00:00:00My Renault Rules is proudly brought to you by LMCT+,
00:00:04Australia's biggest loyalty program and best rewards club.
00:00:10Previously on My Renault Rules...
00:00:13Aussie billionaire Adrian Portelli
00:00:16snapped up two run-down relics in Melbourne.
00:00:19His dream? To transform them into luxury homes.
00:00:24And then, live on air,
00:00:26give two Aussie families the chance to win them.
00:00:31In House 2, Mitch and Shaz had grand plans for their spaces,
00:00:36monopolising the trades,
00:00:39leaving Frankie and Isaac struggling to keep up.
00:00:42We're just waiting and waiting and waiting.
00:00:43And shake their underdog status.
00:00:45I don't even know if we're going to get it done in time.
00:00:48In House 1, Nathan and Julia were convinced they had the winning edge
00:00:53with a bar and pink colour drenching.
00:00:56Gee, she's pink.
00:00:58But shockwaves hit when they found out Emma and Michelle had similar plans.
00:01:04Ours is not a bar.
00:01:06Ours is a breakfast bar.
00:01:08Sparking a full-blown copying scandal.
00:01:10This entire thing is just frustrating.
00:01:13While Emma and Michelle went big and bold in their en suite.
00:01:16I don't know if it's bold enough.
00:01:18Even design icon Neil Whittaker couldn't change their minds.
00:01:22I'm worried about you creating an en suite that feels a little bit like a tomb.
00:01:27Or alter their plans.
00:01:29You don't like shower screens?
00:01:31No.
00:01:32I don't like glass.
00:01:33I think it's dirty.
00:01:37Tonight.
00:01:38Oh-ho!
00:01:39Our judges aren't holding back.
00:01:41What were they thinking?
00:01:43There'll be hits.
00:01:44Oh!
00:01:45That's a bougie bedroom.
00:01:46It is one of those sort of pinch me moments.
00:01:48And misses.
00:01:49I really did struggle this week to find anything positive.
00:01:53One of the worst bathrooms I've seen.
00:01:56As they try to get one step closer to that $250,000 prize.
00:02:02Honestly, I'd give you a job.
00:02:04But...
00:02:05We made it.
00:02:05We made it.
00:02:07Adrian Portelli is about to blow that prize.
00:02:10First place will now be competing for...
00:02:14Right out of the water.
00:02:34It's the final day of renovations.
00:02:37And there's just three hours left until the room reveals.
00:02:43Over in House One...
00:02:45Pressure is on.
00:02:48Competitive couple Nathan and Julia are racing to finish their entrance hall, walk-in robe
00:02:53and pink colour-drenched main bedroom.
00:02:56Gotta start getting this bed out and assembled.
00:03:00And Julia is still nervous, following a conflict with Emma and Michelle after they chose the same
00:03:06design elements in their rooms.
00:03:08Looks amazing.
00:03:09Including a bar and similar pink wallpaper and paint in their study.
00:03:14I'm just sitting here going, you know, we were trying to do a point of difference or make the mask
00:03:19or something different.
00:03:20And we're painting the same colour.
00:03:22It's not...but not even the same colour pink.
00:03:26Like I said, to me, those paints look exactly the same as they want.
00:03:30No, no.
00:03:31Suspicious that the girls pinched her unique pink colour-drenched idea for their study, Julia is still concerned that she'll
00:03:38be accused of copying.
00:03:39There's no denying at all that we made those choices first, but to have the pink paint end up being
00:03:46the same and then the wallpaper be the same as well.
00:03:48There's so much similarities in those spaces and there is, you know, there's a lot of nerves around the judges
00:03:53walking in there first and then seeing our main bedroom second and thinking that we had replicated what they had
00:03:58done.
00:03:59Oh, that looks amazing, guys.
00:04:01This is really cohesi.
00:04:02It's giving king.
00:04:03It's giving king cohesi.
00:04:05Last week, the judges said it's important for the house to have cohesion throughout, but there's a fine line between
00:04:11cohesion and copying.
00:04:12It's smelling like cohesion.
00:04:15Hopefully, the copying word doesn't come up because we love the space and we really do think if you were
00:04:20just competing in those two rooms together, we would win it.
00:04:23But as the judges reveal Edge is closer...
00:04:25Two hours to go!
00:04:27Crunch time.
00:04:29Emma and Michelle have their own issues to deal with in their study, en suite and parents' lounge.
00:04:37In her bold, black bathroom, Michelle has made an unfortunate discovery in the cold, hard light of day.
00:04:45Far out.
00:04:46That's not good.
00:04:49I didn't realise because of such bad lighting on last night that how bad it was.
00:04:56There's plaster on the floor, there's a lot of paint.
00:05:00So, now that means, you know, instead of styling, I'm in here cleaning.
00:05:05Emma, I'm going to be busting my guts in here.
00:05:08Yeah, I'm doing my best, Mum.
00:05:10I'm putting everything together.
00:05:11I'm doing my best.
00:05:12Yeah, you're just going to have to step it up.
00:05:13Yes, Mother.
00:05:14I'm a bit worried because there is so much to get done.
00:05:16I'm going to unload the truck, build our furniture pieces, make sure our styling's on point, lots of cleaning.
00:05:26So, we'll see how that goes.
00:05:29I think there's a lot riding on the en suite.
00:05:31You know, choosing the tiles that we did was a pretty bold move.
00:05:34Hopefully, the judges walk in and they love it.
00:05:39With just an hour and a half to go over in house two,
00:05:44Frankie is still painting the ceiling.
00:05:47And delirium has set in.
00:05:49This is how we paint the room, paint the room, paint the room.
00:05:55This is how we paint the room.
00:05:58At the 11th hour.
00:06:00Painting is so much fun.
00:06:02With my friends, with my friends.
00:06:04Painting is so much fun.
00:06:06Painting again, painting again.
00:06:10Hang in there, Frankie.
00:06:13It's been a massive week for Greek mates Frankie and Isaac.
00:06:16Having taken on the entranceway, walk-in robe and master bedroom.
00:06:22They've tried to shake off their underdog status.
00:06:25But multiple setbacks have seen them struggling to catch up with husband and wife, Mitch and Shaz.
00:06:31Sorry Frankie, don't let me seal you.
00:06:33Mitch and Shaz had the well-deserved $10,000 and they built this timber cladded ceiling in their parents' retreat.
00:06:40I loved that timber ceiling.
00:06:42That's what I loved it here.
00:06:42It is absolutely beautiful.
00:06:44But at the same time, it meant they had the labour.
00:06:47And we had less money, less labour.
00:06:50So, it's been pretty stressful.
00:06:53We're third, equal last, call it what you will.
00:06:57We need to win.
00:06:58Look at that, mate.
00:06:59Let it dry.
00:07:00Moving on.
00:07:01As Frankie finally finishes painting.
00:07:04One hour, boys and girls.
00:07:06Yeah.
00:07:07The boys must race to furnish and style their rooms.
00:07:11Oh, my luck.
00:07:12There's shit everywhere.
00:07:13With particular focus on their colourful main bedroom.
00:07:16We've got to be putting this bed together now.
00:07:18After Judge Neil Whittaker challenged them to shake off their underdog mentality.
00:07:23Angle, angle to me.
00:07:24We knew that we had to take the judges' feedback and execute it.
00:07:28And we've done things that we've never thought of before.
00:07:31Comfort zone, stepped out of colours.
00:07:34Introduce what we've never introduced before.
00:07:35Looks good.
00:07:36I think the level that we've done, in terms of boldness, I think it's spot on.
00:07:41I'm loving the way it's looking.
00:07:43And you look great too, Isaac.
00:07:46But as parents Mitch and Shaz put the finishing touches on their study on Sweden Parents' Lounge,
00:07:52Shaz is worried the judges may not approve of their risky decision to turn the study into
00:07:57an additional bedroom, inspired by their son, Lenny.
00:08:01Side tables beside the beds.
00:08:03It's going to be tight, I reckon.
00:08:05I think that this week will be interesting when it comes to judging.
00:08:09And I'm a little bit nervous.
00:08:10Hey, how they don't tell you which way is which?
00:08:13Because it was only planned to be a three-bedroom and a study.
00:08:15So it's a bit risky, but for me, it's too large of a house to only have three bedrooms.
00:08:21Hugely important that when the judges walk in, they are wowed instead of going, what the hell?
00:08:26But before the judges drop by, there's someone else who wants to have a look first.
00:08:31Shut up and drive, drive, drive.
00:08:35It's the man who bought these houses, Adrian Portelli.
00:08:39Here we go.
00:08:41There he is.
00:08:43Hi, mate.
00:08:44Good to see you.
00:08:45Me too.
00:08:46What the hell?
00:08:47What's going on?
00:08:48They have gone up in a big way, but they also have about 20 minutes.
00:08:51Do they actually?
00:08:52Yeah, we've got to get in there.
00:08:53So we should go see what they're doing, what they're up to.
00:08:55Wow, what a change.
00:08:59I hear action up here.
00:09:02Hello.
