00:00At all times, obey my commands at all times.
00:02All right, let's touch them up.
00:11David Whitmire Jr. all set.
00:16It's Jose Luis Sanchez.
00:18Eight rounds here in the welterweight division.
00:25As we're set to get this one underway.
00:37And here we go, round one.
00:43Sanchez just fought back in February 10th.
00:46Said he got the call early for this fight.
00:48Went right back into camp.
00:49So came into this one in very good shape.
01:00Good stab jab down low there from Whitmire.
01:02And right away, you see the dimensions in these two.
01:06And why one of the keys to victory for Sanchez is to get on the inside.
01:10And you see Whitmire trying to maintain that mid-range, taking those half-step backs, half-steps back, and trying
01:15to keep that arm as a frame out there.
01:20You see the awkwardness of Sanchez, though.
01:21You see he changes levels as he enters the punch range.
01:26And it makes it difficult to sort of hold him off there.
01:31That's why Whitmire is not putting full steam into all his shots right now.
01:34He's trying to get those measurements.
01:36You see Sanchez, he's got a little hold on the inside, trying to work with the other hand.
01:40Sanchez has a ton of experience.
01:42He's been in with only top-notch competition his entire career.
01:47This is his 23rd professional fight as well.
01:55Still confident, even though some of the results haven't been there for him lately.
02:01Now, he's a hard-nosed guy, man.
02:03He comes in.
02:04Last fight, he thought he won.
02:06He got a draw.
02:07Said he was in his opponent's hometown.
02:08So you usually know what that means.
02:12Good right hand there from Sanchez over the top.
02:14You know, Whitmire rolled with it nicely.
02:15Looked to counter, missed the counter, though.
02:18You see both guys are really alert here.
02:22Yeah, Whitmire sounded like he knew what he had in front of him tonight.
02:25He was not overlooking his opponent.
02:27I was surprised, though.
02:28He said he wants to go rounds.
02:29He wants to get the rounds in.
02:31I like guys using that block instead of just rolling with that overhand right.
02:35A lot of times using the left hand to block with it.
02:38You may start to see some counter-uppercuts.
02:40I mean, some counter-body shots like that with the uppercut right hand.
02:46It's been a lot of comparisons to Mike McCallum, the original body snatcher.
02:51You see some of that.
02:52He finds those body shots.
02:53There's another one.
02:54Yeah, and McCallum actually liked exactly that shot.
02:56He liked that shot with that right hand right from underneath.
03:00Yeah, he would dip, roll, and then rip to the body like no other.
03:04Sanchez tries to get his own body work going.
03:05But you could lift him by Sanchez.
03:09I love that stab jab.
03:10That's been a beautiful counter with the 2-1.
03:13Yeah, that's the thing you see with Whitmire.
03:16Rolls nicely, blocks nicely.
03:18There's that uppercut again.
03:20Starting to notice that he was putting himself in position to throw it.
03:23He hadn't thrown it earlier when I mentioned it, but he's thrown it several times since,
03:27both to the head and body.
03:27I can kind of see he's positioning himself with it.
03:30Oh, good.
03:31Heavy left right hand.
03:36We close this round one.
03:39Whitmire.
03:50You're wondering why we were foisting so much high praise on David Whitmire.
03:55You saw that in round one.
03:56A lot of really smooth, nuanced action there in that first round.
04:02The frame with the right arm.
04:03The rolls to the body shots.
04:05The counters upstairs.
04:19You see some of the look here from Whitmire.
04:21The jab there, getting up strong.
04:23Never got away from that jab either.
04:24Went back to it, even if the line encounters a good body shot.
04:26That's a counter to counter to 1-2-1.
04:28That was a beautiful shot upstairs, but was countering well to the body as well.
04:32But again, always going back to that jab, going back to the stick.
04:36And you know what I liked is calmness as well in that round, too.
04:39Because you know you've got a tough guy in front of you.
04:40You made me here for the long haul.
04:42Whitmire didn't rush anything.
04:44Let it develop.
04:45Developed it himself.
04:46You see Sanchez a lot of times.
04:47That change of speed.
