on local and state officials in Minneapolis. He has said that the governor and the
45:37mayor are inciting insurrection in the state of Minneapolis. That's, of course, incredibly notable because
45:43the president has long, over the past few weeks and months, threatened the usage of the insurrection.
45:48If necessary, I want to read, in part, some of that true social post where the president said
45:52that much of what you're witnessing is a cover-up for this theft and fraud. He goes on to say
45:57that
45:57the mayor and the governor are inciting insurrection with their pompous, dangerous, and arrogant rhetoric.
46:03The president has, for a while now, floated the idea of using the insurrection act,
46:08saying that there's a certain trigger, a certain point where he would ultimately utilize that.
46:12Kristi Noem, just moments ago in her press conference, was asked by MSNOW about if this
46:19is that trigger, if this is far enough to utilize the insurrection act. She said, in part, that the
46:23president will use every tool that he needs to follow through on his promises to the American
46:27people but was not specific about this being that further enough amount to go there. I also want
46:33to note, too, Reverend, that Stephen Miller, the deputy chief of staff, has really used strong language
46:39in the immediate moments after this tragic shooting, saying that the individual, the 37-year-old
46:44individual that was killed was a domestic terrorist, not providing evidence around that. So we're really
46:49seeing a coordinated effort that is taking place from all senior White House staffers, including Vance,
46:55Attorney General Pam Bondi, and of course, the president himself.
46:58All right. Thank you to Jake Traylor at the White House. Joining us now is Louisiana Congressman Troy
47:06Carter, vice chair of the Congressional Black Caucus. Congressman, what are your thoughts on today's
47:12fatal shooting in Minnesota? What we're seeing, Reverend Sharpton, is failure at a proportion. A
47:25presidency and a secretary to Homeland Security that's completely out of control. When you see armed
47:31thugs and, yeah, attacking a citizen to the ground. I mean, every camera angle shows
47:42this individual holding up his phone and then rustled to the ground and shot. There was no
47:53indication that another fire in play. There was no indication that this individual was even
48:02responding actively. He was holding simply to help the lady who was being pepper sprayed,
48:09and they appeared to not like that. Listen, evidence will have to be
48:14predetermined exactly what happened. The thing is for certain. And we're not going to be comfortable
48:19with very ICE agents who committed this entrenched crime to be the one to also investigate it. There
48:29has to be independent investigation done by local authorities. As I've said all along,
48:35in order to work for ICE agents or CBA or whoever comes into the community, they must
48:42work with local agents. If you really want to help, it's still going to appear that the ICE agents
48:49are there to help. They're there to incite, to use the football now. It appears that the role is to
48:58try to do off-sides so they can then act out in a violent way. The message has to be,
49:05we have to
49:06do smarter than they are. We have to ensure that we once again assume the power of Congress. And I
49:13call the Republican colleagues, both the Senate, to recognize that it's not about Republicans or
49:20Democrats. This is about our Constitution, the law. This is about a governance that is of control
49:29in America. Let me break in. We're having sound problems with you, but thank you. Let me take a break