00:09:03Wow.
00:09:04This is a parents' retreat.
00:09:05We've got height here.
00:09:06Oh, hello.
00:09:07What's this, hello?
00:09:08Something we, Mum and I don't have.
00:09:10Okay.
00:09:11Chris, we're going to bring the lounge up and you're going to help us carry it.
00:09:18Hey, boys.
00:09:19Can we please get the lounge?
00:09:21ASAP.
00:09:21I think there's more furniture movements.
00:09:23Yeah, I get your hands down here.
00:09:24No, I can.
00:09:24Come on.
00:09:25Chris.
00:09:25Enough talking.
00:09:26Get them now.
00:09:27Get working.
00:09:28We're moving a lounge for you.
00:09:29I'll wait here and I'll guide you so you don't hit any walls.
00:09:32Come on.
00:09:32I don't know how this is going to go because you're eight foot and I'm four foot, but let's
00:09:35go.
00:09:36What a team.
00:09:37Oh, look at the drop here.
00:09:39Okay.
00:09:39Three, two, one.
00:09:42Are you okay?
00:09:43If you're comic value, I'm going to go up the stairs first.
00:09:46Okay.
00:09:48Chris, you took the easy side, mate.
00:09:50Are you going to be right, Emma?
00:09:51I do.
00:09:52Just don't go through that window there.
00:09:54What?
00:09:54I don't know how we can help there.
00:09:56She's in a pickle.
00:09:57No, no, no.
00:09:58Emma.
00:09:59Albert.
00:09:59Chris.
00:10:00I'm taking the weight.
00:10:01I'm taking the weight.
00:10:02Seriously.
00:10:05You took the easy side, mate.
00:10:07I really tried.
00:10:08I'm sorry, Chris.
00:10:11Don't worry about me.
00:10:12Oh, you got this, mate.
00:10:13You got this.
00:10:14Don't worry about Emma.
00:10:16She's okay.
00:10:17You did a great job, guys.
00:10:19Okay.
00:10:20That's all right.
00:10:20We've got it from here.
00:10:21Thanks so much.
00:10:22Well done, guys.
00:10:23That was a good team effort.
00:10:25Thanks, Chris.
00:10:25High five.
00:10:26Good on you.
00:10:27All righty, guys.
00:10:29So, I'll show you your bathroom.
00:10:30This is our moody bathroom.
00:10:32Come in.
00:10:34Okay.
00:10:35Okay.
00:10:36Do you like it?
00:10:37Bronze elements.
00:10:39It's dark and moody, but it's something that is not beige and boring.
00:10:43Yeah.
00:10:44Oh, the black toilet.
00:10:46Hmm.
00:10:47So, if you do it number two, you don't see it.
00:10:51Yeah.
00:10:54I hate to break up this part.
00:10:56She's winding it up.
00:10:57Yeah.
00:10:58Okay.
00:10:58Sorry.
00:11:00Nathan and Julia.
00:11:01Come on in.
00:11:02I know you probably don't have much time to talk, but there's a bit of texture going on here.
00:11:06Oh, wow.
00:11:07Okay.
00:11:07Yeah.
00:11:08Big black cabinets.
00:11:09It ties in the bathroom.
00:11:11That's cohesion.
00:11:13Um, okay.
00:11:14You guys are on the final countdown, so we don't want to get in the way.
00:11:17Thanks, boys.
00:11:17Good luck.
00:11:18Adrian, let's go.
00:11:19We've got to go.
00:11:20Oh, sorry.
00:11:21I feel bad.
00:11:23With the teams in House 1 frantically racing to the finish line, let's head next door and check on the
00:11:29progress in House 2.
00:11:32Hey.
00:11:34How are we doing?
00:11:35How are you?
00:11:36You know, there's only 15 minutes left.
00:11:38No, do you like my styling?
00:11:40Well, you've got a bit to do.
00:11:41Yeah.
00:11:42And while Mitch and Shaz don't seem to be too worried about the deadline.
00:11:46Is this the confidence of being on top?
00:11:48100%.
00:11:48Yeah.
00:11:52Frankie and Isaac are even more relaxed.
00:11:54What is going on?
00:11:56Come on.
00:11:57Come on.
00:11:57Come on.
00:11:58Come on.
00:11:59Come on.
00:12:01Come on.
00:12:03Come on.
00:12:03Come on.
00:12:04Come on.
00:12:05Come on.
00:12:05Come on.
00:12:05Come on.
00:12:05Come on.
00:12:06Come on.
00:12:06Come on.
00:12:06Come on.
00:12:06Come on.
00:12:06Come on.
00:12:06Come on.
00:12:06Come on.
00:12:07Stuff dreams are made of.
00:12:10Where's the confidence come from here?
00:12:11And how's the colours in this?
00:12:13It's coming together or what?
00:12:14You like it?
00:12:14How good is it?
00:12:15I love it.
00:12:16Seriously, it's, it's...
00:12:17Gents, where did you get this sudden taste from?
00:12:19I've got to show you one thing.
00:12:20This is our walk-in, yeah?
00:12:21It goes into the on-suite.
00:12:24Sick, huh?
00:12:25Sick.
00:12:26I'm so impressed.
00:12:28Thank you, guys.
00:12:28Come on.
00:12:29No time for gas, mate.
00:12:30All right, come on, Chris.
00:12:31We're moving couches.
00:12:32Where do you want me?
00:12:33Out here, mate.
00:12:33Let's go.
00:12:34Chop, chop.
00:12:34Grab the other end, mate.
00:12:36They do know I'm a vet and not a furniture removalist, right?
00:12:40Perfect.
00:12:41Oh, beautiful.
00:12:43Are you talking about the couch or Chris?
00:12:44Definitely Chris.
00:12:45Fair.
00:12:46That's why I'm thinking.
00:12:46Where's this going?
00:12:47All right.
00:12:48There's going to be a time where I'm going to have to say,
00:12:49you've got five minutes.
00:12:51Five minutes, dolls.
00:12:53Five minutes, dolls.
00:12:55Good luck, guys.
00:12:56Come on, fire up.
00:12:57Thanks, guys.
00:12:59I'm going as fast as I can.
00:13:01Speed, like a speed demon.
00:13:03That is...
00:13:03No, we're closing that.
00:13:05Leave it close.
00:13:08Of course flowers are going to be damn messy, Michelle.
00:13:11Go, go, go.
00:13:13Okay, we just need the vacuum.
00:13:15No one's got me the vacuum.
00:13:16I've been screaming out for the vacuum for 20 minutes.
00:13:20Final push now.
00:13:21Definitely down to the wire.
00:13:23You'd obviously rather another three days.
00:13:26Feeling really nervous at this stage.
00:13:28I don't know how to sail a bed.
00:13:30I don't know if that shows, but we're just trying to get it done.
00:13:32One minute!
00:13:34Let's go.
00:13:36Far out.
00:13:37Let's just get everything in place.
00:13:39Done.
00:13:40Double, double, double, double, double, double, double.
00:13:43Go, go.
00:13:44Come up here and clean the floor.
00:13:48I do need those other ones.
00:13:49How'd you go with that plan?
00:13:51That's in.
00:13:52So stressful.
00:13:54Frankie, what is this box of shit?
00:13:5510, 5, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
00:14:05Finished.
00:14:09We did it!
00:14:10Oh my God.
00:14:12Oh, we got there.
00:14:13We did it.
00:14:15I don't reveal.
00:14:16I don't reveal.
00:14:18Oh no.
00:14:19Oh, that was ridiculous.
00:14:24Well done, guys.
00:14:27How'd it finish?
00:14:29How'd it finish?
00:14:30Well done, pal.
00:14:31Oh, yes.
00:14:32Well done.
00:14:33Yes.
00:14:35Oh, yours is sick too.
00:14:38Dude, you've done well, man.
00:14:39Collectively, we are sick.
00:14:41We didn't get to vacuum the rug or anything.
00:14:45I'm so proud of you.
00:14:47You smashed it.
00:14:49You did really, really well.
00:14:50I love you.
00:14:51Love you too.
00:14:53With the teams throwing everything at this week's build,
00:14:56they've now earned a well-deserved moment to catch their breath.
00:15:00Wow, what another monumental push to the finish.
00:15:03Woo!
00:15:05We've done it.
00:15:06We've done it, guys.
00:15:07We made it.
00:15:08We made it.
00:15:08Well, teams, it's hard to believe.
00:15:10We are now halfway through this competition.
00:15:12Oh.
00:15:13It is wild.
00:15:14But you've all lifted your game so significantly.
00:15:18They really have, Chris.
00:15:20Mitch and Shaz, I've got to know, the $10,000 you won last week, did it make a huge difference
00:15:26to your rooms this week?
00:15:27It definitely did help, for sure.
00:15:30Well, there are things that we have chosen in our spaces that would not have been possible
00:15:34without the $10,000, so hope it's enough.
00:15:38Well, we all know you do see each other as competition.
00:15:42So, why don't we find out which rooms have impressed Adrian the most this week?