04:48That's another thing that makes Sanchez typically.
04:50Change of speed on the way in, you know.
04:52Sanchez trying to bring some ferocity here early in round two.
04:55Sanchez, he's a rough customer.
04:57That first round.
04:59He got picked apart a bit.
05:00Now he's going to make it ugly and come inside and do what he does.
05:05Body shot there from Sanchez.
05:07Ties up here a little bit.
05:09Puts his head down, covers up.
05:12And it's a tough situation to be in because you can't really hit him clean there.
05:15And he gets him there and he goes to the body.
05:16And if you start stepping back too much, he starts swinging the overhand shots at you.
05:20I called Sanchez when he fought, now, unified 54-pound champion Xander Zayas.
05:27And he came in just like that for the majority of the fight.
05:30He had some success.
05:31You know, lost most of the rounds.
05:33But gave Xander one of his toughest fights early on.
05:35You see his way of trying to pull back there.
05:37And that's exactly what I was talking about.
05:38You see, if you start trying to step back too much, Sanchez will throw the overhand shots and catch you
05:42on the way out.
05:43So, got to be careful.
05:44Both if you hold your ground there and he goes to the body.
05:46Or if you step back, you start shooting the overhand shots.
05:49Gets out of the way of that shot there by Sanchez as he comes back with his own right hand.
05:56Body shot again, lands for Whitmire.
05:58Closes the distance behind the jab.
06:00Digs with the right hand to the body.
06:01Beautiful stuff here.
06:02That's the roll there with Whitmire.
06:07Good counter over the top from Sanchez with the left hand.
06:11That's a vicious shot.
06:12He's got Sanchez stumbling.
06:14He's trying to finish it up.
06:16There's a little uppercut.
06:17Sanchez trying to keep his bounds.
06:18But fires his back with a right hand.
06:20I was trying to say, Sanchez doesn't want to give Whitmire those free body shots.
06:23But he wanted to get hurt with a head shot.
06:26Sanchez still standing but looks...
06:28He's wrong.
06:29Hurt.
06:31Right hand lands on top of Whitmire.
06:33Sanchez normally very durable, especially upstairs.
06:36Tries to fire back with a body shot and a right.
06:38And he's tough.
06:39Still throwing shots and he's trying to recover.
06:42And danger shots too.
06:43He's still got some weight on those shots that he's throwing.
06:47Got a minute left here in our second round.
06:50Sanchez trying to withstand the storm.
06:51Nice change of angle.
06:52He missed the uppercut.
06:56Again, champion, like you said, saying super calm is Whitmire, even in all this firefight.
07:02And we're walking his man down again here, trying to get him back to the whole body shot there.
07:07Left hook to the liver for good measure.
07:09And he set it up nicely with a little touch right uppercut first.
07:12Stiff jab there by Sanchez to try and fight out of this.
07:15But a right hand lands for Whitmire.
07:17Sanchez doing his best not to be a sitting dog.
07:18He's trying to fight back.
07:20Notice how it was the right hand to the side of the head that caused the trouble.
07:24Whitmire's going to that right chopping hook behind the ear to follow up.
07:28Yeah, and I like that he's not forgetting the body shots either.
07:30Still going.
07:30Over the jab.
07:33There's that right hand again.
07:34That rocked him again.
07:36He softened up that side of the head.
07:39Another jab for Whitmire to close this impressive round too as he had Sanchez in a lot of trouble.
07:51Sanchez showed a lot of toughness there by not going down.
07:53And also throwing back, keeping himself alive there in round two.
07:56But dominant, dominant round for David Whitmire.
07:59Looked very impressive and destructive there.
08:02When you have that much success, guys, on an opponent, what is the strategy coming out?
08:06Do you want to go for the kill?
08:08Do you want to see how he reacts to something like that?
08:11A little bit of both.
08:11But I'll tell you what.
08:12Something I noticed, not to go off topic, but the stool was a little bit too far from the corner.
08:16Sanchez tried to lean back into the corner.
08:19And he almost fell off the stool.
08:20So now he's not leaning back.
08:22They didn't put the stool close enough to the corner.
