Check out this incredible moment powerful bolts of volcanic lightning rip above a Guatemalan volcano.
Konatsu Ido, from Gold Coast, Australia, captured the dramatic footage of the eruption near Antigua in late April 2024.
The video shows multiple flashes of lightning striking through the towering ash cloud as the volcano erupts with intense force.
This rare phenomenon, often referred to as a “dirty thunderstorm,” occurs when static electricity builds up from fast-moving ash particles and rock fragments colliding within the plume.
As the eruption intensifies, the electrical charge is released in the form of lightning, appearing to connect the crater directly to the sky.
Viewers were stunned by the spectacle in the comments.
One wrote: “Imagine seeing this 3000 years ago. Trying to explain you didn’t see god angry.”
Another added: “It’s all those footsteps generating electricity.”