00:15:49It's been such a tough one, but the rooms that stuck in my head were Frankie and Isaac.
00:16:00How about that, eh?
00:16:01Take it, boy.
00:16:0210 Gs, baby.
00:16:0610 Gs, baby.
00:16:09Honestly, you guys have really levelled up from the first week to now.
00:16:13And I love secret doors and hidden apartments and hidden rooms.
00:16:16That's honestly, that was the winner.
00:16:17So, no, thank you.
00:16:18You guys nailed that.
00:16:19Thank you, mate.
00:16:20Thank you very much.
00:16:21I'm over the moon.
00:16:22Getting that is going to give us that extra edge for the next cycle.
00:16:26So, we're going to win, man.
00:16:27I'm telling you now.
00:16:29All right.
00:16:29Well, there you have it.
00:16:30Frankie and Isaac setting the standard.
00:16:32And Adrian, they've all worked so hard to get to this point.
00:16:36$250,000 does have a subtle way of sharpening the mind, I find.
00:16:40The work you guys are putting into these places is remarkable.
00:16:43And I'm just, I want to keep that fire in your belly, guys.
00:16:47And I want you to levelled up once again.
00:16:51So, I'm doing something different that actually nobody knows about.
00:16:58I've decided, you ready for this one, guys?
00:17:02Ready for this, Chris?
00:17:04No, but I've decided to increase the prize money, ladies and gentlemen.
00:17:10No way.
00:17:12Are you serious?
00:17:13First place will now be competing for...
00:17:20$1 million.
00:17:26I just thought of that in my head.
00:17:27Actually, I did not know this.
00:17:32That is unreal.
00:17:34That's not a joke, right?
00:17:35Seriously?
00:17:36Yeah.
00:17:37I just thought of it on my head.
00:17:38Have you cleared this with all those other people?
00:17:42I was thinking $500,000, and in that last minute, I'm just like, you know what?
00:17:45You guys are just so motivated and hungry.
00:17:47I'm like, let's just double it.
00:17:48Let's go $1 million.
00:17:49What is happening here?
00:17:52Are you all right?
00:17:53No way.
00:17:54I'm not sure, Frankie.
00:17:55You've got a wanting short chance of winning $1 million.
00:17:57Hang on.
00:17:57Hang on.
00:17:58What?
00:17:59Hang on.
00:17:59So, guys, to be clear, the winner of MyRenoRules wins...
00:18:06You didn't just dream that.
00:18:07I know.
00:18:08You win $1 million.
00:18:11Yeah!
00:18:14I'm Frankie right now.
00:18:16$1 million.
00:18:17We have a wanting...
00:18:18This is unbelievable.
00:18:20$1 million for the winning team.
00:18:22Yeah!
00:18:23As of now.
00:18:24Woo!
00:18:26Wow!
00:18:29Coming up, Adrian's not done yet.
00:18:33Adrian, is there anything else I need to know about before we do move on?
00:18:36Oh, Chris, there is.
00:18:39Plus, with $1 million now on the line, the judges step inside and nothing will be overlooked.
00:18:48Oh!
00:18:49What?
00:18:51Oh, wow!
00:18:53This is next level.
00:18:56With one room, leaving them speechless.
00:18:59Simon, you say something.
00:19:01No.
00:19:02And later, the contestants face off with the judges.
00:19:06There's $1 million on the line.
00:19:08It was so much to process.
00:19:11Where would you have added colour if you were doing that space?
00:19:13What's the 10-minute thing got to do with it?
00:19:15As one team reaches breaking point.
00:19:18They have no f***ing idea.
00:19:19I'm just so close to quitting this show.
00:19:28Look out!
00:19:32After a week of gruelling renovations, property mogul Adrian has just dropped a life-changing bombshell.
00:19:40So, guys, to be clear, the winner of MyRanoRules wins...
00:19:47You didn't just dream that.
00:19:48You win $1 million.
00:19:52Yeah!
00:19:55You are so generous.
00:19:59$1 million.
00:20:00This is now properly life-changing.
00:20:03Yeah, definitely life-changing.
00:20:04Wow.
00:20:06$1 million.
00:20:09Frankie?
00:20:10Yeah?
00:20:10What does that mean to you?
00:20:13A million dollars, and that's huge.
00:20:17I can invest in my own business and, you know, trying to set up for my future, buy an apartment
00:20:23or a property, buy all the plates for Isaac's wedding to break more plates now.
00:20:30There's so much.
00:20:32That is...
00:20:33Thanks, man.
00:20:34That is...
00:20:34I'm speechless.
00:20:37Emma, what are you processing right now?
00:20:40I'm still in shock.
00:20:42I know what $1 million can do for my mum, my dad, my brothers, my grandparents.
00:20:49Definitely life-changing.
00:20:51Thank you so much.
00:20:54Chas, you've got little Lenny.
00:20:56What does $1 million mean to you?
00:21:01This not only, yeah, sets us up, it sets him up, it sets up freedom.
00:21:05It sets up our family, too.
00:21:07We can help our parents, you know?
00:21:10Look after, yeah, my dad.
00:21:12Yeah.
00:21:14You all right?
00:21:16You're good.
00:21:17You're all right, babe.
00:21:19It's just an incomprehensible amount of money.
00:21:23But I know that it would just change our whole lives.
00:21:26Yeah, our whole family.
00:21:27Yeah.
00:21:28It would help all...
00:21:28Give back to my parents, all what they did for me.
00:21:30Yeah.
00:21:31Do you often think about that when you're here?
00:21:33Every day.
00:21:34Every day.
00:21:35I know what my dad sacrificed for me growing up.
00:21:41To know that there's that opportunity to help change his life and, you know, look after him.
00:21:49I'm going to fight very hard for this now.
00:21:52Yeah.
00:21:55You're right, babe.
00:21:56In all honesty, the work you guys are putting into these places is remarkable and the emotion
00:22:01you guys are showing, it just shows how much a million dollars means to you guys.
00:22:06It's just, I've definitely made the right decision.
00:22:09We'll see two million next week.
00:22:12Thank you so much.
00:22:13Yeah, thank you, mate.
00:22:14You should all be proud of yourselves, honestly.
00:22:16And I thank you enough.
00:22:17All right.
00:22:18Everyone can just catch their breath for a moment.
00:22:21Although, Adrian, is there anything else I need to know about before we do move on?
00:22:25Well, Chris.
00:22:28There is.
00:22:28I'm more shocked.
00:22:35Second place.
00:22:36That will now be $250,000.
00:22:43He's just got all right.
00:22:45How do you do that, man?
00:22:45He's not well.
00:22:46He's not well.
00:22:47That is crazy.
00:22:48What a, what a man.
00:22:50Yeah.
00:22:51$250,000 to second prize.
00:22:53Yep.
00:22:54He's just up the ante.
00:22:56Like, there's a lot at stake now.
00:23:00I cannot believe we now have a first prize of $1 million,
00:23:04a second prize of $250,000.
00:23:07Oh.
00:23:07I can't even.
00:23:09Well, I think I need to lie down.
00:23:11And I think we need to get the judges in to have a look at the rooms you have just
00:23:14created.
00:23:15But we'll see you later on tonight.
00:23:18Woo.
00:23:18Well done.
00:23:19Bye.
00:23:20Wow.
00:23:21Congratulations, everyone.
00:23:22Thanks, guys.
00:23:252014.
00:23:41With $1 million now on the line, the pressure is on.
00:23:47And to begin with a chance, the teams will have to impress these guys.
00:23:52Our judges.
00:23:53Design expert Neil Whittaker.
00:23:56Interior stylist and author Julia Green.
00:23:59And buyer's agent Simon Cohen.
00:24:0124-karat magic in the air.
00:24:04Well, let's kick things off and see what the judges think of House One.
00:24:09Yeah, the facade's not giving too much away, is it?
00:24:11No.
00:24:11But it looks like they've retained the brick.
00:24:14Yes.
00:24:14Which I'm happy about.
00:24:15I'm sure there's been a lot of activity inside.
00:24:18Yes.
00:24:18Starting with the first of Nathan and Julia's rooms.
00:24:21This week, the husband and wife team completed the entranceway, walk-in robe and master bedroom.
00:24:28In their bedroom, they decided to paint the walls pink.
00:24:31Do we just colour drench this room?
00:24:33With a quirky concept.
00:24:35I want to basically create a bar that's going to go in there.
00:24:37In the bedroom?
00:24:38In the bedroom.
00:24:39That would give the space a distinctive edge.
00:24:41This is our game changer.
00:24:43This has got me up and I found.
00:24:46But the bar idea wasn't so distinctive after all.
00:24:49I think there could potentially be some doubling up.
00:24:53You say you're all talking to each other, but if that's happening, then somebody's not listening.
00:24:57As they made a tough call, laying Julia's dream of a bar to rest.
00:25:02That's how they said the last thing they wanted to do.
00:25:04Downstairs, Julia's creative spirit was less constrained as she explored her love of all things Italian.
00:25:10My English is not as much as good.
00:25:12That's totally fine.