08:24Okay, we're going to see that shot that had him in trouble.
08:26It was a good chopping right hand.
08:26That was like right to the side of the jaw.
08:28It was a good shot.
08:29Off that body shot.
08:30Bang.
08:31Right hand as Sanchez threw a wide hook.
08:34Beautiful shot.
08:35And that's why fundamentals matter at the upper level.
08:39The tighter shot by Whitmire doing the damage as Sanchez was throwing the hook.
08:46Doctors are giving a stern look here at Sanchez.
08:49I'm not sure why.
08:49I don't know what this is here.
08:51A little heavy handed here.
08:52Come on, guys.
08:53This is what takes away knockouts from guys in general.
08:56There's no cut.
08:57There's only anything.
08:57He didn't even go down.
08:58What are we doing?
08:59That's what I'm saying.
09:01This is boxing, not peg.
09:06Uppercut again there for Whitmire.
09:08Having some success.
09:09Sometimes I really think the doctors want to get on TV.
09:12I think some of them.
09:13Some of them, you know?
09:14That was totally uncalled for.
09:16Oh, right hand lands there for Whitmire.
09:18Snapping Sanchez's head.
09:20That was like a little slap, right?
09:21Yeah, but well-timed.
09:23But you see, the legs of Sanchez are still compromised.
09:29He's got that stiff knee, heavy step going.
09:32All those right hands are bothering him.
09:33You notice, too, Whitmire doesn't accept the clinch.
09:35No.
09:36When Sanchez falls in looking for a rest, Whitmire actually does a good job of creating space
09:40and continuing to force punches.
09:41He uses his forearm to actually position and frame and hold Sanchez where he's at so he
09:46can't grab him.
09:47Yeah, that lead hand is very, very disciplined defensively as well.
09:51He doesn't always just roll with the overhand right, too.
09:53I notice a lot of times he sticks out his forearm and blocks with his body shots again by Whitmire
09:57as Sanchez fights back.
09:58And Whitmire again with the counter-upper cut.
10:00He's just so locked in.
10:03And that sidestep with the right hand worked a lot.
10:07It's actually the shot that hurt Sanchez.
10:08And you see Whitmire using it again and again.
10:12This is very impressive stuff with what was considered a step-up fight.
10:20Body shot again lands for Whitmire.
10:22Sanchez trying to stay strong.
10:25Showing some toughness right up top for him.
10:26And then a hook gets through for Sanchez.
10:28Sanchez with the jab every time.
10:31I don't know if anything's getting through.
10:32He's blocking a lot of this stuff, as Whitmire, too.
10:34So even when Sanchez touches him, it's not really getting through.
10:37It's actually positioning for catch-and-shoot returns from Whitmire.
10:40That's the thing.
10:41He's not breaking position at all.
10:42His feet are right in the right place to counter there.
10:44It is again.
10:44That one he had a little step with it.
10:46But the other ones are just picking off with his arms.
10:48That shows the physical strength of Whitmire, too.
10:51And again, roll counter there.
10:55Sanchez in the fighter meeting, I had asked him.
10:57I was like, all right, you've been in front of your man.
10:58What do you think?
10:59How do you feel?
11:01He's like, I'm usually bigger than the guys when I fight at 47.
11:03He's big.
11:04Yeah.
11:04Yeah, we can see that here.
11:05David Whitmire is very big for this weight.
11:09Whitmire gets a little high on the ropes.
11:10It's touched at least a little bit from Sanchez.
11:12Maybe Sanchez can build on that.
11:17Jab push off by Whitmire.
11:19Steps take the half step back.
11:20Back to the jab.
11:22Okay, the body shots are going to tire Sanchez.
11:23But so is the missing those punches.
11:25Oh, clash of heads.
11:26Clash of heads to the mouth.
11:27That's tough.
11:29Yeah, that's a tough one.
11:30Clash of heads.
11:32Whitmire grabbing at the face.
11:33Yeah, that's why even when you get butter right in the mouthpiece like that,
11:36right in the mouth, I'm telling you,
11:37you feel it in your teeth even with the mouthpiece on.
11:39That, I've felt that, man.
