Marcos: Asean calls for end to Mideast hostilities

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. says Asean calls for an immediate end to hostilities in the Middle East, stressing that peace remains the bloc’s central appeal amid ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. Speaking at the press conference during the 48th Asean Summit in Cebu on May 8, 2026, Marcos said Asean foreign ministers had issued a statement urging all parties to cease hostilities, step back from escalation, and pursue dialogue for a lasting resolution.

00:00Peace. That is, it's not simple. Peace.
00:05And we have made that decision very clear.
00:12We have the foreign ministers when they met previous to this summit
00:17already put out that document calling for all parties to cease hostilities
00:23and to take a step back, open the Strait of Hormuz and find a way for a lasting peace.
00:32And this between US, Israel and Iran.
00:38So that is something that is, I think, fundamental to any discussion about the war in the Middle East.
00:47That's the first step. Because we will achieve absolutely nothing until there is peace.
00:53We now are in this limbo situation where we don't know how long it's going to last.
00:59We don't know when the next encounter is going to be.
01:03Is the ceasefire on? Is it not on? Is Israel included? Is Hezbollah included?
01:09It's a very difficult situation.
01:12So, again, until the fighting ends, until the bombings end, then it's very difficult to put together any kind of
01:24solution, if you want to call it that.
01:27That's why the call, essentially, is peace now.
02:01What is the center of, in the eye? Is the ceasefire.
02:04The end of the eye is above all.
02:05It's very difficult to put together any kind of solution.
02:05The final header of Surprise is to be one of our Clip inside.
02:05We are in the middle of the hour.
02:06We have to walk through the eastern waters.
02:06As you have to walk through the scene.