00:25:13You're my man.
00:25:14You're my man.
00:25:14A Venetian plaster entranceway, the focal point of the space.
00:25:20But will the judges have the same appreciation as Julia for the rustic Italian beauty?
00:25:25We're in for a surprise, guys.
00:25:27Let's have a look at their entranceway.
00:25:31Wow.
00:25:32Look at this.
00:25:40Wow.
00:25:42It's something.
00:25:43Okay.
00:25:45Oh.
00:25:49I really am not sure about that wall.
00:25:54You know what it reminds me of straight away?
00:25:57You know those rocks that you, like, scrape your feet with?
00:26:02Have we gone back to the Flintstones?
00:26:03Yeah, it's very Flintstones.
00:26:04I'm really, I'm not sure, guys.
00:26:06What are you not sure about?
00:26:08The texture?
00:26:08The texture of that is just too hardcore.
00:26:11I'm all for a textured wall.
00:26:13I love texture more than my husband.
00:26:15But to be honest with you, I'm really not sure about this highly textured wall sharing
00:26:22a space with the living room last week.
00:26:25I'm not seeing any kind of consistency in the space.
00:26:29I completely, 100% disagree.
00:26:32I actually love it.
00:26:35For me, it is bringing that level of interest to a neutral space that the oxidised metal wall
00:26:42brought to the living room.
00:26:43I'm getting PTSD from the word oxidised metal.
00:26:46I think for me, it's very neutral and almost sterile in here.
00:26:54Yeah, I'm with you on the sterile nature because we've got white walls, white carcass.
00:26:59We're even staring down the barrel at a white artwork.
00:27:03This feels flat.
00:27:05Yeah, I agree.
00:27:06It's very flat.
00:27:07See, isn't it interesting?
00:27:09You say flat.
00:27:10To me, this is subtlety done well.
00:27:13Well, I personally think that as a basic hallway...
00:27:18Neil's nailed it.
00:27:18The word is basic.
00:27:20And it's very basic.
00:27:21Let me finish.
00:27:21It's a very basic hallway, but they've introduced, I think, some depth with a neutral palette.
00:27:27And therein lies the conundrum.
00:27:29Style is subjective.
00:27:31We can all agree to disagree.
00:27:33Can we please move on?
00:27:34How many centimetres are we into the house?
00:27:36Lead the way, please.
00:27:38Oh, please.
00:27:40Next is the first in Emma and Michelle's room.
00:27:43This week, they tackled the study on Sweet and Parents' Lounge, with last week's feedback
00:27:48ringing in their ears.
00:27:49I'm nervous about getting ridiculed again about being boring and beige.
00:27:53This week, the pair focused on another word, starting with B.
00:27:56Going bold.
00:27:57Bold, bold.
00:27:58Bold.
00:27:58Just go bold.
00:27:59Bold, bold, bold.
00:28:00And bold they went, with a bold stone-top breakfast bar in their parents' lounge.
00:28:05That's beautiful.
00:28:07I love it.
00:28:08And a black bathroom that can only be described as, well, you guessed it.
00:28:12This is a bold choice.
00:28:14But as their bold vision came to life, the pair came across a design issue they could
00:28:19never have seen coming.
00:28:20Maybe we made it too bold.
00:28:23In the study, Emma and Michelle also went bold, but in a different sense.
00:28:28Oh, that's the way I do it in that room.
00:28:30Being so bold as to choose a similar pink to the one in Nathan and Julia's bedroom.
00:28:34I just feel like there's two pink rooms now.
00:28:36We are not copping.
00:28:39So, how will Emma and Michelle's bold rooms stack up with the judges?
00:28:43Let's find out, starting with their pink study.
00:28:46Okay, you ready, boys?
00:28:47Yes.
00:28:47Here we go.
00:28:48Oh!
00:28:51Oh, wow.
00:28:54Yes!
00:28:55This is what I'm talking about.
00:29:06This feels like a home or an office that I could live in.
00:29:11Live in?
00:29:11Well, I could study in.
00:29:13I could work in.
00:29:15It's so cosy.
00:29:17And it feels really luxe.
00:29:20Can I tell you something?
00:29:21Yep.
00:29:21You're going to anyway, Simon.
00:29:23I love the wallpaper.
00:29:24Yes.
00:29:25I think it's beautiful.
00:29:25I think it's elegant.
00:29:27It feels, as you say, Julia, warm, cosy.
00:29:32Brilliant step up from last week.
00:29:35Absolutely.
00:29:36I'm standing here staring at that thinking,
00:29:38have I ever in my entire career seen a marble benchtop in a study?
00:29:44I just want to see how it feels to sit at.
00:29:48Yeah.
00:29:49Tell us, Neil.
00:29:52Well, it's a tick from me.
00:29:54Can you do business in this room, Neil?
00:29:56I can do business in this room.
00:29:57All right.
00:29:57Well, then it's a tick.
00:29:58I really can.
00:29:59And I can tell that Emma and Michelle created this room.
00:30:02Because let's face it, whether we liked it or not,
00:30:04they kind of established the DNA for this house
00:30:07by creating the living room.
00:30:09It feels very much in keeping with that first room.
00:30:12I really like the cohesion and the style that I'm seeing
00:30:15mirrored from room to room.
00:30:17I'm just a bit excited for them.
00:30:19They've really come a long way.
00:30:21Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves, judges.
00:30:24There's still a few more rooms to go.
00:30:26Next, let's take a look at Emma and Michelle's parents' lounge.
00:30:31Wow!
00:30:32You're gonna see me round.
00:30:37Oh, my goodness.
00:30:38They've packed a lot into this small little space,
00:30:42but it feels pretty good.
00:30:44Mmm.
00:30:47Although, once I start looking around,
00:30:49I'm seeing things that don't make me overly happy.
00:30:52Oh, no.
00:30:56What the hell were they thinking?
00:31:11The judges have just stepped into Emma and Michelle's parents' lounge.
00:31:15And their early optimism has quickly faded.
00:31:20Mmm.
00:31:21Once I start looking around,
00:31:23I'm seeing things that don't make me overly happy.
00:31:26Oh, no.
00:31:30What the hell were they thinking?
00:31:33There was just way too much going on in this room.
00:31:38This space is really bothering me, I have to be honest.
00:31:42They chose so well in the study.
00:31:44In here, it doesn't feel luxurious.
00:31:47It doesn't feel glamorous.
00:31:50The actual styling of this space is really letting it down.
00:31:54This is totally unnecessary.
00:31:56Honestly, they've got to just get rid of it altogether.
00:32:00We all agree there's too much happening for the size of the room.
00:32:05But can we just give them a little bit of credit for the fact that I see what they're trying
00:32:09to do here?
00:32:10Yeah, and listen, I love the idea that they put a breakfast bar in.
00:32:14Yeah.
00:32:14Right?
00:32:14I think it's a very cool concept.
00:32:17You can sit and work, and it is a beautiful view.
00:32:21But stylistically, the room's a bit odd.
00:32:26Well, so far, Emma and Michelle's rooms have been hit and miss.
00:32:30Shall we go see what's in the bedroom?
00:32:31Next, let's take a look at Nathan and Julia's bedroom and walk-in robe.
00:32:37Oh!
00:32:42What a huge improvement on the house's old master bedroom.
00:32:47That is a wow moment.
00:32:49Yeah, that's a bougie bedroom.
00:32:52Beautiful bed.
00:32:53Yeah, that makes me want to get in there and have a Z's.
00:32:56Go have a quick nap.
00:33:00And look what they've done.
00:33:01They've drenched.
00:33:02They've actually gone the full colour across the ceiling, which makes me personally very happy.
00:33:08But this feels bougie.
00:33:10It feels warm.
00:33:11I really do love the wallpaper.
00:33:13I think the fact that they've carried it, even though it's not identical to the office, it works.
00:33:18Yeah, I agree.
00:33:19I love it.
00:33:21This is a room I haven't seen before.
00:33:23This is new.
00:33:24It's fresh.
00:33:25It's innovative.
00:33:26It's different.
00:33:28It's cool.
00:33:30Can I say one negative, perhaps?
00:33:33The room's very tonal, but there's this few hints of dark.
00:33:38Yeah.
00:33:39The dark pendant, dark chest of drawers.
00:33:42It feels a bit out of place.
00:33:43I agree with you.
00:33:45And also, the position of that pendant, why is it right there in the corner and not closer to the
00:33:50bed?
00:33:51It's a very odd placement, I have to say.
00:33:54But look, let's not get nitpicky.
00:33:55I think this is one of the best rooms I've seen this couple do.
00:33:59Can we please go into what is my favourite room in a house?
00:34:02And that is the walk-in wardrobe.
00:34:04Next, let's take a look at Nathan and Julia's walk-in wardrobe.
00:34:08I've got to say, this is a lovely area.
00:34:12I think it's very functional.
00:34:13Yes.
00:34:14I love the fact that the wallpaper's come through.
00:34:16Yes.
00:34:17Yep.
00:34:17Good hanging space.