11:42I'm telling you.
11:43That doesn't, that doesn't, that doesn't feel good.
11:47You want to, you want to check your teeth.
11:48You can also lose your teeth like that.
11:50Yeah, even with the mouthpiece.
11:51Oh, yeah.
11:51Headbutt penetrates.
11:52Punches don't typically penetrate the mouthpiece,
11:54but a headbutt will if it's hard enough.
11:56Sometimes you take the mouthpiece out,
11:58your teeth are still in it.
11:59Yeah.
11:59Good body shots here from Whitmire.
12:01Sanchez not trying to hold his ground.
12:03Nice, slower shots on the inside.
12:06Another uppercut that gets through for Whitmire
12:08as we close this round three.
12:22David Whitmire has to be admiring his work as
12:25he's in there with a tough customer, though.
12:26It looked like he had Sanchez in a lot of trouble
12:29at the end of round two.
12:31But he's still standing in front of him.
12:34Yeah, Sanchez's not a guy who's going to lay down.
12:35He's going to fight back throughout.
12:40And he had to deal with a headbutt now
12:41that he's got to fight through as well.
12:43Looked like he'd lock back in though
12:44by the end of the round.
12:51We can see some of the work here from David Whitmire
12:54as you see the right get through there.
12:59Beautiful.
13:01That was a tough headbutt.
13:12Sanchez still durable as reputation had coming in.
13:16David Whitmire said that he wanted to get some rounds
13:18in this one.
13:23Sanchez came out winging hooks, man.
13:25He came out winging a left hook.
13:28What else is he going to do?
13:29You know what it is?
13:30He probably gets a tongue lashing from his father
13:31in the corner.
13:32And he's like, man, I better go out and fight.
13:34You can see some of the punches landed.
13:35Whitmire outlanding him 65-30 in total punches
13:38for this fight.
13:39A little body shot counters
13:41through that Mike McCallum up to the body.
13:43How tough is Sanchez that?
13:45Getting all these shots, man.
13:46And he's been hurt this fight, too.
13:48And he still didn't take away the winning mentality from him.
13:50He's still trying to fight and win the fight.
13:54Oh, with double high-low.
13:56I love that shot, that 10.
13:57Boom.
13:57And he's going back to the body himself.
13:59He's like, you know what?
13:59You're going to go to my body.
14:00I'm going to go to your body.
14:02Bring him back any way he can.
14:06Sanchez has bested a bunch of undefeated fighters
14:08in his time out there
14:10and is always hung in tough.
14:11I think Whitmire, though,
14:12is feeling more comfortable in the pocket.
14:14I think he realizes Sanchez is weakening
14:15and he can walk him down.
14:17He's starting to notice this round a little bit more
14:18that Whitmire stays in the pocket.
14:21Even if he takes a couple of shots,
14:22he returns fire
14:24and continues to walk Sanchez back.
14:28That long jab stays with you.
14:31Whitmire, very long reach.
14:34Utilizing it well, really well here.
14:40Another body shot there from Whitmire gets through.
14:42And then went right into the solar plex.
14:44Sanchez comes right back.
14:45There's a left hand upstairs,
14:46a little left hand.
14:48Yeah, Sanchez does a good job
14:49of trying to take away the freebie body shots,
14:52but Whitmire is not deterred.
14:55He stays to the body.
14:56Sometimes, you know,
14:57the best way to stop a guy
14:58from going to the body
14:59or going to a particular shot
15:00is to make him pay for it
15:01when he throws it,
15:01but despite Sanchez throwing a few good counters,
15:05Whitmire has not been deterred
15:06from going to the body.
15:07A few moments ago,
15:08Sanchez did a nice combination.
15:09He met body
15:10and then uppercut split the guard.
15:11Both landed.
15:13A couple body shots there for Sanchez again.
15:15Oh, cut over the left eye of Sanchez here.
15:18Lead eye.
15:20And Sanchez on those right hands.
15:21Goes right to it.
15:22Whitmire goes right to it.
15:23That shot's been landing all night, though.
15:24Whitmire's been with a nice short chopping right hand
15:26all the two hands to the body.
