Asean Summit to focus on energy security, Mideast crisis, other challenges

Refocusing on key regional concerns, Presidential Communications Office Acting Secretary Dave Gomez says the 48th Asean Summit 2026 will center on pressing issues such as energy security and the Middle East crisis, alongside other urgent geopolitical and economic challenges facing Southeast Asia. Gomez told the media on Ma5, 2026 that the agenda was realigned under the initiative of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., in the context of the State of National Energy Emergency, with austerity measures integrated into summit preparations to ensure the prudent use of government resources while maintaining full operational readiness.