00:34:19Yeah.
00:34:20Nice layout.
00:34:21Good tones.
00:34:22It's okay.
00:34:23I mean, it's a wardrobe.
00:34:25I know.
00:34:25It's functionality-wise, it's okay.
00:34:29But the styling of this space has been an absolute afterthought.
00:34:33But I can let that go based on the functionality.
00:34:36On sweet bathroom time?
00:34:37I think so.
00:34:38And I'm really keen to see if that all works and flows.
00:34:41Like, we're talking about the cohesion.
00:34:44What's behind that bathroom door?
00:34:45Let's go see.
00:34:46Neil, lead the way.
00:34:47Will do.
00:34:48Next is Emma and Michelle's en suite.
00:34:51With their study a hit and their parents' lounge a flop,
00:34:54what will the judges make of their bold bathroom?
00:35:10Okay.
00:35:13Um, who wants to go first?
00:35:16I'm...
00:35:17Um...
00:35:18Simon, you say something.
00:35:22Um...
00:35:22No.
00:35:24No.
00:35:24What does that mean, Simon?
00:35:25I'm just confused.
00:35:28This just feels drab and dreary to me.
00:35:32It just feels like a lot of dark mass of colour, and that's not uplifting at all.
00:35:38It certainly feels very dark in a house where the aesthetic is basically very light.
00:35:44I mean, if you think of the hallway that we came in downstairs, I mean, if you think of the
00:35:47hallway that we came in downstairs, you know, this couldn't be further removed.
00:35:48Absolutely.
00:35:50It's such a small space, and they've then gone and put up this wall 25% from the back of
00:35:56the bathroom, and it's like bang.
00:35:58I hear you both, because I told them not to do this.
00:36:03I said, guys, seriously think about glass shower screens.
00:36:07They don't have to use my advice.
00:36:09They should have, Neil.
00:36:10But I actually am disappointed that they didn't, because I think this has done exactly what I said it would
00:36:17do.
00:36:17It's made the space feel claustrophobic and dark, and it does not marry with everything else in the house, especially
00:36:26the main bedroom.
00:36:27It's such a shame, isn't it?
00:36:28When I did my drive-by, I said, main bedroom and ensuite, they're like bacon and eggs.
00:36:34They've got to go together.
00:36:35It's true.
00:36:36It doesn't feel like bacon and eggs.
00:36:38It feels like bacon and cheesecake.
00:36:39It's okay.
00:36:41I'm not actually even being funny.
00:36:43You are.
00:36:44They do not.
00:36:44You're actually being very funny.
00:36:45They do not belong together.
00:36:47This is like they literally didn't discuss a single thing, except afterwards they came in and thought,
00:36:55all right, we'll throw some towels in just to make it feel like it's part of the same house.
00:37:00All they had to do was sit down for 10 minutes, have a discussion, say, this is the color palette.
00:37:05This is what we're going with.
00:37:07Let's work together and make it happen.
00:37:11Coming up, shocks and surprises in house two.
00:37:15What?
00:37:18What?
00:37:19Oh, wow.
00:37:20Stop it.
00:37:23And later, the verdict is in after one of the competition's most heated judging sessions.
00:37:29One of the worst bathrooms I've seen.
00:37:31I'm actually really happy with the bathroom.
00:37:35Wow.
00:37:35As one team buckles under the pressure.
00:37:38They have no f***ing idea.
00:37:40I'm just so close to quitting this show.
00:37:52The judges have just finished their walkthrough of house one.
00:37:56Now it's time for them to head next door to check out house two.
00:38:00All right, here we go.
00:38:03First up is Frankie and Isaac, who tackled the entrance hall, walk-in robe and master bedroom.
00:38:10This week, the pair looked to get off the bottom of the leaderboard and shake off their underdog mentality.
00:38:15We think we should redeem ourselves.
00:38:18In their bedroom, they leaned into their intuition for color and design.
00:38:21Above our walnut backboard, we're going with a khaki color.
00:38:26And took a risk with a secret door in the walk-in robe.
00:38:29We want narnia doors.
00:38:31You open it.
00:38:31Wow, en suite.
00:38:32Yes.
00:38:33But with Mitch and Shaz monopolizing tradespeople.
00:38:35They've used all the labor.
00:38:37You can't do much about it, but just we've delayed.
00:38:40Their resolve was tested.
00:38:44With their vision only coming together at the last moment.
00:38:48Have they done enough to impress the judges?
00:38:50Let's have a look at their entrance way.
00:38:55Oh-ho.
00:38:56Okay.
00:38:57Oh.
00:39:01This is an entry foyer.
00:39:04Oh, my goodness.
00:39:07This is what I'm talking about.
00:39:09Boys, this is excellent.
00:39:18I like it.
00:39:19Well, it just says, welcome to the house.
00:39:21Yeah.
00:39:22It does, doesn't it?
00:39:22It does.
00:39:23It says, welcome home.
00:39:24It screams it.
00:39:25And there's a well-scaled, beautiful piece of artwork going boom.
00:39:29And a bit of color, Julia.
00:39:30I know.
00:39:31They were listening.
00:39:32I love that.
00:39:32And a lamp, Neil.
00:39:33Yes.
00:39:34I know.
00:39:35There's something for all of us.
00:39:38This does feel really luxurious, doesn't it?
00:39:42And you know what?
00:39:42Looking into the room from last week, it feels like the same house.
00:39:48It does, yeah.
00:39:49Beautiful sense of cohesion.
00:39:50Yeah.
00:39:51Really well done.
00:39:52And what a difference beautiful lighting makes.
00:39:55You know, great sconces.
00:39:56I love the fact that you know what a wall sconce is, Simon.
00:39:59Yeah, well, it's thanks to you too.
00:40:01He should do.
00:40:02He should do.
00:40:04Let's head up to the first of Mitch and Shaz's rooms.
00:40:07This week, the husband and wife team tackled the study on Sweet and Parents Lounge, with
00:40:12an extra 10K in the bank.
00:40:14We're going to blow our money on this.
00:40:17And looking to extend their lead over the competition, the pair focused on a show-stopping
00:40:22Parents Lounge.
00:40:23Sort of putting the vanity in and building that curb into it will look built in.
00:40:27With a lavish stone bench, timber ceiling and curved wall.
00:40:34In their en suite, they decided to showcase their love of tiles.
00:40:38Okay, your Kit Kats is with a grey grout.
00:40:41But with a focus on their lounge and bathroom.
00:40:44Great build, mate.
00:40:45Great build.
00:40:45Bang on.
00:40:47Mitch and Shaz's study was left to the last minute.
00:40:50But a creative idea at the 11th hour.
00:40:53I turn it into a bedroom.
00:40:54Saw them repurpose the study as a kid's bedroom.
00:40:58Bed will come out here, full cabinet and then desk under the window.
00:41:02With a wallpapered ceiling and some wacky design elements, inspired by their son, Lenny.
00:41:08It's definitely going to be a hit or miss.
00:41:10But will their kid's bedroom impress our judges?
00:41:12Watchers.
00:41:18What?
00:41:20Oh, wow.
00:41:22Stop it.
00:41:24Watchers, watchers, take control.
00:41:26Forget all you know.
00:41:29Don't get, don't get comfortable.
00:41:33Watchers as we steer the show.
00:41:36Hang on.
00:41:37Is this a study or a kid's bedroom?
00:41:40It's both.
00:41:41How, that's, yeah, right.
00:41:44So it's functioning as a dual space.
00:41:47I'm actually really confused.
00:41:48I mean, it's whatever you want it to be, really.
00:41:51I thought we were coming to see a study, but I think it's functioning as a kid's bedroom.
00:41:55And I love it.
00:41:58It is one of the coolest rooms I've ever seen.
00:42:05I really love it.
00:42:07And I think that's very gutsy and brave to wallpaper a ceiling.
00:42:12I talk about it all the time, but no one's ever brave enough to do it.
00:42:16It is a particular taste.
00:42:18It's my taste.
00:42:19I love it.
00:42:20I think it's mine as well.
00:42:23Nothing excites me more than when I see something that I genuinely have not seen before.
00:42:28And I've never seen anything that looks quite like this.
00:42:31It's a fun kid's room that's been styled beautifully right down, you know, to the runners on the floor and
00:42:37the backpack.
00:42:37And the socks.
00:42:38And the socks.
00:42:39Nailed it.
00:42:44I hope the kids like skateboarding, basketball and soccer.
00:42:48I mean, I'm still confused.
00:42:50I don't know if it's a kid's bedroom or if it's a study or if it's a guest bedroom.
00:42:54Simon, who cares?
00:42:55Or it's a hybrid.
00:42:56It doesn't matter.
00:42:57The bottom line is they've turned this room into possibly another bedroom, which has got to be good for a
00:43:04larger family or even resale.
00:43:06I can't argue with that.
00:43:19The judges' walkthroughs for House 2 are underway.
00:43:23And so far, they've been impressed.
00:43:27Heading upstairs, let's take a look at Mitch and Shazza's parents' lounge.