15:29Whitmire from Sanchez.
15:29That's what I mean about the subtle body shots.
15:37David Whitmire showing some impressive talking
15:39with Jose Luis Sanchez tough.
15:42Tries to go back to the body
15:43and then Whitmire returns fire.
15:46I like that rubbernecking from Whitmire, too, right?
15:49I was going to say,
15:49Sanchez's a hard guy to look good against
15:51and Whitmire's looking real sharp, real smooth.
15:54But you know what?
15:55I like his approach in the fight,
15:56when he's going to go to distance
15:57because you can see Whitmire's not rushing his work.
15:59He's letting it.
16:00So if it goes a distance, he's fine with it.
16:01And if he gets a stoppage,
16:02he's fine with it, obviously.
16:03He's just going to work every single round
16:05and taking a workman-like approach.
16:07And this way, by not rushing his work,
16:09he's showing you the repertoire.
16:10Very nice.
16:12Sanchez is working really hard, though,
16:13to stay in this fight.
16:15Right hand lands for Whitmire
16:17to close round number four.
16:28Got to be impressed with the toughness
16:30of Jose Luis Sanchez.
16:31But Whitmire looking pretty with his work.
16:54Oh, look at some of the action here
16:56from round four.
16:59Yeah, a little step back.
17:01Change of range, and then like a shuttle punch
17:02right hand to the midsection.
17:04And there he is again.
17:05Never forgets that bye.
17:06There we already see the cut over the eye.
17:11Even when he does land a little shot,
17:13he fires right back.
17:14See catch and shoot counter there.
17:15Nice shot.
17:17Again, creativity of the way
17:19Whitmire sets up his offense,
17:21both on a lead and on some defense to offense.
17:23Flows very, very smoothly.
17:26Almost effortless.
17:27Makes it look effortless.
17:28Obviously, it's not effortless.
17:29He's having to work against Sanchez here tonight.
17:30But, oh, good shot there from Sanchez.
17:32Good shot from Sanchez.
17:34And Meyer, prior to that,
17:35like moments before,
17:36he landed a good left hook
17:37that he cut off the ring.
17:38Best shots at a fight landed so far by Sanchez.
17:41Whitmire takes him well.
17:46Another body shot.
17:47Faint set up to the body.
17:52Nice little combination of uppercuts there
17:54from David Whitmire.
17:55You see the touch shots too,
17:56so he's looking for a reaction.
17:58He can create a bigger opening
17:59for a bigger punch.
18:00He didn't get it there,
18:01but so he stayed patient.
18:02You see how he kicks.
18:04He took something off the uppercut
18:05to throw a hard one to look at a body there.
18:06You see?
18:07Also, Mike McCallum-esque move.
18:09He would touch, touch, touch,
18:10and then rip.
18:10Yeah.
18:11Stays on you with the jab.
18:12I'll tell you, man.
18:13I used to like watching Mike McCallum.
18:15Everybody's not watching
18:15Dave Whitmire videos.
18:17It's like, oh, nice shots to me.
18:20He's the mini Mike.
18:21Yeah.
18:21Mini Mike McCallum.
18:22And it's, you know,
18:22with Mike having passed recently,
18:24you know, it's a pleasure
18:25to really watch a kid like this.
18:28Ooh.
18:29Nice shot, Jack.
18:31It's through there for Whitmire.
18:37Sanchez is just super gritty,
18:38super tough.
18:40Never loses that fighting spirit
18:43And it looks like he's it's crazy. What you watch with my losing he's not trying obviously he's trying he's
18:48fighting
18:48He's you having to work tonight, but is it's facial expression never changes?
18:52Oh, there's a couple of shots days, but just especially thought of the change saying you have it a good
18:55round
18:56Yeah around that he has all night. He's landed the cleanest shots. He's landed all all night long here and
19:00hit to
19:01Yeah, he's still losing around I said he's had a better
19:07Comparatively, this is a really good reference for him, but
19:10Oh
19:11Again from Sanchez man, but you see again with my sense is the weakening of Sanchez
19:15But he's walking him more walk him down more and more and holding his ground more and more
19:21Finally at the time these guys have been pretty clean with the bodywork so far outside of that headbutt that
19:26got through but
19:26They've been engaging some good body shifts back and forth, but with my definitely get the better of it
19:32Corner is telling Whitmire to stay low and come forward. I think they want them
19:37Wanted to put put the pressure on Sanchez here and use the physicality. Oh, there's a strong hook that gets
19:42through from Whitmire
19:47That's all that Jack was working really good around one you saw it's getting a reaction out of Sanchez
19:52Yeah, he's giving ground on it now, but then he goes right back to trying to stress Whitmire again Sanchez.
19:57No no quitter him
20:01I've called the number of Sanchez's fights. This is this is how this kid fights man
20:06Gritty
20:07And he doesn't want to hear anything. He's doesn't care if he's behind he's gonna fight
20:12Which is rare a lot of guys will succumb he does not succumb
20:18We come to the end of round five between Whitmire and Sanchez
20:52I will take some of the look here in round five as these two have gone
20:56Back and forth the toughness from Sanchez, but Whitmire just so sharp with all of his artillery here
21:02Yeah, and again better round for Sanchez
21:04But still like you said the sharpness of Whitmire
21:07Which is so hard to overcome because he hit you on the way in on the way out
21:10He counters you when you touch him he gets on that jab in between and the body shots are relentless
21:16David Whitmire came to prepare for this. He said that he wanted to get the experience of going the distance
21:21He's finished eight of his eleven professional fights
21:24He's got a tough customer look like in the round two
21:26He was gonna put him away, but still stand in there. He got admire Sanchez and that durability
21:32I don't know I can tell by the body language of Whitmire here
21:35I don't know if he really wants to go to the end of this fight
21:37You see he's coming out with renewed enthusiasm
21:40Yeah, it's setting his feet a little more here
21:44Good little to step around so
21:49He's picking his punches nice little throwaways a body shot there Whitmire is an athletic kid
21:54But he doesn't show it off now sold his position really well
21:57He'd rather almost be in a better position of fight and fight off athleticism, you know very fundamental fighter
22:04That fights both fundamentally and athletically
22:10Now that the scripture reminds me of Najee Lopez you say that athletic but
22:15Willing the trade uses physicality. Ooh, yeah, but Whitmire is not obviously not just stepped up more than Whitmire. Whitmire
22:22is not
22:22Looking to get into crazy exchanges. He's he's it seems like he makes that choice of
22:28To choose the exchanges wisely, you know
22:31Um, oh, no, it's not the camera guy. I hope those ring apres is strong
22:34It's not sent just back there to do it group. That's an extensive fault
22:38Good body shot both hands from Whitmire every chance he gets he digs down to the body
22:44Which right you know, did you say again body shot again?
22:48Return yeah, try to make a paper every time right is this?
22:53Doesn't make a paper there. He's like, I don't know the Mary go see
22:56Yeah, but he's feeling those the punches that came back from Sanchez did not have the same mustard
23:00That they did earlier the problem Sanchez is having to when he when he lands
23:03He's the one that has to go backwards and he's not a back foot fight
23:05No, he lands and goes backwards because Whitmire does never gives ground when when Sanchez lands and again
23:10That's Whitmire realizing the weakening of Sanchez
23:13Sanchez looking wary here
23:16Got about a minute left here at round six. I told you the body language Whitmire is different this round
23:21He's looking to do some real damage here and he has
23:26Still being aware catching and shooting like that
23:30These right hands are really getting Sanchez to back up now
23:35Sanchez look he's just running out of steam those body shots late in the fight
23:41Looking very wary and weak here
23:46Oh good left hook on the inside
23:49My hand gets through there for Whitmire
23:53Sanchez trying to make a last day in your champ and Whitmire just does efficient doesn't waste any energy slowly
23:58trots back into position
24:02Yeah
24:02Yeah, it's like you said earlier like if you watch these guys
24:06In their own space. Let's look at the pretty two different fights. Yeah
24:10Sanchez looks like he sees fighting a war and then
24:14Whitmire looks like he's shadow cruising
24:18David Whitmire impressive in that round six