00:43:32Oh, guys.
00:43:34Oh.
00:43:35Oh.
00:43:35Oh.
00:43:41Stop it.
00:43:44This is a parents' retreat.
00:43:51I just am in awe of what these guys have pulled off.
00:43:55I can't believe the level of detail.
00:43:59I mean, can we just talk about the timber cladding above our heads?
00:44:03Yes, we can.
00:44:03I mean, how cool does it feel, especially on a slope like this?
00:44:06Yeah.
00:44:07You do feel like you're in a chalet.
00:44:10Look at those Luxaflex blinds.
00:44:13I mean, the light is magnificent, too.
00:44:17This is beautiful.
00:44:18Check out that stone, Neil.
00:44:21Absolutely beautiful.
00:44:23Their attention to detail, like this curved TV wall feature built-in recess.
00:44:30It is a beautiful space.
00:44:34Aesthetically, they've nailed it.
00:44:36Yeah.
00:44:37But I've even noticed they put ducted air conditioning in here.
00:44:41Oh, wow.
00:44:43Thanks, LG.
00:44:44It is one of those pinch-me moments, isn't it, when you have to remind yourself that this
00:44:48has all been done in such a short period of time.
00:44:51But the whole room.
00:44:54Can I say one negative, perhaps?
00:44:59There's a lot of seating for a parent's retreat.
00:45:03I wonder if this would have been enough, and they could have done something else over there.
00:45:08What else would you like to see over there, Simon?
00:45:11Well, considering we just came from a kid's bedroom that's supposed to be a study, I think
00:45:16a beautiful desk here.
00:45:18Yeah.
00:45:18Looking out to the vista, doubles as parent's retreat and office.
00:45:25I just think these chairs are dead space.
00:45:28Simon, I don't agree with you often, but today, you're right.
00:45:32I agree with you, too.
00:45:33Guys, don't know about you, but I'm ready to check out this main bedroom, shall we?
00:45:37Oh, let's go.
00:45:38All right.
00:45:38House two is going from strength to strength, but next is Frankie and Isaac's bedroom and
00:45:44walk-in robe, their biggest test, after last week's bedroom was a flop.
00:45:49The boys' bedroom.
00:45:51Look at this.
00:45:52Wow.
00:45:55It's a big change from their last bedroom.
00:46:05I absolutely love it.
00:46:09So much thought that has gone in.
00:46:12It feels generous and luxe.
00:46:15And just that cool vibe that we've come to love about this house.
00:46:20You know what?
00:46:20It certainly matches the house.
00:46:22I love this colour palette.
00:46:24Yeah.
00:46:24For me, this is the most restful colour palette I can imagine.
00:46:29Have those guys made this bed?
00:46:32Well, they've done a really good job.
00:46:34I can't make a bed as good as that.
00:46:35I seriously can't.
00:46:37I don't believe you for a second.
00:46:37You need to lift your game, Neil.
00:46:39Well done, boys.
00:46:40I can see enormous growth in their styling from room to room from last week.
00:46:47Unbelievable.
00:46:47I mean, there's a two tradies from Melbourne that have come in and styled like they're pros.
00:46:53Last time, remember I said to them at the judging, I said, please, please do not think of yourself
00:46:59as the underdogs because you're not.
00:47:01This proves it, doesn't it?
00:47:02This is the proof.
00:47:03I mean, I'm so glad they listened.
00:47:06Yeah.
00:47:06Because this shows confidence.
00:47:09Yes, it does.
00:47:10Total confidence in themselves.
00:47:12The boys have nailed it.
00:47:14Next, let's take a look at the boys' walk-in robe.
00:47:22They've done this awesome double-sided walk-in wardrobe.
00:47:27Oh, wow.
00:47:28And there's a make-up desk.
00:47:30Oh, wow.
00:47:31Which I just think is a very clever use of space.
00:47:34Look at this.
00:47:34Beautiful door handles.
00:47:35This is next level.
00:47:38And there's a mirror for you, Simon, just in case you were looking for it.
00:47:41I prefer something floor to ceiling, but there definitely is a mirror.
00:47:43They've nailed it.
00:47:45Oh, talking of nailing it, I think I have found the en suite.
00:47:51Oh.
00:47:52Mitch and Shaz's en suite is the last room in house two.
00:47:55What will the judges make of their terracotta bathroom?
00:47:59Well, lead the way, Neil.
00:48:00What have we got in here?
00:48:01Oh, my God.
00:48:03The secret cupboard.
00:48:08Oh, my goodness.
00:48:10This is like my version of heaven.
00:48:13Wow.
00:48:16Gorgeous.
00:48:20This is how you do a bathroom.
00:48:24Spectacular.
00:48:25What do you call this?
00:48:26So in love.
00:48:26Peach.
00:48:27I call that terracotta.
00:48:28It's one of my favourite colours.
00:48:31The way that that artwork picks up so perfectly on the colours of the paintwork and the tiles,
00:48:38it's just, this is sophisticated interior design.
00:48:44The only thing I would say, for such a beautiful original and thought-through bathroom, the only letdown for me
00:48:52is the basins.
00:48:53I think the white's really boring, considering we're in such a beautiful space full of colour.
00:48:59I agree.
00:49:00And also, we don't have any towel rails.
00:49:03These kind of towel hooks look beautiful.
00:49:06Yes.
00:49:06But actually, they're completely impractical.
00:49:08But we are getting into that nitpicking territory.
00:49:12But unfortunately, that's what happens when something is delivered to such a high standard.
00:49:18Well, that's the walkthroughs complete.
00:49:21And it's hard not to be impressed by how far both of these houses have come.
00:49:26Midway through the renos, House 1's value has already increased by over half a million.
00:49:32And House 2's value has increased upward of $600,000.
00:49:38And now, there's only one thing left.
00:49:41Judging.
00:49:43Well, to scoring we go.
00:49:57After a massive second week renovating their houses, it's time for these guys to face the judges.
00:50:03Walking in tonight, the amount of added pressure is enormous.
00:50:07A million dollars is, like, just an unbelievable amount of money.
00:50:10We deserve to be here and we deserve to win.
00:50:13We just can only hope the copying word doesn't come up.
00:50:17We really need to get off the bottom of the leaderboard today.
00:50:21We've done everything in our power this week to listen and not be beige and boring.
00:50:26We put our heart and soul into it.
00:50:28Hopefully, it's not hideous.
00:50:31We're definitely feeling the pressure today.
00:50:33There's a million bucks on the line now.
00:50:35The stakes?
00:50:36A million times higher.
00:50:38It's changed the game for everyone.
00:50:40We've got to keep that spot on top of the leaderboard.
00:50:42We're trembling right now.
00:50:44Yeah, I'm not lifting my arms because I'm sweating.
00:50:46We've put so much into this week.
00:50:49Blood, sweat and tears.
00:50:50A million dollars is on the line.
00:50:52We need to climb that leaderboard.
00:50:55Come on in.
00:50:57Welcome.
00:50:58So good to see you.
00:51:00Hi.
00:51:01Good to see you all.
00:51:02Hello.
00:51:02You too.
00:51:03Welcome back.
00:51:05What a week of surprises it has been.
00:51:08You discover that the winner takes home one million dollars.
00:51:14What?
00:51:17Has this changed the competition entirely?
00:51:20Drastically.
00:51:20100%.
00:51:21Yeah.
00:51:22Frankie?
00:51:23Can't talk.
00:51:26He's definitely put the pressure on.
00:51:28Big time for everybody.
00:51:31Now, before we get into the judges' feedback, let's see where each team stands on the leaderboard.
00:51:40In first place, Mitch and Shaz, followed by Nathan and Julia.
00:51:44Then an equal third, Emma and Michelle and Frankie and Isaac.
00:51:50There are just four and a half points that separate you all.
00:51:56The leaderboard could look very different by the end of tonight.
00:52:02First up, we are going to head over to house one.
00:52:07And we're going to start with Nathan and Julia's hallway.
00:52:12Okay.
00:52:17For me, a home is the moment where you exhale.
00:52:24You open that door and you say, I'm home.
00:52:27And when I opened that door, I felt disappointed.
00:52:34I felt like I'd stepped into a lab, not a home.
00:52:38This beige on beige territory, I think the wall was just way too much.
00:52:44Obviously, the wall colour was sort of predetermined when our previous areas had been done.
00:52:49And we tried to stick with that colour and instead play with textures.
00:52:52It didn't work.
00:52:53It really didn't work.
00:52:54It fell flat.
00:52:55Where would you have added colour if you were doing that space?
00:52:57For me, looking down the barrel of a hallway, I would want a focal point there.
00:53:02A really bold, beautiful selection of art.
00:53:04So we sort of had to make a couple of last-minute changes and wanted to make sure there was
00:53:08art in there.
00:53:08It could have just been anything but what you chose.
00:53:14That Venetian plaster wall kind of looked like something you want to rub your feet on.
00:53:19It looked like pumice stone.
00:53:22It didn't do it for me.
00:53:23It felt quite Mediterranean as opposed to the luxe feel the girls had gone for last week.
00:53:30So for me, with a bit of a lack of cohesion this week.
00:53:37I disagree with my fellow judges.
00:53:41I liked your hallway.
00:53:45I felt that there was cohesion with the minimalist aesthetic that Emma and Michelle had set as almost like the
00:53:54design DNA of House 1 last week.
00:53:57All right, let's walk upstairs and have a look at the master bedroom.
00:54:05When I walked into this room, I thought, finally, Nathan and Julia are back.
00:54:13It felt bougie and luxurious.
00:54:16Thought it was a lovely, generous, beautiful master bedroom.
00:54:21A few little niggly things that bothered me in the bedroom.
00:54:25One of those was the position of your pendant in the far corner.
00:54:29We'd originally said that we wanted it to not be symmetrical.
00:54:32It's a really sort of tight space and we didn't want to try and put two pendants in.
00:54:36But when you're talking about lighting over a bed, actually you need to be symmetrical.
00:54:40Because you need to have an equal light source on either side of the bed.
00:54:44But overall, I liked your bedroom.
00:54:48A tick from me.
00:54:50The negative feedback was a bit of a shock.
00:54:53The judges pointed out that the elements they didn't like in our room were the ones that we tried to
00:54:57pair with Emma and Michelle's rooms.
00:55:00Emma and Michelle.
00:55:02Let's start with your study.
00:55:05Julia.
00:55:08I think that...
00:55:12You guys have come right back.
00:55:14I walked into that study and fell in love.
00:55:19It was such a turnaround from last week.
00:55:22You really listened and you took on board a lot of the feedback and applied it well.
00:55:27Thank you so much.
00:55:28The ambiance, the feeling, it was luxurious, it was warm, it was inviting.
00:55:32I'm with Simon and Julia.
00:55:34I loved it too.
00:55:35Three out of three, yes.
00:55:37I think the wallpaper was beautiful.
00:55:41I think it's a really lovely coincidence that you both used the same wallpaper, but one of them had a
00:55:48stripe running through it, a pinstripe.
00:55:49Yeah.
00:55:50Because that, to me, shows cohesion.
00:55:54Let's move upstairs to the parents' lounge.
00:55:59For me, I think there was just way too much going on.
00:56:05There's just this mismatch of styles and textures and patterns.
00:56:11That was just way too much.
00:56:15Styling, I thought, was poor.
00:56:17Okay.
00:56:17Like, the throw and the cushion on the sofa, it just looked like it had been chucked there.
00:56:22We did definitely run out of time.
00:56:25Yeah, I know.
00:56:25And unfortunately, you can read it immediately.
00:56:28Yeah, I agree.
00:56:29It was a lot for us, the three rooms.
00:56:31We did struggle with the time.
00:56:33It's a lot for anyone, but it's a competition.
00:56:35Yeah, I know that.
00:56:37There's a million dollars on the line.
00:56:39I know, I know.
00:56:40We know that now.
00:56:40Get the cushion right.
00:56:41Yeah.
00:56:42Fold the throw right.
00:56:44The same goes for all of you.
00:56:45If you're panicking and you're doing things in a hurry, we will always be able to read it in the
00:56:51room.
00:56:52So bear that in mind, too.
00:56:55Can you feel it?
00:56:56I'm fine.
00:56:58We are not done yet, Emma and Michelle.
00:57:01Here we go.
00:57:03We still have your en suite.
00:57:11That en suite, ladies.
00:57:14It was so much to process.
00:57:17I have no idea where this black tile came from.
00:57:22I cannot see that reflected in anything else throughout the whole house.
00:57:27It was big, blocky, dark, drab, quite frankly.
00:57:33One of the worst bathrooms I've seen.
00:57:49That en suite, ladies, it was, quite frankly, one of the worst bathrooms I've seen.
00:57:59I just did not like it at all.
00:58:04It really was very poor.
00:58:09Opening the door and seeing that wall made a small space feel even smaller.
00:58:16I really did struggle this week to find anything positive.
00:58:23Where did the black tile come from?
00:58:25Yeah, obviously it was bold.
00:58:27Obviously too bold, considering it's the worst bathroom that you've ever seen.
00:58:31But again, where did the black come from?
00:58:36I just need to understand where that came from.
00:58:38Well, there is black elements in the house.
00:58:41You know, we've got a dark roof.
00:58:43It was a choice we made.
00:58:44You know, we didn't get it right.
00:58:46But I'm actually really happy with the bathroom.
00:58:51Wow.
00:58:59I came along and gave you some advice.
00:59:01You didn't have to take my advice.
00:59:03I knew that if you created those black tiled nib walls, it was going to feel like a dark tomb.
00:59:10Yeah.
00:59:11But we did...
00:59:11That's what I wanted you to avoid.
00:59:13We decided the nib wall because we're not a fan of shower screens.
00:59:19But it...
00:59:19I mean, the black tile choice was the wrong choice.
00:59:22That's the root of the whole problem.
00:59:24We sort of wanted to do something a little bit different.
00:59:27We wanted more of a moody bathroom.
00:59:29But also, you have a very short amount of time.
00:59:33You're picking from tiles in a...
00:59:36You know, it's so far from what is realistic.
00:59:40Ten minutes to choose tiles.
00:59:44I think you have more.
00:59:46I think you have about two hours to choose tiles.
00:59:48No?
00:59:49No, no, no.
00:59:51Chaz and Mitch, how long did you guys have to choose your tiles?
00:59:55I think we had two hours before the deadline was in.
00:59:59That's exactly what you get, though, isn't it?
01:00:02You get two hours.
01:00:03I'm not sure.
01:00:03The week's been like that, so...
01:00:05Yeah, I think we were taken aside to sort something else out and, you know, we were only left with
01:00:10ten minutes.
01:00:10So, perhaps our time management wasn't done the best this week because we were literally only left with about ten
01:00:18minutes.
01:00:20We've done the tile deadline before and we know that we're all allocated the same amount of time.
01:00:25So, I don't get it.
01:00:27Not sure, to be honest.
01:00:29What's the ten minute thing got to do with it, Michelle?
01:00:31Well, I mean, just because you had ten minutes didn't mean you had to choose black tiles.
01:00:35No, no, like we...
01:00:36Yeah, I agree.
01:00:37I'll just...
01:00:38Where I'm going with this is that, you know, you understand the aesthetic that you created for the house.
01:00:47You guys set the tone for this house with your first living room.
01:00:51What made you think that the black tile choice was going to be the right one?
01:00:55Um, look, I...
01:00:57Yeah, it probably isn't the right style for the house.
01:01:05To be slammed again, um, it's not a good feeling.
01:01:10Words are, like, super hurtful.
01:01:12Words stick.
01:01:14We've been really singled out with some terrible words for both weeks, so it stings right now.
01:01:22Hang on, Mum.
01:01:24Loving life right now.
01:01:26Well, now it's time to turn our attention to the couple on top of the leaderboard.
01:01:31Mitch and Shaz, let's hear what the judges had to say about your study.
01:01:38Well, guys, the wallpaper on the ceiling was a very bold choice.
01:01:47I'm not quite sure it's for everyone.
01:01:49And I couldn't quite figure out if it was a kid's bedroom or if it was a study.
01:01:55On the plans, the room was designated to be a study and we decided to turn it into our fourth
01:02:00bedroom.
01:02:00And that was purely because of the size of our house.
01:02:03It is huge and for it to only have three bedrooms doesn't make sense for us.
01:02:09Well, what Simon didn't like, I loved.
01:02:13I absolutely adored that moment on the ceiling.
01:02:17The actual colour palette itself was very beautiful.
01:02:23And the fact that you've turned that room into another child's bedroom, for me, is a big win.
01:02:29Walking up the stairs into your parents' retreat put a big smile on my face.
01:02:35The piece de resistance to me was that cladding on the ceiling.
01:02:39That timber cladded ceiling was like a giant warm hug.
01:02:43I'm there for that.
01:02:44What I love about your work is your attention to detail.
01:02:48I love the way that the television was recessed so beautifully.
01:02:53Tiny little details, but it makes a big difference.
01:02:56If I had to change one thing, there were way too many chairs.
01:03:03It kind of felt like a waiting room for the bedroom.
01:03:06You know, I don't know what you guys are thinking about doing up there.
01:03:09We're in there later.
01:03:10Who you're entertaining.
01:03:12But you could see like 13 people up there.
01:03:14I just wish that instead of those two chairs underneath the window, you'd put a beautiful desk.
01:03:23I would say that you guys have the same size bathrooms, yet yours felt way bigger.
01:03:29And it truly does come down to using light, bright colour palettes.
01:03:35Guys, I'm very curious.
01:03:37Where is this inspiration coming from with all of this colour?
01:03:40I genuinely don't know.
01:03:42Literally, I sound insane, but this is what the house has told me it is.
01:03:47This is what I feel from the house.
01:03:49The house whisperer.
01:03:51The house is talking to you?
01:03:52Yeah, yeah.
01:03:53It says, hey, Shaz.
01:03:54Keep talking to it, Shaz, because what you're doing is working.
01:03:58I can't believe your confidence with colour.
01:04:00Honestly, I'd give you a job in my business.
01:04:03She's talking to me, clearly.
01:04:05I'm not sure if that's a joke or not, but I'm going to email on my resume.
01:04:08It's me that's getting the job again.
01:04:11Frankie and Isaac.
01:04:12Get a quick one here.
01:04:14Let's hear what the judges thought.
01:04:16Starting off with your hallway.
01:04:22Hallelujah.
01:04:24We've got a house that looks like one whole house.
01:04:27It was lux.
01:04:29It was well thought through.
01:04:30And I particularly loved looking down the line of that corridor and seeing a beautiful, energising piece of art that
01:04:38spoke to me.
01:04:39Good job.
01:04:40It was a great hallway.
01:04:42Do you know what I really loved?
01:04:44The fact that you had used the same wall sconces that had already been used by Mitch and Shaz in
01:04:50the living room.
01:04:51Yeah.
01:04:51Because for me, that showed confidence.
01:04:54You weren't afraid to follow the style of the house.
01:04:59Thank you, Neil.
01:05:00Thank you very much, mate.
01:05:01Well, guys, the bedroom.
01:05:05Do another one, man.
01:05:10Gentlemen, this was a huge change from last week's bedroom.
01:05:15I have to say, well done.
01:05:17I could see you had put thought, ideas, feedback all into practice, and it worked.
01:05:27I thought the walk-in wardrobe was brilliant.
01:05:30The fact that you fitted a make-up station in there, not bad for a couple of tradies from Melbourne,
01:05:35right?
01:05:36I just couldn't quite wrap my head around the fact that, is this really the same two that did that
01:05:42boring beige bedroom last week?
01:05:45I mean, what a crazy transformation.
01:05:49Where did you get that colour palette from, boys?
01:05:52I wanted to draw the greens from the wall.
01:05:54So that green kind of goes with the maroni, as we've got the chairs from, and then we link that
01:06:00marble side tables with the handles.
01:06:02So I just thought it all wrapped together.
01:06:04Listen to you both.
01:06:05You're talking like interior designers.
01:06:07I mean, just over a week ago, you were talking about being the underdog.
01:06:11And now you're talking about drawing colour palette inspiration from the walls, and marrying it in with what's going on
01:06:18downstairs.
01:06:19And, you know, you'll be chopping cushions next, you know?
01:06:22Seriously, I can't think of the last time I saw such a leap forward in such a short space of
01:06:29time.
01:06:30It's extraordinary.
01:06:32Thank you, Neil.
01:06:32Thank you very much.
01:06:33Thank you, everyone.
01:06:33Thank you, Paul.
01:06:35Love it.
01:06:36For him to be impressed with our work, the man himself, the godfather, it's actually one of the best feelings
01:06:42ever.
01:06:42Like, I've never...
01:06:44It's actually the best feeling.
01:06:56All right, teams.
01:07:02It's time to see what the all-important scores are.
01:07:05The judges will give your rooms a score out of ten.
01:07:09Those points add up each week, determining your position on the leaderboard.
01:07:15Every point brings you closer to winning that $1 million.
01:07:24We really, really need this.
01:07:26We need this for ourselves, and we need to get up that leaderboard and get closer to $1 million, 100%.
01:07:31All right, well, Nathan and Julia, let's find out what the judges thought of your hallway and your master bedroom.
01:07:41Guys, I thought you delivered a hallway and a main bedroom which blended well with the aesthetic of the house.
01:07:47Guys, this week, I'm giving you an 8 out of 10.
01:07:52Guys, for me, this week, it was a little bit of hit and miss, I'm afraid.
01:07:56I'm giving you a 7.5.
01:08:00I, too, will score you a 7.5 out of 10.
01:08:04Nathan and Julia, that will bring your total score for this week to 23.
01:08:11We're very ambitious people.
01:08:12We're very hard-working people.
01:08:14So, yeah, there's a major amount of disappointment.
01:08:17But we're, you know, we're not giving up.
01:08:19We're fighters.
01:08:19We're going to see this thing through.
01:08:21Okay, well, let's hear Emma and Michelle's scores.
01:08:23Here he goes.
01:08:24I'm not ready for this.
01:08:25Emma and Michelle, the en suite was probably the thing that let you down the most.
01:08:32This week, I'm giving you a 7 out of 10.
01:08:38Ladies, this week, I am scoring you a 7 out of 10.
01:08:44Emma and Michelle, your study saved you this week.
01:08:48I'm scoring you 7.5.
01:08:52So, Emma and Michelle, that brings your total score to 21.5 out of 30.
01:09:00We're very deflated at the moment, and you can probably see that.
01:09:04Like, it's hard to hide those feelings.
01:09:08I'm questioning even my ability.
01:09:12And obviously, Emma's questioning hers as well.
01:09:16As a mum, I want to pick her up and give her a big hug.
01:09:23Mitch and Chaz.
01:09:26Well, let's hear your scores.
01:09:29Mitch and Chaz, the personality you're injecting into these homes is infectious, and I'm here
01:09:36for the ride.
01:09:36I'm giving you an 8.5.
01:09:40Mitch, Chaz, your styling is impeccable, and you do give that home a sense of warmth and
01:09:46glamour.
01:09:46So, this week, I'm scoring you an 8 out of 10.
01:09:49Mitch and Chaz, you delivered rooms that are high on style, and for that reason, I'm giving
01:09:56you an 8.5 out of 10.
01:09:59Thank you, Neil.
01:10:02Mitch and Chaz, that brings your total score this week to 25 out of 30.
01:10:08Great effort.
01:10:13Well, Frankie and Isaac, let's see if you've done enough to get yourselves out of last place.
01:10:19Gentlemen, you copped it last week, but I was so impressed to see that you not only took
01:10:24on board what we suggested, but you dared to be different, so this week, I'm scoring you
01:10:32a 9 out of 10.
01:10:38Guys, you've really come home strong this week.
01:10:42I'm giving you a 9.5 out of 10.
01:10:47Thank you very much.
01:10:50Frankie and Isaac, this week, you didn't just impress me.
01:10:54With the sheer sophistication of your spaces, you actually blew me away with the way you
01:11:01responded to the feedback you've been given.
01:11:04And for that reason, I'm giving you both a 10 out of 10.
01:11:14It's our first 10 of the series.
01:11:21Thank you so much.
01:11:24Can you believe that?
01:11:26No, man.
01:11:28Not at all.
01:11:29I've got so many things to say, but this isn't working right now.
01:11:32With those scores, you have a total of 28.5 out of 30.
01:11:45Thank you so much.
01:11:47That's 1.5 off being full marks.
01:11:50Frank never got those scores at school.
01:11:53Ever.
01:11:53He didn't go.
01:11:53I never listened.
01:11:54But here we listened and we got good scores.
01:11:56Of the one back the clock, maybe I would have listened.
01:11:59Well, haven't things shifted around tonight?
01:12:03Big switch for Frankie and Isaac with 28.5 putting them on top.
01:12:08Continuing their strong run, Mitch and Shaz, second on 25.
01:12:12Nathan and Julia, third with 23.
01:12:14And Emma and Michelle, 21.5.
01:12:20Let's see who is on top and, well, just a little bit closer to that $1 million grand prize.
01:12:27I stand right down the water.
01:12:31Mitch and Shaz, you remain top of the leaderboard with 50.
01:12:37Closely followed by Frankie and Isaac with 49 points, just one point behind.
01:12:45Third, Nathan and Julia with 45.5 points.
01:12:48And Emma and Michelle, fourth with 42.
01:12:51I'm sorry.
01:12:53I'm sorry.
01:12:56Well, teams, we are officially halfway.
01:13:00Just a few rooms left.
01:13:03$1 million is going to be going to one team in this room.
01:13:10Good luck next week.
01:13:11Get out of here.
01:13:19Yeah, I just feel that, you know, I just, yeah, I'm a little bit numb right now.
01:13:29After getting those words, I just kind of wouldn't be bothered, really.
01:13:39Oh, I'm pretty over it.
01:13:42It's all shit.
01:13:43This whole thing is just, I'm questioning it for sure.
01:14:05I'm just so close to quitting the show.
01:14:15Next time, it's the final interior renovation.
01:14:19Let's go.
01:14:21And with a million dollars on the line.
01:14:23We're here to win a million bucks.
01:14:24Everyone wants the kitchen.
01:14:26We agreed.
01:14:27We would get the kitchen the following week.
01:14:29We were sort of tricked.
01:14:32One house leaves it to chance.
01:14:34I'm flippin', so you call.
01:14:36While the other goes to war.
01:14:38I've never got what I want.
01:14:40You have.
01:14:41And when a white ceiling sparks a major clash.
01:14:43We're not colour drones in the ceiling.
01:14:45We're not going to win the competition by having two different coloured ceilings in one room.
01:14:49Everyone sees red.
01:14:51Hold on, enough's enough with the bullshit.
